Was excited to try this place after reading the reviews....ummmmm.....no! The only thing we really liked was the onion ring appetizer but that could have been due to the fact that we were all starving. Slow inattentive service....decent atmosphere. 2 of us ordered Medium rare burgers: 1 arrived well done, 1 arrived so rare it might have still been mooing. Over priced for what it turned out to be...root chips were like eating mini slabs of ouldipped in mayo. We won't be back with so many other options available in Bozeman. My man left his credit card and when we picked it up they asked about our experience. This is my favorite burger place in Bozeman. It has something for everyone including my vegan friend! She loves the beyond meat burger with vegan cheese. She claims it the best burger she has had. My kids love the Mac and cheese and burgers. Great place to come after a hike or skiing. read more

Visiting Bozeman for a couple of days. I tried this spot downtown and loved it. As a 10 yr vegan I ordered the vegan impossible burger and it was amaaazing. I also ordered a local IPA which was excellent. The service was fast, thoughtful, and professional, and the decor is great. There's a bar in the back with a beautiful skull on the wall. This was my first time trying Bison. It was really good, but nothing too special just tasted like leaner beef. Something in this burger which I believe was called Marinas was a bit salty. Couldn't figure out what is was. The nice thing about this place was that you can substitute the meat in any burger. Some choices are black bean patty, bison, or reg beef. First off everything had so much flavor! The wildfire burger was delicious especially with the added bacon. My wife tried the Caribbean jerk burger with mango salsa which was also very tasty. In my quest for eating only grass fed beef / buffalo, I found Backcountry. This is a cool little place in the middle of Bozeman and I really was glad to have gone out and not just tried to order from here. Today was a long travel day that involved just a couple hard boiled eggs, so I was happy to be able to overdo it a little here. Great service from everyone and they are definitely all masked up and socially distanced. My buffalo burger was delicious and they did it right, placing it between some big butter crunch lettuce for me. Cheese curds and the rosemary root chips were the perfect completion to my Maria Buffalo burger. I know I'll be back for business and I'll be back here for sure. read more

Wow oh wow. This was one of the best burgers I've had. The bun was buttery and only so slightly toasted. The meat was perfectly seasoned. The lettuce, tomato and onion had the freshest snap. And that special sauce tasted truly amazing. I ordered a side of fries and the garlic aioli sauce was addicting. House made ketchup too. I wish the fries came with the burger but...what are ya gonna do? The service was great, bathrooms very clean. I went during COVID and everyone seemed to be paying attention to all hygiene best practices, like wearing masks, spacing tables apart, and not crowding the restaurant. I have ordered bison burgers at other restaurants and none have ever been able to keep the patty juicy due to its leanness. Backcountry was able to make a perfect bison burger. It even looked like it came from a photo shoot. Fries were perfect. And a good thing my wife only ordered a half salad because that thing was massive. All of the veggies in that salad were fresh. This was the first place we stopped after landing in Bozeman from Texas! This is a super nice little establishment down town! The parking is a little hectic so be prepared to have to walk (if you can't get close). The food was amazing! We all ordered the bison burger and a small fry and it did not disappoint! I've been here twice over the past couple of years. The first time my wife and I came for dinner after a day of skiing at Bridger Bowl. I remembering being very hungry and the food here hit the spot. The beer was good as well and I was amused to see that the Kombucha trend had made it to Bozeman. The second time we came we weren't very hungry and just wanted a beer and a snack. It felt like the bartender became a bit cold when he realized we weren't ordering entrees. I think we split an order of hush puppies along with a couple of beers. Got the: Backcountry burger - loved it. Bacon mac n cheese - i loved it, my dad said it was average and didn't like the bacon that much. Garlic and parmesan fries - the flavor is the sauce which is super super strong and concentrated but really good Marias Burger - my dad had never had bison before but said it was pretty good! We had Faolan as our waitress and she was incredibly sweet, helpful, and talkative when we asked questions about the menu and the area.
