Such a cute coffee shop! We stopped in to study on a Thursday late afternoon and found ourselves very comfy. Lots of orders so you may have to wait in line. Not a lot of indoor seating so get ready to wait or find seats around the area, maybe in front of the nearby mall, almost just across the street. Drinks were great but the strawberry smoothie was too sweet and doesn't taste natural? Download the app for rewards! They have a good reward system. This is the only location within metro DMV area. Very nice coffee shop, although a bit small in my opinion! I had the 100 percent Kona coffee, which I thought was better than the average drip coffee. I personally wish they would list the ingredients in the drinks, like the slush-looking drinks for example, because they look like they "might" have artificial dyes (not sure if they do, so do not quote me on that), and I personally avoid artificial dyes. Other than that, everything else was good! I might come back in to try a different drink and maybe a pastry. read more

Stopped in for a quick coffee. I was interested to get Kona coffee as I have never had it before. It took about 5 minutes for them to prepare it, which was fine and they warned me about the timing. The coffee was hot and obviously fresh, but it had some grit to it as I got closer to the bottom. As I mentioned, I have never had Kona coffee prior to this, so I don't have another instance to compare it to... that said, it was nothing to write home about. Not really sure the hype behind Kona coffee. Is it just the exclusivity of it? Also, you could purchase a bag of Kona for $69, you heard that right... $69! That's pricey. A small cup is $5.50, so that's not a bad price point to try. The place was well kept and clean. They only had three tables, so seating was hard to come by. Thank goodness Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii showed up when it did because the DMV area is in dire need of some Hawaiian flair. Their coffees are tasty, and the bonus is that the ice is also made out of coffee so it doesn't get watered down. I think if they were to ever change to regular ice, people would be outraged! It's definitely a game changer. There's not too much seating inside the place but the ambiance leaves for a chill vibe. The servers are friendly and take the time to answer any questions you may have about the coffee. I'm obsessed with their Monkey Latte- the subtle banana flavor is amazing. Also like their Original badass mocha (I think that's what it's called) which has both white and dark chocolate flavors. I also like my coffee sweet, so the iced coffee here is perfect for me. The coffee is good, but we drove over 40 minutes to try this coffee spot due to the highly rated reviews and I don't think we'd easily do that again. We got one iced coffee and one hot coffee as well as a donut. It was good, but again, nothing mind-blowing. I do like how they use coffee ice cubes so it doesn't water down your iced coffee. Also, the store is incredibly small, so it will be somewhat difficult to sit and have your coffee. We went on Saturday morning and was barely able to snag a seat as someone was leaving. Why would I drive 15 minutes for an iced latte when there's a Starbucks less than 5 minutes from my front door? Mmmmm because this is some Bad Ass coffee!!!! Best coffee I've had in the DMV! Not a bit of bitterness. They don't make their flavored drinks overly sweet. And their ice cubes are made from coffee so they don't rip you off when they ice your coffee!!!! My daughter just moved in above Bad Ass Coffee and I only got a cold brew, so this is a very limited review, however... I try coffee spots just about everywhere I travel to and the cold brew at Bad Ass (I just the name!) is the best I have EVER tasted. Smooth... The staff were very diligent and super helpful when I asked some questions about terms I didn't know. I also was going to take some coffee beans home to a friend of mine and got a real education on types and pricing - like almost $70 a pound! Wowza! Super casual place. Parking is rather difficult, but you can park in the wegmans garage if you go there too. They fulfilled my order very quickly - I got the turtle kick which was a frozen coffee drink, it was really good! The sandwich however was really bad. You can see it in the picture for yourself. The bread was hard, & the ham was dry. Not a tasty bite, especially for $8.. I'd rather get a McDouble at McDonald's tbh. Finally got to try this cute coffee shop since it opened in Alexandria. Upon walking in, I was greeted by the staff. I loved the all of the décor and merchandise that they had for sale. It was all tropical themed. The menu was vast with tons of drinks and food. For my drink I chose a Large Iced Monkey Mocha (total of 4 shots) and a strawberry rhubarb muffin. Absolutely loved every bit of this place. I was just walking around and I wanted to get some coffee so I decided to go here. I walked in and it seems as if they were having problems with the power. So the card machine was down, and they proceeded to offer my coffee( CARAMEL WAVE) and food " on the house ". Truly professional people but I went to atm and paid anyway. I've been eyeing an opportunity to come check out Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii for a while now and finally made it on a saturday morning after running some errands in the area. This location is situated in a relatively new shopping center. At around 10AM on a saturday, this place was PACKED. For two, we ordered their cold brew and shared a spam and egg sandwich and the strawberry rhubarb muffin (based on yelp's recommendation). The sandwich was delicious, and my only regret is that we didn't order one each. Meanwhile, the strawberry rhubarb had a delicious yogurt filling on the inside that made it that much better to eat. Overall, a solid coffee shop with a unique and welcoming vibe! Also be warned: the coffee here is on the slightly stronger side. read more

I wanted to like this place. I am a coffee lover, and love all coffee things from hawaii. But my experience was disappointing. I was excited to try some Hawaiian coffee, but when I asked the staff for some options, they seemed limited. They do offer a 100 percent kona brew, and a 10 percent kona blend for ice coffees, but that was about the extent of their hawaiian coffees. They do offer the Koffee Kooler, which I do see often in hawaii, but when I asked, they said it was not made with hawaiin beans. I ended up not ordering anything since what I wanted was not really offered. The ambiance is great and it feels inviting. There is limited seating since the place is small, but there are a few seatings. There are plenty of donkey related décor, which is an homage to donkeys that helped when coffee was grown in Hawaii. I think the place is a great gift to bring more Hawaiian inspired business in the area. And I think that's what the take of the visit was, that it is Hawaiian inspired, rather than a Hawaiian Coffee shop like in the islands. They offer Hawaiian inspired merch, but I think the only thing Hawaiian was the coffee bags they offer. The staff was friendly and inviting, and I am happy they were able to answer my questions about ingredients and sourcing. I feel like I will be back with a different expectation and look forward to trying out the various coffee drinks they have to offer. read more

When I walked into the shop I was greeted with a joyful, "Aloha!" Much to my amazement I noticed every customer entering the shop was welcomed with the same greeting (I spent two hours working at one of the tables). The young ladies running the counter were friendly and engaging. They seemed to remember the names of repeating customers. Although the shop was very busy the first hour I was there, it did not seem to hinder the ladies cheerfulness or customer service. The owners have harmoniously blended the Aloha Spirit, coffee, and the hardworking donkeys of Kona Hawaii to create Badass Coffee of Hawaii. The colors and the decor of the shop are fun. There is quite a bit of Badass Coffee swag for purchase. Something that caught my eye were small bags of their coffee. I always want to purchase coffee wherever I go, but I don't want to carry around a pound. They have smartly created small bags of 1.75 oz of coffee for purchase. Brilliant! I ordered my usual cortado. The milk to espresso ratio was perfect, but it was missing the crème on top and the velvety texture. However, it was a decent cortado. I have made it a habit of ordering a second coffee on my trips now, but I like to have the baristas make me their favorite espresso drink or the shops specially drink. The ladies chose a Monkey Mocha Iced Latte for me. Honestly, I was a little apprehensive about having a banana flavor with my coffee, but it turned out nicely. The banana flavor is subtle. The only not so positive remark I would give is the shop is quite small. There are three tables with 10 chairs and I can't imagine the owners fitting anymore, but I could be wrong. However, the Wi-Fi was sufficient for my son to complete his online courses. Overall, the shop is fun and inviting.
