New place to me. Had the Teriyaki short rib It was 100/100 I order the medium size. I was hungry but don't eat a lot so not was a good portion. The meat had so much flavor before I can even drizzle the teriyaki sauce over. Meat was soft and tender. Highly recommend this place. Very hole in the wall place! There's a small parking lot and the interior is very roomy. I was a little overwhelmed with all the options on the menu but I settled with the medium combo plate. For $13.65, it came with 2 scoops of rice, mac salad, ribs, chicken, and teriyaki sauce on thw side which I appreciated. The meat portions are definitely on the generous side! I only ate half before I felt so full. The chicken is very juicy and the teriyaki sauce is more on the thin side which I liked. The ribs were a little too charred for me but still delicious. I wish they provided more complimentary sauce (they give you the tiniest cup) but you have to purchase extra teriyaki sauce. Both came with two scoops of rice, a scoop of macaroni salad, and a small tsukemono, which is Japanese pickled veggies. The portion size was decent sized for both. Bachan's Takeout is not your typical teriyaki joint. Having cooked at fine dining restaurants, the owner kicks down Hawaiian/Japanese Food to a different level. This is a very non pretentious eatery, just down home style cooking. Everything is so good here, from their Teri Salmon, Teri Chicken, Teri Short Ribs it's all solid. Food is good but at the counter make sure you don't tip in the suggestion. There is absolutely no service. They don't take the food to you, food is still in Styrofoam when you sit inside, and when you ask for more sauce they charge you $0.50. What exactly am I paying for for the tip?? I'll pass, lots of good food in the area with service and actual utensils and will not charge for sauce. Threw away my own trash as well. BTW it was raining so there wasn't any customers. I think it was just my expectation with a bigger space there will be upgrades and a more elevated experience. Oh my! I have to say this will be one of my favorite places. I was missing the island (from my recent vacation) and found this hidden gem on yelp. The establishment is clean, spacious, has a variety on the menu, offers shaved ice, and they are a friendly family run business! But that's not the best part. The portions are still pretty big. I love getting the ahi tuna because its not bloody tasting. It works well with the sauce they give you a well. have never tried anything other than the ahi tuna. Make sure you don't dip too much into the yellow sauce or your nose will be feeling the burn. read more

So delicious. I've eaten here a couple times and have tried the Chinese chicken salad, which is light and yummy; the short rib, teriyaki chicken, macaroni salad and rice. Everything has been very delicious and reasonably priced. The restaurant is spacious enough for lunch hour. The parking lot can be tight but there is some limited street parking. Whyyyyyy haven't I been here before? This is a clean restaurant with friendly service and wonderful food. The menu is very conveniently on the outdoor windows, so you know right away if there's something you want to eat before you walk inside. The indoor space was large and clean, but it seems like a ton of their business is to-go, so there was plenty of space when I visited on a Saturday for lunch. My chicken katsu was delicious, and thank goodness I got the medium instead of the large, because I don't think i could have eaten another bite. Food took about 8-10 minutes to arrive, BUT honestly, that's a good sign because you know that your food is being made fresh! Saved this place for years, just came by today since I was around the area. i ordered a large combo with teriyaki ribs n chicken and a furikake crusted tuna. This place is located in Monterey Park at 2300 South Garfield Ave, 91754 This place has really great food, it has Hawaiian / Japanese food and desserts This place advertised takeout, but they have seating inside and restrooms are available to the customers. This place recently cut their hours, they use to be open Tuesday through Saturday and now they are only open from Wednesday through Saturday, cause they don't want to raise their prices. Their website lists their place being opened Monday through Saturday, probably should update this? Anyway I always would pay the extra seventy five cents for the brown rice and their macaroni salad is super tasty and I enjoy getting the teriyaki short ribs and two shrimps on the side and just enjoy the great tasting food with water. My mom, brother, and I dined here for first time and just loved it! I am resident of hawaii and found my mainland family love hawaii food. My brother ordered the Large combo plate.of kalbi ribs and Teri BBQ chicken. My mom got medium Teri beef plate. I ordered their popular furikake tuna which is seared and raw inside with a great Wasabi sauce and mustard. Plates are served with rice and Mac salad. They got their food just right and fresh. My brother took home 2 handmade musubi which was made upon order. One thing I note is this place is spotless and emaculate. Friendly, free parking, and will be back. They also sell a whole bunch of cute plushies for cheap. I got a handful of orders for me and my friends. I wish they labeled the orders if they're similar. Me and my friend got a medium order of Mahi Mahi / Ono with soba noodles and we couldn't tell which fish was which. Another 2 friends got medium plates of Ginger Chicken and Teriyaki Chicken. Food came out in 5 minutes and staff were very welcoming Furikake Crusted Ahi - $18.25 - 4.5/5 Generous scoop of rice with ponzu sauce, wasabi aioli, and a horseradish sauce. Was filling, but didn't feel heavy after. The ahi tuna had a nice crispiness from the furikake and didn't get soggy after pouring the ponzu over it. Only complaint was being on the pricy end with my total coming to be around $20 after tax, but will most likely be coming back to check out more of their menu and the style of food being harder to find close to East LA. read more

We were Expecting finely shaved ice, creating a soft, snow-like texture that absorbs flavored syrups. Nope not this. When I mentioned it to the owner she said she can charge me $1 for condensed milk. Plenty of open tables, area to buy their merch (did you know they sell their sauce at Costco? Highly recommend on your proteins, especially salmon!) Service: it was a phone order this time around (highly recommend because they do get busy around meal times) and it was swift, quick, and my order was correct Food: The katsu+furikake layer on the outside was still crispy after I let it sit for 15 minutes before taking my lunch. The fish tasted fresh. I like to use the ponzu and Wasabi aioli (the horseradish is too spicy for my taste). The mac salad is standard, I like it better than Ono's because it less of the greasiness. The ahi tuna looks like about a 4oz portion, the fish to rice ratio is a little off. I would recommend getting two scoops of Mac salad instead. Otherwise a very light lunch that tastes healthy and delicious. Overall, the price point is a little bit on the "treat yo'self" side, but you get great quality for what you pay for. read more
