Good food and service and fun atmosphere- great place to watch a sporting event with friends.

I was a loyal Sandbar customer for Sunday football for almost 4 years every Sunday when it closed I was so disappointed, but was told not to worry because I knew an improved new restaurant called the Backyard was coming. So I was invited by several employees to Grand open the new Backyard in Scottsdale, which was beautiful and fun and amazing service and great food and I was so excited about the Gilbert location opening. I typically bring about 10 people every Sunday with me and we spend a lot of money But when it comes to showing Football, they do not have their shit together The problem is with the general manager, Kellie she has attitude toward customers and pretty much arresting bitch face all the time. She's always frustrated and does not know how to how to speak to customers. Last week I reserved a table table 45. I got there at 9:30 30 minutes before my reservation and she'd give them my table away to somebody else. She was even rude about it didn't really even care. And this morning we got there 945 and we tried to reserve a table for 1 PM for eight people, but they said they weren't gonna allow anybody to make reservations. Can you make a reservation for eight people that will typically spend around $500? Then of course at 1:25 the biggest game of the week comes on 49ers and Chiefs, but they want to play the sound of the Carolina game the worst game and team in football for the day. This just shows that they know nothing about sports. Nothing about football or their customer or their environment everybody in the place complaining . I went to the DJ and ask him to change the sound please to the 49er game. He said it's up to the manager. . I thought wow now I gotta go talk to this lady as I asked her to change the sound she said two things it's up to the DJ and it would take a complete reset of the whole system to change the sound Well, unless I get a new manager here, I'm never coming back and I've already talked to everybody. I know that comes here every Sunday and we will all choose a different location until they get somebody that understands customer service their customers and Sports the thing is as they have amazing food, the places, incredible and what a great vibe to have such a shitty manager running the place . read more

I'll start by saying we've only been once, and I'd probably rate this place a 4.5 since they haven't worked out all the opening kinks yet, but I'm rounding up because I don't think the people giving one star for being turned away for dress code or the guy who gave one star simply because the chicken wings did not meet his standards are being fair. This place is a huge improvement over Sandbar! They've stepped up the food and the atmosphere. We would never have gone back to Sandbar, but were impressed with Backyard Gilbert and will go back. I'm glad they are enforcing a dress code as it will probably keep the pace safer than it was before. Sandbar had some issues and I think this place is more in line with what the residents of Gilbert want. An outdoor patio vibe that is indoors and allows dogs is perfect for our town! We went on a Saturday, the Ohio State game was on and we didn't have a reservation, so we had a 40 min wait, which we thought was reasonable. We were able to get a drink and an appetizer at the bar while we waited. The bartender was really nice. Our server was also friendly and helpful. Food service was a little slow, but they were busy and just opened, so I think it was completely within reason. I'm so tired of people dragging businesses through the mud over slight inconveniences or because they didn't follow the business' rules. I'm glad those types of people won't go back because the normal people don't want you party poopers there anyway! :) If the owner sees this, you're on the right track! read more

Food and atmosphere were great! Lots of large TVs to catch the best views of the game! Loved this place! We were invited to a watch party the restaurant hosts each week. When we arrived we let them know the number in our party and they sat us with the group. The manager never came to our table or talked to us after going back and forth with the staff about where we were sitting. He/she (not sure, they never addressed us directly) had the server move our teen kids to a partially open bench table to share with other people. She moved them with all their appetizers meals and drinks so they could seat a new walk-in table. Ironically there was no wait and many other open tables in the restaurant. There were no signs indicating the table was not for us. The host even sat our menus and silverware on both tables. So instead of the manager just coming to talk to us we played telephone with the server and manager who never showed up to our table. I couldn't believe their lack of customer service or common courtesy to address an issue face to face. We were new to the group, there with friends, and watching the game so I didn't raise a fit. My family alone spent well over $600 on food and drinks at that event with the teen kids spending over $250 on their experience. Shocked we were treated that way and that the manager didn't have the know with all to properly address the situation. We were made to feel they didn't want us there. You may have a different experience if you go. it's a cool spot but the manager lacks customer service skills and tact. read more

Not only was I ignored for 15 minutes at the bar.. could be my Afro. Then I was charged $40 for 2 drinks.

Horrible service, waitresses don't check in at all, no utensils, nothing for over 30 minutes.

I went in on a Saturday decent size place. Was interested in watching sports and a nice drink. Beer is normal price these days. Didn't try the food nothing looked appealing. Stayed for college football and multiple games were playing. I asked one of the bartenders if he minded switching the tv I was in front of to the MLB playoffs since 90 percent of the tvs in the whole bar had basically had the same two games playing and he told me ok but since the bar is considered a Iowa Hawkeyes bar if a fan wants to turn the TV they take precedence over what you're watching. I think that's weird considering it's a sports bar and I'm a paying customer as well. Be warned if you're looking for a particular game and it's on during Hawkeyes you probably won't get to watch it. read more

Loud, definitely for younger crowd in my opinion. Could not believe the prices especially for what they gave you. We had $18 sticky ribs, 1/2 fat, not great but was presented nicely. Could not believe the $19 fish sandwich with 1 piece of small fish. Overcooked onion rings and dry slaw. The quality of fish was good but just not enough to enjoy. Drinks not cheap either. I believe companies should make a profit but based on their servings they are making a killing on food. It's really a shame ownership thinks that there menu and prices are deserving. It's just a matter of time before patronage drops if they don't change. One thing they did get right is personnel. Everyone we dealt with were very nice. read more

Our family went out to dinner Saturday night and had the worst experience. The server got my children's drinks wrong which was no big deal. She took our order and didn't write anything down and got my entire food order wrong. Our server was rarely around, so I just started eating because I was starving. She finally came around and she brought the side salad I ordered with vinaigrette on the side and then when I asked if the salad already had dressing she said "well yeah that's how it comes" and I said but I ordered a salad with dressing on the side! Anyways she ended up taking my food off the bill but a manager NEVER came to talk to us which I found strange. Worst experience. I'm super bummed, we were excited for a new restaurant in the neighborhood, but we won't be back. I put in a complaint on their website and never heard back. Apparently this place doesn't care about giving crappy service. I wouldn't waste my time here, go to Zipps instead. read more

I gave one star because 0 was not an option. Absolutely the worst food I've ever had, especially for the price. How do you f***k up a salad? Took us about 10 minutes to get seated because the hostess didn't even acknowledge us and couldn't figure out what was going on. I don't know how it is possible to mess up French fries and salad. I was paying for my meal / drink put it in the "card thing" 5 seconds later "I can't find your card" this place had to be racist or she has to be racist to African American people because I seen her whisper to another employee of hers something and he looked at me then looked away any African Americans that want to come here DON'T... this was my second time coming to this place and then this happens this is unbelievable heck the cameras I bet you, you see her taking my card and acting like she didn't know what happened to it read more

Went to Backyard this week and it was great. The atmosphere is very cool, I had the philly cheesesteak and my wife had the chicken sandwich and both were very good. Trista was our bartender and she was excellent, so attentive and sweet. Would recommend Backyard for sure. read more

Chipotle Street Tacos, DO NOT ORDER. They are flavorless and no way to pick up to eat. Meal was served on a platter lined with paper that was soggy and made impossible to cut to eat without eating paper. HOWEVER, brought all this to server's attention, Talia, she made it RIGHT! Went in for the Super Bowl and was not disappointed with the experience. The massive tvs make it great for sports viewing. The bartenders were very friendly and accommodating. Looking forward to some more wings and march madness on the screens. read more

Very Expensive small portions but the portion size ended up being a blessing since the food was overcooked and had absolutely no seasoning (except the fries) I bet the cook puts raisins in potato salad.service was subpar also had to ask for a soda and water refill. Per dollar spent on what you get by far one of the most expensive places to eat in Gilbert and not worth it by any means. Might be a great place to hang to watch the game, but to go and have Lunch or Dinner this place should not even be on your list. read more

I was honestly terrified when my date asked me to meet here. I am such a socially anxious introvert with a severe dog fear, but when I explained all this to backyards managers and staff they were so accommodating to my needs! I was placed on the opposite side of the dog section which ended up being in a more secluded area from other people too. As we walked in, we were seated right away but it took over 20 minutes for our drinks to come (which was water) with only 4 tables taken up. Then after another 30 minutes the food came, almost all of it burned/overcooked. The only good thing about this place is the football games playing. We went yesterday (Sunday) to watch football with a group of 7. We met friends there so they already had a table. But when we arrived there was a line. It took a few minutes for the waitress to acknowledge us once we sat down. We ordered their "special" bucket of beers - mix and match 5 for $35.00. However a single bottle of beer was $7, so really no "special" there. Then we asked to mix in 2 Michelob Ultras and were told we can't do that because inventory was low and you had to go to the bar to order. This really makes no sense. So we can go to the bar and order 2 but you can't put them in the bucket??? Interesting. The Bloody Mary special was $11.00 instead of $13.00 not bad however the glasses were tall and skinny. Seemed they were downsizing the glass to make up for the discount. And just a normal drink $14.00, a little pricey. Oh and I forgot to mention that my friend ordered a mixed drink, we had to flag down the waitress after about 15 minutes to ask where her drink was, to which she replied "I'll have to go and check, last time I checked I was waiting for them to make it" Now the food... nothing special but just as expensive. Food was really bad and expensive. Tried a variety of food and all of it was not good. Nacho chips and Flatbread were stale and no flavor to food, just salty. Very bland and pricey. They are banking on their drinks and tvs. Also service was not good. Food was dropped off at the table without silverware and it took a while to flag someone down. Employee morale seemed like it could be improved. Too many choices of where to spend your money. Spent about $100 for nachos, artichoke dip, a dessert and 2 weak drinks and a soda.
