This made me so happy today. We've been searching for good Cuban food for a long time now, and given up. It was quite a drive to get out to Hillsboro, but it was worth it. We have tried many Cuban restaurants in PDX and have been disappointed. This was our first time coming to Hillsboro Station. There were many options but really this looked like it would be the best. I was trying not to get my hopes up. I told the guy/chef this and he said after you try the food come back and tell me if it was the best. I did come back, and he was right! We got the sampler with meat. There is also a non meat option. My wife tried the pork first. I was waiting to hear her thoughts. She know good pork. She said it was delicious! On the way home I asked what it tasted like (I don't eat pork/beef). I asked if it was salty and garlicy, she said yes, and crispy. Now that sounds like how pork should be. Everything in the sampler was really good, lots of flavor. There was a green sauce on the chicken and steak... it might have been mojo. It was so good, LOTS OF GARLIC FLAVOR. It was just what I wanted. He mentioned the was a chef in cuba, for 25 yr's, and that the bean recipe was his grandmothers. Nice right? The beans did have a lot of flavor, sweetness too, I would like more salt in there. The white rice was also really good, this says a lot. There was chicken, steak, the roasted port, plantano frito, tostone, yuca con mojo, with some of that green sauce and red pickled onions. On the drive home, I wished we bought more just to take home with us. The guy is very friendly, and you can see he puts love into his food. He's got lots of energy. If you want to do your tastebuds a favor... and you feel like a short road trip to Hillsboro, come visit Azucar for some great Cuban food! We are coming back. The service took a bit longer than I would have liked because it was so hot outside and there was barely any shade under the umbrellas but the worker was kind. The sandwich was good but it lacked that kick I was looking for. I was expecting a strong garlic flavor or aoli but it didn't taste like much other than a steak sandwich. This was my first time trying Cuban food, and after receiving numerous recommendations, I can see why this restaurant is so highly regarded. I ordered the Cubano Sandwich with Yuca Frita, and both were outstanding. Although I typically do not enjoy pickles or mustard, the flavors were perfectly balanced and complemented the sandwich exceptionally well. Azucar is my favorite #1 Cuban food truck. It is in the heart of Hillsboro OR. The food is always amazing. The service is excellent! Some of my favorites are the Yuca Frita, Yuca con Mojo, Tostones fritos, Tostones rellenos, Masitas de Cerdo, Maduros Fritos, Vaca Frita , Bistec Encebollado , y el sandwich cubano. I would give it a 3.5. This was my very first time trying Cuban food so I didn't have any expectations so to speak, I was ready for anything! the server was nice and the menu was clear, and I knew what were some of the main toppings. This is what we got: 1. Paella de Carnes for $16. Yes, it was a little expensive if you just look at the price. They provide a generous portion. There were strips of beef, pork, and chicken, all slightly seasoned differently. It also had some veggies and the rice was soft but not mushy. The salad on the side was very helpful because it was a heavy meal but with something tangy and light, it helped. Because the rice was steamed/boiled/cooked with sometime of stock so it was on the saltier side. We couldn't finish it in one sitting so when we brought it home we mixed it with some of our brown rice and that was much better! 2. Pescado a la Plancha for $14.99. Grilled fish plate. The fish which I think was salmon was cooked nicely. The center part was still soft but it wasn't raw. I liked the caramelized onions which added extra flavors. Again, the salad helped eliminate some of the heaviness. The rice was not bad, it was cooked nicely. This was also a bit too salty for me. Maybe I'm not used to having really strong and intense flavors? There was a sauce that came with it. I didn't try but heard that it had a kick to it. The black beans were good. I usually don't like to eat baked beans or beans in general but the texture was nice, not mushy or raw and the flavor was nice and more subtle in flavor! Both of the dishes were lovely, lots of spices, lots of textures, and it was a lot of fun eating something new! If they lighten the sodium, I would've enjoyed it more. read more

The food I have purchased from this cart has been amazing every time! I am celiac and highly sensitive to any cross contamination and I've never had any issues. Everything is labeled and after talking with him last night he understands because he too has issues. The portions are generous as well. I love the Vaca Frita and the Mojo pork. I had never had Cassava before and it is great. The food is good i usually end up eating until it hurts. This is now my go to food selection! I only stopped by here to try a seafood paella, getting to go. It was delicious! Granted, you don't get the crispy rice style of eating paella at a restaurant but this hits the spot for some tasty seafood rice. The portion was very generous with lots of octopus and mussels hiding in the rice. I would 100% get this again or try their other dishes. AMAZING! This is the BEST CUBAN FOOD in Hillsboro. We were recommended the pork shoulder, with tostones and came with black beans and rice. SO DELICIOUS. Also a side of some type of garlic-esque dip and salsa - SO GOOD. My husband's family is from Cuba and he said "it's like being back at my abuelita's." I have visited Miami and this rivals some of those restaurants. 10/10 highly recommend. The owners are so nice and friendly! What's up squad, this is a somewhat unique review. I say this because I'm going to absolutely glaze the singular employee at this place. A bit of a sad moment because I came upon this place on the back of seeing my ogs for the last time. But the food that I was aboutta eat made the moment a lot better. This food truck was, at the moment, ran singularly by a bald Cuban don. It was pretty early so I found that he was pretty busy. I have never had Cuban food before so this was a make or break moment for my Cuban brotha and man he dunked on my expectations like Nuggets J.R. Smith. I ordered a bistec torta looking thing and it was really pleasantly surprising. There were multiple layers of well seasoned steak with amazing veggies and just the right amount of sweet sexy sauce, coming from a white guy who hated sauce on anything for the first decade of my life. Good shit. The only slight downside of this experience was the fact that I wasn't in Cuba and that I did have to wait for a while to get my bistec. But my Cuban king came in clutch and gave me a free gift of yuca!! What a way to make my last day with the bros memorable. read more
