We recently walked to this bagel place from our hotel and we were excited to get some fresh bagels. When we got there I waited outside and had the kids go in and get some bagels. My son came out with a smoothie and after trying it he said he didn't like it. I got mad at my son for buying a smoothie @$5. I then said that i would drink it and he was right. It was terrible. We spend $30.00 for bagels and coffees and I went in and was greeted by two young girls working the counter. They were not the most pleasant. I asked them if I could get something else and that the smoothie wasn't any good. They said sorry but it's not our problem it was made correctly!!! It tasted like medicine and was the worst smoothie we have ever had and we frequent many coffee shops. The bagels were okay but the eggs were warm and not that great. Too bad. read more

It is my first try at bagel basket and it will be my LAST. A cashier was so unpleasant - thanks for ruining my morning. I'm an employee of the York hospital and I asked for a discount (this place has employee discount for York hospital). She only gave a discount for my bagel and coffee when I ordered for my self and my husband! It doesn't matter how good foods you have , because of your (I don't know your name) bad service, bagel basket lost a customer and I will spread this information to my co- workers. Overall I had a nice experience. First time I waited only a minute for 2 perfect everything bagels and a coffee(which wasn't too good). Second time we had a problem, waiting 20 minutes in line and then waiting 8 minutes for just a plain bagel with cream cheese. They had 3 workers it seems like they need more. They have an amazing selection of cream cheeses and bagels, so they've definitely got something for everyone, whether it's sweet, savory, or an egg sandwich. They've also got a huge assortment of iced and hot coffee flavors. We had chicken wraps and the chicken tasted like it was microwaved with some sauce tossed on it and had absolutely no flavor plus it was terribly dry. The tomatoes were not something I would ever put on a sandwich or wrap-they were totally mushy. Way too much tortilla and just almost couldn't get them down. The tea was okay. Had a bacon, egg and cheese on a gluten free bagel. They don't make the gluten free bagels which is completely understandable but the breakfast sandwich wasn't anything special. The regular bagels are special made so they're definitely the main draw here. Inside is a little tight. Small dining area in a historic building so it definitely didn't have a lot of room. The bagel basket in York, ME is a great locals breakfast and lunch establishment. It's locally owned and operated by a wonderful family. The Basket is nestled in an old New England farm house and stepping inside brings you back to a different era. The bagels are homemade and although not NY quality, they are very good! They only take cash so come prepared, ATM on site. read more

I'm sure their coffee and bagel sandwiches are great. However, they NEED to spring for a credit machine instead of passing the buck to their customers via an ATM machine inside the store. About 9 months before my daughter's wedding, I contacted Bagel Basket about a post-wedding brunch I was throwing. A month before I recontacted them to finalize the arrangements and then a week before the event they contacted me to say they couldn't do it as they didn't have enough help that weekend but recommended some other caterers in the area. It was disappointing since I saw good reviews from them but throwing that monkey wrench into plans a week before a wedding was not appreciated. First time here! I ordered the lox bits and cream cheese. The lox were a little salty, but good. The bagel and cream cheese were real good but a bit messy to eat. We stopped in mid afternoon. The sandwiches were fresh, mediocre in flavor, but large in size. They dont accept credit or debit....really?, but have an on site ATM so you get the fee and they don't. The man on the counter,(owner so we were told), offered some of the poorest customer service skills I have seen in quite awhile, offering no pleasantries or courtesy for our patronage. As were leaving, just at 2:00, their closing time, he literally slammed the front door behind us. Locals we spoke with acknowledged this as his common demeanor and apologized on his behalf. There is a woman working the counter often, who I believe is actually one of the owners, who is very unfriendly. Cheap and satisfying breakfast. I had a wildberry bagel with raisin walnut cream cheese and my friend had a cream cheese carrot cake muffin. Both were very enjoyable. Stop here, get a cup of coffee (of which they have several) and a bagel with cream cheese then eat outside or walk to the nearby library pond. read more

The girls that work there are very snobby and rude. They have absolutely no people skills and I don't believe they even know what a smile is. This is a very popular place and there are only 3 parking spots?? Oh! A few spots in the back, but you can't get to them if the three spots are taking up too much room ;) They also seem to never have any bagels because they "ran out" When there is a popular type of bagel, it should just be common sense to make more of those. read more

I noticed another review had been filtered and was curious to see if their experience was the same....I'm afraid it was. The bagels are OK at best and only if bought and eaten right away. We have tried a few times bringing a few home, only to discover they were very dry. Getting your order correct is a whole other story.I never mind leaving a tip but you can you please try and act like you care what my order is. I finally gave up and decided Dunkin Donuts is not only cheaper, customer service is better and quite frankly so are the bagels. Drive an extra 10 minutes and you'll find a Panera bread right in Newington and as the other reviewer stated even Hannaford's were fresher. read more

Cute spot! We were visiting Maine for first time this past weekend and we made a few stops here as it was right up road from where we stayed. Delicious coffee and muffins! I was very disappointed when after placing my order I was informed that they didn't accept credit cards anymore, as they used to. They pointed me to an ATM machine installed in the premises. I didn't have my ATM card with me, only a credit card, and it was a great inconvenience to drive to a nearby bank to get cash to pay for my order, which was already being processed. I hadn't been home in 4 years, and last week I finally made it to the Bagel Basket! It was just as I remembered- great bagels and coffee. I appreciate how the staff always wraps my sesame bagel separately, one for the cream cheese side and one for the butter side. Prices are great and so are the portions. My one issue is that it is cash only, otherwise I would give the Bagel Basket 5-stars. There is an ATM, but it has a fee. There is so much charm here, I highly recommend checking it out! read more

This place is awesome! I've been going there for ever. There staff is very friendly and there food is exceptional. They only accept cash but they do offer an ATM. For those complaining about not taking credit cards you don't realize that it cost a ton of money to accept cards. A small business like this can't be spending that much money of card fees.
