Plus, the meal comes with Mac salad and ramen/cabbage salad - which both are delish! Just a side note, for breakfast, be sure to try their Portuguese sausage and eggs with fried rice! Definitely my favorite breakfast! Their Portuguese patties are so tasty! I would suggest that you skip on their chicken katsu. I tried getting something different, and it was a disappointment. My first day back in LA I was so hungry so my sister found this spot. I got the ribs, fried rice, and salad. Everything was so amazing and the portion was a good amount as well. Greeting: there is a please wait here sign at the entryway to the dine Inn area. We were quickly and warmly greeted by the most gracious waitress. I did not catch her name. Menu: the menu offers so many great comfort food Hawaiian dishes. One thing that I noticed was that they do offer not only the classic spam musubi, but they also offer Portuguese sausage will be. Another interesting menu item that I noticed is that they offer the Filipino style lumpia, but also a Kahlúa pork lumpia. I thought that was really cool. Some of the items that I feel were very typical or usual of most Hawaiian spots included items like barbecue beef for barbecue chicken, different varieties of fried rice, loco moco, chicken, Katsu, Mac salad and wontons. There were so many items on the menu to choose from. I was very, very pleased at the wide variety of items that were available. They have a lot of little sides as well. One of their more popular dishes is the Lahaina fried chicken. It comes available in either a fried chicken bowl or as a fried chicken entrée. The entrée includes a little sides like Mac salad & cabbage or salad. Portions & Flavor: I ordered their fried rice with Portuguese sausage. The portion was pretty HUGE. I'm glad I asked for 2 eggs to go with it. It was DELICIOUS! The Lahaina fried chicken entree was large as well. I really enjoyed the salad that came with it. It's the dressing that makes it so special. It's light but a sweet vinaigrette like you'd get with Chinese chicken salads. It's a sweet, subtle flavor that just adds a little something. I REALLY enjoyed their Mac salad. I love the potato in it. That reminds me of my grandma's. That alone reminds me of home. Ambiance: the dining room area is very cute. It feels like you're on the patio or outside dining along a very cute little village street. There are lanterns and old street signs looks like old street lamps. There are signs for things like Maui tours or fishing excursions boat, houses, and other restaurants. The murals on the wall are beautiful. You have a mural of a whale as it emerges out of the water, along the shore with hibiscus, bromeliad, and other plants in flowers along the banks. You have the palm trees swaying in the breeze. It's just very pretty. The artwork in here is beautiful. I like the cute signs paired with the street lamps. I feel like it gives this place so much character. "Loco moco. Is Mom's response to what she wanted for lunch. There's probably a half dozen Hawaiian restaurants near home (at least!) but we wanted to try a new place... ... well. I've been here but it's literally been at least a decade since the last run, so it was time for a come back. Took a lunch break and drove up. We arrived maybe thirty minutes into opening time and already a few tables occupied. We didn't take long putting our orders in since we pretty much already knew what we wanted before we arrived: loco moco for Mom and Portuguese sausage and eggs for me. And an order of Portuguese sausage musubi to start. I love the whole Hawaiian vibe interior. Not because the whole place is decorated as such, but just the overall feel of it. It felt sorta homely. Wasn't long before our food started trickling in. PORTUGUESE MUSUBI: I picked this because I wanted to steer away from the usual Spam version. I remember having this the last time (albeit a loooooong time ago!) and the overall flavor is still on point. Rice was fluffy. Seaweed added to the taste and the protein was the center of it all. PORTUGUESE SAUSAGE AND EGGS: I guess I was kind of on a theme of some sorts, but I haven't had Portuguese patties for awhile! They were were seasoned salty and although I thought they were a bit overdone, they were delicious! Packed with so much flavor, combined with eggs and rice, it didn't need anything else. Just for fun, I dipped a couple of small pieces on Mom's gravy (from her order of loco moco) and made it a different bite! Delish! Mom enjoyed her plate. Couldn't finish it because of how massive this plate was! I get it, I didn't finish mine either. We had enough for second meals. FOOD: 5. SERVICE: 4. VALUE: 4.5. You get more for what you pay for, the servings are generous! PARKING: Street and private lot at the back. Not an issue for a midweek lunch. OVERALL: 4.5. This place is a gem!!!! I got a two plate combo of Lahaina friend chicken and Kahlua pork. It came with macaroni salad but I don't prefer so I substituted it for chicken salad. It also came with cabbage salad. All was delicious. I didn't try the cheesecake but my girlfriend did. It was delicious and I was so thankful I tried some. I would get it when I go back. I loved the teriyaki sauce, though I did not use it with my chicken. Today we met at Back Home in Lahaina. This seems to be popular Hawaiian restaurant as it was busy when we arrived at 11:30 and even busier when we left two hours later. The menu was extensive with many choices. A couple of us chose the Lahaina platters and others had individual plates. The portions are really big for their price, which is awesome! It came with a side of rice, mac salad, and their special salad/slaw. I thought the food was really good and flavorful. The staff are warm and welcoming when you sit and eat. There are times that pick up is very busy as well as the sit and dine area. Staffers were friendly and offered great suggestions. Food came out at a decent time. Had an issue with one of my kalbi short ribs (it was was really charred) and was able to get another one cooked perfectly. Food Of Choice: 1) Spam Masubi (Hawaiian-Style sushi wrapped with nori (seaweed): It was good. Came with three pieces. 2) Lahaina Fried Chicken (Our Famous Hawaiian-style fried chicken nuggets.): Actually like the fried chicken. It wasn't overly battered or didn't have grease coming out of it. Had a crunch with almost every single bite and the teriyaki sauces complimented the nuggets well. 3) Chicken And Beef Combination (BBQ chicken and kalbi spare ribs): Thought the chicken and beef was good. 1 of the kalbi spare rib pieces was charred, but was able to get it switched out with a new one that wasn't charred. The combination also came with ramen salad and mac. Really liked it. 4) Kalua Pork (Seasoned shredded pork cured in Hawaiian salt. Inside of therestaurant... the wall murals and decor are beautiful and awesome! Service by Novelyn was excellent! She knew when to take our order, refill water glasses, and provide takeout box with package! (Yes, I was unable to finish my meal!) Food (authentic Hawaiian cuisine) was on point! Back Home In Lahaina is what you would expect of Hawaiian comfort food with decent service and a fun ambiance. At least that was the expectation going into this experience. Of course I want to take into account the recent tragedies that has occurred in Lahaina when writing this review and really we went...and this was a far drive...because we wanted to support the community in some way. The interior of the space has a kitschy feel as if we were on the streets of Old Town Lahaina. The space is homely yet has this hole-in-the-wall feel that felt appropriate for the space. The service here was good, albeit understaffed. I can imagine this being a nightmare with a larger crowd at a busier time, but at the time we arrived it was manageable. The food is pretty much greasy spoon Hawaiian style. Hearty portions with food that sticks to the bones. If you're on a diet, don't come here. The food is heavy and filling and you'll definitely be bringing some of it home. With that said, it isn't really sophisticated food or at least in its preparation. I think you can do homestyle greasy spoon type of food and still make it with some finesse and this place was not that. It's not to say it wasn't satisfying, but if you're looking for nuance and layers of flavors, you won't get that here. The cost is higher than what it should be for what its serving, but it is what it is. It's worth a visit, but manage your expectations. read more

So the only reason why we stopped by this place is because we ordered pizza next door. We decided to get the Hawaiian Fried Chicken plate to go with our pizza. Luckily, they have a to go section, to the right side when you first enter. They have pastries and yummy desserts to take home with you. You can order from the full menu to takeout too.
