Always looking for a bakery that has great Gluten Free and/or Vegan options. Finally made it here and it did not disappoint. Great customer service as soon as I stepped in. The girl at the counter explained to me everything and answered all my questions in regards to the products. Bakery has a few tables inside if you want to enjoy your goodies. They had four type of gluten free breads, including a pretzel roll which I had never seen. They had a wide selection of Dairy free/Gluten free cupcakes. Amazing including a Lavender one! Looking forward to trying that one. I got all the types of bread to take home loaf, sandwich roll, sub and pretzel. I also purchased a few cupcakes to go. Tried the pretzel bread in the car. Wow! Top 10 allergen free bakery!!! So cool! I hate to pull the "you would have never guessed by the taste" but their baked goods are phenomenal, even for those without allergies! Starry Lane Bakery is an allergy-free bakery similar to The Caring Kitchen is Sacramento (but not as cute inside). They're very strict with keeping their establishment allergy free, so if you have food allergies, you can feel comfortable coming here. They even made me put my oat milk latte in a locker outside because they don't let anyone bring anything inside that could cause cross contamination. They have gluten-free vegan bread, cookies, pies, tortes, bars/brownies, cupcakes, muffins, and cakes. I got a little chocolate tart and brought it home with me on the plane. She was nice and helped to package it for a safe journey. They suggest not refrigerating the desserts. I guess it changes the consistency. read more

I'm obsessed with this bakery! I've been allergic to tree nuts my whole life and have been visiting Starry Lane since they were at their previous location years ago. Their desserts have been a part of my birthdays, graduations, and many other life events that are made even more special thanks to their delicious and allergen-free desserts! I have never had a regular biscotti (typically almond-based) but thanks to Starry Lane I have and know I love them! Their Chocolate Chip Espresso biscotti's are delicious, and their Oatmeal Raisin cookies are also to die for. Everyone who works there is always so kind and informative, and I love the bakery space! Know before you go: They sell EXCLUSIVELY allergen-free treats. Great if you are looking for this type of dessert but could skip it if that isn't the purpose of your visit. On the pricey side ($7 for a 2-bite pastry and $70 for a dozen cupcakes) but again, you're paying for the speciality items being allergen free. Located in the very cute neighborhood of Hillcrest, Starry Lane is an allergy friendly bakery for gluten, nuts and soy and they had a good selection of items to choose from, from bread to sweet treats, and even mixes to take home and bake. They even ask to keep all outside food away to keep it safe for those who are truly allergic to those ingredients. We tried several items are our favorites were the chocolate brownie, and the chocolate chip espresso and cinnamon biscotti. My mom treated us with some pastries from this allergen friendly bakery. We enjoyed the scone and the cupcake the best. The fruit tarts were a bit dry and the frosting was too sweet. I tried there pastries one other time before and if I recall it was there cupcakes. They are vegan and gluten free friendly since they don't use eggs or dairy among other things. For my daughter to be able to walk into a bakery and eat whatever we wants, and for her to have a smile on her face because "it's so yummy," I would give this place 10 stars if I could. My daughter is allergic dairy and eggs, which are ingredients at every typical bakery, but here she's able to eat to her heart's content. We tried the cupcakes and cookies, and as someone who eats gluten, dairy and eggs, these are delicious and they don't make you feel like you're missing the "real thing." Prolly the only place in SD that make baked goods that are free of major allergens which include: gluten, dairy, egg, soy, tree nuts and peanuts. Check the full list of ingredients for each item in their website.. So far, we've tried the flatbread, molasses bread, pretzel bread and chocolate chip cookies -they are all surprisingly amazing. They will tell you also to NOT refrigerate them. I like to stick 'em in the microwave for about 10-15 sec to warm the bread and it is just perfect! They typically last about 3 days. I have tried their chocolate cupcake and brownies, those were ok to me but hey, coming from someone who bakes, and have dietary restrictions... the breads and cookies are truly exceptional. They definitely got the texture down... sometimes i forget that i'm eating a GF bread. I can say this is def at the top of my list of best! Was throwing an event and needed a dessert option for my GF and Vegan guests. I ordered half a dozen mixed cupcakes - Devils Food, Strawberry and Carrot Cake. I never tried them but they were lovely looking and my GF friend literally ate one of each and said they were delicious. My only disappointment was the cupcake size for the price I paid. went in thinking i would get healthier treats. i am glad they're allergen free. i wish they wouldn't use palm oil or ingredients that would increase inflammation. i just noticed the ingredients online. i tried the regular brownie which was good but on the oily side. tried a bite of the brownie with caramel and that was not so great. texture seemed stale but it might have been just caramel part that was too chewy. tried a bite of the campfire, it was good and moist but a bit too sweet tried the strawberry cupcake which was a bit stale it seems not much flavor. tried a bite of bundtcake it's a hit or miss! read more

Not sure if it was just a bad batch or what, but there are better places around that have options for those with allergies or dietary restrictions. The service was mediocre at best. As I've gotten older, I've learned I'm not a cupcake/cake person, so I can't provide a review on those, however the pretzel rolls are absolutely delicious. The cinnamon rolls are okay, but for people with allergies a solid 7/10. The chocolate torte is good, lemon bar is good, oatmeal cookie is good. Do some other places have "better" gluten free items? They do. But this place completely eliminates any chance of cross contamination and that is rare and really gives some people the chance to walk into a bakery and pick something from the counter without fear and I think it's a solid option!! read more

Still in search of the best cinnamon rolls in San Diego.. This is gluten free bakery. I thought, ok, why not try it. Maybe I'm missing out. If you are not gluten free, this place may not for you for cinnamon rolls. But if you are gluten free, perfect place to be! It had a texture of cupcake for their cinnamon rolls. The size of it was TINY. Are these for ANTS? I think the flavors were there but the it wasn't satisfying. There limited parking on the streets, but we quickly parked across the parking lot and had no issue. We were walking by and stopped in get a dessert - first time here. So super impressed. Everything is not only gluten free, and vegan and dairy free, but also top 10 allergen. And they have such a huge selection to choose from. The tightest decision was narrowing it down to two items. You can spend forever just peering in to the fridge windows trying to decide what to get. And they have a bar code that you can scan to get the ingredients for each item. There is no seating inside (but they hope to red-add them again soon). Not sure why there are a few negative reviews. I love this bakery best out of all the remaining gluten free, dairy free options left in San Diego. It is a bit of a drive for us but well worth it. The cakes are phenomenal, we recently had two cakes made for us. The Victorian rose garden was beautifully decorated, and the Half Rose was awesome too. For many years I made all of our gluten free daughter's 3 dimensional cakes myself, including an exact replica of her beloved dog, a horse and a princess doll cake. It's a relief to finally have a great bakery available within driving distance that I know will decorate a cake well and have is taste good too.
