Good BBQ, not Great, but really good. Had the pulled pork brisket special with Mac and cheese and Brunswick Stew...never had Brunswick stew before, so 5 stars since I am a virgin. Pork was above average but I have had better (as in Smoque & the Pork Shop on Chicago, IL) and the brisket was great as well, but nothing over the top, good sides and 1 of 3 good sauces. Got the BBQ Pork plate with fried okra and fries. Can't beat the generous portions and value for $7. The sauce goes well with the pork.

This was everything I expected and more on flavor. The atmosphere is very family friendly and the food was authentic NC barbecue.

My Husband and I were on business in Durham and had heard this was the place to eat lunch. Well.....It was not. I almost walked back out just from the looks of the place but decided to get a plate to go. The restaurant needs a good, good scrub down, paint, new tables and new window treatments and just general maintenance altogether. The window treatments look like they have been there since the 80's and never taken down and washed and there were flies buzzing all over the restaurant. Overall the food was just OK and nothing to write home about....The hushpuppies were rubbery and the mac & cheese was kind of bland. I am only giving one star because although the food is excellent, I will not return because the customer service was unbearably rude. The owner (or manager I suspect) was extremely rude in speaking to my sister and I. I felt embarrassed for him, because people around us looked at him questionably when he yelled at us. He used expressions like, "no, you aren't listening..." and "didn't I tell you to stay in line" and then spoke in a loud tone and at a slow pace as if I am incompetent. I felt myself becoming angry, however I wanted to maintain my dignity so I held my tongue. I was absolutely disgusted with his behavior and bad manners. Pretty good barbecue. Crazy setting. It gets PACKED at lunchtime. If you order fish, be prepared for a wait, as they fry it to order. The sides are good, but the hush puppies could use some serious improvement. And if you're fat, (unlike me) there's limited seating for you. You might just need to go sit in the car & eat. read more

For the price, this place is great. It is north carolina bbq at it's best. I ate bbq chicken, brunswick stew, hush puppies and green beans. All I can say is WOW. That bbq is the best I've had in a long time. Not over sauced but super smoky and beautifully melt in the mouth. I came here for the reputation! I had the ribs and my boyfriend had the smoked brisket. Delicious and big portion! It was enough for two meals! My boyfriend had the sweet potato as a side. It was a whole sweet potato! But super sweet! Even my boyfriend who likes dessert and donuts said it was too sweet. The food may worth 5 stars. The reason I gave it 3 stars is they kept my boyfriends waiting to order and me waiting for him while they served people coming for take-out. I ordered first and they already put my food in the container waiting to check out. However, when it was my boyfriend's turn, they had a batch of fired chicken ready and kept serving chicken to them and couple of people coming for takeout. Maybe those people ordered by phone earlier? Anyway, we waited several minutes to check out. When we finally paid and were ready to eat, my food, especially the ribs were not even close to warm. Woah, this place is good. I had the pork, ribs, brisket with mac n cheese, corn, and hushpuppies. Pork - great. Ribs - great. Mac n cheese - REALLY GREAT, probably the best I've ever had. Corn and hushpuppies were good as well. The brisket - eh...it's ok. I'm more of a Texas brisket fan and they cook it differently. I still prefer Texas brisket over NC brisket, but overall, this place is great. The people that run the place are really sweet as well. They gave us a brief tour of the smoker out back, which smelled great! I'm on the line between 4 and 5 stars due to the brisket, but I don't want to lower their rating so I'll go with 5 stars. read more

This place is awesome! Growing up with Texas BBQ (tomato-based), I'm normally not a fan of the Carolina-style vinegar based BBQ but the BBQ pork here is AMAZING! The hush puppies are to-die-for! I believe I agree with what everyone wrote recently. I was in the area last year and at 7:00 PM there were closed because they ran out of food. This time we got there early, 6:00 PM and they had everything with the exception of collard greens. They would be ready in 15 minutes. Anyway, YELP was spot on. My wife ordered the pulled pork with two sides for $4.99. What a deal. I ordered the pulled pork with ribs and two sides. Too much food for me, but I wanted leftovers for later. The working man special is everything and for a great price. My only complaint was the bun. The bun takes away from the quality of a good sandwich. Beef Brisket is out of this world. Haven't been to a lot of authentic bbq places so I'm no expert, but I thought this place was incredible.

Had the ribs, mac n cheese and collard greens. Ribs were awesome, the collard greens were just as good. I wish I could say the same for the mac n cheese. I've had better. I'll start with my favorite- the Catfish Plate! All the sides are tasty - collard greens were some of the best I've had. Mac & cheese is worth it. Ribs had great flavor!
