I'm a long time patron of Bagheri's and it saddens me to see some of the negative reviews from other users. Bagheri's is not your typical run of the mill corporate restaurant. Sid (the owner), and the rest of his crew serve up a beautiful, carefully crafted, homemade meal in copious portions. The eggplant is among the most meticulously prepared I've ever tasted, with a tender texture and an explosion of flavor. The Dama Bianca sauce is absolutely phenomenal with the spinach ravioli or the cheese tortellini. Part of the unique flair of Bagheri's is the staff. All employees at the restaurant demand to be treated with respect, so if you are the type of person that finds enjoyment in belittling your waiter or waitress over the 'inconvenience' of waiting for 60 seconds for your water refill, you will be called out on your pettiness. If you decide to make a fool out of yourself and escalate the situation, you may be ejected from the restaurant. If you respect the staff, you will enjoy some of the finest cuisine in the DFW metroplex, provided by one of the loveliest families in Denton. Respect is a two-way street. read more

Wow, my first time at Bagheri's and we had outstanding food and service tonight! We walked in early and were lucky enough to get a table without a reservation. Sid was our server and was very personable and full of humor. By the end of our meal, we had an ongoing conversation with Sid and some new friends from the table next to us. Hannah was in the kitchen keeping everything on track and rolling out in a timely manner. I've never been a cannoli fan, but theirs is excellent! I'm just going to be real. We were in town to take our college son to dinner and this family-run restaurant was exactly what I was looking for this evening. In an older strip center, but don't judge this book by its cover. You need to eat at Bagheri's if you judge your experience by the quality the food (excellent), value (the proportions are ridiculously large - leftovers for everyone), and the company you keep (almost 30 years at this location, the owner and staff were good folks)!! BYOB and make reservations (they require them, regardless of the crowd). Don't be in a hurry - if you have someplace to be in a rush then shove-down some chain restaurant food. read more

First of all, the food here is absolutely spectacular! Usually I build up my reviews, but with Bagheri's, I felt like this is the first thing that needs to be said. When driving up, you look at the building in the shopping strip and it's hard to believe that a place this good could exist in this area. On my most recent trip, I came with my dad since he wanted Italian. I could tell by the look on his face that he was unsure. He ordered the chicken cacciatori and I ordered the chicken parmesan. The moment he took a bite, you could hear this audible "MMMM!". I always make that noise when eating here, but it's fun to hear someone else make it too. You really can't go wrong when eating here. Don't trust hours stated as they decide when they close. We called and made a reservation for 830pm and guy said that was fine. We showed up at 8:23pm and door had close sign. We tried door anyway and walked in and the girl said they were closed. We told her we made a reservation and she had no clue and would have to check with the kitchen guy. Yelp is the best!!! I was wanting some place new for my mom's birthday and saw the reviews here. We made a reservation for 7 and found the place (kind of East on Univ). The owner held the front doors for my mom (it was her 87th bday). His daughter waited on us and had a great table right up front. The menu is not large, but great food, lobster ravioli that my wife and niece couldn't stop eating. Wonderful bread, excellent service, parmesan on the table, red pepper flakes, and no corkage fee (we brought our own wine). When I looked over the menu, I didn't see angel hair pasta and was going to settle on the chicken alfredo, but the sauce would have been too heavy. I asked our waitress if they could do angel hair with grilled chicken, olive oil and garlic and she said "Sure!". While we were all visiting, the owner (who was cooking) asked me if all I wanted was the chicken and pasta, no veggies? I said mushrooms would be great! I got my meal (big portion by the way) and he had not only put in the mushrooms, but also red bell pepper. It was great! When we were about to leave, my wife asked if she could get a small container of alfredo sauce (she doesn't really like olive oil and I had leftovers) and the owner cooked up a large container for her AND sent along a whole loaf of bread. The ONLY place I'll ever order Chicken Parmesan I've eaten in some really fine Italian restaurants in the "Little Italy's" in Boston, New York, Washington DC, San Francisco and far too many others to remember. Add to this several dining opportunities I've enjoyed in Italy itself and my devotion to Sid's Chicken Parm becomes evident. I will not order Chicken Parm anywhere but Bagheri's. Is it the sauce? Yes (Yes, again.) Is it the way the chicken is prepared? Yes. So, I've concluded that it's the entire package. My wife always gets the spinach lasagna. Over the course of the past dozen and more years I've lost track of the times we've been to Bagheri's but I am sure of one thing. We will continue going as long as there is breath in our bodies. Regarding the previous comments about the Hooka Lounge and the gay bar, yes, they are both there but do NOT impact the restaurant. Each occupies one end of the building in the strip center and the restaurant is in the center. Very family friendly environment. The owner/operators (appropriately enough, the Bagheri brothers) are hands down the nicest, friendliest and most customer focused restaurant folks I believe I have ever come across. The elder Bagheri brother has two lovely daughters who are frequently there as servers. They are both as gracious as their father and uncle. I would give it 5 stars, but there is NO kids menu. None. Zip. Nada. My daughters noodles with Alfredo was 12.95 and so bland she would not eat it. It was bland. I tasted it. On the upside- my lobster ravioli was excellent! The bread was homemade and wonderful, the staff was friendly and helpful and they took her Alfredo back to the kitchen and added some marinara to it to make it more flavorful and we had them wrap it up to go. Bagheri's is the Italian place you hope for in your neighborhood: run by a family, customers known by name, and a meal prepared with genuine affection and pride. Start with the mussels in an unforgettable garlic butter broth. The dama bianca sauce is wonderful on tortellini or for dipping the homemade bread. Best eggplant parm in sight; save half for sandwiches the next day. This isn't fast food. I don't have enough good things to say about this place. I've been going there since I was a freshman (ten years...) at UNT, and they have never given me anything less than a WONDERFUL experience. A typical visit: 1. Walk in and you will immediately smell the wonderful food that either the owner Sid or his co-owner Sid will be preparing. 2. Get a wonderful meal at a decent price. 3. Sit and talk for three hours with the owners or other regulars that come in. 4. Leave happy Bagheris has a cult following here in Denton for a good reason. The food is excellent. I recommend the chicken marsala, or for heavier fare, anything with the dama bianca sauce. You can also ask him to surprise you. The surprise will cost you around $30, but it'll be the best meal you've ever had. They don't serve alcohol, but are more than happy to have the waitstaff accommodate you with glassware and corkage should you bring your own. Another great thing about this place is that the owner truly cares about his community. He treats everyone like family. There were definitely a couple of times in college where I would go in with a group of friends and not have much money, and the owner would see that I wasn't eating, and he would slip me some bread and a side of meat marinara to tide me over. He is like a crazy Grandpa. Also, he always tells you that you are great and that he loves you. This place is a must if you are ever in Denton! I went to this place because of the reviews here on Yelp. Well they truly don't do the restaurant justice. This place is in a small strip mall out of the way. You would not expect this good of a restaurant in this type of location. Now it's not that the place isn't safe, i would have no problem with having my mom go to this place at night. The service was excellent and the waitress was very attentive. I ordered the sausage lasagne and shared a salad for two. Before the salad came out they brought a bread basket that was truly exception. I loved the big slices of crusty bread and the smell was wonderful. Then the salads came out. I thought when it said salad for two would be a shared salad bowl, but no, it was two large individual salads that were very nicely done. The lasagne was also excellent. It was a huge portion of a very nice pasta. I shouldn't have eaten the whole thing, but I did because it was that good. I can whole heartedly recommend this place for dinner. This is our favorite place to carb-up before a day hike, or replenish after one! The portions are huge, and it's not just your average pizza, spaghetti and lasagna joint. They have more authentic Italian dishes with veal, chicken, eggplant, etc. Even the bread that they bring out for free is awesome. Buttery, garlicy bread served with all the parmesan you could want :) The owner also makes a special blend of hot tea...I'm not even a huge hot tea fan but this is amazing. Finding a non-chain pizza joint is difficult but this will be my go-to place. Highlights: -Bagheri (owner/cook) knows his art and is hilarious. -I asked about price and he told me to name my budget...awesome. I think the 18.5" pizza I got should've been $20 but only paid $14. -Pizza was not too saucy and not too dry. -Ordered a bacon, sausage, beef, and pepperoni pizza: incredible sausage and beef. We got to enjoy Bagheri's once last summer. It was delicious. We didn't know that it was BYOB, but the food was stellar. Not really a restaurant for small children, so we waited until last week to go for a date night. We pulled into the parking lot at 5:30 on a Sunday evening. Their sign said OPEN. Remembering about the BYOB, we stopped at Metzler's in the same shopping center to buy wine. 10 minutes later, we pull up Bagheri's and they were closed. My husband got out, saw a staff member rolling silverware and knocked on the window. She cracked open the door to tell him "come back at 7". Other cars pulled up alongside us as we were preparing to leave. They, too, were disappointed that the hours of business were not in keeping with what was posted, and no explanation given. One lady in the other car said Mr. Bagheri doesn't care if anyone is inconvenienced. We went to Giuseppe's instead, but reviews here and elsewhere indicate that there is repeated inconsistency in the hours of business for Bagheri's. We truly hope all is well with the Bagheri family, but are giving it one star because of irregular hours and poor communication with customers. read more

I deducted a star because they no longer serve their gyro plate. Boo! Slabs of lamb and beef served over seasoned rice with grilled vegetables, a block of feta, hummus, pita, and olives on the side... I miss it terribly. Other than that minor complaint, Bagheri's is totally charming. It's a family-run place (the owner is really friendly and is always ready to joke around with you) and while it's nothing fancy, the atmosphere is pretty intimate. They've had the same piano soundtrack on repeat every time I've been there, and the walls are decked with paintings of scenes from the Godfather. The food is pretty great (I'm a big fan of the eggplant Parmesan), and they give you huge slices of bread before your meal. They don't serve alcohol, but you can bring your own wine. (No corking fee!) My boyfriend and I like to get tipsy and have staring contests with Sophia Loren. Forgot your wine? No worries--you can grab some from Metzler's next door. So, I read all of the great reviews and thought, hooray!--an Italian place in Denton with fantastic reviews. When we got there, the place was empty so we got our menus and water immediately. And then the meal steadily went downhill. We each ordered basic spaghetti with marinara, one with meatballs and the other with sausage. $10.95 seems a little expensive but hey, if it's a good plate of pasta, I won't quibble. We also ordered a side Caesar to share ($5.95). After a bit the bread came out. Huge slices of warm toasted bread. Very dry warm toasted bread. There were little butter packets on the table, but we were disappointed that there was no garlic butter. Then the salad came out. The kitchen had thoughtfully put it on two plates since we were sharing, so far so good. But then we tasted the salad. I love Caesar salad and this is the first time I've had one that tasted of... mustard. Yes, you do put Dijon in it, but a good Caesar dressing should vibrate with garlic and parmesan with that elusive undertone of anchovy. Not the mustard. We ate it anyway since we were hungry. Then the pastas came out. Uhm. Yeah. I knew we were in trouble the minute I saw that the noodles were more like spaghettini or capellini and they were swimming in water. The pasta had not been properly drained before being put into the bowl and the excess pasta water was diluting the marinara as we watched. Oh noes. The marinara tasted like generic red sauce--as in generic out of a jar, bland flavored. In my view, you can go one of two ways with marinara: deep, rich, heady with wine and slowly simmered or a bright, fresh tasting sauce full of herbs. This was neither. The meatballs and the sausages did not taste fresh, homemade, or even particularly savory. And an Italian place that uses powdered Parmesan cheese... Feh. Again, we ate it, we were hungry. Did I mention the service sucked? Long waits for water refills, the food, the check. Remember how we got there and no one was there? The people who arrived about 15 minutes after us got their food first. Another couple sat and sat with no water or menus. A family of four came in and again, no menus, no water for ages. They weren't even acknowledged by the wait staff. There was only one waiter who was even passably friendly--and I wouldn't call that friendly, I would call it not grumpy. We had to ask for the check after an interminable wait. Even then, no one came to process the payment and we had to go to the register to pay. Seriously? There were only 5 tables of people including us. I always tip. I did not tip this time I was so pissed off by the time we left. This place gets 2 stars because the food was at least edible. Wow, what a stellar after-meal review, it was edible. For $30+ dollars (and we didn't even get drinks, we had water), we had edible. Definitely won't be back again. Denton Yelpers, you let me down. The food at Bagheri's was great. Ironically, I loved the free bread at the beginning of the meal more than anything. I got the tortellini in the dama bianca sauce which I liked a lot as well. I would probably try something different next time though. They have a lot of options, while not being an overcrowded menu. One thing I thought was kind of strange though is that the seafood options are significantly (around 2x) more expensive than the other options. So unless money's not a factor, I wouldn't come here for seafood dishes. Overall, I really enjoyed the food and left VERY full. The only downside was that they seemed a little bit understaffed that night, which can really suck for both employees and the customers. At one point the server was shouting at the man cooking to get some chicken parmesan out to her table... I've worked in a restaurant and I don't think you should ever yell at the kitchen staff. He was clearly working as fast as he could. I'd rather wait longer for food than have it rushed out anyway. In spite of this, our server was really kind and attentive so not all of the employees were pissed off that night. read more

Don't let the strip mall thing fool you, this is THE BEST Italian food you will have in Texas. Small, cozy atmosphere accompanied by a friendly staff that seem to all be of the same family. Classic stern Italian chef coming to your table to make sure everything is as it should be. As we were driving home from Lewisville, my significant other suggested that we try an Italian restaurant that his lab partner was raving about in his hometown of Denton. We figured it would be the best option since we didn't want something that we could get in OKC. Boy oh boy, were we impressed! The restaurant is off the beaten path in a old looking strip mall between a nail salon and Beauty Parlor bar (think alcohol, not salon). I don't like to judge a book by it's cover, so we walked in and were invited to an empty dining room. Hmm? There was a four top sitting in the room next to the main dining area so we sat down at the opposite corner of the room and were immediately tended to. Love prompt service! I checked out the other reviews and photos and decided to order the dama dipping sauce right off the bat. It was a divine mixture of (I think) alfredo and tomato sauce with melted cheese. I'm normally not a pink pasta sauce type person, but this stuff was really good! I'm also very particular about cheese. I don't normally eat queso or nacho cheese. The cheese used in this sauce was ooey gooey and stringy leading me to believe it was mozzarella! We shared the Chicken Picatta, which was conveniently split into two hefty portioned plates. The chicken was very moist. The sauce had the right balance of acid and sweetness. I was too full to order dessert. Conclusion: Simply put? If you're looking for a fancy cafe Italian joint with loads of atmosphere, you might be disappointed. Come hungry and expect large portions. Skip the Ceasar salad. The dressing tasted a little off to me. The bread and dama sauce is a must order. I can't quite describe how differently wonderful the dip was. It's just something you have to try in order to appreciate. But the bread. Oh the bread was probably the best bread I've ever had out of an Italian restaurant. How does this restaurant stay in business when they do such a poor job of communicating what they are selling? I see pictures of pizza in the reviews, and no pizza as a menu item. I tracked down their Facebook page, which seems to have the most recent menu, and it has things like $80 scallops, $60 filet mignon. How about an explanation? Are these gigantic family portions? What comes with that? It's like they can't be bothered. I have ordered food from them before and it was pretty good, but they are missing out on my business now because they are doing such a terrible job of communicating their menu. There is real lobster in thr lobster ravioli - thoroughly enjoyed! We also had baby clams in pasta with lemon garlic butter sauce which was done perfectly. Enjoyed the family run atmosphere! Everyone raves about the food , and it is good, but no one tells it is a BYOB restaurant. Very old crowd, nothing wrong, but it has to be told. (No alcohol) I started with the bruschetta and it was very fresh & delicious. Then I moved on to the chicken parmigiano. It is a lot of food. Too saucy for my taste. The owner will come out and chat if he is not busy cooking. Very homy place. If you are looking for a high end Italian place. This is not it. But is is very cosy with nice mellow music. This very quickly became our favorite Italian restaurant in the area, and we're from NY/NJ, and extremely picky about our Italian. Everything we've had here has been excellent, and the personal touch is beyond compare. Sid knows everyone who come through the door and comes out from the kitchen to greet every guest and thank them for coming. We came for my birthday and he gave us an entire cappuccino pie for our family. He's been in this location for decades and has built his establishment on fantastic food and a family atmosphere. Don't let the outside fool you. It's in a very small shopping strip that looks old and rundown. We ate here after my sister's masters graduation at TWU Denton. My sister wanted to eat at an Italian restaurant. I am a big Yelper, so I decided to look up Italian places to eat. Denton is a small city, so there were only two choices. Lol. My sister ate at the other one that was listed at her bachelor's graduation last year, so we decided to try this place. Best decision ever! This is one of the best, and most authentic Italian restaurants I've ever been to. The chef even came out to ask if the food was ok and to be careful because the dishes, especially the lasagna, was VERY hot. The servers are great and so friendly. They were happy to have us and accommodated us right away. They congratulated my sister on her graduation. They serve large, sliced bread with butter while you wait for your entrees. I wish the bread was flavored with garlic or the butter was flavored or they used a seasoning dip. I ordered the eggplant parmesan. It's my favorite Italian dish. The portion was huge. The eggplant took up the whole length of the plate and was perfectly cooked. I hate it when the eggplant is still chewy. I could cut it easily with my fork. The marinara it was topped with was amazing. It wasn't too sour and had great flavor. I always substitute the pasta part of the dish with alfredo sauce instead of marina because I like the way the alfredo from the pasta and tanginess of the marinara blend together in one bite. Their alfredo sauce is the best I've tasted. I would recommend this restaurant to those who live in Denton that don't know about it yet and even those who are just visiting their family or children who go to school at TWU or UNT.
