Great restaurant if you are not celiac - Stopped by earlier in the evening to ask if they were celiac safe. Hostess said absolutely. Double checked again before getting seated. Once my friends and I sit down, we order a few gluten free pizzas (all bc of me) I triple check with the waitress that it's celiac safe and made in a dedicated oven - the waitress was pretty rude and pretty much said no obviously not that's ridiculous celiac people eat here all the time and they're fine. Celiac is a dangerous autoimmune disease and needs to be taken seriously. Bummed to write this! My friend and I were excited to dine here but it honestly was not a great experience. We made a reservation for 7:30pm. My friend arrived before me at 7:20pm and the waitress seated her early. Before I had arrived at our 7:30 reservation time, the waitress was already asking my friend why I wasn't there yet even though it wasn't even 7:30 yet. When I had arrived the waitress was already rushing us to order because I guess guests can only be there an hour max (she didn't tell us this at the beginning of our reservation). We would have been faster with picking our menu items if we knew that. We also were seated next to a storage closet. I specifically was seated right next to the storage closet door so I had to keep moving out of the way so staff could go in and out. The food and drink were good, but not great. We ordered the pork belly as a starter and there were only 3 pieces hidden under a bunch of lettuce leaves. Really overpriced for what we got. The pasta was kinda bland, brussel sprouts too sweet, spicy tequila cocktail watered down. When the waitress asked us if we wanted dessert, we kinda laughed to ourselves because we could barely have dinner. At the end of our service, I went to the bathroom and the waitress asked my friend to sign and tip for me which I thought was really unprofessional. I was only in the bathroom for 5 minutes. Parking wasn't horrible to find nearby and we were smart to have made a reservation, It was a popping spot! Maybe the best burger I've ever had in my life. It just melted in my mouth. The fries were perfect and my daughter had an amazing pizza of which she could only finish half and saved the rest for tomorrow. I didn't read a lot of the 5 star reviews but I find it hard to believe anyone who left one has eaten at a restaurant before. The pizza was fine-- I got the margherita which was overpriced for what it was and had a too-acidic tomato sauce. The crust was decent and chewy although burned in spots on the bottom (I think this is typical for this style of pizza, though). So the pizza is the one star I'd give this place. I was out for a friend's birthday otherwise I 100% would've sent my appetizer and our 2 desserts back--they were that awful. I got the anolini and if you look at its menu description it's like they threw in the kitchen sink with such odd ingredients, but I love pasta and have enjoyed a similar dish at other restaurants. Not here. It was a SMALL bowl of very hot tomato broth/consomme that was very one note--just tasted like hot, salty tomato. I think there were 3 small anolini and their filling was gross. It was spongy, tough,, and flavorless. Then there were tiny grape tomatoes too-- I love grape tomatoes but to eat them whole in a hot broth is just not it. And this was $18 for a miniscule portion. Onto dessert: I am a hobby baker and huge dessert fan. The huckleberry tart had fig slices and not sure if it had huckleberry but it honestly doesn't matter. It was super bland, the tart shell/crust was so so bad--both flavor and texture were awful. This dessert tasted like nothing and was also probably 3 inches in diameter if that... super small. But the worst dish by FAR were the French fried donuts. I have no idea how this made it out of the kitchen. I've never before tasted anything like these "donuts" ... their texture was hard and sandy...I don't even know what to compare it to. I wouldn't call these donuts at all. So crunchy and not in a good way. Almost like a shortbread cookie but super oily and flavorless and in a donut shape. I tried a tiny piece of one and could not eat more than that. My friends liked the chocolate dipping sauce. There was some kind of fruit accompaniment which was just odd. The ambiance was loud loud loud and crowded. There are too many tables jammed into the space. I don't really know what "vibes" other reviews are talking about. It was just claustrophobic, loud, and dark. The service was inconsistent as some other reviews have mentioned. The wait staff was nice. I feel like this review makes it seem like I have a vendetta against this restaurant and I really don't. Ordered pizza from here on a night in, and I was not expecting it to be this good!! We got the Burratata and the Hot Honey pizzas, and both were SO good. The Hot Honey one definitely has a kick and a generous portion of pepperoni, and the burrata one was so flavorful and I loved the dollops of cheese. The dough is thin, chewy but still has a nice crispiness to it. And it was still so hot and fresh when it got to our door. This place never misses! This is a go-to spot for me and my friends when we want some delicious food and amazing wine. The vibes are outstanding and the service is very friendly! The owner, Monica, is always extremely welcoming to us. You'll definitely need a reservation if coming on a weekend, and I've seen it pretty busy on weeknights too. My favorite cocktail is the Demon Days and my favorite pizza is the Buratatata! The menu is always changing with the season (as any good restaurant should) but the pizza list tends to stay the same. It's part of the foodie bi-laws that you know all the best food in your neighborhood. There's only so many places in Nob Hill so Back to Back got my attention right away. I've had the wood fired bread, a salad and this pizza here. It's a happening spot for the young folk from what I could gather. A youthful crew in there for the most part to say the least. On some nights they got a DJ doing in there and all that. More importantly the food is high quality and fresh. I'll be honest, the pizza was good not but great. It was like $28 for this too and I think it feeds 1. Would you be happier paying $8 less for a bigger pizza that also is going to taste good? Yeah probably. But it's a really solid pizza that won't make you feel like crap afterwards. This place is a little upscale for what I consider my expertise, but take the pricing and such out of it and I would be happy eating here always. A hidden gem in Nob Hill! Everything about this place was a 10/10...from the ambiance to the food and wine to the service. I don't know much about wine, but they have a wide selection ranging from sparkling to whites and reds. The best part, though, was the food. Between three people, we split the: - Brussel sprouts: I love how crispy and roasted these were. I believe it comes with cherries, which is the perfect addition to balance the savoriness. - Hot honey pizza: I'm a sucker for sweet and salty, so this was always going to be a hit for me. The pizza is thin with a nice, chewy crust. They give you chili oil to drizzle on top! - Summer burrata: Creamy burrata with fresh heirloom tomatoes, watermelon, sourdough croutons, and basil. You really can't go wrong. - Panna cotta: This was the perfect ending to a fantastic meal - big fan of the crumble on top. Service was fantastic and very attentive. I love wine bars and this one is one that I'll have to add to my list of places to go! They had some unique selections of wine. I stuck with typical whites but my boyfriend tried the flight of orange wines and loved it. We also got a few appetizers and a pizza to munch on during a drinks and it was the perfect light dinner for a calm weekend evening. The restaurant is a bit crammed - at least when we went there in a weekend evening it was pretty crammed. Not a huge issue, but it you are going with a large party it might be more difficult. Once we signed our check, the waiter did ask us to leave cause he needed our table which felt a bit odd because we were about to leave but he barely gave us a chance to finish our convo after we signed the check to rush us out. Such a cute restaurant in Nob Hill! There's plenty of street parking in the area, it's located on a corner so it's super easy to find. The inside actually looks bigger than you think too, but I'd recommend making a reservation because it can get super busy! The food here is really good considering I'm not a huge pizza fan but still really enjoyed it - especially the Snob Hill pizza yum!!! Had a fabulous birthday dinner at back to back tonight! The restaurant is tucked away in nob hill on a relatively quiet street. The ambiance inside is unique, modern and also very cozy. The service was INCREDIBLY fast and the servers were super friendly and helpful. To start we had the truffle fries, Brussels sprouts, and burrata. The Brussels were bomb but the fries and burrata were nothing special. For mains we ordered two pizzas (honey & snob hill) both of which were excellent and had unique flavor. We also ordered a bottle of the French Syrah, which was definitely interesting. The selection of wine is huge but the servers are knowledgeable about the list. We had a horrible experience at Back to Back and will never be "back" again. We sat outside to be served patiently for 20 minutes. A waiter said they would be out in a minute and gave us menus. To make things easier, I went into the restaurant and ordered for myself and my friend. When I went in, this snotty Back to Back worker said "we're not serving outside tonight, we're short staffed" Meanwhile the waiter told me 15 minutes earlier he'd be right out. We had our dogs with us, so it wasn't possible to eat inside. I told them I can give them the order now, all they have to do is bring it out. The manager (I guess) said the waiter is new and has no clue what he's doing. (Not your guest's fault). Anyway, he shooed me out the door with his hand saying "bye... bye.." The most unprofessional management I have ever experienced in my entire existence. He should be fired, but it is likely one of the owners (two kids I hear). Too young to realize he will lose clientele with treating clients like that. I also heard there is a new chef, the menu changed and it has been downhill ever since. It is a neighborhood restaurant I will not be supporting and neither should you. We walked down to Nob Hill Cafe two blocks away and were greeted kindly. They got water for our dogs and gave us amazing service "outside". It was a very pleasant experience after what we had just gone through. Nob Hill Cafe is the neighborhood spot to stick with. The food and service trumps Back to Back! Your response is inaccurate. You do not interact with immense hospitality. I had a really lousy service experience tonight and it's just not worth coming back. The food is good but if you're spending $300+ on dinner you expect a nice, attentive server who doesn't act like you should just not be bothering them or dining at their restaurant.
