This place really is as good as people say. I have been here for special occasions such as birthdays and anniversaries. The interesting thing is that I don't even eat steak or beef of any sort, which they are known for. I usually order the Roasted Vegetable Dinner. It is amazing and I sometimes crave it. A lot of places are a little lazy with their vegetarian items, but not the Back Room Steakhouse. They also have the best Old Fashioned I have ever tasted. I love the Back Room. Greeted by an awesome host. Appetizers were excellent, we had the crab and Brie flatbread and fried calamari. Entrees consisted of tomahawk steak and pork chop. Both were excellent choices! Mushrooms were a little to salty for my taste but the manager fixed that right away by replacing it with a different side. Creme brûlée was light and burnt just right. Eight of us had dinner here last night. Six different meals were ordered and everyone enjoyed their meals. Appetizers were delicious and were delivered to the table in a timely manner. The server was attentive without being overbearing, and the various food courses were brought to the table with appropriate spacing. Often, with a group that large, the main course overlaps with the appetizers and salads, or they are spaced too far apart. Midway through the meal, the owner stopped by to check on us. The restaurant recently reopened to inside dining (due to the Covid-19 shutdown), and all the employees wore masks. As with most restaurants now, condiments were given after being asked, to limit the amount of containers that required cleaning after being used. A nice touch was a small bottle of hand sanitizer on the table for our use. This was a great celebration of friends. We were happy to dine here, support a locally-owned business, and enjoy a great meal. Nicely done, Back Room Steakhouse! read more

We're carnivores who have lived in the area for 4 years but have never been to the highly rated Back Room Steakhouse. Thanks to my birthday that changed last night. So here's the deal. Although it's in a strip mall next to what may be the worst chain restaurant on the planet (Beef O'Brady's) the vibe of BRS is cool. Retro almost. Kind of an early 80's motif - leather, wood, stained glass etc. Service was quick and attentive throughout our time there. There was a slight delay in getting our drinks, but the place was busy so no biggie. As an appetizer, we shared the short rib eggrolls. We had very high hopes for these. However, they were just OK. The eggrolls were oddly cut and you had to be very careful handling or the short rib would just plop out. Taste? Eh. For entree's my wife had the Chilean Sea Bass and I had the ribeye. It's a steakhouse after all. The Sea Bass was 100% average. And while the portion was solid $38 bucks? PLEASE! The ribeye was good and cooked perfectly, but the flavor was (again) nothing spectacular. Same for the accompanying risotto. And how is an aged ribeye less than Chilean sea bass?? Anyway, our first BRS experience was a good one, but the food is not a 4 or 5-star experience in my opinion. Still, it's only a few miles from where we live and a decent to solid place to eat. Albeit WAY over priced. As for the dress code? That's a myth. We saw everything included a guy in worn overalls. read more

Normally I would eat steak at a steakhouse, but I was not in the mood. The shrimp cocktail was served on a bed of arugula with a dollop of sauce in the middle. I didn't eat all of the arugula it because of the sauce. Putting a sauce on the side would've made much more sense. The roasted vegetables are described as being served on a bed of creamed spinach. More like a mini pillow. Centered in the veggies. Good and not overpowering but I'd have liked more spinach. Creamed or plain. The veggies were chopped into little cubes and mixed together. The meal wasn't worth $32 though. The service was quick, efficient and friendly. I placed in a reservation on open table and checked in at the front but they called me while I was there to see when I would be arriving. We were finally able to finally eat here tonight. The steak was cooked perfectly, best sweet potato fries I've ever had, friendly and cozy atmosphere. The steak was tender, great flavor, great made-to order hand crafted cocktails, awesome bread and the staff made the dinner very pleasurable. We visited this restaurant Saturday evening with my parents for a Mother's day celebration (1 day early) after hearing about the rave reviews. Well, we were quite disappointed, 2 of the 4 meals came out with a 15 minute time difference! So half of us were eating and the other half were not. One of our steaks was the ribeye, which was small, thin and cold. They should have replaced that steak but instead gave out dessert. Then, we waited quite a while to to get the bill for the evening when there was just a few tables filled so no reason for the delays. The only reason this is not 5 star is because that should be reserved for truly amazing experiences. Apopka, you finally have a fine dining experience in a casual atmosphere. We are very disappointed to have to write this experience we had last night. My husband and I made reservations at 6:15pm for three guests at Back Room Steakhouse in Apopka to celebrate our 31st Anniversary. The wait time to get our meal took 1 hr. and 30 min. My steak was supposed to be medium well and came back burnt. My husband ordered Sea Bass and his was floating in oil. Our waiter never came by to let us know the delay or check to see if our food tasted good. My husband called the manager and he seemed like he didn't care. My husband and I go here once in a while for a special date night. It is a hidden gem of a steakhouse that we don't every to travel towards Orlando or Winter Park area to get to. The flavor was unbelievably superb. The bill was $77 bucks which also included a house made beautiful calamari with a nice marinara and aioli sauce. We came for a good steak and had a great one. No dessert, no cocktails and good thing we savoured every bite and we were satisfied. Don't expect white table cloths and privacy. It's a small restaurant with an outstanding concept of focusing on food and flavours. You may be sitting back to back with the next table but focus on the exceptional quality of the food and service and you will not be disappointed. Up until now it has been necessary for us to travel a bit in order to get an above average steak meal. Now we have someplace in our own backyard that fits this bill. A group of us dined at The Back Room on Friday night and no one walked away disappointed. This is a very small restaurant with seating for about 60. Reservations are definitely advisable if you want guaranteed seating. We saw people turned away at the door because the entire time we were there the place was full. With such a small space, having a bar with TV's playing sports right in the dining area creates a more casual rather than a high end atmosphere. The size of the space also made for some awkward service issues. With half of our table seated with our backs up against the front window and the side of the table flush to the wall, it was impossible for the server to get to some of us without reaching across and in front of the others. Our offers to "pass it down" were declined which I'm sure was part of the training and an effort to try and keep things a little more formal. It seems we were caught between a rock and a hard place (or a window and a wall) and neither option was ideal. This may also be why drink service was a bit lax since any refilling of our glasses would have required more uncomfortable reaching. While perfectly adequate it is small things that kept the service here from rising to a level above the ordinary. It was interesting that our server bounced between the all too common lately and incredibly annoying affectation of referring to us in the first person plural; "Have We decided what We would like to eat?" and the equally annoying and overly familiar "You Guys". Neither approach fits the bill. Also serving a dessert with nuts on top after we had already established that one of our party had a severe nut allergy was actually a dangerous oversight. That brings me to the food. First we shared the short rib egg roll appetizer (thanks to a Yelp check-in deal). It was full of meat and and quite flavorful - a clever twist on a classic egg roll appetizer. Our salads were crisp and fresh and had just the right amount of the house made dressings to add flavor without being over done. The croutons on the Caesar had a nice crunch and seasoning.The bread they serve has a good crust and a nice chew and the garlic herbed olive oil along side was a pleasant alternative to butter. We had steaks (or steak tips) all around and they all came out cooked to the requested temperatures. My NY strip had good flavor and was well seasoned. My friend's filet was nice and tender. My husband's ribeye had some excessively large fatty areas that he had to trim away but the areas with the more classic ribeye marbling were very flavorful. The baked potato was fluffy. The garlic mashed potatoes were on the stiff side and had a pleasant amount of garlic without being overpowering. The sautéed spinach tasted good but was less creamy than chewy. It wasn't possible to get a portion onto the fork without a little help separating it away from the rest with a knife or the edge of the fork. The salted caramel panna cotta dessert while good, didn't really live up to its description. Neither the salt nor the caramel was particularly discernible and what they called chocolate ganache was more of a chocolate pudding, lacking the richer texture of a ganache. All this being said, we enjoyed our overall meal. If you are looking for a nice meal at a reasonable price served in an intimate space that has the heart of a high end steakhouse cloaked in the comfort and familiarity of a local family run corner restaurant, you won't be disappointed. read more

Ok, a couple of things.....my best friend raved about this place and suggested we go back with her and another couple. She made a reservation and was called back and told the place next door was having an out door party in the parking lot so we might not get a parking space. We should have known and not gone, we wanted to go to this place for a romantic night out with our spouses. This was so far from it ! The door kept opening and closing and people from the parking lot party kept coming in and out and the little kids sitting at the tables all around us. At over $30.00 a meal I do not want to listen to kids (I have them and got a babysitter). The TV's were on and a Gator game was playing--I am a huge football fan --and I mean huge ! But I could have gone next door if I wanted to watch the game and listened to people scream and yell at a tv--again $30.00 for a steak. Our waitress was great --Gina from Brockton Ma !!! What a wonderful experience! WE dined at the BAck Room Steakhouse last night and couldn't believe how fantastic it was. Having dined at some of the best restaurants in the world, and in the area, this one deserves 5 stars and more. He went with the Ribeye Steak (enjoying the creamed spinach and garlic mashed potatoes) while I enjoyed the Blackened Chicken with fettucini penne. We also opted for the risotto since the owner, Ed Conlan, was kind enough to suggest at least trying it. I am so glad he did. I have not had risotto this good since leaving Rome. It was perfection! The entire meal was amazing, as was the service. Jenny, our server, helped us out when making the final decision of what dessert to go with... and the Panna Cotta was fabulous! I'm from Apopka, I've been here all my life and I can't believe I've never been here!!!! I saw that it was part of this years magical dinning and decided to try it out! Oh man I'm so glad I came here! I had the Calamari as an appetizer and my friend had the shrimp cocktail and both were really good. Shrimps were HUGE and were not clammy at all, very fresh. The calamari was surprisingly a very decent size. For the main course we both order the 14 oz NY strip, VERY FLAVORFUL. I saw someone else order the sautéed herb crusted pork chop (it looked good! Definitely will be back to try that) they also offer two sides with the main course. You MUST, I repeat, YOU MUST get the sautéed mushrooms. I've never been a big fan of mushrooms and these mushrooms were so GOOD!!!! For desert we ordered the New York style cheesecake (literally melts in your mouth) and the chocolate earthquake (if you are a chocolate lover, you will love this) NO such thing as too much chocolate. Lastly, everyone was really friendly. Our waiter was super nice, there was a gentlemen (not sure if he was the manager or owner) came and asked how we were doing.
