Overall this place has good food. However we sat for over 30 min to get a drink even though it definitely wasn't that busy. The tacos were great but we had to go out of our way to ask for silverware, water, and had to ask for our tacos an hour and a half after we were sat. The three street tacos were pretty good. We're surprised at the quality as the tacos we tried in Texas just the week before were pretty meh and unforgettable. Even though this is also a tex mex spot, being in Indianapolis doesn't mean it wasn't as good. * Hongos ($3): This was surprisingly pretty flavorful with its more healthy and fresh appeal. This became my fav quickly. Perhaps it was bc of the cheese. :) * Fish ($4): Since the fish was fried, it added a crunch and was more flavorful compared to something baked. * Carnitas ($4): The pork was tender and flavorful. There was def a slight flavor profile going on. The three carnitas taquitos ($10) were crunchy and had a kick of flavor from its sauce. Aside from the freshly baked shells, the taquitos were pretty average. The rolls were pretty sizable, but it could have seriously been thicker. Went to Bakersfield last night for the first time! Went around 4:30pm on a Saturday and only waited about 10 minutes. My friend and I ordered a Orange Hibiscus and Pineapple margarita and they were delicious. We got regular queso to share then she got chicken taquitos and I got a few different tacos to try! I got the Polle Verde, Carnitas, and Papas & Chorizo. I loved them all and I can't wait to go back to try more! I've been coming to Bakersfield for years now and I've never had a bad experience the service has always been fairly decent, but on St. Patrick's day it exceeded both I and my family expectations. This was just a quick pop in before we resumed the night so we had apps my favorite cheese and chorizo, guacamole (top 5 best in the city) and my cousins had fish tacos which are always a hit! I had the classic Bakersfield margarita and my cousins enjoyed the orange hibiscus Margarita. I am sooooo bummed I can't remember our server name because she was the best server I've ever had there! She was such a sweet and pretty girl with curly hair. We sat outside and she's Black with a lighter skin tone. We were discussing Yelp and she told me if she gets a 5 star review she gets $50. Recently, I took a trip to Bakersfield with a group of Butler students for a class project. It was my first time and it will certainly not be my last, despite the parking on Mass Ave. The restaurant itself was very clean and was a nice environment to have an enjoyable lunch. Our waitress was amazing, she explained the menu to us and was very patient with our indecisiveness since there were so many great options. She stopped by multiple times to make sure we had everything we needed and that we enjoyed our food. Since we were there for a class project the we asked our waitress multiple questions and she was more than happy to help which we greatly appreciated. The food was nothing short of the high expectations we had from the other reviews we read. I ordered the short rib, baja shrimp, and pollo rojo tacos. I also shared the chips and queso with my friends. All of the food was a 10/10 and I look forward to trying different tacos next time I go. I also appreciated that they offer vegetarian options that one of our freinds were able to enjoy. Overall, great restaurant with amazing service and food. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to try somewhere new on Mass Ave. It definitely does not fall under the college student budget for an every day lunch but was 100% worth it and cannot wait to return in the future with friends and family. read more

You guys know I'm dubious of Mexican food outside of Texas (and Mexico of course) but Bakersfield delivers. Great place to hang for happy hour with a big patio and communal tables that give you a chance to ask people what their delicious looking meal is and if they enjoyed it before ordering your own food. They have an extensive list of Tequilas and Whiskeys plus a few signature cocktails. My dinner partner and I shared a massive pitcher of the seasonal strawberry margarita and not only was it cost effective but packed one hell of punch ;-) For dinner we ordered the Short Rib Queso, Milanese Torta and the few of the tacos. The queso was good hot, creamy, tons of short ribs def good to share with a group of friends. The Milanese Torta was HUGE and the chicken was perfectly thin and crunchy. My only feed back is that the bread is too dense and filling they should look for a more authentic Torta bread and then it would be perfect! The tacos were and filling. Bakerfield's really cares about their customer experience, and makes sure you all have a memorable experience. From customer service, to food presentation and taste, they are spot on. If you want to make sure you have a good experience, don't go during busy hours like dinner time and late night, or else you'll find yourself very frustrating waiting in line since the restaurant is quite a small place. Their Short rib Queso is super delicious; very cheesy and a good amount of meat to pair it up with. Bakersfield has great drinks and I loved the cocktails I had this past visit. The pineapple margarita was delicious and I really enjoyed their Paloma. The guac is always great (slightly smaller portion than other places it seems) and this time we also got the queso which was very good too. I enjoyed the fish and Baja shrimp tacos. I preferred the shrimp but would get both again. Remember, these tacos are street style so getting 2-3 is the way to go. I don't normally enjoy corn tortillas but I like them here. I'd happily give 5 stars if the wait time wasn't always insanely long. I get it. The place is popular because they have good food and a nice outdoor space but goodness....our wait on Friday was 90 minutes and we got the text not a minute before that. By the time we sat to eat I was tipsy for all of the drinks I had from waiting and almost full from the guac and queso I had ordered at the bar! Updating my review: Bakersfield is still crowded on the weekends, starting at about 6-7 pm on more weekends downtown. With many places opening up in and around the city, you typically only wait about 15 minutes. The margaritas are still great, but there are better in the city at this time. I am not sure if they changed how they make them since 2019, but they taste a little sweeter now and a little more syrupy. Still delicious, and I will drink them every weekend if I have to. Get the loaded queso -- it is still fantastic. I crave it. Service has improved. However, I still cannot give them 5 stars because it still lacks... Anticipate dinner taking a lengthy amount of time, and expect to get alcohol faster than water or soda. Since our last large group visit, we have not done another one at Bakersfield and don't plan on doing another one. They are typically pretty busy so expect a little wait but we were lucky enough to be there for lunch and got seated right away. We started with chips and salsa and a margarita. Their pineapple margarita is by far my favorite in the city and has so much flavor. After the chips and salsa we tried a few of their different street tacos. You order all the tacos single so you can mix up the flavors. My personal favorite is the carnitas and the shrimp taco. Food came out pretty quickly and the service was great. They hand make their corn tortillas (expect smaller street-style tacos and plan on at least 3 of them) and serve up both vegetarian and meat varieties. The queso dip is a great appetizer option, and chorizo on top is a bonus. My personal favorites are the shrimp and fish tacos, which always come with perfectly cooked seafood and are dressed deliciously. If you're not in the mood for tacos (but I mean, who isn't?) then at least treat yourself to one of their classic or flavored margaritas, all of which can be made spicy with fresh muddled jalapeños. Our consistent go-to are spicy pineapple margaritas, but they also have rotating seasonal flavors (such as this summer's watermelon) which are always delicious. Meh? I liked it, but I like other restaurants like Nada better. I stopped by before a show at the Murat and I definitely recommend reservations. They were on a 1.5 hour wait on a Thursday night. I've had the tacos a couples times but never wowed by them. I was thinking it was because I had them to go. But even the fresh fish tacos I had were good, but not great. I really had to add some sauce to them. I was also a bit disappointed that the chips and salsa didn't come out first before the food, But when we finally got it- the green sauce was delicious. The red was a little Smokey. They just added a new cauliflower side with queso, it was a nice compliment to the tacos. I tried the pineapple margarita, and it has light, sweet, tart. Great place to hang on a summer night with friends. My bride and I visited on a Sat night around 6:30 and was told it would be an hour wait. It was pretty busy but seemed to have quite a few tables open - guessing for reservations. We decided to grab a drink at the bar (great bartender!) and wait outside - which turned out to be a great place to people watch and pass the time. After about 45 mins we were seated just inside the door behind the host station. Not a real private table - but definitely another great people watching spot. We started out with the chips and salsa ($4). My bride didn't care for the chips - but I really liked the red salsa....had a smokey taste with a fair amount of kick. For tacos, we ordered two Pollo Asado ($4 each), Pastor ($4) and Cochinita Pibil ($4). The Pibil was my favorite with it's spicy flavor.
