Menu (as of Oct 2025)
Diana L.

My husband and I stopped by Bachan's on Thursday, Oct 2 around 6:20 PM for dinner. We ordered (prices as of Oct. 2025) -Large Chicken Katsu Plate - Came freshly fried and I quite enjoyed this. -Large Chicken Teriyaki Plate - It was good but chicken was slightly dry. I wish they provided more complimentary sauce (they give you the tiniest cup) but you have to purchase extra teriyaki sauce. Both came with two scoops of rice, a scoop of macaroni salad, and a small tsukemono, which is Japanese pickled veggies. The portion size was decent sized for both. I wasn't too hungry at that time so I took most of mine home. Customer Service: Good interaction with staff. The lady who took our order was friendly Indoor seating: Plenty of seating available. Parking: The shop is located in a small lot. We had no issues with parking. All in all, I'd come back!

I ordered 4 big plates to go: Chicken Teriyaki, Short Rib and Chicken Katsu (2). The total came out to $78. We waited only about 10 minutes from the time of order till we received the food, even though it was in the thick of lunchtime. Each plate came with rice, mac salad and tsukemono. Portions were generous. Short ribs were a tad overdone but overall, good value for a quick lunch.

Food 5/5! Service 4/5! Ambiance 4/5! Food just hits the spot here! Convenient for Togo! They will always serve your items in a Togo fashion or you can dine in, fast, good service, additional condiments are near by the pick up food area, come try this little local spot!

Ahi tuna

The portions are still pretty big. I love getting the ahi tuna because its not bloody tasting. It works well with the sauce they give you a well. have never tried anything other than the ahi tuna. Make sure you don't dip too much into the yellow sauce or your nose will be feeling the burn.

Food is good but at the counter make sure you don't tip in the suggestion. There is absolutely no service. They don't take the food to you, food is still in Styrofoam when you sit inside, and when you ask for more sauce they charge you $0.50. What exactly am I paying for for the tip?? I'll pass, lots of good food in the area with service and actual utensils and will not charge for sauce. Threw away my own trash as well. BTW it was raining so there wasn't any customers. I think it was just my expectation with a bigger space there will be upgrades and a more elevated experience. Delicious food corner was closed due to renovations so this was a quick pivot and was not my first choice. This was the closest.

Oh my! I have to say this will be one of my favorite places. I was missing the island (from my recent vacation) and found this hidden gem on yelp. The establishment is clean, spacious, has a variety on the menu, offers shaved ice, and they are a friendly family run business! But that's not the best part. I ordered the medium teriyaki salmon, macaroni, with side cabbage and it was so delicious. The food was fresh, and cooked perfectly moist and seasoned. I can't believe I haven't noticed Bachan's before. I will definitely return to try more from their menu and I recommend you try as well

Whyyyyyy haven't I been here before? This is a clean restaurant with friendly service and wonderful food. The menu is very conveniently on the outdoor windows, so you know right away if there's something you want to eat before you walk inside. The indoor space was large and clean, but it seems like a ton of their business is to-go, so there was plenty of space when I visited on a Saturday for lunch. My chicken katsu was delicious, and thank goodness I got the medium instead of the large, because I don't think i could have eaten another bite. Food took about 8-10 minutes to arrive, BUT honestly, that's a good sign because you know that your food is being made fresh! I recommend getting the medium-sized plate, or bring a friend to share the large. Also, make sure you know they are closed Sunday - Tuesday. Can't wait to come back.

What We Ordered: -Teriyaki Chicken/Beef Short Ribs (L) Combo $18.25 We've driven by this place countless times, but today we finally decided to stop in, and we're so glad we did! I called ahead, and they said it would be ready in 10-15 minutes. When we arrived after 10 minutes, our order was ready. Hands down, this was the best Teriyaki Chicken plate I've had in a long time. The chicken was so soft and tender, not dry at all like some other places. The sauce wasn't too sweet or too much. The beef short ribs were also very good and tender. There was a generous portion of white rice, which my son devoured. The mac salad was a bit heavy on the mayo, but everyone loved it. It was a great meal! We will definitely be back soon! Don't sleep on Bachan's, this place is the real deal!

Bachan's is a hidden gem and Ive been going here for years now. Our usuals are the chicken/short rib plate, the furikake ahi crusted plate, and a side of the chili cheese fries. The food is always cooked well and we're always satisfied here. Inside has seating if you want to dine in, but we normally order ahead and grab to go. Service is quick and efficient! They sell a-lot of knick knacks inside too but it's pretty pricey, just stick to the yummy food!

Bachans is a good old standby for our family. There have something for everyone - fish, chicken, beef, Mac salad, soba, trio fries, and even a chili cheese dog.

Dry bbq

Saved this place for years, just came by today since I was around the area. i ordered a large combo with teriyaki ribs n chicken and a furikake crusted tuna. Sorry to say but the food was quite underwhelming. The tuna was the chewiest tuna I've ever eaten.... maybe because it was cut along the grain? And the bbqs were dry and chewy as well. Anyways, my friend says she prefers Ono Hawaiian bbq.... I agree.

Furikake Ahi Tuna w/ Mac Salad, Ginger, Pickled Vegetables and Ponzu, Wasabi Aioli, and Horseradish Sauce

Surprised by how big interior was after passing Bachan's multiple times. Although they do specialize in takeout, there's plenty of seating space with comfy family vibes. Food came out in 5 minutes and staff were very welcoming Furikake Crusted Ahi - $18.25 - 4.5/5 Generous scoop of rice with ponzu sauce, wasabi aioli, and a horseradish sauce. Was filling, but didn't feel heavy after. The ahi tuna had a nice crispiness from the furikake and didn't get soggy after pouring the ponzu over it. Only complaint was being on the pricy end with my total coming to be around $20 after tax, but will most likely be coming back to check out more of their menu and the style of food being harder to find close to East LA.

Do you sell bottles of your Chinese Chicken salad dressing?

Hello! Yes we do!

Do you have spam musubi?

Hi! No, sorry we do not have spam musubi.

What happened to the little side salad with corn? And can you swap out the mac salad?

Hi Jake! We have decided to remove the little salad from the plates in order to move toward the Hawaiian plate lunch style. You can still order a small green salad on the side. Yes, you can swap out the mac salad for tsukemono or rice. Thanks for… Read more

Is your soba made in-house?

Hi! Yes, our soba is prepared from scratch daily in-house…but if you mean making the dough with buckwheat flour and rolling pin, the answer is no.

Can I call and order ahead? I called but it said mail box full.

Hi! Normally we take phone orders, but today we were so busy we could only take in-person orders. We’re still trying to staff our restaurant so our business hours will be inconsistent for a while.

Open for business yet?

Hi! Yes, but for the month of September our hours will vary as we are still staffing and training. Please call first to make sure we’re open! See you soon.

Hello any date set for reopening yet?

Hello! No official date set…but it’s looking like sometime in September!

Hello, is the expected opening date still in July?

Hi! Thank you for your inquiry. We’re working on it! Trying hard to open as soon as possible. Fingers crossed, we’ll be open in August.

Do you have an update on the reopening in Monterey park?

Hi! We’re painting and cleaning now. Still have a list of things to do before our reopening. It’s hard to pinpoint an exact date, but it’s looking like July. Thanks for thinking of us. We’ll see you soon!

Is the store still scheduled to open May 3, 2022, and when will the new address be shared? Thank you!…

We hope to be open within the next two months. Currently re-piping the entire restaurant. Our new address will be: 2300 South Garfield Avenue… Read more

Does anyone know the new address for their store? I

Bachan’s will not be staying in Rosemead after all. We will be moving to Monterey Park! We will be open for business in mid-2022. The new address will be posted as we get closer to opening day.

The ambience has improved tremendously and everything is so cute with a full sushi bar. They also have a greatly expanded menu and are offering many items that you won't find elsewhere. One of those that I tried is the castle tower. This is composed of 3 fired wonton wrappers each topped with blue crab, avocado slices and a little bit of red onion. Value wise it is definately very value priced. It seem like their lunch also has a good bento value as well. Parking is massive since it's part of a shopping plaza, though the restaurant itself seems a bit out of place and can easily be missed when you're driving by. They do have a really wide selection of rolls. The other person in my group got the spider roll and truly enjoy it. However, it was disappointing that there wasn't much variety for non-fried food in the bento combinations. A good bento box should be a balanced meal, but pretty much my whole meal felt fried. Also, the place doesn't fully represent a traditional Japanese aesthetic, it feels alot more like a Korean twist on sushi. Overall, great for the wallet and good rolls, but just okay on the balance of the bento meal.

They have amazing artwork and "relics" throughout the restaurant. It is also dim creating a more intimate atmosphere. They have their own sushi chef who makes their rolls and sashimi. Their staff are completely top notch service! Even the owner came around and asked us how our service is going. I ordered some yakitori and Im new to the scene so I haven't seen many variations. I had to try their chicken skin. Like my friend described it to me, its like eating pork grinds because it is soooo crispy! Their pork belly was good, not too salty.
