Burger buns were very stale, burgers were hockey pucks, lettuce was soaked in grease. Fries were soggy and cold. Wings were rubbery and undercooked. Even the Dr Pepper tasted nasty, like dirt. I would have given 4 or maybe 5 stars if they had not burned the bun and over cooked the burger. I ordered medium and got well done. My traveling companion had a similar problem and her bun was even more burned. I am from out of state and my never get back this way so they won't have a chance to win my business back. My boyfriend and I were driving back from Flagstaff, staying in Pine, and we were craving pizza. We wouldn't make it back in time for anything to still be open in Pine, so we drove to Payson and ordered a pizza to-go. Mind you, we had a 20 min drive back to our house in Pine, and the pizza was STILL amazing after that. We were starving so we didn't even heat it up. We ordered the meat pizza -- initially I thought the chorizo would be a little weird, but boy was I wrong. The toppings were plentiful. We got the jalapeño ranch on the side and I thought it was such a great addition to the pizza. It was close to their closing time, so the restaurant was empty but everything was very clean, the restrooms were spotless. Ok, it's been a year since I've been here. Last time the service was a nightmare as you can read below. I figured I would give them another shot since they've had time to get things straight. Guess I was expecting too much but NOPE. I walk in, and the sign says please wait to be seated. Plenty of tables open in the dining room and bar area. I stand there for 10 minutes, not a hostess or waitress comes up to me. Finally the waitress in the bar walks by and says "we'll be with you in a minute". Nobody comes to seat me, and the waitress starts taking an order in the bar. 8 minutes later, I'm out the door. I will never try this place ever again. I went to my go to place (Buffalo Bar and Grill) where everyone there is awesome. If I could give Backwoods a no star rating I would, and even that would be too much! read more

Well I was spun back in time when I stopped at the "BACKWOODS" grill in Payson Arizona, (a ma and pa place). WORST service ever! It's sad bc the food was pretty darn good but I won't go back because of the service. The Pro golfer at chaparral recommended this place but I sure won't!! Decided to try something new when passing through Payson. The service here was great, very friendly staff. There are two sections, one feels more bar like and the other family friendly. We started with fried pickles which were good, crispy with a good flavor and ranch to dip. The burgers, however, were both over done, dry and fell very flat. We asked for them to be cooked medium but well done is all they knew and we didn't have the time to send them back. The bun had a decent flavor but it didn't make up for the rest. The server was respectful, however I was absolutely disgusted in the amount of hair in our food! There were hair in two different orders of wings and my sandwich. The manager justified the wing hair as "feathers", but the hair was curled and baked into the wing sauce. As for my sandwich, a few bites in and similar hair was found. Very disappointed in this place. When we first moved to Payson in February, this restaurant was recommended to us by our realtor we sat at the bar ordered wings and pizza and it was pretty good. Didn't see a smile once. I ordered a tea which was good, my husband ordered a beer. We waited about 10 minutes before waitress came back and said she'd check on the beer. When she finally brought it back we ordered wings with celery. The wings came out pretty quickly but with no celery. They were just okay not really breaded as we got the boneless ones. Wanted 2 different flavors which you have to order the dozen to get split flavors. I don't see why you can't get the half in split when they add the sauces after..once our wings were done our celery finally came out to which our waitress told us they had to cut some up...which should have been cut up as our wings were cooking... my husband then orders us pretzels and the dip trio. They both came out pretty quickly however the pretzels were mediocre at best kinda over cooked and came with queso dip instead of beer cheese although the waitress told us it was beer dip..it was the same queso that was in the dip trio. Speaking of the dip trio the guacamole was alright, I didn't even try the salsa, and the queso dip like with the pretzels wasn't even warm and was already turning to solid. Once taking a couple bites of the chips I found them to be super stale. My husband told the waitress once she finally came back and she rudely said I can take those off the bill for you but I'll have to take them back...(obviously we weren't gonna touch them anyways) in between all this my husband wanted another beer but with our waitress paying us NO MIND he had to go up to the bar to order his next drink. Once our bill was ready our waitress did a drop off with not a smile or thank you or anything just kinda threw our bill on the table. We were delighted with our choice. The eats are exquisite. The entire property is spick-and-span. The most impressive quality is the Customer Service. Our Server, Zack, IS Marvelous!!!
