Babe's have been in San Antonio for many years. It is sad to see it's Helotes Location do such a poor job. The entire restaurant was staffed by 3 people. The lady at the register took orders, rang them, made drinks, and took phone orders. Waited 15 minutes to place my order. I should have left then. Ordered Club and BLT. Waited 45 minutes for food. The two in the open kitchen had no emergency in getting orders out. Very slow moving. Dining room was not bussed so no clean tables to eat at. Rings were good, but my club was heavy on turkey and 2 slices of bacon. Both sandwiches slapped together. My shake had little chocolate flavor and was thin. Dirty, slow, and low quality food will not earn a return trip. I regret I added a tip prior to getting my food. Management needs to step it up and hire enough people to cover dinner rush. read more

Everyone who ate there with us that day had severe stomach pains and issues within the next 24 hours and I'm positive it was this location. Always a great cheeseburger. I can only speak for those, but I will certainly try other menu items. The food and beer menu is large, so plenty to choose from. They also have pizza and they look good! I don't care for the fries because I am a thin and crispy person. The fries here are fat and soft. They are fresh, though. No overdone or old stuff here. The food that I received tasted great. The problem I had was NOT getting everything that I ordered. My order was short two orders of fries and one order of mixed fries and onion rings. All of which, I had to pay extra for. When I called to let them know that my order was short, I was advised, to take it up with "Uber eats". Funny, I didn't realize Uber eats prepared and packed my food. The whole experience was unacceptable and unprofessional. Obviously they don't want to take accountability for there error. In a town where you can't swing a dead cat without hitting three burger places, Babe's had the feel of the average run of the mill burger / beer joint. Was not overly impressed by the decor or atmosphere. But, the food was awesome. Everything is fresh and cooked to order. I had the mushroom and swiss burger and it was good. For a side, I am fried jalapenos! Which I was surprized they were not overly hot, but did retain a heat to provide a slow after burn. Oops. This was a unpleasant surprise. The place is set up pretty well especially if you're into baseball paraphernalia. There's a bunch of large big screen TVs set to ESPN, so it looks like a fun place to watch a game. But the food was not that great compared to most other burger places in San Antonio. We went to Babe's with a coupon and ordered a couple of a burgers off the menu. It's pretty standard choices - mushroom swiss, guacamole, chili, bacon, etc. We ordered a guacamole burger and a mushroom swiss burger with bacon. The order arrived fairly quickly, and looked pretty good on the plate. The food was O-K. Not great. Not terrible. Just O-K. The burger meat is pretty comparable to fast food, but they seem to make up for it with pretty fresh add-ons. The problem is nothing really stands out. Just a bunch of basic store-bought ingredients thrown on a burger. It's also not very juicy, but very greasy. I'd say the bun was MIA by the time we finished the burger as it had been destroyed by the oil. I'd suggest making use of the A1 bottles, as the burger's are pretty blandly seasoned. After we finished eating, we left feeling okay about the food, but disappointed it wasn't better. Had it ended there, I probably would have given it three stars. However, within ten minutes of the food settling, we both felt extremely greasy from head to toe. It took copious amounts of coke, water, and beer over the next two hours just to remove the grease from our mouths. The grease in our stomachs had us feeling badly for quite a bit longer. I consider myself pretty fatty-food-friendly. I like butter and sugar and fat juicy meat, but my experience at Babe's was somewhere beyond my personal limits. If it's not past yours, this might be a nice burger joint to watch a game. read more

Not too bad! The burgers are good, cannot say the same about the fries. Greasy and soggy. It is too bad because I really wanted them to be good! (They are cut from real potatoes with the skin still on) I will return to give it another try and sample their shakes because I have heard they are good. Another complaint is that the floor is slippery from all grease in the air. The reason for this is possibly because the kitchen is right off the eating area, with really no division between the two. Came here to bring the hubby for the first time and they had nothing on the menu but burger and fries. Nothing else was available. Not even a little note to let the customers know before they make their way into the restaurant that hey we don't have wings, chicken anything, salads, nothing. Just burgers and fries. I love the Babes on Fredericksburg and have gone there for many years. When we visit SA we stay near Helotes and have gone three times to Babes on Bandera. Each time was worse than the last. Last time it was older ladies working and completely messed up the orders and forgot to make our shakes. This time my "cheeseburger all the way" was meat, cheese, hard inner core lettuce, one tomato slice and about 1/4 of an onion. My wife's grilled chicken salad was missing bacon and boiled eggs. I just ate my burger so that we can move on. My wife inquired as to the missing items and the cook stated that her salad didn't come with egg. She had to show him on the board that it did indeed include egg. To which he said, oh we're out of egg. It seems that there are not very tight controls of the very young or the very old working here. Maybe a manager on the floor. Oh, also, when you have limited seating the available tables should be bussed rather quickly as this Monday night had few patrons. This place used to be decent for a burger joint. Not anymore. One person handling register and then handling food. Two males sitting around doing nothing to help her as one male employee is counting out the tip jar, then goes to the bathroom, apparently to divide it up, comes back out and gives each employee their portion. Who is in charge here?! Chris may have been the most polite guy I've ever met in food service. And I watched him have this same demeanor with every single customer. Guy comes up to help her and they're both trying to find our items on the cash register. Someone yells from the back that they're out of turkey burgers. Why is it on the special board? Went with high hopes because they had a 4.5 star rating. I ordered a hamburger pizza, which was NOT good. I couldn't take more than two bites, which is rare for me. The crust tasted dirty & like it had been frozen too long. The onion was not cooked hardly at all. We were drawn towards "kids eat free" but my son wouldn't touch his chicken. After eating some I discovered why. The chicken was SO dry, felt like sandpaper in my mouth. My husband orders a guacamole burger. The guacamole tested bland and not fresh.. it brought down the taste of the burger. The only thing we enjoyed were the wings. Drinks were overpriced as well. We arrived about 7:30 and the place closed at 9 and it felt like the staff were rushing to get out of there. We recently dined in on a weekday, not a very busy night either. Half the place had tables that were not cleaned. The whole time we dined in, not one person cleaned off a table. People dining in after us were circling the place trying to find a place to sit. The employees were just dragging their feet. Last week we ordered take out and half our order was wrong. Only 2 out of the 4 burgers were prepared right. I even had the guy repeat my order on the phone before I hung up. So the family wanted burgers and salads so we gave Babes a try. It was about 6:45pm on a Monday night. There was only a party of three ahead of us in placing our order, so not a long wait. I decided to order the kids hamburger and fries, I also ordered a kids chicken tenders and fries for my grandbaby. My older son ordered a small Caesar salad as he was not very hungry. And my other son ordered a salad with grilled chicken and sautéed onions. His girlfriend had a hamburger. They had a special where if you buy a drink you can get a kids meal for free -- so we bought two drinks and got the two kids meals comped! That was nice! Took about 15 minutes to get our food. I was surprised that my hamburger looked the same size as my son's girlfriend's hamburger ! My patty was smaller but it was the same size bun. I ordered ketchup and mustard on my burger. It tasted delicious -- I was so glad that the meat was juicy and tender and not burnt! I was able to add honey mustard to it which even made it more enjoyable! Both my sons said their salads were pretty good. Son's girlfriend said her hamburger was very good. The only thing I was really disappointed with was the chicken nuggets for my grandbaby -- they were battered and not breaded. We stopped in before a concert and we figured it'd be fast and simple good food. WAY WRONG. Granted I came in on a Saturday evening, I had a terrible experience. Ordered a burger, fries and Nachos... TOOK OVER AN HOUR.. Had to go up to the kitchen to ask what was going on because there were people that got there after us receiving their food, received my food 5 minutes later. I got the Guacamole Burger, which literally had a teaspoon of guac on it, the patty was thin, cold, dry and burnt on the edges. Nachos actually weren't that bad but not worth waiting an hour for. Stopped in for a late night cheeseburger, was pleasantly surprised! Definitely came into the right place. Their ingredients are extremely fresh! Hearty bacon and thick sliced tomatoes, perfectly melted slice of American cheese onto of perfectly seasoned patty. Classic cheeseburger, but beyond my expectations! Food can be hit or miss (wings were raw), but the service can be bad. Especially if you are using a Groupon. I still understand and am ok if they add additional "rules" not on the actual Groupon, but if I am ordering additional items, the cost of the additional items would more the cover the value of the Groupon. I wasn't going to sit and argue with the cashier so I just had him ring me up separately. Yes, a simple solution, but he was painfully slow. Hopefully Management starts honoring Groupons without additional "rules" or simply stop participating on Groupon. We ate lunch at Babe's in Helotes today. Sabrina and Hunter are AMAZING! They greet you at the door, help you find a spot to your liking (since half the tables are marked no sitting), and then we enjoyed burgers cooked to perfection.
