The guys behind the counter who make the orders are great; they are polite, friendly, and always double check your order if they forgot or didn't hear you. This review really breaks my heart because we love the people there and in the past this has been our favorite bagel store, but after giving them398 chances to get there you know what together WE R DONE!!! The fact that they can not put a system in with names is beyond ludicrous after five years in business, it's almost comical to watch when someone brings an order to the front somehow praying this time we will get it right. I ordered on eat 24 and was waiting for over 2 hours I called both eat 24 and the restaurant to ask where my food was and both said they couldn't reach the driver and the food should be here quickly. I have been to Bagel Schmagel at least two or three times a week since they have opened. The food is consistently good, the staff is friendly and the coffee is excellent! I've lived in Bay Ridge for five years now and I really truly used to love this place. Things have been on a downward spiral over the past six months with orders being delivered either incorrectly or taking an inordinate amount of time (90 minutes for a few sandwiches - really?!) Yesterday things hit rock bottom however. My wife is five months pregnant and has been experiencing some strange and sudden food cravings lately. Yesterday morning she was really in the mood for a salt bagel with cream cheese so I took the opportunity to order that, as well as some egg salad and a sandwich for myself. About twenty minutes after my order I received a phone call from Bagel Schmagel telling me they were out of the salt bagel - I originally asked them to just put it on a plain bagel but then checked with my wife (she was on the other phone at the time) and decided that since that was the lynchpin of what she was craving we would cancel the order and I would take my lazy bum out for a walk to one of the five million other bagel shops in the neighborhood. Not even 30 seconds after getting off the phone I called up to cancel my order. The girl on the phone seemed a little confused but when I explained to her why she seemed happy to oblige. About two minutes later I received yet another phone call from Bagel Schmagel from an overly aggressive woman who refused to identify herself and whom I can only assume was the manager on duty at the time. She questioned my desire to cancel the order, claimed I was being "unreasonable," and every time I tried to get a word in to explain she would just get louder and speak over me - almost to the point of yelling. Needless to say I immediately called Seamless up after getting off the phone with this monster as I did not trust her to properly issue me a refund. Luckily they were a lot more helpful. As someone who has been in the restaurant business for 15 years I have never in my life experienced such an outrageous fail in customer service. Normally, if you are out of an advertised product you, especially as a manager, should take every step possible to make sure your customer is taken care of. At the very least you should apologize for not having the desired item and see what you can do to fix the situation. The absolute last thing one should do is call the customer back on the phone (after I was fully content that everything was resolved) to yell at them and call them unreasonable. You will never again receive my business Bagel Schmagel. And because of your terrible customer service I took a nice stroll up to Bagel Boy and not only did they have what I was looking for - they were incredibly pleasant to deal with. Woke up craving a bagel and I thought of this place since I walked by it so many times. I got an everything bagel with plain cream cheese. The amount of cream cheese was perfect and the bagel was really good! Service was fast, I was out of there in less than 10 minutes. I like the location too since it's close to several coffee shops. It took me a long time to come back to his place after consistently spending at least 40 a week here when they charged me for a cup of ice. But coming back to get an overpriced bagel with barely a spoonful of scallion cream cheese was enough for me to say I am never coming back. They are so overpriced and the service is awful. Bagel boy is much much better. I pass this place daily and just say to myself, how can locals continue to go here? This is really a one-star review with a star added because I almost feel bad for this place. It's really sad that this place sucks, because it's the closest bagel place to my house and has potential. The food is average, I have eaten from here several times and have gotten an everything bagel with cream cheese and an egg and cheese on a roll here before. But while the food is decent, it's overpriced for the neighborhood and the service is horrible. Phone service is okay, but beware if you go in and try to order something in person. My BF was not acknowledged for a long time, while they were not even doing anything urgent. The only positive reviews seem to come from non-natives/hipsters who are charmed by the "vintage awning" or "ambiance" of the place. So I guess if you're a hipster this place is for you. My girlfriend has gone to this place several times. Every time she goes, the staff treats her with a snobby attitude and rudeness. Today when we went about 12 pm, the young man at the counter looked her up and down, gave her dirty looks and started taking care of the customer BEHIND her. He simply ignored her until he took care of the hipster-looking girl behind her. I don't know if it's because she is clearly NOT a hipster or because she is visibly gay. Either way, in my understanding all PAYING customers need to be treated with basic respect and courtesy. The staff at the Starbucks on 3rd ave manage to do that every time. Ever since moving to the neighborhood, I've been trying almost every bagel shop along 3rd avenue. So far, this is my least favorite one because the people who work here have no sense of order. Worst of all, the lady at the cash register (I assume is the boss) has some serious hearing problems. I told her I ordered an everything bagel with cream cheese and she kept asking me if it was plain. I said "No." But she proceeded to charge me for something I did not order, which she thought I ordered an extra plain bagel on top of my original order. This place is disgusting. Multiple times they have sent me bagels with rotted and spoiled cream cheese. Several times I've received rotten orange juice. The one time we called them out on it, they insisted we were wrong and refused a refund. I am becoming increasingly disappointed with Bagel Schmagel the more I order from them because they seem practically incapable of getting an order right. Their food is amazing, that's definitely not the issue, the issue is the disorganization of their staff. When I go to order I have to watch to make sure the order is done right and practically every time have to repeat what should be on the bagel or remind them because I watch them forget items. When I order online something is always missing even when they call to make sure they have it right. I am dumbfounded as to how they seem to continuously accomplish this. It's sad to see an establishment built up by a wonderful group of people that I once loved begin to deteriorate to such an extent. I accidentally discovered this place while on my way to the adjacent Starbucks and since then I've been going back once a week. The bagels are fresh and a lot tastier than the other bagel shops around the way. There's a bagel shop literally a block from me, but I'd rather walk or bike the 8 blocks to get a bagel from here instead. So this is the second time I ordered from this place. Let me just start off by saying I like to order from different breakfast places to find what I like best. I ordered the gluten free bagel and an omelette platter. First of all, the woman who answered the phone was extremely rude. Did not seem to care about detail as she almost got my address wrong twice. Second, she took down my order correctly, but failed to deliver the correct order. The food- bland and ill prepared. I really don't like giving bad reviews because I know this hinders future customers, but really, save your money. This meal was by no means worth $15 and especially after getting the wrong order. I bought a Groupon for this establishment. I had waited to use it until the last day before it expired. Unfortunately menu pages.com said it was open until 10pm, but this is not the case. The following morning I went in, expecting to only use the amount I paid for the Groupon, but they honored the original deal. This type of customer service is more important to me than anything else is in a business. This alone warrants 5 stars in my opinion. I brought the bagels to work and everyone raved about how good they were, and still warm as well.
