A lot of fun here!!! Came on a Tuesday because naturally, Taco Tuesdays! We got a pitcher of the watermelon margarita which was pretty good but a little too much watermelon flavor for me. The salsa has quite the kick to it. There were super expensive (like $65-75) shots on special for $10, so we got 2... and I wouldn't even pay $10 for the shot again. Tequila didn't taste expensive at all, and especially not upwards of $70+. The short rib queso was bomb though! I'd definitely go back just for that. I was most excited for the queso so just ordered one taco - the Baja shrimp - also a pretty solid choice! Bakersfield was a quick trip as a student at Butler. The location is very convenient and the food is amazing. While it is not the restaurant's fault, the first thing I noticed was the tough parking from Mass Ave. with limited spaces, parking for this restaurant is a hassle as you may need to be prepared to walk or get very lucky with a spot. Walking in, the atmosphere of Bakersfield is very lowkey and chill. The dim lighting and barstool setting makes it a nice place to just rewind and layback while you eat some food. I was seated in the basement and I liked the bench type seating as it felt more like a family-style meal eating off of a platter of tacos. The food here is amazing, it is Mexican styled food, with some twists. I had the Baja Shrimp, Carnitas, and the Short Rib tacos. Personally, my favorite was the Baja Shrimp, so if you're thinking of getting it, I would highly recommend. The Carnitas and Short Rib tacos were also great, but the shrimp stuck out to me more. The service here was also phenomenal. I went with a group of students for a class project, and our waitress was super laid back but professional. We wanted to ask her questions about Mass Ave, and what it is like for a company located on the street, and she was very cooperative. She answered all of our questions to the best of her ability, and her service to us was great. Great restaurant if you're looking for some delicious Mexican food. read more

Bakersfield was one of the first places I went when I moved to Indy 4 years ago. Honestly surprised I haven't reviewed it yet because it's so good! They do an excellent job with the street tacos. And I always get the trio for the salsa or short rib queso as a starter. I skip the sides and order more tacos because they are excellent. My favorite thing about Bakersfield though is it's geared for groups. Multiple times I've gone there with 8 plus people and they've brought great service and not been mad that it's a large group. They also will take reservations for larger parties which is great! (See photos from 2023 and 2020 in the review). Last night Brendan was our server and helped us announce to the same group of friends from 2020 that we are having a boy. Came here with friends for a book club meeting. The hostess was very friendly took us to our table immediately. The waiter was great as well. We ordered Chips and Guacamole, and Elotes for appetizers. The Guacamole was the best I've ever had ! The corn was okay. We all order different taco's I had shrimp and short rib which are $4.50 a piece. They were just okay as well. Very small tacos. The highlight is the margarita's they are $13-$15 apiece. So we decided to order a pitcher which was great at the end. For a party of 4 we had 2-3 drinks a piece which came out to $11.25 split between us all. The pitcher was $45. I can eat tacos ALL day EVERYDAY. I liked the restaurant vibe. Somewhat rustic but cool. The servers were SUPER nice. My first time and heard so many wonderful things about this place. This was also my first time having a pineapple margarita. It was 3 of us and they were $12 so we got a pitcher for $45. Drink was 10/10. My food not so tasty. My cauliflower dish was cold and my taco tasted like dirt. I tried to force it down. I'll definitely be back for another drink but will likely get chips and guacamole instead. read more

I got the Baja Shrimp (pic 2), Al Pastor (pic 3), and Huitlacoche (on the left in group pic). Baja Shrimp & Al Pastor were prettty good- the shrimp was flavorful & the meat was tender.But the Huitlacoche was a let down :/ My mouth didn't go to Flavortown while I was eating it. It was quite bland. As an appetizer we got the Short Rib Queso (pic 4) and it was FABULOUS. The short rib and the queso went perfectly together! Highly recommend. Good vibes and I really liked the dim lighting. They opened the windows because it was humid from the rain so the fresh air was nice. I will say that the tacos are not very big and the tortillas are flimsy. I think Bakersfield is overrated‍ Note: the bathrooms have the largest gaps between their doors I've ever seen. First time here and 100% recommend for anyone in the area. We had the waitress, Dahsha, and she was THE BEST- so so nice and was able to give us some great food recommendations. Food came out a little bit late, but it didn't even matter considering how busy it was, how polite Dahsha was, and how amazing it tasted. I ordered the pollo verde, the short rib, empanadas, and chips and guacamole and I absolutely loved everything. They also had great drink choices for people who can't/don't drink; I had a mexican coke and a jarritos. A bonus was that they had high chair booths which probably doesn't matter to most people, but I loved it. Great outdoor seating as well. Will definitely be coming back!! read more

Visiting from NYC food: came here before a rooftop party event for some food. My entire party stuck to the tacos section and watermelon margaritas. Food was decent but nothing out of this world and deffinately on the smaller side of taco portion (i had larger at condado for same price). I ordered the chorizo, pollo Verde and fish taco. Fish taco was the best by far. Do not forget to request the crema and salsa (makes a big difference in flavor but you only get it by request). Salsa Verde was very good and mild. Watermelon margaritas were tasty for flavored margs and a nice size. Price: tacos are about $4 each and drinks are $10 by glass $40 for pitcher. Pretty decent for drinks but for size of taco not worth it. Service: our server was okay. Semi attentive. She took a while to check in when we were not sure about order or asked for something after the fact (sauces/crema). She may have just been busy. Food orders came pretty quickly, but be ware all tacos orders for the table come on one single platter and no utensils are provided. Ambiance: the place was nicely decorated, not a very Mexican vibe more of an upscale vibe but i enjoyed the option of regular seating and high tables with booths. It's a great place for chatty conversation. Tables are kinda close together and close to bar. Definitely a great spot for groups. Love this place! Excellent chips and salsa/queso, tacos, and margs! Love their salsa but the queso is also so good. Tacos are on the smaller side which I like because you get to try variety. Affordable as well. Love the short rib taco!! They have many marg flavors to enjoy. I'm a traditional lime flavor lover but the pineapple and watermelon are also really good. Btw, margs are all on the rocks, not frozen. Service has always been quick for me. Fun environment with an indoor/outdoor vibe. Really fun place to go with friends and hang out! We stppoed here before going to the Ballet at Old National Center. Surprisingly there was not a wait at 6pm on a Friday night! We got seated right away. We ordered chips and salsa first off. Warning: The red salsa was HOT! The green tomatillo was very good. It was light with just a little tang. We also got a pitcher of pineapple margarita to share. It was definitely made fresh-not that premix margarita.. I'm pretty sure it's the best margarita I've ever had. We each ordered a couple of tacos which are small but filled with quality ingredients. The only thing I did not like was the seating/table. They sat 3 of us at a tiny table for 2. There was no place to put our coats or purses. There was one of the tiniest hooks I've ever seen in like nailed to the wall by our table and that is what I used, so what about the other 2 people at yhe table?. It was very cramped and uncomfortable. I would go back for the food and drinks but maybe when the weather is nicer so I won't have a coat and won't bring in a purse. They could easily put up a few more hooks that are a little bigger. read more

The tacos are a la carte and run about $4 per taco. The waitress suggested we order 3 tacos per person, but we ordered 10 (for 2 people) since my husband was really hungry and that the perfect amount for us! We ordered the bistec, fish, and short rib. All were delicious! The bistec is more on the spicy side but we love spicy so it was great! Fish was light and fresh. The short rib was our favorite! I went here a couple weeks ago and have to say I was quite disappointed. My friends and I all ordered different tacos. As a vegetarian they did have a couple tacos on the menu which was nice. However, when we got the tacos, they were so small (literally could eat them in 2 bites). Now there is nothing wrong with a small taco, but each taco cost $4-5 which was absolutely ridiculous. The tacos themselves were average and could have been a lot more flavorful. We also got the margarita pitcher and that was pretty good. The atmosphere itself was nice but was very dim inside. Our server was friendly and helpful in picking which tacos were good. Overall, unless they make the tacos bigger, I would probably try something else. Might be worth checking out some of their other menu items if you do come, just not the tacos. read more

I have been to Bakersfield a few times now. Each time I have gone, I have left very happy! They have excellent margaritas and the drink menu has a good variety to choose from. They offer margarita pitchers as well! I had the queso and pollo verde tacos. The tacos were great, they had a lot of flavor. The quesos texture was a bit odd but was still tasty! I had dined here on New Year's Eve, so it was quite busy. Regardless, service was still great for how busy they were! The ambiance is always great in Bakersfield. Standard taco and margs kinda place. Casual environment with various seating (benches to stools). Our waiter was nice and gave us the rundown of the menu. We got the strawberry rose margarita pitchers (610), they were fine, nothing special, despite it being recommended. The short rib queso (5/10) was room temperature. The short rib was put right in the middle rather than mixed, while the top layer of cheese had a fondue like consistency. Some people might like this style, we thought it was 'okay'. The tacos are light corn shelled soft tacos (corn over flour). The tortillas are on the small side but loaded up. My chicken al pastor taco was very good (7.5/10). Our table thought the pollo verde was dry with good flavor but the Baja shrimp was very good (7.5/10). There were a few others we tried but most fell in that "pretty good" range. We opted for outdoor dining in the alleyway behind the restaurant which is pretty cool. It was a bit breezy outside, but we were shielded from the wind and the sun even found it's way to us. The device was great, and we were soon eating and drinking margaritas. We got a couple of starters and 2 tacos each and this seemed pretty filling for all. Overall this place has good food. However we sat for over 30 min to get a drink even though it definitely wasn't that busy. The tacos were great but we had to go out of our way to ask for silverware, water, and had to ask for our tacos an hour and a half after we were sat. And 2/6 of the tacos weren't what we ordered but there was no point in saying anything. I may go back eventually but I'm not dying to go any time soon over the service. read more
