Despite the cutesy name, inside it looks a little more upscale than the various bagel places all around southern Brooklyn. Unfortunately it doesn't fit the bill. Or maybe too much. I ordered a BEC on a bagel. It came out to more than $8 including tax. That's at least 25% more than the usual price I get from my favorite place. It's impossible to quantify if something tastes 25% better, but I don't remember being impressed. It wasn't bad, but in the end I felt I overpaid. The other issue is that once I got my order, the cashier gave me the bagel in the foil, and a napkin. No brown bag. After holding it for about 15 seconds, my hands got hot. Didn't realize it until after I left. But, c'Mon. How do you not put the bagel in a bag? The cashier herself wasn't very friendly - seemed either shy or just not happy at all to be there. While I was visiting my BIL in Brooklyn we went several mornings to pick up bagels as there are zero bagel shops where I live. We were doubly excited to find out they have a couple GF varieties for my celiac husband which he had with tofu cream cheese. I had the perfect toasted egg bagel with butter. And when it was time to go home, we brought back 4 1/2 dozen as the perfect N.Y. souvenir. The person who took my phone order was extremely pleasant and the people at the shop were friendly. I was told there is one person there (owner?) who is a real terror, so glad I did not have my experienced impacted by her. Saturday morning - Nice temperature out (it was 7am in June), sunny AF; We head out for a walk. Our original destination was a different restaurant (boca del cielo... Oooooffffffah... NO) but we kept walking and bumped into Bagel Schmagel for the first time. We saw a few barstools inside this clean, recently-swept establishment, so we planted our asses and took a look-see at their menu. The man couldn't find anything offered on the menu that appealed to him, so he placed an order at the counter "off-the-cuff". For Mister PickyPants (); an Everything Bagel with Cream Cheese, Lox and Red Onion topped with Capers. He ordered a large, black Iced Coffee with that, and grabbed a Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice from the refrigerator case. I ordered a sandwich offered on their paper menu called the "Shamlagler Sandwich", which included Scrambled Eggs, Potato and Mozzarella Cheese on Italian bread. I modified that mildly by requesting Scrambled Egg WHITES and specified emphasis on the Salt & Pepper. I ordered a large Hot Coffee with that because the only time I would NOT order a large Coffee with "that" (whatever "that" may be...,) is the day the sun doesn't rise and the earth stopped rotating. The Bagel Sandwich that my man concocted had beautifully layered ingredients. I must admit... Once he unwrapped his breakfast from the deli paper, it did LOOK lovely. His take on it: The bagel itself, was delicious; even better than BagelBoy (*gasp!!*). The cream cheese/lox went beautifully together, as the lox were super FRESH. Slices of red onion were fresh as well, and sliced perfectly; not too thick, not too thin. Capers were the perfect toppings for this "Masterpiece" of a sandwich. Next time, he wants tomato, as well. All in all? 10 out of 10. The mildly modified "Shamlagler Sandwich" that I ordered (egg whites rather than whole eggs, emphasis on the salt and pepper): The Italian bread itself, was fresh with a crisp crust and soft innards, which paired perfectly with the creamy, heavily flavored potato cubes. The potatoes LOOKED like deteriorated, roasted potato squares, but tasted like they had been slowly cooked in a realm of rich, slightly-spicy, abundantly flavorful merriment, then encapsulated within a crisply-crusted 'disguise' for fresh, fluffy Italian bread. They snuck some scrambled egg whites onto the sandwich, then coated all this heaven with *just* the right amount of melted mozzarella cheese. My only complaint; Coulda used a pinch more S&P. ‍ The coffee (both hot and cold versions) were very good. The Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice was very good, for fresh juice (no sugar added). I removed one from it's rightfully earned Perfect Rating for one reason: COST Two sandwiches (both more "complexed" than the standard BECSPK) + two large black coffees + one juice = $39 (then another $5 went into the tip jar... so $44 including that). The 8oz juice alone? $5. Oy... Definitely found our new bagel spot (TOTALLY better than BagelBoy's overly-sweet bagels...) but orders in the future will be juice-less and coffee-less. Despite appearing on the news, this is a Plain Jane bagel shop. They only prepare one batch of bagels per day. ONE! That means once they run out, they run out. That is a big no-no for any bagelry, and is an automatic write-off in my book. My only positives are that the bagel is not terrible. It is enough chew and some crunch to get you by, but the bagel gets hard not too long after purchase. It made me wonder if I made the right call in ordering a dozen for the week. When I got there, I went to the counter ordered, paid for my food and waited. When I had 10 minutes left till my lunch hour was over, I went back to my counter, asked how much longer till my food and they responded "oh. We didn't put in the order!" No excuse. No I am sorry. (I forgot to post my draft from November 2021. Now there's an update included from January 2022): I was a little confused when stepping in to the store to place my order. There's a giant red sign that says "Order here" & has an arrow pointing down. Easy enough. However, there's a tall counter directly behind the sign & a tall muffin stand on the shorter counter in front of the sign. It didn't appear to be an easy spot to place an order, especially since everyone working was shorter than the muffin stand. (I'm not saying anything bad about them- just a fact.) After a couple minutes, someone peaked around the muffin stand to take my order. I ordered an egg, cheese & tomato sandwich, salt & pepper, butter both sides on a toasted everything bagel. I used the bathroom & about a minute after, my sandwich was done. I was in & out in less than 10 minutes! They put 2 large clumps of butter on either side of the sandwich, instead of spreading it out. When you put cold, real butter in large clumps on something, even if it's warm, it tends not to melt or blend well. I like extra butter- But, I like it melted... There are 2 tables & 2 counters to eat at inside & a couple tables outside. Update (1/18/22) I ordered the Turkey Club Wrap, asking to substitute the bacon with Turkey bacon. I was surprised when the sandwich jumped from $7.99 to just under $12. I asked the cashier why there was such a big discrepancy & she said " because the Turkey bacon is $2.50 extra & the wrap is 75 cents extra. " I asked, "why is the Turkey bacon $2.50 more when I'm substituting the bacon that was included with the sandwich initially. If you add bacon to a sandwich, it's $2.25, so I should only have to pay 25 cents more." She said she "pushed the buttons on the screen & that's what came up." That may be so, cuz the computerized register is only looking at you adding something. It's not taking into account that it's a substitution. That's where you, as a human, could have overwritten the price to reflect the difference between the 2! Another part of the inflation in price was a 75 cents charge for the wrap. If you look in the Classic Sandwich section above the Wrap section, it does show that wraps are 50 cents extra. However, I ordered from the Wrap section, Not the sandwich section. Therefore, I should have been charged the price shown next to what I ordered. There should Not be an additional charge for a wrap if I'm ordering a wrap from the Wrap section! Again, this is where a human is supposed to see something is wrong & adjust it. Especially when you see your customer is not happy about the differences! I believe the person making the sandwich was also explaining it's just a substitute when she went to change the ticket, but by that time I already paid, and she still wasn't understanding. I will say that she remained calm & polite throughout my irritation. I still took a star away because the menu prices are not updated & the cashier was not capable of understanding how to make a substitution or a price adjustment. The wrap was good, even without the Turkey bacon- but it would have been better with it. The outdoors eating area is gone, but the inside remains available. The restroom is clean, although it also houses the mop & bucket or some other type of cleaning equipment, depending on when you go in. read more

The bagel sandwiches here are ridiculously expensive. I didn't ever expect to pay over $10 for a breakfast sandwich but I had no choice since it was already made when they charged me for it. I don't understand charging labor on a bagel ($.50 to toast and $.20 to scoop) but apparently this is something people do. I don't scoop my bagels, but I can't understand why they would charge you to toast a bagel at a bagel store. They do sell baked goods on site and candy, as well as other drinks. They are said to make the butter on the premises too. The bagel store is small and has limited seating inside the shop and some tables outside that you can use as well. There are no bathrooms for you to use if it's necessary. The cashier is very nice and super efficient but again I don't think any bagel sandwich is worth $10. For an eat-in establishment--which it clearly is with places to seat inside and out--the bathroom access is now denied to customers. Can't be necessarily reasoned that it's due to Covid restrictions as no one on staff wears a mask. This is my first and probably only review of any business. I wish there was a zero star option. Never in my life have I been screamed at by an employee, let alone an OWNER of a business. I called to order one bagel and an iced coffee and it had not come an hour and a half later. We called to check on the order and the owner immediately raised his voice asking what he was supposed to do when there were 7 orders happening at once. After screaming "what am I supposed to do?!!!!" multiple times, I asked if he would at least be slightly apologetic about the wait time. He then started screaming louder stating that I am no longer welcome to ever order from them again. This is the second time that this has happened to me at this place. I gave them another chance to see if they educated themselves regarding service dogs and the ADA. I went there today, 6/18/22, w/my service dog, and the cashier right away, very arrogant and rude, told me that dogs are not allowed in the store. I told her that my dog is a service dog, then she told me to show her proof. I told her that she was not allowed to ask for evidence if my dog was a service dog. I decided not to buy anything, and she sarcastically told me to have a good day. Educate yourselves about different types of disabilities. Disabilities don't need to be obvious, and people don't have to carry a sign saying I have a disability, and this is my service dog.
