If my burger order had been correct I'm sure I would have given Backcountry Burger bar five stars no questions asked. Instead, they get five stars for successfully swimming upstream. You see, After about a half an hour wait we were seated at the table and proceeded to order. I asked for my burger medium, no sauce. What arrived was a very well done hamburger. While everyone else ate I waited as the manager promised to send me out the correct Burger. What came out next was a burger swimming in BBQ sauce. At that point I was full from my beer and french fries and everyone else was done eating. The manager, comped our entire bill and made us all very very very happy and much more likely to return. For what it's worth, the fresh cut fries were delicious and never soggy and my boyfriend's Burger looked amazing. He said it tasted great. My daughter had the macaroni and cheese with tomatoes and spinach. It wasn't your traditional cheesy mac and cheese, but she ate the whole thing. read more

Came here with my nephew and my brother. It was my nephew's suggestion to come to the burger bar. And then he went and ordered mac & cheese. Which was a great thing, because it was awesome! And their soup of the day was a kale potato which totally rocked. I had the green chili and I could eat about a ton of it, it was so good. My brother had the Panzanella salad with grilled chicken and the only flaw is that he said it needed a little bit more vinaigrette. Great selection of draft beer and wine. Wonderful service! Stopped in for lunch on our way through town, and we weren't disappointed. Good selection of beers on tap and more if you don't see what you like. The burgers were cooked medium-rare as requested, which doesn't always happen in restaurants. Both were great and so were the fries. My only complaint was the house sauce for the fries. We were lucky enough to happen upon Backcountry Burger on opening night, and had to give it a try (and score "first to review"). They don't have any signage out front yet, and we accidentally walked right past it before doubling back to find #125. For reference, they're directly across the street from The Lark hotel. The menu looks good, as do the prices. The burgers are all offered a la carte, so one can add any sides (like fries or a salad) as desired. Monica took care of us, and clearly it wasn't her first night, as she was a total professional, and took excellent care of us. I love trying new places on opening night, and I have to say we were impressed. Everything went very smoothly, with zero hiccups. The beer menu is extensive and features local and not-so-local craft breweries. The dining room is spacious, well lit, accessible, and comfortable. We tried the Super Seven salad, the Backcountry burger, the spicy Wildfire burger, and the Dione bison burger, as well as mac n cheese for one kiddo, and a "Unicorn" pb&j for the other. I appreciate the creative naming for the kids pb&j and grilled cheese. The Super Seven salad was especially great, dressed perfectly, and all the produce was nice and fresh, and everything went well together. They declined a request to cook the burger medium-rare, but confirmed that they're all cooked to the chef's "medium", and they didn't disappoint, the burgers were cooked just right, with a good char, but still nice and pink in the middle. Some things that could be improved: The Wildfire burger could have been much spicier and less salty, but it was still quite tasty. The fries weren't as crispy as I would have liked, but we understand that perfect fries take practice. Meanwhile, $2 for a small side of fries feels very reasonable, and they came out nice and hot. The Unicorn sandwich has a clever name, but doesn't have much else unicorn-oriented. It could have been more clever with a unicorn cookie cutter, rainbow colors, or maybe some clever knife-work to add a horn. It was also dusted with powdered sugar, which is a little sweeter than we'd usually offer our kiddo at dinner time, but she certainly had no complaints. We had a great experience on opening night and I'm happy to get them started on the right foot with a solid 5-stars and a wish for the best of luck and great success. read more

The owners are great people, who care about the supply chain for their food, take care of their staff - and it shows! Good ingredients enable good food, and good people make for great service. I've eaten here quite a few times, and ervice has always been good, whether 2 of us, family with children, or office lunch with 10 people. Flew into Bozeman MT and was looking for a fast burger so we could get on the road. This place had several good ratings so I thought I would verify. We were seated and served immediately but of course we were the only ones eating. The Drinks were served promptly and I had to get water because Coke products were served. The burger was served in under 10 minutes which is my standard for normal service. Burger had a good taste in fact a bit of a crunch. Nothing that knocked my socks off but certainly a good quick burger. The host was very helpful and I would certainly bump it up a half if I could. read more

Ordered two burgers and the cheese curd appetizer to go. Not impressed with size of any of the food, especially since there were no fries that come with it. Here is the cheese curd appetizer, not even a handful. When we returned to get what we paid for, we got another order this size and they stated they are preportioned. Not worth the price. The burgers (Backcountry and Calamity Jane) were nothing to write home about. $5.50 upswell for Yellowstone Grass-fed beef was overpriced as I actually raise gf beef and know how to cook it. These burgers were small, overcooked, dry and just sad. Same can be said for the chicken sandwich. Haystack onion rings were okay. Fries okay. Really gone downhill since we last ate there (~5 hrs ago). read more
