The day I didn't order a burger from Babes is the day I regretted my visit. I decided I wanted chicken strips at the last minute and was so disappointed at my decision. They were battered not breaded and the grease tasted very old and fishy (reminded me of Long Johns Silver). I ordered onion rings but they brought out fries which were sad, soggy and greasy and also tasted like they were fried in the same grease. Then they brought out my onion rings and they tasted very fresh, like they were cooked in new oil along with my fried jalapeños. My BF told me I should have ordered the spicy chicken strips because they are breaded, not sure why the difference but now I know. I came here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon and it was not busy. As soon as you walk in, you stand in line to place your order. Kids eat free from the kids menu as long as you order a drink and an adults entree. This is definitely helpful if you have a lot of kids in your party. I ordered the mushroom swiss burger and my son got the kids hamburger. We sat ourselves and waited for our order to be called. It didn't take too long for it to come out. The four stars I give this Babe's location is primarily for the burgers and atmosphere. This location has a very good burger! The meat is cooked just right and when you ask for everything you get everything. I always enjoy the contrast between the veggies and the meat when it comes to eating a burger. The lettuce, pickles, onion and tomato round out the burger wonderfully. The fact that I can get a bottle of mustard off the counter gives them a whole star in my book. What can I say? I LOVE mustard on a burger! Now the fries are definitely in the limp side (not my favorite), but give me a bottle of ketchup and some pepper, and I can make them work. Got the mixed basket with fries and onion rings. The onion rings are decent but could use more seasoning in the batter. I've always enjoyed the open table concept behind the seatings at all the Babe's locations. There is just something fun about it. Surprisingly it wasn't as crowded as I thought it would be and was able to find a table that made me happy. This used to be one of my favorite places to come. The chicken strips USED TO BE awesome. In my opinion this location has strayed from the Babe's standard. I'm guessing they are independently owned and operated as it ranks well below the original location on Fredericksburg Rd. On my recent visit I was disappointed by the size of the serving. The 4 chicken strips appeared to be from an anorexic chicken and the fries were rationed. It took me a grand total of 2.5 seconds to count the fries in my basket (no joke). The second that I've been here and what can I say except that I loved this place, what makes this exceptional is it screams back to my childhood especially the signed baseball cards in the counters and tables and the retro games in the back. The help from the staff is spot on and when I came after the lunch rush they got everything right and in a great amount of time. The beer selection is great also although I did not order any at the time, I've seen a few that I have never tried before.
