Ordered pizza from here on a night in, and I was not expecting it to be this good!! We got the Burratata and the Hot Honey pizzas, and both were SO good. The Hot Honey one definitely has a kick and a generous portion of pepperoni, and the burrata one was so flavorful and I loved the dollops of cheese. The dough is thin, chewy but still has a nice crispiness to it. And it was still so hot and fresh when it got to our door. very adorable neighborhood spot! very nice service too. my friend and I got the me so corny pizza and burnt leek pizza to share. we were so excited to see such unique flavors! the crust was wonderfully chewy and cooked to perfection, but the flavor was good but not great. tbh there was a wow factor missing for both of these. I found the taste experience to be one toned/ homogenous. there needs to be more balance and complexity.. there was nothing pulling me back to take another bite. overall though, I would go here again for thr ambiance and to try their vegetable dishes, but not my most favorite pizza in town. read more

It's part of the foodie bi-laws that you know all the best food in your neighborhood. There's only so many places in Nob Hill so Back to Back got my attention right away. I've had the wood fired bread, a salad and this pizza here. It's a happening spot for the young folk from what I could gather. A youthful crew in there for the most part to say the least. On some nights they got a DJ doing in there and all that. More importantly the food is high quality and fresh. I'll be honest, the pizza was good not but great. It was like $28 for this too and I think it feeds 1. Would you be happier paying $8 less for a bigger pizza that also is going to taste good? Yeah probably. But it's a really solid pizza that won't make you feel like crap afterwards. This place is a little upscale for what I consider my expertise, but take the pricing and such out of it and I would be happy eating here always. My boyfriend and I LOVE Back to Back! This is our little spot every time we come to the city. The pizza is amazing, especially with the chili oil. Last time we were there, our server Faris was incredible. He was so friendly and fun. He also made sure to check on us many times, always asking if we needed anything. A hidden gem in Nob Hill! Everything about this place was a 10/10...from the ambiance to the food and wine to the service. I don't know much about wine, but they have a wide selection ranging from sparkling to whites and reds. The best part, though, was the food. Between three people, we split the: - Brussel sprouts: I love how crispy and roasted these were. I believe it comes with cherries, which is the perfect addition to balance the savoriness. - Hot honey pizza: I'm a sucker for sweet and salty, so this was always going to be a hit for me. The pizza is thin with a nice, chewy crust. They give you chili oil to drizzle on top! - Summer burrata: Creamy burrata with fresh heirloom tomatoes, watermelon, sourdough croutons, and basil. You really can't go wrong. - Panna cotta: This was the perfect ending to a fantastic meal - big fan of the crumble on top. Service was fantastic and very attentive. I love wine bars and this one is one that I'll have to add to my list of places to go! They had some unique selections of wine. I stuck with typical whites but my boyfriend tried the flight of orange wines and loved it. We also got a few appetizers and a pizza to munch on during a drinks and it was the perfect light dinner for a calm weekend evening. The restaurant is a bit crammed - at least when we went there in a weekend evening it was pretty crammed. Not a huge issue, but it you are going with a large party it might be more difficult. Once we signed our check, the waiter did ask us to leave cause he needed our table which felt a bit odd because we were about to leave but he barely gave us a chance to finish our convo after we signed the check to rush us out. We were asking questions about the menu and she was responding with curt one-word answers which were unhelpful. We had to request her to light the candle at our table THRICE! She also dropped a solid bit of wine on the table while pouring out a couple glasses for us, and there were no apologies or napkins! The food itself was mediocre at best. We ordered a burrata which came with a thick base of sun-dried tomato paste which had a bitter aftertaste. We had a horrible experience at Back to Back and will never be "back" again. We sat outside to be served patiently for 20 minutes. A waiter said they would be out in a minute and gave us menus. To make things easier, I went into the restaurant and ordered for myself and my friend. When I went in, this snotty Back to Back worker said "we're not serving outside tonight, we're short staffed" Meanwhile the waiter told me 15 minutes earlier he'd be right out. We had our dogs with us, so it wasn't possible to eat inside. I told them I can give them the order now, all they have to do is bring it out. The manager (I guess) said the waiter is new and has no clue what he's doing. (Not your guest's fault). Anyway, he shooed me out the door with his hand saying "bye... bye.." The most unprofessional management I have ever experienced in my entire existence. He should be fired, but it is likely one of the owners (two kids I hear). Too young to realize he will lose clientele with treating clients like that. I also heard there is a new chef, the menu changed and it has been downhill ever since. It is a neighborhood restaurant I will not be supporting and neither should you. We walked down to Nob Hill Cafe two blocks away and were greeted kindly. They got water for our dogs and gave us amazing service "outside". It was a very pleasant experience after what we had just gone through. Nob Hill Cafe is the neighborhood spot to stick with. The food and service trumps Back to Back! Your response is inaccurate. You do not interact with immense hospitality. Additionally, your response to a patron's poor experience mimics that of my experience at Back to Back. You do not handle your reviews professionally or your patrons at the restaurant. Such a cute restaurant in Nob Hill! There's plenty of street parking in the area, it's located on a corner so it's super easy to find. The inside actually looks bigger than you think too, but I'd recommend making a reservation because it can get super busy! The food here is really good considering I'm not a huge pizza fan but still really enjoyed it - especially the Snob Hill pizza yum!!! However, I give a 5 out of 5 truly for service because we had a vegan in the group and even tho there's no vegan items in the menu, they were able to make adjustments so everyone at the table can enjoy! read more

The service was INCREDIBLY fast and the servers were super friendly and helpful. To start we had the truffle fries, Brussels sprouts, and burrata. The Brussels were bomb but the fries and burrata were nothing special. For mains we ordered two pizzas (honey & snob hill) both of which were excellent and had unique flavor. We also ordered a bottle of the French Syrah, which was definitely interesting. The selection of wine is huge but the servers are knowledgeable about the list. The fries were crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. My son had the mushroom Brie pizza, also excellent. I had the hand made pasta with cheeses and zucchini. I don't know how they got the zucchini slices to be so flavorful. My girlfriend and I visited Back to Back restaurant in San Francisco at 6:30 PM this Friday night, and it was an incredibly disappointing experience from start to finish. 1. Horrible Service We were seated at table B5, which is the worst table imaginable. The two of us were crammed into a corner at the bar, with more than half of our space taken up by the bartender making drinks. When the seat next to us cleared, we asked to move to have more space but were promptly pushed back into the corner when another group arrived. It felt like we were an afterthought. 2: Unacceptable Wait Time It took over 30 minutes for anyone to even take our order. This was despite the fact that the bartender, who was also our waiter, was right in front of us. The lack of attention and care was evident and frustrating. 3: Cold Pizza When our food finally arrived, one of the pizzas was cold. For a restaurant that charges over $50 per person for a basic pizza and wine this is simply unacceptable. 4: Ineffective Management We spoke with the manager about our concerns, and all we received was a cursory apology. There was no attempt to rectify the situation or make up for our poor experience. I am typically too lazy to write reviews, but the combination of awful service, long wait times, cold food, and high prices left such a horrible taste in my mouth that I felt compelled to share my experience.
