This place has hands down the best steaks. I've been to Pittsburg, Chicago, Indianapolis, Peter lugers, Charley's, Bern's, Ruth chris, but have never had such a great perfectly cooked steak. The service is great, owners and chef are super friendly. The wine list and cocktail list are extensive and reasonably priced. My only fault is sometimes the sides are a little heavy handed with the salt and sometimes the other proteins on the menu don't get as much love as those steaks. My god though, THOSE STEAKS! !!!! those little things can be overlooked when a place shines in all the important areas of a steak house, good wine and AMAZING STEAKS. read more

Came to this place for the first time because of the reviews however after waiting about an hour for our food, it was totally NOT worth the wait. I actually asked if it was common to wait this long and much to my surprise... the server said yes. We ordered a filet Mignon and their famous burger. The burger came out first and it was totally cold, the mignon was no better. The filet Mignon was ok- not a five star cut. They took the burger back to warm it BUT they just over cooked it. completely over cooked. They have a great selection of bourbons and scotches but as far as the food and the LONG wait... Wow! Very impressed with this find. The service was friendly and everyone enjoyed their meals. The boneless ribeye (medium rare) - mouthwatering. Grilled chicken, juicy and flavorful. I would have given it 5 stars, but there isn't really a kids menu (so they ordered sides) and the black windows on the outside doesn't make it very enticing to walk into, but once you're in there it's fine. I recommend they change the entrance. Just doesn't feel like you're walking into a restaurant. It's dark windows and you have no idea what a little gem is behind the doors. read more

I would not consider myself an expert on steaks or on how to cook them, but this little hole in the wall certainly know steaks...intimately, passionately, and wonderfully! I have been twice since moving into the Apopka area and have not been disappointed yet. I always get a filet wherever I go, but this is the first place where I could cut it with my fork. It practically melted in my mouth. The seasoning on the steak was excellent, as were the sides that you can choose from. It is a small space, and very popular with the locals. So if you want to eat during primetime hours, you'd better have a reservation. Otherwise just eat there on weekdays other than Friday. They have an excellent variety of beers, wines, and mixed drinks. I prefer beer, but my dining companion raved about his Old Fashioned. Cannot remember the bartender, but that title does not do this artist justice. He is knowledgeable, witty, and passionate about the art of mixology. The staff is friendly and perform their duties with a smile on their face and pep in their steps. I have not had a complaint yet. The owner makes a point to greet each person and is very pleasant. This is my new "go to" restaurant for special occasions and I highly recommend it! read more

Just attempted to come here for a new place to enjoy with family. Honestly the staffing here is wonderful and entertaining. I order the Burger which has claim "Best one you'll ever eat". Hate to disappoint, but sub par 2.4/5 stars. My advice you could get a better Burger anywhere else. Over all pretty amazing place, would I come here again? Food was excellent- but have to give this place 3 stars due to the excessive wait time for our meals and mediocre service. The restaurant is located in a strip mall, never would have guessed it would be there. We dined on a Friday night and the place was very busy, I highly recommend reservations. Appetizers were very good, we placed our orders and didn't get our entrees for 45-60 minutes after finishing the appetizers, service was mediocre. Server didn't come and give us any updates on the delay and didn't do a great job keeping up with beverages. Maybe it was just an off night; as I have read a lot of excellent reviews. read more

My husband and I just left The Backroom Steakhouse and I cannot say enough AMAZING things about this little hidden gem. We are always looking for locally owned restaurants and it's the season for Magical Dining. I looked up the reviews and immediately knew we needed to visit this place. My husband and I both come from the restaurant world and we respect the fact that the owner Ed comments on all the reviews given. We got there early and had a seat at the bar. We ordered some cocktails and Escargot. I have never had Escargot and I have to say it was Delicious!!! Garluc and butter are a quick fire way to my heart. The service was great and my martini was just the right amount of dirty. We were seated with Misty as our server and she was also wonderful. Our dinner did not disappoint. Ed and Tommy both came to our table to check on us, which I love, not all owners and chefs do not visit tables. I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!! When we got in the car to go home my husband and I both said this is one of the BEST dining experiences we have had. So Thank you Backroom Steakhouse, Ed, Tommy and Misty for taking such good care of us. WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK. read more

My husband and I have been passing by the sign for this place since we moved into the Mt. Dora area. Last weekend we decided to give this place a go. I have to say, the food here is amazing! The restaurant is apparently going through some renovations, or an expansion. The tables as they currently are are pretty packed in. If you come here during the renovations, you have to make a reservation if you want to get in on a Friday or Saturday night. We tried to go there the weekend before and they said that the next available table wasn't for another hour and a half. So, we ended up eating somewhere else. I definitely look forward to when they open up the other side. The service was prompt and friendly. We ordered the fried calamari to start - which was delicious. They also gave us complimentary bread with herbed olive oil which was addictive. My husband usually never asks for more bread, but he sure did ask while we were here. Not because our food took too long, but because he just couldn't stop eating it even with our appetizer in front of us. For our entrees, we both ordered New York Strips - medium rare. They were both cooked perfectly. The prices for steak here are more expensive than what you would find at your regular everyday steakhouse. But, these steaks were definitely top notch. Just tried this steakhouse out last night. We had a reservation and were running 10 minutes or so behind. They were so kind about it and sat us down immediately. The food was great. The service was OK, expected a little more though. We asked a few questions about some of the entrees and received very short responses that only left us with the same curiosity as before. We also ordered dessert at the end of our visit to go which we were almost certain was taken to the wrong table. Waited 15-20 minutes for them to bring out ours so we could leave. On the plus side, it was absolutely delicious. Lastly, we were disappointed only to find that for the size of the restaurant and the atmosphere they were attempting to accomplish, that there was only one bathroom within the entire restaurant. A GREAT STEAKHOUSE OVERALL!!! We had a 6 PM reservation, party of 3, there was only one other party in the whole place. The hostess decided to seat us in the adjacent table, I objected as the other people had a larger party and there seemed to be no reason what we could not be seated at a quiet table, the hostess complied with my request (a pet peeve). We did not have appetizers, but did order a bottle of wine which was excellent and priced well. The waitress Taylor was very nice and helpful. We all ordered the Filet Mignon, my wife ordered MR, my daughter and I ordered Med. My steak came out Rare, they took it back and cooked it some more, it came out in only a few minutes "perfect". The steaks were delicious as were the sides. We did order desserts, there was a Bourbon Pecan Pie, which seemed more like a cake, huge portion topped with ice cream, not as good as it looked. My daughter had the Key Lime pie, it also was the texture of a cake, so I would not order these desserts again. Otherwise a wonderful meal and had a great time. read more

Very happy with my decision! Made a reservation a few days before online, but called to check if it was there due to problems I read about in another review. The restaurant was closed so I left a message. Not only did the owner, Ed, personally call to confirm, he honored my request for a private booth. The service was excellent! Our waitress was pleasant, knowledgeable about everything on the menu, and we never felt rushed. At my request, the bartender made a delicious blackberry martini! We shared the oysters Rockefeller and iceberg wedge as appetizers and both were fantastic! My ribeye steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare and complimented well with the asparagus and sauteed mushroom sides. I topped the evening off with creme brulee' that would curl your toes, it was so light & creamy with the perfect crunch. Yum! We will definitely be back!!!!! read more

Most bang for the buck of any steakhouse in Central FL. 2 sides are included with every entree and they are all high quality. I have been here many times and never had a bad meal. The steaks are not as good as the very expensive steakhouses in town like Del Frisco's and Ruth's Chris but they are the best in this price range by far. The prime rib sunday's are one of the best in town and they will let you request the end pieces. I recommend having them char it Pittsburg Style. Every meal I have ordered hear has been cooked perfect. The ribeye is my go to steak, but if you want to order other things from the menu the lamb chops are great and so is there burger. The risotto and the asparagus are my two favorite sides with the broccolini being a close third. Reese's Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake is my go to order for dessert. I have not had the sea bass yet but the staff heavily recommends it. The staff is one of the best. They work as a team so multiple people attend to your table. The drinks are all great, and the manager always comes around to see how your meal has been. Class act all the way. Truly a hidden gem that only the locals know. Thank you Heather McPherson for your review in the Orlando Sentinel that tipped me off to this place. I can understand why you admit you wanted to keep it your secret. Overall disapointed!! My fiance had the ossobuco and it was amazing. Her friend had the boneless Ribeye and it was good. I ordered the Porterhouse ( a $50 steak) and it was not good. The temperature was medium rare which is what I ordered, however, there was absolutely no char on the outside and the texture of the steak a little off. Gotta get the grill hotter!!!!
