Recently spent some time in New York and was happy with the bagels - non chewy, not tuff, soft, and consistent throughout. I went with the New York New York option, ample meat was between my bagel halves. Very filling and great taste. I opted for the potato salad as my side, it is mustard based. Potato salad is always Russian Roulette for someone that does not like crunchy onions in their food -- this one passed the test. The flavor was there but no big chunks of raw onion were to be crunched while enjoying my meal. (Please never change that) Great friendly service. Refills on fountain sodas and tea available. Woke up and started wanting bagels and heard great things about this from our friend. We came by and were greeted warmly! This place is more of a breakfast/sandwich spot first, before it is a bagel shop so don't come here expecting a TON of bagel varieties. Nevertheless, it was still good for breakfast. I got a salt bagel for my BEC, and my husband got cinnamon raisin for his sausage, egg, and cheese. I also ordered a buttered plain bagel for my son. We didn't wait too long, and they gave my son a sticker that he played with while we waited. The bagels were nice and chewy, and I loved that they didn't skimp out on any of the ingredients. The service was great, and the restaurant itself has some seating if you want to dine in. The staff was friendly and recommended customizing bagels if needed. I ended up getting a bagel with egg and avocado that came close to $10, which I thought was a little steep. The bagel wasn't as filling as I thought. But, I think the bagels are decent. read more

Still looking for a great bagel in STL. Found another good, while they are quick to admit it is not a NY bagel (large, airy, while being chewy with the slightest tooth on the crust) not great bagel. I'm not sure the Lefty's bagel is boiled before baking. Tried an everything bagel and plain. First deduction, both placed on top of each other in the bag. Most shops separate via different bag or tissue wrap the everything bagels from the others. While larger than the place that went out of business in Creve Coeur the everything bagel while generally coated was meh. I will give them another try and maybe get a sandwich but unless they are on your normal route it is not worth the drive. read more

I got the egg Sammy, add bacon and scallion cream cheese, and it ended up being 50 cents cheaper than the BEC (where the options force you to have a slice of cheese on it- some people love that, but I prefer to sub). Maybe my expectations were too high. Was hoping for a GREAT bagel place. Lefty's is good. Ordered a half dozen bagels on a Saturday morning. They were a little hard (I possibly got them too late in the morning so they weren't as fresh) but softened up in the toaster. The bagels are on the smaller side. If you've been to NYC, they bagels are larger and puffier. The pastrami lox was excellent. Highly recommend. Onion bagel was good. I will say that this blows Panera away. Not even close. My daughter found a hair baked into her plain bagel. She was bummed. Will definitely try their Jewish deli stuff in the future. read more

Support Local! I've been looking for a lunch that makes me feel happy and I finally found it! Located about 6min from my office, this gem offers Breakfast and Lunch sandwiches. Today's first visit, I opted for the Turkey Club Med, just as it comes, no changes, plain bagel with a medium toast. Potato Salad as the side. The turkey is stacked!!! (See photo) I was so amazed by how much meat was on the sandwich and it was dressed well with bacon, cheese, mayo, lettuce and tomato. Great flavor in the turkey, not dry. It wasn't for me. Seems to be lots of duplication. Hard to avoid sugars here. But the food looks good if you're not on a restricted diet. It was difficult to get an understanding of my concerns to sink in. I explained the request several times. Generally, if I can clear a variety of three items to order at a restaurant, I'm back often. So happy. We are new to Missouri and I have yet to find a really good Bagel Shop. Well , thank the higher powers that I found Lefty's. The bagels and really good. Like really good. The egg sandwich was delish. The counter person recommended the Garlic and Herb smear , so so so happy. The smear was really good. The store was super cute. Minimal but cute. Open kitchen concept , which I love. So clean as well. Everyone who worked there was beyond friendly as well. I saw, maybe the manager, by the pick up counter, talking to everyone being super friendly. I felt very comfortable there. I'm ecstatic that I found my new breakfast spot. Been a customer of Lefty's for a while now. IMHO the best bagels and pastrami/corned beef in town. But yesterday, I decided to try one of their breakfast sandwiches: The popular Bacon, Egg, and Cheddar Cheese on a Garlic Bagel. WOW !!! Probably the best breakfast sandwich in my memory. They don't cook the real egg till you order it. And the big surprise was the thick-cut bacon. Great tasting sandwich. Full Disclosure: It was early afternoon. After an abysmal early morning breakfast, in which I barely ate anything, followed by a 6.2 mile bike ride, I was starving and craving some juice. I did some googling and discovered this gem of a place tucked away in a strip mall on Olive but located in Chesterfield. Lefty's is known for their New York Style bagels, while also offering salads, sandwiches, pastries, and soup. i walked in and was instantly greeted by the attendant behind the counter. I was surprised at how busy it was but I took that as a good thing! I decided to get the bacon, egg, and cheese on the everything bagel, orange juice, and a chocolate chip cookie. I asked how the egg came prepared and she said scrambled and then asked me my cheese preference, in which I chose cheddar. Since most of the indoor seating was full, I chose to sit at an outside table until it cleared out. After a short wait, they called my name and I went and got my food. My first bite of the sandwich was delectable but a little chewy. The egg was cooked perfectly, the bacon well done like I asked, and the bagel made me think I was in NY! I was pleasantly surprised, but in a good way. The bagel was crisp and was definitely made with the freshest ingredients. It doesn't compare to any bagels I've had in Stl (again, another good thing). The orange juice, although bottled, was some of the purest and best tasting juice I've had. I can tell this place has a lot of regulars based on the friendliness of the staff and the delicious food. Lox of love did not disappoint! Smooth cream cheese, delish smoked salmon, and a fresh everything bagel paired well together. My kids approved of the egg,cheese,bacon bagel. Fresh tasting OJ was a nice touch. The place was super busy, but the employees were constantly moving to ensure quick service. We ordered and received our food in less than five minutes. My coworker really enjoyed her bagel here so we came back the next day. This looks to be a pretty popular spot as both visits, the store was very busy. This time, sold out of many bagels by 8:30am. Since I felt the nova schmear was lacking last time, I kept it simple with a salt bagel, toasted with butter. I made sure it was toasted this time - it was. This bagel was not nearly as tough as the first one, so it seems to be a hit or miss with the doneness. I got some OJ this time and was happy with that choice. I'm always looking for a good bagel place, so I was excited to learn Lefty's is close to our new house! My husband picked up bagels for us for a Saturday morning breakfast. I got a blueberry bagel with blueberry cream cheese. I love blueberries, and the option of having them in the cream cheese vs just plain was great. It was pretty sweet without being over the top. He got a bacon egg and cheese bagel for himself. I tried a bite and it was delicious - this is the perfect order if you want a more hearty meal. I picked up a few bagels and a couple of bagel sandwiches and the bagels were overcooked and the eggs on the sandwiches were not good. They were out of garlic and were super apologetic. It's late. I get it. Grabbed some cream cheese while I was there. Toasted the everything bagel and it was delish. Just perfect taste and texture. The attention to detail is the reason I enjoyed this place so much. I am a stickler for well made, quality ingredients and they definitely met my expectations. I went with the Lox O'love for my meal. The counter staff was very friendly and helpful with the menu. You get choice of bagel, choice to doneness for toasting, type of schemer, and toppings. The bagel had the characteristic snap when bitten in to with a tender inside. The cream cheese was rich and creamy. The lox was well balanced smoky and salty and a perfect firm texture. We also tried the potato latkes which I definitely recommend trying. They are a counter service space with a few tables for dine in. We are looking forward to visiting again soon. read more

For $45 lunch, you just expect more, you know? The place? Charmless, despite the amazing range of deli options, especially fish. Lox & bagels: SUPER skimpy on the lox, bagels almost unchewable, onions too thick. Lemonade made with powder. Worse than the food? Service. Soup "put up" an hour before closing. Two guys yacking right there in our faces, paying customers no never mind. One finally slow-walked our sandwiches then they sat on the counter for five minutes -- yeah, I was miffed by this time and timed it -- and even then I had to ask the girl in front (busy doing something non-customer since there WERE NONE) to actually get them in our hands cuz she, too, paid customers no never mind plus was scowly and humorless. Anybody can have a bad day but ... we'll never know cuz yeah, Lefty's is no longer our kinda place, however close, however local, however much we love lox and bagels. read more

As a couple of others noted, I wish the bagels were a little chewier inside, but overall I'm pretty content. The garlic and herb and nova schmears are stellar- be sure to bring home a couple of containers. Have you tried Lefty's Bagel? Located in Chesterfield (end of Creve Couer area). My friend and I went around 11:00am and they were poppin'! When we walked in, the line was long and almost to the point where we had to stand outside the door. Thankfully, the ordering line goes by quickly. However, depending on what you order, the wait time to get your food will vary. By the time it was our turn to order, there were only 4 flavors left: plain, onion, sesame, and everything bagel. We ordered: 1/2 a dozen bagel with plain shmear Turkey Pastrami sandwich Lox Pastrami on onion bagel OMG! The Lox Pastrami on the onion bagel was so delicious! I'm craving it while writing this review. My friend got the Turkey Pastrami and they are very generous with the amount of meat they put in there. Wholly Moly! They do have some kinks to workout! We got our 1/2 of dozen right away, but our Turkey Pastrami and Lox Pastrami did take awhile. I noticed everyone behind the counter was working hard and trying to get all the bagel "sandwiches" out to their customers, which made it difficult to be upset about the wait. Nobody was slacking! I also did find out that they were very understaffed due to multiple employees calling out! Recommendations: * Just in case some people may be in a hurry, I would ask the customers if the possible long wait is okay for them. * Hire reliable staff (hardest part to do these days) * Once they figure out the more popular sandwiches, recommend preparing them ahead of time, to make it easier. Stopped by a week or so ago to a Sold Out sign on the window around 1:00PM so tried again last Sunday around 11:00ish A few people waiting at tables and a couple people in line gave time to review the menu. Pretty straightforward. The girl at the counter was friendly and efficient. Ordered two bagels, one plain and toasted and one everything with a veggie schmeer. Stepped away to wait and more and more people started coming in. No instructions were given so I just waited for my name to be called. When it was, I weaved my way around people to the front counter to get the bag from there, not sure why it didn't go to the side pick up counter. Walking away, the bag felt light, it was only the plain bagel. Waited while they called a couple other names before getting back in line to ask about the other bagel. Turns out the other bagel just wasn't ready ? Very strange to have 2 generic bagels on the same order be treated like two separate orders and not be told. If it had been the bagel with schmeer out first, I might not have noticed and checked the bag before leaving. Lots of paper waste with it all being packed individually, too The everything Bagel was good, a nice chew. Seasoning was good, a little salty but that is just me. I liked the veggie schmeer. When we came there was an enormous line wrapping around the store. By the time we got to the front there were only one or two bagel types left but they said x,y,z were coming out soon. So we waited and waited and still nothing; ended up getting a bunch of the same ones, which seemed like they were sitting on the shelf for a while. The fresh ones we got were hot and delicious, and the other ones were definitely not as good. Not sure when the perfect time to come is; but getting them fresh out of oven (or whatever they use) definitely makes this place way better read more
