I finally got to check out this restaurant & it was most certainly worth the wait! This Apopka restaurant was on the 2021 Bite 30 list so I was able to get a 3 course meal for $30. And only because I can't leave 0 stars! Ordered a medium rare steak, which came out medium well. The manager agreed with me and said he'd remake it. The OWNER came out with the steak cut in half, and said, "It looks perfect. Are you sure you don't want this?" I said it was WAY too overcooked and asked for it to be remade. Everyone at our table finished their meals, and despite my asking two different people where my meal was, it never showed up. I finally got up, and asked the manager to cancel my meal. The owner walked up, put his hands in my chest, and said, "There was nothing wrong with your steak". I told him to get away from me, and he said, "I do t want you back in my restaurant!" No problem. Came here for the first time for Magical Dining with a friend. We were seated at the bar since the restaurant was pretty packed. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff members willing to help. I ordered the fried calamari, 14 oz New York Strip with mashed potatoes, and for dessert I got the chocolate earthquake. The fried calamari to be seemed a bit soggy and cold, also it did not have a good crunch at all. My friend also had the same comment. We asked one of the workers that walked by and asked her if it was supposed to be like that and she said yes. That wasn't the best calamari I have had. My friend had the cocktail shrimp and that was pretty good. The NY Strip I had ordered in medium well came out perfect. Very good portion sized where I had to take it home. Season and cooked well. I had never been to @thebackroomsteakhouse before and I was lucky enough to win a pair of Magical dining gift cards through @tastychomps and @visitorlando !! Ok so we decided on the calamari and jumbo cocktail shrimp for appetizer. The shrimp were huge, juicy, and flavorful. The calamari were hands down the most tender I have ever had at a restaurant! Then for the dinner, My hubby and I decided on the steaks. He got the 14 oz NY strip but I upgraded to the 16 oz ribeye. Medium Rare of course. When I say that this was the most delicious steak I have ever had at a restaurant.. it's no lie! It was melt in your mouth and flavorful. Even the baked potato was perfectly cooked and tasted like they made it just for me. We ended the meal with the chocolate earthquake cake and the NY cheesecake. Both were rich and delicious. I had the pleasure of going to Back Room steakhouse during Magical Dining for my birthday and it was a wonderful experience. This steakhouse gave me an old-school feel however, it was very clean. I love the fact that they had local sports team posters in their restroom. Their Magical Dining menu was very good and it offered a large variety of food with huge portions. We first had the braised short rib eggrolls, and they were crispy and fresh. We also had the New York strip with mixed vegetables and a loaded baked potato. The vegetables were great and the meat was cooked perfectly. The only thing I would have wanted more of was a little bit more seasoning, but I understand everyone's taste buds are different and I'd rather be under seasoned than over season. The wait staff was wonderful and very efficient and getting a Star meals on time. And photographed was my dessert which was the chocolate cake which was delicious and they even saying happy birthday to me. We decided to give this restaurant a try for Magical Dining, especially since it is touted as the best steakhouse in Central Florida. For appetizers we had the short rib eggrolls, coconut shrimp and artichoke dip. My favorite by far was the artichoke dip, the shrimp looked great, but was very dry. Meals were steak, NY strip and ribeye and salmon with various side dishes, including french fries, mashed potatoes, baked potato, vegetable medley, mushrooms, broccoli and a side salad. Everyone enjoyed their steaks and various side dishes, a few of the steaks were more well done than expected but nevertheless, everyone enjoyed their meals. For dessert we had the key lime pie which was on the tart side, the chocolate cake, good, dense and fudgy and cheesecake. We also had a few cocktails which everyone enjoyed. The place is regularly busy on the weekends, but there are a few tables that can seat late arrivals. We sat down approximately 7pm. I ordered the ribeye medium rare and my guest ordered filet medium to medium well. The kitchen seemed to be very busy as our meals took quite some time to arrive. My steak arrived as mediumnwell, my guests filet was medium rare. Thus both of ordered were reversed. I sent mine back and by 8pm the replacement hadnt arrived so i canceled the order. Most of our visits had been excellent, but our last couple of visits haven't quite reached the mark. - On one visit, I ordered a steak with crabmeat, and I ended up with food poisoning. The next day, I called to speak to Ed, the owner, but when I explained what happened, he seemed as if he didn't believe me. I wasn't asking for anything; I just thought they should know. - On our last visit, our steaks were cooked as ordered, as they always are, but my tenderloin was dry. It was such a disappointment for such an expensive restaurant. - On a positive, Misty and Caleb are excellent servers, and Ed always makes the rounds of the tables to make sure customers are happy. We loved our coconut shrimp, short rib eggrolls, New York strip steaks, and cheesecake. I also enjoyed the brown butter old-fashioned from the bar. The atmosphere is nice enough although perhaps they would benefit from more space. The service is five stars - we never waited or wanted for anything. This was the weirdest dining experience I've ever had. It wasn't negative so much as it was surreal. The only thing I'm mad about is how much we spent. We ordered cocktails, I got the Mero Mero, my husband got an Old Fashioned. Here's where it gets weird. We were sitting pretty close to bar in the back, my husband had direct line of sight to our server that was making our drinks. When she finished making my drink and started my husbands Old Fashioned, the busser/food runner that was standing there chatting with her got a straw, dipped it in my drink, and grabbed a sip. He didn't drink directly from my straw, but rather grabbed a sip using his finger and a straw. The waitress saw him do it and scolded him, motioning at our table. The guy that sipped my drink looked up and made eye contact with my husband... But they still walked over and served the drinks? It was so strange! I've heard of mixologists or bartenders doing that to make sure a cocktail came out correct. But he didn't make our drinks! He was just sampling them! I just felt like this place was way too expensive for this kind of messy experience. I ended up asking for a new drink but didn't say why. Thankfully I wasn't charged, but I'm definitely never going back. I just feel like if they're sampling customer drinks right out in the open, are they skimming fries off your plate? Our server was attentive and pleasant. The food was just okay. The steak was fine, the broccoli au gratin was weird because it came out in a little condiment ramekin despite being a premium side? Giant and perfectly seasoned, tender scallops - I am not much of a polenta fan so that part of the scallop dish was just ok. NY Strip and crab cakes for the next course. I ordered the crab cakes from the appetizer menu. I am from MD - they were delicious and the remoulade was a great addition but they were not the lump crab as I had hoped for. A very large portion for an appetizer and if you like crab cakes - it's a solid choice for Orlando. The steak, the steak, the steak. Holy deliciousness ‍. I was not craving steak (and don't eat too much red meat) so I didn't do MD and clearly should have. I couldn't stop eating off my husband's plate. Fortunately, it was a very large portion to share. I am very excited to share my review. I went with my friends last night to enjoy magical dining. Truth be told I typically don't like to participate in MD, because most establishments treat you differently if you ask for that menu. (Which is a discussion for another day.) But we went. Like others we pulled into the strip mall parking lot and was taken by surprise. We went in and it was great! Greater kindly by the host, the place was clean and seating was spacious. Our server was Taylor and she was fantastic. She treated us well, checked on us just the right amount and we never wanted for anything. My friends and I all ordered from the MD menu with a few upgrades. I had the ribeye and it was awesome. They have a large drink menu and we enjoyed that too. I would have to agree with the comments on the crem brûlée, it didn't look like we expected. I had the cheesecake and my friends had that. I think they liked it enough they ate it . Certainly a good option if you are in the area. My favorite was the shrimp cocktail as it was super fresh and crisp. The steak was tasty and done exactly as ordered. I feel that there was not a lot of seasoning for my taste and while it tasted good I felt slightly underwhelmed. Maybe it was all the excellent reviews that I read. Great service and delicious food in a random, strip mall setting. Every time we've been here the servers and fare have been impecable. No, it certainly doesn't look like a upscale dining experience. But don't be deceived. This visit, hubby had the tomahawk steak and I had the sea bass. His steak was ridiculously tender and perfectly cooked; the accompanying veggies were not mushy. My fish was delicious but just slightly overcooked, probably due to the size of hubby's steak. Dessert was creme brûlée, accompanied by Irish and French coffees. Yum! Prices are equivalent to the service and fare. Parking is plentiful. And being in Apopka, it's not far from most areas. This is a perfect place for a celebration dinner or just a night out. This was our first time trying this place out - we wanted to try it during Magical Dining but didn't get a chance to. The server was nice and wore a mask. It seemed like all the servers were wearing masks that covered their nose most of the time. It didn't take long for the food to come out.
