I'm sad the last Richmond area Baker's Crust is closing. It was always a great option for a casual bite. The Neapolitan pizzas were my favorite. The pizza and pint night on Thursday's was the best deal - half off Neapolitan pizzas and $5 draft beers. The dough was light and fluffy and I even ate the crust. Their paninis and house-made parmesan chips were also delicious. Our server, Bridget, was awesome on our last visit. She answered all our questions and was accommodating. Some info - Happy hour is 3-6pm with $4-$7 apps that are only tavern chips, fries and a slider app. They also offer 20% off tap bee and wine (only the 6oz size) and select cocktails. I used to eat here all of the time a couple years ago and I can't remember why I stopped but I stopped in here today while I was at Short Pump Mall. I was a little disappointed. I had the Atlantic Salmon which sounded delicious. Unfortunately it was a tad bland which I don't know how with all of the flavors listed on the menu, pistachio and parmesan topped salmon, artichoke risotto and asparagus. I added pepper (not unusual) and salt (very unusual for me) and that helped a lot. It was a generous serving and I had about a third left over to take home. I enjoyed this with a glass of the house chardonnay out on the patio. At 5:30-6:30pm on a Friday, the patio was quiet with plenty of seating on a moderate day. They forgot to give me the 20% happy hour discount on my wine. I had to ask for that. They also charge a 3.5% transaction fee. Says it's to "offset rising cost" and is added to all checks. Baker's Crust is the perfect option if you want someplace like Panera, but you want better quality and to support local! All of the food is so fresh and delicious and the staff is lovely. I usually get the combo which is half a sandwich and half a salad. I love their wine country salad and the Malibu sandwich! Prices are also reasonable! read more

We are during lunch, so had the options of break fast/brunch (which is what they seem to be know for). I had the Shanghai tuna salad. I wasn't pleased. All Kinda if tastes and heavy in the mandarins and only 5 slices of ahi tuna which by color I knew wasn't fresh. I ate most, didn't complain. My wife had the panini. WASTE OF MONEY! For a place named, "Bakers Crust" I was surely disappointed to find out my Jamaican French Toast was not only burnt , but it wasn't even made from scratch. We stopped by for quick lunch and a little break from shopping. Restaurant is conveniently located in Short Pump Mall. It was a bit after 2pm so late lunch, it wasn't crowded but place was visibly understaffed. Lots of dirty uncleared tables around. We were seated promptly after host cleaned the table for us. Table surface was left sticky and still had crumbs on from previous people that ate there. Our server came quickly, looked more like he was the manager and his service was excellent. I needed a quick and easy dinner so I ordered the Family Dinner Deal for 2-4 people for $30. It includes a wine country salad and two Neapolitan pizzas. For the pizzas you have a choice of 5 pizzas. We had Margherita and prosciutto and arugula. It was my first time ordering and boy was I surprised. It was a lot of food. The pizzas are medium size pizzas and the salad came in a huge bowl with a lot of grapes, strawberries, feta and pecans. Really delicious. I will definitely order this again. We were one of two tables at 2:00 PM. Every table was dirty. It was a 5 minute wait for a table. We had to ask them to reclean the table twice as we had food allergies and it wasn't clean. It was a 45 minute wait for our food. We watched out food under the lights for 15 minutes. We had to ask for it to be served to us. The bathrooms had so much dust and dirt, it was absolutely disgusting. The bathrooms at the barcade across the way were immaculate compared to this. There were five employees standing around at any given time today. You would think they would take pride in their work and place of employment. We were so disappointed and won't be back. I should've walked out the door as soon as I noticed the tables were sticky and they said it's because the varnish is off. I cannot believe the health department lets them get by with this. It is nasty sticky table. The crab and corn soup is delicious. I got the salad with strawberries and grapes. It is served on a plate and almost impossible to get your dressing on it, but the worst thing is the lettuce pieces are huge and the strawberries are too old to serve and not properly tripped. Baker's Crust has upped their game. I had the day off so my daughter and I decided to have lunch and support retailers. I wanted a salad or something healthy so we picked Baker's Crust. We got there at 1 pm and were seated right away. Our server greeted us quickly and explained the COVID online menu. We each ordered an iced tea and took a few minutes to look over the menu. I settled on the grilled shrimp and avocado salad and my daughter got a chicken panini. We started with the arancini and I ordered a glass of white wine. It took a while to get our appetizer and an eternity to get my wine. The arancini was really good. Loved the fresh micro herbs to give it a fresh flavor. The mains showed up a little later and wow, my salad was next level. I could have used more shrimp on it but that's me being greedy. The dressing was light and everything went extremely well together. I will be thinking about this salad for a while. My daughter loved her sandwich and the chips, which are a classic. Love the way they've redesigned the restaurant and opened it up. It has more of a bistro feel which I appreciate. Before this trip to BC, I had taken them off of my list because of a really bad experience, but they've earned a place on my list based on the meal and service. Tory was amazing in the midst of impending ice and snow. Baker's Crust will close early today. Evidently, the weather forecast caused the chef to really not care that much about the food or the presentation of two similar dishes. One came to us with toast and bacon that was not burnt. The other was quite the opposite. The hostess was rude to begin with and most of the patrons were seated near a door. So I was cold. I asked for hot chocolate and they had none. Now that Short Pump has gotten rid of their food court, the eating spots are limited to a few restaurants or Chick fil a. I was running some errands at the mall the other day, so I decided to stop in to eat lunch. I ordered the salmon salad with tea and french onion soup. The soup was fabulous. The cheesy top mixed with the savory broth was a treat. I don't eat this soup often, but when I do I always enjoy it. My salmon salad was just ok. Something about the flavors just didn't wow me. I think that it would have tasted better with a creamier dressing. Service was perfectly fine for dining out during a pandemic. Wow, I was in town from southern NJ, I always enjoy stopping at Short Pump Shoppes/Mall. I didn't want something I could get at home. That brought me to this fine establishment. Got there shortly before 5 pm on a Monday. Rather empty but sort of expected. I was dining alone, that is ok in my book. I ordered from the HH menu, the caprese bruschetta, I ate every last bite! I didn't eat lunch so I was hungry! I asked my server Josh, between the chicken Asiago and the salmon dish. He said you could sub the chicken for salmon! So that is what I did. OMG - my mouth is watering thinking back to it. It was more like orzo than risotto, asparagus as tender, salmon was perfect, the dish was outstanding. It was an up charge of a couple dollars, but well worth it. Try this place out! Service was stellar. My only comment would be - dust the wine bottles near the bathroom. read more

Oh the wind was blowing strong and cold with some welcome snowflakes this morning. Finding that most stores at the Shortpump mall don't open til 10am I had time to kill and hunger to satisfy. Walked in and was greeted and seated promptly. My waitress brought he menu took my beverage order. I had trouble deciding what to have because everything sounded so good. I settled on the traditional breakfast with 2 eggs sunny side up, bacon, hash browns and an English muffin. The restaurant wasn't too busy and everyone seemed to enjoying their meals. Mine arrived in 10 minutes. My eggs were cooked perfectly just the way I ordered them. (I don't like sunny side up eggs that the whites are runny and the yolks barely warmed). The hash brown potatoes were so nice and crispy and plentiful. The two slices of bacon perfect and the muffin nicely toasted. I sopped up all yolks with my English Muffin and my plate was clean. I remember really liking Baker's Crust when I first visited it as a newcomer to Richmond several years ago. This time around. I wasn't as big of a fan. Nothing was really wrong. It's just a "regular" place with "good" food. We were closer to the Carytown location but decided on Short Pump because the reviews were a tad better. The waitress was attentive and took care of us. She looked a bit disheveled but was there when we needed her. We visited for brunch on a Thursday. My son ordered fish tacos and loved them. They didn't knock my socks off (lacking in flavor) but my 10 year old son was happy and ate both. The side of black beans were watery but he liked the flavor of the taco and how much fish was in each (order is 2 tacos). M daughter had the French toast. She only ate a few bites. The bread was thick and dry and there had hardly any flavor. It felt more like sweet-ish bread with syrup on the side. My Mother and I both ordered the Maryland omelette (with crab meat, sun-dried tomatoes, cheese and hollandaise sauce). She was served the wrong omelette first. But they corrected it quickly. The omelette was fine. Nothing great about it - I had to search for the tomatoes - but the few bites with them were really good. The tomatoes added a nice flavor to the crab. The hash browns on the side I'm sure are cooked in a large batch in the morning. They tasted like they had sat around a while. We shared a waffle, served with strawberries and whipped cream. Not bad but I make a better waffle at home. No-one desires a meal that just "wasn't bad." I like that the coffee is served in ceramic mugs that feels like you're home enjoying a cup of joe on the couch. The mimosas are good as well. We had the pineapple and blood orange mimosas. Made with fresh juice - I had a bit of pulp in mine. Yummy. Our dirty plates stayed on the table longer than they should have so the flies started to come (no worries - we were seated on the patio outside). But still, our table was filled with dirty plates too long. As I mentioned, nothing was truly "wrong," Bakers Crust just simply does not serve a memorable meal that leaves you wanting more. It's fine and the prices are decent. But not one to make me do my happy dance. Richmond could use a few more really good breakfast/brunch spots. Know of any hidden gems? Do tell! read more

Between 3 and 4 stars. We came for breakfast on a Sunday around 11am, because my preferred option (Metro Diner) had a 30 min wait. It was perfectly fine overall and no wait. I just can't rate this as high as some other 4 star restaurants, so rounded down. Food was good, nothing special, although we opted for basics: Baker's Breakfast (eggs, bacon, hash browns, toast - $10), coffee ($3.25), chicken and waffles ($12.5) kids pancake with choc chips added ($4). The hash browns are misnamed and are actually breakfast potatoes. Eggs were cooked perfectly. The bacon were flimsy strips. The outside patio could use more shade or umbrellas. I was excited to see the Baker's Crust had some decent happy hour specials, so my friend and I met up here for dinner last week. The restaurant was pretty much deserted, so we didn't have to worry about keeping our distance from others. Everyone was wearing a mask and precautions for safety were taken seriously. The food was pretty underwhelming, especially considering the price. I got the bruschetta as a starter which was way too heavy handed on the balsamic vinegar and skimped on the tomato and mozzarella. I felt like I was eating vinegar toasts. For my entree, I got the chicken shawarma which wasn't great. It was mostly lettuce, so it was more of a salad than a sandwich. It didn't taste bad, but I just wasn't in the mood for a salad. And at $12, that is an expensive plate of romaine considering I only got a handful of chicken. I also ordered the french onion soup and I'm glad I did or else I would have left hungry. The soup was good, but nothing terribly amazing. Overall, my experience was just lukewarm. The food was just okay. The service was just okay. I don't think I'll be back to Baker's Crust unless they seriously up their game. There are so many great places to eat in the Short Pump area that I feel I can get more bang for my buck elsewhere. read more

Very very disappointed. My Turkey avocado sandwich was disgusting. The bread was so stale that it was rubbery. Avocado was barely seen, and Turkey was a little salty. It was just something that I'd make on a fly, when I didn't have time to make actual food. It's definitely not worth $10-something that they were charging for. My boyfriends burger was way too well-done, even though he said he wanted in medium-rare. Why did the server even bother asking? My boyfriend had to ask for barbeque sauce so it covers the awful taste of the burger. We also got mozzarella pizza. Meh. Is it worth $10? No. But it was the best thing out of all the food we got. No, I would NEVER come back here. Terrible service, terrible food, and terrible experience. There's too many good food out there to waste my taste buds in these trash. Me and my sister-in-law stopped in last week to have lunch while visiting Short Pump Town Center. We were seated at a table and waited. About 5 minutes or so later, two other diners were seated at a nearby Booth by the same gentleman who has seated us. He proceeded then ask them for their drink order etc, they got their drinks while me and my sister-in-law sat there waiting to even be acknowledged. We've eaten here four times and every time they have messed up our order or the waiter has been rude, the tables have always been dirty and we've had to ask them to clean them and the food each time was sub par. (If you read other reviews on this place, we're clearly not the only one who's experienced this) The tables are very old and worn and we always have to ask them to be re-cleaned as they are sticky and the seats are dirty. I would not recommend even here until they've done a remodel or a serious management changeover. read more

WOW... spur of the moment craving from my fiancee. We started the day at 7am knocking out housing appointments and around noon she was craving a salad. Her favorite salad is from Baker's Crust so here we are. I have never been but I was told it was an upscale expensive Panera... She wasn't wrong. I was not very hungry because I have been sipping on coffee for the last 4 hours however i was going to get an appetizer so she did not eat alone. However when we got there I saw they have breakfast daily until 2!!! I love breakfast so I was sold! Initially the ham scrambler caught my eye but then so did the omelets. But then the salad/sandwich combo sounded like a good idea too but I went with my gut since I got so excited about having breakfast. Went with the Ham Scrambler with sausage and potatoes. Amazing. Great portion size, very cheesy, great flavor with the maple sausage. The potatoes were cooked perfectly however could have used some seasoning. She got Wine Country Salad with Crab and Corn Chowder. I tried the salad and it too was delicious. Candied pecans, fruit and a raspberry vinaigrette. The soup I passed on because it wasn't my thing. Also our waiter, Matt was amazing.
