After a long day on the road, we were looking for dinner and a cocktail or two. We took a short stroll through St. Joseph and happened upon Azul Tequila. It reminded me of a German beer hall because the large dining room was filled with rows and rows of tables. We were seated quickly - probably because it was just the two of us - and the complimentary chips and salsa landed nearly immediately. Our server Gaby had a lot of tables and hustled to every one of them. She quickly brought our margaritas (best tasting cocktail after 8+ hours on the road!) while we pored over the menu. The menu is huge with all sorts of choices. The Hubster ordered a shrimp chimi, which was huge and well-prepared. He raved about how tender the shrimp were. I ordered the enchiladas suiza, mostly because it's been so long since I've had that. I was really good and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Absolutely horrible experience on my first visit. Hands down - worst margarita I've had in a restaurant in a VERY long time. I sat at the bar as i was waiting for friend to join me. I ordered a top shelf margarita which is advertised to be served with Cuervo 1800 tequila. I had the benefit of watching him make the margarita. First he started with Sauza (the cheap stuff) and then mixed in SunnyD artificial orange drink and Squirt soda. That is your margarita mix - seriously ??? I called him out on giving me the cheap tequila and there was a lot of denial and confusion on their part which makes me believe no matter what you order - you are getting what they want to make you. He remade it - claimed they were out of the 1800 and used regular Cuervo. It was just terrible - not good at all - and I just decided at that point there was no use even staying for dinner as I suspected it might be the same quality as their premium beverages. Then - they charged me for a Patron margarita. Unbelievable! Needless to say - this is a one and done experience for me. read more

Great find in St Joe's. Bring Mexican, we can tell when it is great authentic food and this was it. My favorite part was the cantaritos whichb translates to Jugs. It's basically a clay jug of tequila with fruit and usually squirt inside. It's server Ramon was great throughout and we understand he also prepares the drinks. Sometime better give that man a raise. We stopped in at Azul Tequola on our way to watch the sunset at Tiscornia. Its decebt ood with no surprises. Huge 180 item menu with 500 combo options in the middle that plants it into the semi corporate Mexican food via Greek restaurant marketing approach. I had steak ranchero and my wife had the shrimp fajitas. Everything was prepared well and ingredients were fresh. The beans were really good here. Service was friendly.. A little slow on refills but otherwise no complaints. Prices were a bit high but it is directly across from Silver Beach and Ticornia beach so you wind up paying a littlw extra for convenient real estate.9 read more

My wife and I have frequented this establishment quite often over the last few years and have been very pleased with the quality of the food and the service. This time was no different until it came time to pay the bill. We came to dinner with my wife's birthday coupon, she had been waiting for a good night to go. When we tried to use it we were told that we couldn't because two drinks were not ordered. The coupon said 50% off the meal if a second meal and drink were ordered. Well the second meal and drink were ordered but the Birthday meal wasn't ordered with a drink. When it was pointed out to the cashier that the coupon didn't say both meals had to have a drink she wouldn't budge. So a nice evening was spoiled at the checkout. It's to bad because we really liked the food and service there. But we won't be back and when friends ask why we will tell them. My best advice to Azul Tequila is that they need to really make their coupons clear and when there is a misunderstanding don't send the customer home angry. Work it out, a charge for a second soft drink at the cash register could have helped, but it wasn't offered or just take the 50% off the Birthday meal and send Momma home happy. read more

20+ year local here: Went there on a Friday evening as a group of 7. We asked for a table as there were some in our party who wouldn't be able to get in/out of a booth. They said it would be 15-20 minutes. An hour later, we were still waiting, and they'd already given one large table to a group of people who walked in after us. When I called the manager out on it, he said that they'd made a reservation. One problem... Azul doesn't take reservations. I know this because someone from our party called from the parking lot, and were told that they don't. Manager said they made it 2 months ago. But, again, Azul doesn't take reservations. We tried in March, and they said they don't take reservations. We are local people, and have eaten there on several occasions, spending hundreds of dollars, but will not be going back for this reason. Best service in town! Every time my girlfriend and I go in, they are quick to greet and seat us. We always know what we want right away, and the food comes out in at least 5 to 10 minutes, even when they have a full restaurant. Highly recommend!! I've now been to Azul three times - First time at the end of February before COVID. Second time was early July right when restaurants had re-opened for dining. Third time was at the end of August. First visit service and food was phenomenal, though now I am suspecting that the high level of service was due to it being the off-season for St. Joe. Second visit service was still good and it felt like everyone was taking COVID restrictions seriously (all staff properly wearing face coverings, tables marked as unavailable, disposable flatware, etc.) Food and service were both great. Third visit was not great. Staff were all over the place when it came to wearing masks. Some were wearing their masks properly, some were wearing the masks improperly with their nose hanging out and some were not wearing masks at all. Tables were not spaced out and not thoroughly cleaned/sanitized in between patrons. The food was still good but the slow and inattentive service combined with an extraordinarily hot restaurant really overshadowed any positives. As much as I love the food at Azul, with so many other restaurants in the area doing a fantastic job with regards to COVID precautions, I doubt that I will be returning to Azul anytime soon. read more

Instead the dish arrived and it was ALL black beans. It looked DISGUSTING. It was as if they upended an entire can of black beans on my plate. No flavor at all. The chips were hardy and ok, the salsa was BORING. No snap, no flavor. It's been a long time since I've seen a staff that understands the service cycle. Our server was absolutely great! He was attentive , fast, and didn't miss a beat , all while serving just about every other table in our section. He also bussed our table and the others around us. I am going to give this place a 5 because it does not deserve anything less than a 4. If you are expecting high class Dallas, TX cantina Laredo Mexican food, you will be disappointed. If you are hungry from a long hot day at the beach and just want chips salsa and fajitas you will be loving it here. Servers are friendly, food comes out at the typical fast pace of any other place, maybe a little slower than some places but it gives time to enjoy the salsa and chips. Yes one star! I have been going to Azul Tequila for over three years. Yes their food is good but not good enough to make up for the POOR SERVICE. I was there Saturday, August 21, 2021. There were five person to our party and we all ordered at the same time. The food for three showed up bet we had to wait for the food for two people. Sorry, we had to hunt down our waiter to remind him that he did not bring all the food ordered. Needless to say, the poor service ruined the evening. We told the cashier about the problem and she asked what waiter was serving us! The waiter whose name is on our bill. She did not care. Plenty of other Mexican restaurants in the area. No need to go somewhere where they treat their customers poorly. read more

We've been coming to the Azul Tequila for about 4 years. We visit family in St Joseph and everytime we do we have to go to the Azul Tequila. I have never had a bad experience. The food is always good and the service is always great. Everytime we go we see people having fun and enjoying the phenomenal food. They have Video Displays where you can have your pictures posted with family and friends. They also have a Red Carpet Picture Backdrop where you can capture your long lasting fond memories. I plan to celebrate my birthday here with friends. They have a professional birthday club you can join. I found the Azul Tequila Mexican Bar & Grill back in the spring of 2014. I worked as an independent contractor and was looking for a good Mexican restaurant. I remember I ordered a Chicken Chimichanga. The reason I remember that is because it was the best Chimichanga I had ever tasted. For the next couple years, when I would go there, I wouldn't even look at the menu; I would just order the Chicken Chimichanga... I mean, if isn't broke don't fix it. I go to the Azul Tequila a few times a month. I've begun to order many different things on the menu. I especially like the Shrimp Chimichangas. I've never once had a bad meal in all the 5+ years I've been coming here. What amazes me is the friendliness and the speed of the wait staff. Also, once you get your chips and salsa, (incredible salsa), and start to eat them, within a minute or two your meal is there... It's always hot and it's always incredibly good. Recently, I've heard, from Carlos... they are introducing new family events, new Digital Coupons and new Promotions. They also have a new 'Professional Birthday Club' which you can quickly sign up for on the new Kiosk up front. You can bring your birthday party of 4 to 25 or more for an incredible birthday celebration. Schedule ahead of time to receive the 'VIP Birthday Club Treatment'. They have special lighting, music, signs, banners and more. They will give you a free birthday meal and a free birthday gift along with your special birthday celebrations. The Azul Tequila Mexican Bar & Grill is evolving into it's next new phase. All focused on creating an amazing customer experience for their guests. I keep ordering and trying new items on the menu. When I find one that does not deserve a 5 Star rating... I will post it here. Quite frankly when I see a one or two star rating for a place like this... I don't even pay attention to it. There are always going to be haters. Some will be competitive restaurant owners who are shameless. There's nothing you can do about it. All I know is... Considering I have 37 check ins and I think I am the "dutchess" I should probably review. It is a go to since my family lives nearby, as do I. It is nice atmosphere, endless chips and salsa and almost insane fast delivery of your food. Good for large groups of people and we have always had a good time there. Food? I love mexican food, and they are probably one of the best you can get in this area. I lived out west for many years so I say that with the caveat for that statement. I will never go back to this place again. They charged $28 for shrimp quesadillas, even though every other quesadilla option on the menu, even those with meat, was $12-15. When we questioned the price, the server was unable to explain the outrageous charge and could not provide a logical explanation, as there was no price listed to add shrimp. We asked to speak with the manager, who never showed up. The server kept sending other servers to talk with us, and none of them could explain the pricing. Then as we were leaving, we confronted the manager who said that the issue was "our problem". She was incredibly rude and dismissive of our inquiry. When we ask for something else we were told to pay for the one being sent back. Restuarants like these dont understand that people do know the difference in taste.
