Went there for lunch more than 3 times and love it. Outside is nice when u have your four legged family with you and inside is also nice for small or large groups. Lovely al fresco dining in downtown Lombard. I had the apple, brie, bacon and spinach salad with house dressing ($9) and husband had their sweet potato veggie burger, with peach iced tea. My salad was generously portioned and delicious. If I were serving it I might have added some pecans and/or cranberries, but that's just me. Good service, too. Only reason gave it 4 stars is hubby wasn't wow'd with his selection, though it was good. read more

Really like the food and overall feel of the restaurant, but was taken back when I asked for a grey goose & cranberry the waitress fired back with "we serve beer & wine only but if your looking for a different drink you can go to the bar down the street" (meaning the dive bar down the street). It was only my second time there I wasn't aware and was happy to order a beer. The waitresses response was condescending & pompous and not to mention a bit embarrassing. The burgers are to die for. Every component: bun, patty, toppings, is fresh flavorful and perfect. Really friendly service. Building is from 1850s which is cool. Small restaurant and I don't believe they take reservations. But I think if you don't come at peak times, there is little to no wait (we were seated without long wait, once at 5pm and once after 8pm). They have a well curated local beer list, but I also appreciated that they had several craft sodas plus fresh lemonade so you can still have a "fun" drink even if you can't drink alcohol. read more

This place is phenomenal! First off, the building it is in is like from the 1800s and it's awesome to see they didn't destroy it when building out their restaurant. Concept is great - counter service during the day and at 4pm they switch to table service. Everything is made from fresh ingredients, which you don't see a lot in restaurants nowadays, coming from someone who worked in the industry for many years. Babcock's is a great lil spot. The food is delicious. The cheese curds are a must. Burgers, salads, sliders, pork, veggie options are all great. They make all they can from scratch, in house. After reading many of the other reviews, I really, really want to like this place, but it just doesn't hit the mark. Eat there (mostly take-out) at least 2x per month, since the SO likes their burgers and buffalo chicken. I've been disappointed by the main course salads -- wayyy too much green stuff, especially when it's advertised with other ingredients. Smash-burger - meh. Doesn't do it for me. The Slider Sampler --- buns were soggy, only one I sort of enjoyed was the burger. The pulled pork was disappointingly DRY and the buffalo chicken -- extremely spicy. Not for me. The Archie Rundown: My first impression when walking in was eh. The space was small and everything was crammed. It seemed as if they were trying to fit an entire country into a living room. Of course because it was so crowded we had to wait outside for a half an hour to get seated. The hostess and waitresses were very friendly and what appeared to be a manager welcomed us very well. When we finally sat down the menus were odd and hard to read. The whole vibe of the establishment was very hipster and liberal. They food was good. I had the classic cheeseburger and the Belgian style fries. The drinks were as if the restaurant was in a TV show and didn't want to get in copyright trouble with Coca-Cola. I had the "grape cola" which was pretty much a $3 glass of cough syrup. No dessert but I would expect to to be sub paar and overpriced just like everything else. The food wasn't anything special but it was good. Overall, the service and the food gave this the 3 stars it deserved. read more

I live in Lombard and my husband and I are very glad that Babcock's opened so close to home. I like that the downtown area is getting some cool new places to eat and we were excited to try this place; we were not disappointed. The food is good and there are a lot of options, especially if you are gluten free or vegetarian, but they still also have big juicy burgers. Speaking of the burgers, my husband ordered the Turkey Shallot burger and there was unexpectedly mustard and mayo on it, two things my husband hates. Neither condiment was listed on the description and he couldn't scrap all of it off so he didn't enjoy that burger too much, but I won't take stars off, we will just ask more questions next time (but I do suggest a more comprehensive description on the menu). We enjoy sitting at the bar and talking with the employees, all of whom have been very nice and also knowledgeable about the beer list. We will continue to go back and try all the different and changing menu options. The place is small and we have had to wait a few times, but you can order a beer while you wait and hang out on the steps outside, which was great since the weather was nice. We have yet to sit outside to eat but I like the fact that outdoor tables are an option. read more

My husband and I went during the summer. Amazing French fries!!!!!! I had the burger with bacon and beer cheese. It was delicious! My husband had the burger with mashed potatoes on it. He expected it to be a little better since there were great reviews on it, but it wasn't bad. We would gladly go back to try more! Though if you're a vegetarian, there aren't a lot of options. They have a sweet potato bean burger for vegetarians, and a rabbit plate (raw veggies w/ humus) and maybe a salad or two I think. We have eaten here now 4 times, 3 for dinner, once for lunch. I've had something different each time and have never been disappointed. My husband sticks with the Beer Cheese Bacon burger and never gets sick of it. The service, the food, and the place itself is great. I really enjoyed my meal here. Atmosphere was wonderful and want to go here again just for that. The food was pretty good too - we tried the cheese curds which were definitely delicious. Hubby didn't like his burger because he's been spoiled with burger places like Au Cheval or Kumas and Burger Antics, but if you go here for their other sandwiches and salads, I'm sure it would be a hit. I had the chicken apple brie sandwich and it was delicious. The beers on tap/bottle were really good too and the servers were really nice. Kind of hard to hear in the restaurant because it was so small/busy, but that was okay for me. The food was good, nothing super amazing, but a good local area restaurant where portions are reasonably sized. Expect a wait on a Friday night after 6 PM but you can sit at the bar. As a Lombard native, I have to admit that this restaurant is bar none the best restaurant in Lombard. Not only for their food but also their service. My wife and I went to this establishment for our weekly date night. We spoke with the owner who share that this is their first attempt at owning their own restaurant. In my opinion they're doing it right. Their artwork on the wall were inspired by Lombard history. All the interesting facts that are shared and the quotes that are portrayed on the wall make this Lombard restaurant quite unique. Lastly, their food is fantastic. They also have noon whistle available to pair with your meal. For those of you that are not from Lombard, noon whistle is a Lombard best brewery off of Roosevelt Road. This restaurant has made a name for itself in the community Solely by embracing it's Lombard roots. I am impressed and would like to recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting a nice evening out. read more

What a fantastic addition to downtown Lombard! The first time eating from here I ordered takeout and it was quick and painless; I ordered a Beer Cheese Burger with Bacon and my girlfriend ordered the Chicken Apple Brie Sandwich. Needless to say, we were both blow away. The burger was just amazing, probably the best place in the downtown Lombard area to get a burger. We went back to finally sit inside and it was such a cool interior with great historical tidbits on the history of Lombard. It's a great place to bring kids but also a good date spot with some great local beers and local ingredients that go into every one of their dishes. I definitely highly recommend this place to anyone who has lived in the Lombard area and have been waiting forever to get a decent restaurant back into downtown.. read more

We went there for my husbands birthday. The restaurant is cozy, decent decor. The appetizers were awesome. We got spinach and garlic dip and cheese curds. Cheese curds were great but oily, could have been dabbed first. I got a sweet potato burger which I did not like, as the patty was just mashed sweet potato. I could not discern any other flavor in it. My husband had chicken schnitzel which he really liked. A friend had pork sliders which she loved! I'm not sure if this is just not a great place for vegetarians since everyone that chose non vegetarian options were happy with them. Overall decent, somewhat greasy food. Went on a Saturday afternoon at lunch to try it for the first time. Sat outside and enjoyed the sunshine. Food was extremely fresh, local beers on tap, decent selection of wines, and great counter service! I was extremely impressed by the courtesy of the staff and the ability of the restaurant to have choices that matched the season. I had a brie, apple, balsamic chicken panini that was perfectly cooked and the optimal lunch portion. My date had a beer cheese burger (that dripped its juices like a good burger should) and some rose wine. My date's only complaint was the beer cheese had a spicy kick that made it a little too spicy for her (maybe a jalapeno snuck in there?). We opted for the fresh greens as our side, which had a great creamy vinaigrette dressing. It was a nice light lunch. Please note that freshness=pricey. Also, there is a fair amount of street noise due to all the car traffic. 4 stars, I will definitely be back! read more
