The first time I tried Bakery Lorraine, I fell in love with the food and macarons. However, over the years the prices have gone up and the quality, overall, has gone down. Looking at you grilled cheese and the lack of fontina on the tomato soup cheese bread. But, I keep going because it has some food and flavors that are hard to find, or they used to be at least. Now, there are a lot of bakery's that serve this style of food, similar quality, with lower prices. Not that my business matters too much to them, I am just one customer, but if Bakery Lorraine wants to stay competitive they need to start focusing on customer service. When the hours say 7 am to 4 pm, I would think the doors would be open by at least 7:20. When the employee and I make eye contact on either side of the window, maybe let me know something instead of just turning your back. I'm willing to pay $16.00 for bread, egg, and sausage but you have to open the door, when I have to be at work by 8:00. I went to McDonald's, got through their drive through and got essentially the same components of the dish for $4.15, and it took less than 4 minutes. But, like I said, I'm one customer, it may not matter in the grand scheme of things. read more

I may now be obsessed with this place and it is dangerously close to work... A coworker and I had a little more time than usual for lunch at last week and se suggested we have lunch here... Well, since she was going to twist my arm about it! Haha The inside is beautiful and very clean. The menu is limited but everything looks delicious. Lunch time is perfect and the half sandwich with a cup of soup is perfect for lunch. The serving size is wonderful. The tomato soup is thick, rich, and full of flavor. A little heavy on the salt but very good. I had the half Cuben and about died from the deliciousness! The bread was super buttery, the cheese was super melty, and the flavors were wonderful. And oh pickles! And the soup and sandwich paired perfectly. I did not try dessert, but like I said, dangerously close to work... We had tea with lunch because the cold weather calls for hot beverages. I love tea and was very pleased with their selection. And even better, they have honey! My friend says she always gets the grilled cheese. She said she loves the apricot jelly they add. I was hesitant and didn't get it, but will try it next time. And there will be a next time... This is always my "go to" place when in the medical center especially when I have an early morning doctors' appointment & have to fast. I ordered the croque madam and the soup. The Madam was basically a poached egg on ham, cheese, and toast. So unbelievably good. My wife's Cuban was amazing, with the some of the best bread I've ever had. The only annoying part is parking, so park in the back. Great food! read more

The coffee and ambiance are great. I'm a regular here. The main issue is their internet. If you need to work on anything that requires an internet connection, do not go here. I've come here quite a few times. The baked goods/sweets are usually really tasty. My favorites are the almond crescent, panna cotta, and the unique macaroons, but things are a little pricy. My favorite breakfast item is their banana toast which is really good size; if you like banana bread and french toast, you'll love this. My go-to for lunch is their daily quiche which is always super buttery yet light, and probably the best quiche I've had. I had lunch today at this location in the Medical Center. When I arrived there was one patron at the counter ahead of me. She was clearly aggravated but, I kept my distance at first because I wasn't certain what was happening. When I got closer she was frustrated that they were out of what looked like an advent box for macarons. The manager came over to assist the clerk and the patron became increasingly rude and condescending to the poor clerk who was clearly just trying to help her decide on something else. This woman was so mean, she started tapping on the bakery case saying things like "ok, I'll take those, get it done NOW" and told the Clerk that speaking with him was like being on a carousel because the conversation went round and round. It was at that time the manager spoke up and told this woman she was going give her a refund and cancel her order because she was treating the clerk so poorly. Woo hoo! I was so relieved that she stuck up for her clerk. This woman was actually shocked that she got called out, she then stated they were passing up on a $10 tip. As she left she said, I guess you all don't take care of the doctors around here. What a jerk! The manager was very apologetic to me after she had to deal with an idiot. After all the hype about this bakery, I knew I had to give it a try myself, so when my husband and I were down at the Pearl for our anniversary, we stopped in for dessert. I love a good sandwich and Bakery Lorraine did not disappoint. The sautéed spinach sandwich was just what I needed today. It was so worth the many calories I am sure it has. I didn't take advantage of their lunch special of half a sandwich with half a soup or salad and I'm so glad I didn't. I ate half my sandwich and have the other half to enjoy tomorrow. It came with a pickle and crispy potato chips. My friend had the turkey sandwich and she was happy with hers too. I tried one of their macarons and have to say that it was pretty yummy. At breakfast we had the pain au chocolat and a butter croissant. They were both buttery, Flaky and very close to the real thing. Sadly no real French style sandwiches. I really love this place. Some might argue that their desserts are overrated, but I can always reliably order their baked treats or soups + bread combos, knowing that it will be good. My favorite item from their baked treats are the croissants (in order of favorite): pistachio (THE BEST - when they're in season, please try them), almond, and everything bagel type. I'm allergic to almonds, and I still order the almond croissants when pistachio croissants are out of season. The only downside to their menu is their coffee - sometimes, their coffees are too acidic, but if you go on a good day, it will come out very good.
