They have ample outdoor seating under an awning on the side and in the front. The interior has more of a modern vibe but also feels just enough like a traditional breakfast place. I saw a balance of older and younger customers. But the best part is their food and coffee. I placed my order online, and the menu is almost as copious as Urth Cafe and Porto's Bakery. You will find something good for breakfast no matter what you're in the mood for. I ordered the Bacon, Cheddar, and & Potato Bowl. They use scallions as their potatoes, not generic fried ones. The light roast coffee I drank was vanilla beaned flavored, and I thought it was excellent. They also have a French Roast as their dark roast. I didn't look what their medium roast flavor was. I used to work at this location when it first opened 30 years ago. I was a sophomore at MVHS and this was my first job. It started a lifelong love for bagels and brew and amazingly 30 years later this place still tastes the same. Anytime I travel from Ventura to San Diego. I always make sure to stop here for a sunrise sandwich, a mexicali philly, and a tuna melt even though it's too much food simply because it's such a throwback to my high school years. The people behind the counter look a little different, the outside of the store looks a little different, but amazingly somehow, the food tastes the same. The bagels still have that same unbeatable chewiness, and to this day, it is still the only gourmet bagel shop that I've ever been to that's authentically worth coming back to. So many other "bagel shops" try to pass themselves off with microwave eggs, or any other number of atrocious attempts at real food. If there's any criticism I could possibly make about bagels and brew is that the menu is so incredibly long and seems to grow year by year and if you get unlucky enough to go to walk in during peak hours, you will definitely find yourself standing around waiting for your food to be ready and it could take a little while. I can't help but wonder if the original owners are still around and they must be because the food tastes the same every single menu item. This place really is a gem. read more

A very solid option for a quick pick me up when you need a coffee in the morning. Their normal brewed coffee is what you'd expect but I'm a huge fan of the vanilla nut light roast. This place is a pretty decent size but it can get busy during the morning rush, but I've never had to wait too long to be helped. They also do online ordering as well. It also has an outdoor seating area if you wanna take in the sunrise while having a coffee My one only gripe is the cups aren't the best. Every time I've gotten coffee the lids seem to expand so when you're trying to drink coffee it drips a lot. Once it cools down it usually stops but then you can't really enjoy a nice hot cup of coffee. This has happened the last 3 times I've been here. Overall I do recommend this place. Didn't get a bagel but did get a brew. "Brew" meaning coffee rather than beer. Stopped in for a late lunch. You order at the counter and pick up any coffee drinks as they call out your name but the food is delivered to your table. Their sandwich list is extensive so it took me a few minutes to decide. Although I was standing quite a distance from the counter, obviously reading over the various selections, the woman at the register seemed quite impatient. I finally decided on a roast beef with horseradish sandwich plus a hot caramel latte. I went to find a seat and noticed the tables and floor were on the disgustingly dirty side. I grabbed some napkins to wipe off a table so I could sit. While I was eating, someone came out to sweep and mop the floor. For me it's a Catch-22; I despise an unclean eatery but equally despise having someone sweep and mop around me while I'm eating. My sandwich was presented on grilled parmesan bread and, aside from an abundance of roast beef, contained the horseradish, lettuce, tomato and sliced onions...lots & lots of sliced red onions (I pulled out half of them). It came with a choice of side and I chose a green salad which had...more onions. But also carrots & mushrooms. The sandwich was pretty good but the grilled bread was very greasy and fell apart too easily, making for a messy meal, and the horseradish had flavor but no heat (the latter was actually fine by me but is a "heads up" for anyone looking to order and expecting their eyes to water). My latte was served at lawsuit temperature. Without a doubt the hottest coffee drink I've ever been served. It seemed like an eternity before it was drinkable and then it was not worth the wait. Not sure why this place has such low ratings. I've been going for a couple years now and while I don't like their coffee. Their bikes are the closet you can get to a new york style bagel in OC. Also they have really great pricing compared to everywhere else and ample parking. With over 30 orders they've never messed up once eating in or takeout. Also I had a surgery one time and couldn't get out of my car, they went out of their way to walk my order out to my car curbside for me no questions asked. We had a couple of excellent breakfast bagels. Price is $9 or so each. They're big. We split sometimes. There is a huge variety of bagels and sandwiches too. Weekday morning at 730- fast service. I think they're pretty popular and don't try hard at the counter to be nice if you're unfamiliar with the menu. But good coffee and bagels.
