I am so pleased we tried this. The flavors reminded me of growing up in a Korean household. My husband said the kimchee tasted just like my mother's and I have to agree. The food wasn't overly spicy like some Korean food can be. The staff was very informative (for other customers since it was obvious we knew about Korean cuisine). We will most likely return. Chicken wings were really great, second only to BonChon, which is not in Reno. The spicy mayo is a nice touch to it. Note: just a warning to those of you who do not have a ton of experience with Korean food...gochujang. It usually has a smokey molasses type of flavor and does not seem spicy on the front end. It creeps up on you and you will find yourself needing a relief. I will age myself by saying I sat through Star Wars with my mouth on fire from dinner an hour earlier. Take caution. read more

Mmmm bab cafe is delicious! I ordered the bulgogi bibim-bab and added spicy pork for $1 more and an order of potstickers. The portions are just enough, I even had leftovers. The prices are worth what you get. My tummy and I were very satisfied with the food. I plan to order here again. read more

My husband is a chef, and I'm a foodie so we jumped at a Yelp event to experience something new. I was excited to try Korean food as my prior experience was only through the food channel. Bab Cafe' is located near the theater at Summit mall. I arrived around one and there was a small group of diners-not talking, just eating. That's a good sign. The menu ordered many choices, all of which I had never heard of before. Thank goodness the friendly hostess helped me navigate. I wanted a low fat entre with spice. I got the Korean Style Teriyaki Chicken and some wings 'to go" for my husband. I received a large bowl layered with rice, chicken and veggies and an appetizer of Japchae-Japanese style glass noodles. Each meal also comes with miso soup. ( There's a video playing that demonstrates how to mix everything together). The sauces, yum... Add a little or a lot. Well, this was an absolutely delicious experience! The chicken was flavorful, veggies very fresh and ooh, how I love the spice. Too much for me to eat at one sitting-i actually ate this bowl for three meals. It reheated nicely. I'll return for sure. AWESOME restaurant at an affordable price for high quality healthy food. Atmosphere inside is awesome even though it's mostly all to go at the moment, but my absolute favorite part is their extra spicy hot sauce. Definitely a fan! A co-worker and I stopped by to pick up lunch to-go. The food tastes really fresh and healthy, and I loved that you can select and mix your sauces as you like. It's a little on the expensive side for a meal, so I probably wouldn't be able to eat there regularly. I got the classic #1 with bulgogi (marinated beef) and upgraded to brown rice. It comes with soup, which was still pretty hot when we drank it about 10 minutes later. For the sauces, I got the red and soy sauces and mixed them together--yummy! Great service! It was our first time in and the cashier was very welcoming, explained how it works and was efficient. Our food came out quickly and was delicious with generous portions. Opening Day and already in love!! Definitely a new go-to place to eat whenever I'm casually hungry. When I walked into the store, I was already in adoration by how cute and neatly decorated the whole place looks. The service is great: Esther and Shelly were super helpful and patient. The whole staff is really friendly and takes the time to greet and say hello to individual tables and customers. The food came out a lot faster than I thought even when there was quite a long line. The Korean food is delicious, definitely recommend the spicy-pork bibim-bap but the tofu and dak-galbi tastes good as well! Everything tastes so authentic. The japchae is more rich in flavor and not so dry like other places. The spicy mayo and teriyaki sauce really compliment the food and they provide cute little sporks to eat it with. Wow! I can't believe it has taken me this long to try this place. It's delicious!! I was looking for a rice or noodle bowl with protein. Plugged it into Yelp and this place popped up. I've been wanting to try it since they opened. So, I decided to pop in for a takeout bowl. I went with the Jeyuk Top-Bab. Rice, Korean Spicy Pork, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, and a couple pieces of pot stickers. Added in the spicy Korean sauce....all delicious!! I also tried the super hot sauce. It was ok. Not super spicy and not a lot of flavor. The spicy Korean was delicious. Super friendly staff. Really can't say enough. Definitely 5 stars!! read more

Tonight I picked up take out from Bab. The food was great, like it always is, but I really wanted to compliment the service. The person working tonight handed my food to me, then noticed that I had a bag of food in one hand and was carrying my three-year-old in the other. Bab Cafe is the first Korean cafe that I have been to and probably the best. The fresh ingredients was well prepared and honestly refreshing. There are great options for who are vegetarian and veagn and well as a gluten free menu. The staff was great and polite as well as a friendly environment. Had dinner with the family here a few months back and just getting caught up on reviews. This is a little place off of South Virginia downtown, but parking is fairly good in the area so don't let that keep you from venturing in. The staff is friendly. It helped that it wasn't terribly busy when we went. We tried the pot stickers and wings and both were tasty and on point. Then on to the bowls which were loaded with ingredients and good flavors. Like so many we have missed dining out during the pandemic. We appreciate the efforts of local restaurants like Bab during this unusual time. Bab works really well for our family - they have healthy dishes and more indulgent choices. We love the variety of bowls but especially favor the spicy pork options. Stopped and got take-out at this little gem of a restaurant while out searching for food on my lunch break. Easy meter parking on 3rd Street, at least on this particular day, and easy access to the restaurant which makes take-out super convenient. Got the classic beef bowl and an order of potstickers and BLAM I was happier than a pig in shit! Super flavorful, fresh, healthy, and delicious. February 10, 2018 Saturday - 5:15 PM for dinner 2 Adults Atmosphere - 5 stars Food - 5 stars Service - 5 stars Background - My wife wanted some vegan food and we have not tried this place yet. Atmosphere - A small place the moved into the repurposed vacant hotel. What a great use of an old hotel. Industrial white subway tile makes for a great place to have lunch or dinner. Food Drinks - Just water today. They do have a self-serve Coke machine. I remember seeing a sign for Kombucha too. Dinner - A very simple menu. As for main meals there are the three columns; Classic Bibim-bab, Fresh Bibim-bab; and Top Bab. So each column has four proteins; beef, pork, teriyaki chicken, and tofu. So that creates 12 items and lucky thirteen is a kimchi bokkum--bab. I started at the top of the menu #1 the Classic Bibim-bab with Bulgogi which is a Korean marinated beef on cooked spinach, carrots, cucumber, radish,egg, and zucchini. All the veggies are filed into section of the food container and then topped with the protein. You can mix them up like my wife did or keep them separate like I did. What is crazy is that they all looked like noodles except for the protein. I loved the beef. I also added some of the super hot sauce which was great. My wife was dying with the little amount she added. Since she was eating gluten free they have separate sauces that you need to ask for. Her hot sauce made mine feel like one while hers was eight, a take a dip into the fire. I love heat and the regular extra hot sauce was perfect. The gluten free made sure you were awake, a beer would have been great with this heat. Bonus we got a miso soup served in a coffee cut, this is not a vegetarian dish as it has fish paste. Excellent soup and would go back just for this little treat. Service - Excellent. The cashier was super friendly. My wife explained her dietary concerns. Then the cashier explained the options of what would work for my wife. They called our number, and my wife came from me. As I was asking which sauces were gluten free she was grabbing the sauces. Timing is everything. Future - Yes, and I know my wife found another place she loves for gluten free vegan choices. read more

This was my first and probably last experience with the Bab Café. I wanted so badly to like this restaurant and it seemed to have every potential based on reviews. However, I ordered off of GrubHub and it's a lot like the scene in Llethal weapon to when Joe Pesci goes on his tirade about the drive thru. I got screwed. Unfortunately for me they forgot one of the most important items--the sauce for the bulgogi. Without the sauce it wound up being fairly bland and not at all what I was looking for. On a positive note, the potstickers were pretty good, but I'm not typically looking for the potstickers to be the highlight of the meal. When I called to let them know of their mistake, the only thing they offered was a free drink or the sauce if I wanted to walk all the way over there from my hotel. It would stand to reason that if I didn't want to walk from my hotel for the whole meal that I probably wouldn't want to walk all the way there just for sauce. Like I said, mine may have been a one off and I recognize that mistakes happen, but you have to do something to fix it when you mess up. Unfortunately they probably won't get another chance to fix that for me. TLDR? Pros: polite staff, fast delivery. Cons: incorrect order, main dish bland, no reasonable rectification of their mistake. read more

Bab Cafe has joined our regular rotation for places to go out for a quick meal/ pick up dinner from when we are too lazy to cook. Everything is so tasty and fresh, and I appreciate the veggie options and the ability to sub different proteins in different dishes. The two favorites have become the classic tofu bibimbap, and the kimchi fried rice. They have super yummy sauces to throw on top, but honestly everything is still super good without it (but I love sauce so I will never stop using them). I also love that they have a punch card- I have already received some free food, and that's always exciting! And they have a student discount, so don't forget that ID, as I always do. On top of this, the staff is always super friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere is very nice. Even if you aren't sure you like Korean food, give this place a try. Today was my first time here, and I must say this is on of my new favorite places. I don't White rice so my choices were limited so I chose the Mandoo, Which is a type of potstickers. They don't have a very big menu because they prefer to focus on doing a few things very well and they do. This is a great place come with friends or family because the atmosphere is very nice in the staff is very friendly. Food is very good. A bit expensive, but lunch out is these days. My only complaint is they ask for tips, but do not bring you your order and there are signs all over asking for people to buss their own tables. I served and bartended for ten years, what exactly are they expecting a tip for? Expect cafeteria service. After a 15% tip, my lunch was $17 and change for a standard bowl with no drink. There are plenty of solid Asian lunch spots with wonderful service where you can get food at a fraction of the cost. read more
