This place is a 5-star pastry shop. Nothing less. First off, the smell when you walk in is just incredible; coffee, fresh flaky dough, baked cookies, and sweet spices, etc. It's an amazing aroma of creamy chocolate which is churned in the bottom of shop (There is a glass floor where you can watch chocolate being made). I have never had a twice-baked croissant!! This is an amazing idea!! The crunch from the outside layer, the crisp snap from every bite, and the delicious thick & creamy almond paste inside the croissant. It's mind-blowing. This clearly becomes my favorite shop for an almond croissant. They do it the best here. I also enjoyed their chocolate croissant! It was great tasting but I can do without that extra sweetness. They make their pastries and hardy sandwiches in the kitchen where customers can see! It's authentic and made fresh daily! I'd love to come back again. You cannot come to Seattle and NOT TRY THIS. Do what everyone on here recommends and get yourself an almond croissant. It's a bit sweeter than the normal croissants I get but man oh man is it decadently delicious. MUST HAVE. We went ham and got EVERY type of cake slice and the little rectangular ones too.. Don't do that. It was way too sweet. Some of the cakes didn't have much of a balance to offset the sweetness. Some people who really dig sweet things love em', but I kinda like balance to the sweetness like tartness. Line moves quickly, and its first come first serve. You can reserve and order cakes over the phone though so that's cool. We got a whole cake, again, it was better to split different slices to give your palate a break of super decadence. Customer service from the gal who took my order was 5 stars and 1 star for the guy who answered and put the phone down for 2 minutes and didn't put it on hold. Taste is great but pics didn't really match up with my expectation for the praline dessert. I felt kinda bad getting 2 items and a drink but it's cheat day. And no worries because the portions are so tiny I was really shocked for the price the amount of such a sliver sizedportion. The cookie is for tomorrow size is good and average for that. Raspberry Italian soda was great. Again high priced for the portion. The praline dessert didn't look or taste as described I feel like it was completely missing the lighter brown filling. Today cost 20$ next time I'll limit them to a cap of 10.00 that's one dessert plus tip and tax and no drink. To me I will reiterate this is not a serving but more like a sample size. SMH but packaging and presentation was very impressive hence probably why the higher cost. Parking was pretty bad and minimal in front but on a main road. Their Double Baked Almond Croissant is the best thing I ever ate. It's crunchy, buttery, but not greasy, and flaky. It's the perfect amount of sweetness. There's powdered sugar and almonds on top. On the inside is a sweet almond paste that makes it soft and moist. All the other things we got were pretty good too! But that almond croissant is the piece de resistance. The smell of chocolate in the morning is a little slice of heaven and a great way to start the day. We arrived at Sea Tac around 7:30am and drove to Nouveau to pick up some holiday chocolates as a gift by 8:20am. It was fairly quiet but you could tell the staff was getting ready for a rush as it was the Friday before Christmas. We picked out some chocolates and then decided to try their apple danish and bacon quiche along with two coffee. It was all delicious and I wish I had paid more attention to what kind of coffee they serviced because it was pretty good. If it had been busier then the seating would've been limited but there were only about 3 other tables taken while we were there. The parking was easy but pretty tight in their little lot. I would've given them 5 stars but a few of the employees weren't all that friendly and one woman cleared our order and rung someone else up as we were standing there waiting to pay without telling us. I didn't know it was happening until the man put his money on the counter between myself and the other customer paying beside me. The food and coffee were good and it was cool seeing the mixer below through the glass floor. Worth a visit if in the area. read more

I was in the neighborhood to pick up my favorite leberwurst from Hans Delicatessan, and saw a little sign saying Bakery Nouveau had good pretzels and apple struedel. I'm a sucker for apple struedel, so it was a no-brainer to make another stop on a rainy Saturday. Everything looked incredible, and the glass floor showing the chocolate-making machine (or whatever it was) in the basement was really cool. We got the last piece of struedel (evidently it usually sells out before lunch is over), but couldn't stop until we decimated the cinnamon rolls and pretzels. I judge an apple struedel by comparison to my mom's apple pie. I've only found one that was exactly the same, and that was at a snack stop at the top of Kitzbuehel in Austria. That's a long way to go for struedel... Bakery Nouveau's wasn't at that level (or altitude), but it was close in quality and, crucially, in travel distance. Apples cooked just right - not too crisp, not too mushy - sweet enough without cloying. I'm not sure if the apple skins were left on, or if I got bits of apple core, but that was mildly distressing. My son said the cinnamon roll was one of the best he's had. Pretzels are for tonight, but I'm optimistic based on the experience so far. Easily my new favorite bakery. I'll be back for more - here's a formal request to ratchet up the struedel production level. read more

My husband and I tried this bakery for the first time today. We have traveled all over Europe and, still, this bakery is the best one .

Omg. Noooo. I can't believe they are slowly don't know what they do best. I have been busy this year and only been there less than I've hoped. But each time I go this past months or so, it's either the staffs are super chatty and didn't come help me until they are done talking, and they don't ask you about heating up your pastries anymore, or their desserts are actually way too sweet and the coffee are not as good (such as burnt milk in Latte one time, sour and bitter coffee (probably too old), or super foamy latte. Like WHAT?!) I am disappointed cause I'm a fan for so long. Today is my birthday so I went there to get a little slice of cake to celebrate. I LOVE praline. Any hazelnut is my thang. But that Praline Dream cake they have is way too much. I think I know what they are trying to do? But it's way too sweet. Legit too much sugar to enjoy the rich hazelnut and the crunch. I couldn't finish it. I have had so many of their cakes, so this is surprising. I also had their chocolate cake before and it's also rich, but not sweet to death that you only taste sweetness but coco flavor. Oh and I worked at a store that sell praline eclairs. I can eat that all day even it's filled with praline cream! It's because they did it the right way - to let the hazelnut nutty flavor to shine; not to cover it with sugar!! Oh and the croissant. Wow I'm so amazed how it could be from great best place to have croissant, to its only better than standard croissant. I love plain croissant and yes I also had that for birthday. No. The crunch is hard and not light and flaky anymore. Maintained the flavor but I think it could do better, like where's the buttery taste in it? I only taste oil and dough? I thought yall won an award before! I am sure I can get better croissant elsewhere in town than here! I have so many more to be disappointed that I wanted to talk about, but I guess I'll just put the ones I had today...Otherwise It will be a lonnnggg review. Oh and the customer service is "good luck". Which means you either get that real good staff, or you don't, and you'll get some attitude for heating up your sandwich. (They didn't ask but I asked her to, and I know there's a small line behind me BUT DAMN I AM BUYING IT and I said thanks and please and all?! And this place always form a line now and then!) Ok. Frustration is out. I hope they do better cause I'm really really disappointed and I actually have to think about it before I come instead of craving to come here. Yes I still recommend you to come cause it's a cool place. They still have good sandwiches so come for lunch. But I no longer sure about their coffee/desserts/bread. Looks very classy from the storefront and everything looks super fancy with a nice chocolatey whiff going on about. They have a wide selection of macarons, sorbets, breads, savory and pastries. They do order cakes too in cheesecake and cake varieties. I had the opera cake with an 8oz mocha in a dark roast blend and it was one of the better mochas I have had in a while. I like dark and strong with the right amount of sugar and it was perfect for me. The opera cake looked amazing with all these layers looking inviting and the taste was good too. It had a bit of an eggy taste/smell but the flavors dominate more, most people won't even notice !. Wow! Amazing! Everything! Seriously! From nearly anywhere in Burien, just follow the tantalizing aromas in the air to this top notch French bakery and chocolatier. My local family brought me here and I might have gone a little overboard attempting to try a little of everything over the course of three consecutive days. I started with some take out gelato and sorbets, then moved on to one of every kind of macaroon in the case. Next up, a chocolate bar for a souvenir, because you can look through a window in the floor and watch and smell them making chocolate below. For breakfast we tried the breakfast bagel sandwich, croissant, quiche Lorraine, and the kugelhopf. My breakfast bagel with egg, prosciutto and creamy cheese was a scrumptious sandwich. The kugelhopf, touted to be a popular item, was good, though the texture was different that I anticipated for what I thought was coffee cake. The quiche was absolutely without any question the best quiche I have had anywhere, ever, honestly! Such light and fluffy, smooth and creamy, flavor packed into a delicate beautiful crust. Along with breakfast I enjoyed a mocha, because well they do make the chocolate and the whipped cream in house and the freshness and quality is clearly worth the indulgence. For lunch, we tried the Italian roll heated and also one not heated to take for later. High quality meats and cheese on a fresh baked Italian roll with all the trimmings, makes such a hearty, delicious lunch. The dessert gelato and the macaroons were tasty but not as special and over the top amazing as the cake slices in the bakery case. Over our few visits we tried; ballet slice, blueberry limoncello slice, and German Chocolate slice. While they were all perfect, fresh, worthy of ordering again, multiple times, our favorite finisher was the ballet slice. The pretty sugared raspberries that top this bar, followed by a light mouse, a moist cake, and a crunchy layer that we could not describe but could not stop eating while humming mmm, made for a heavenly treat worthy of doing my very best happy dance, ballet inspired. read more

I've heard great things about this bakery and was so happy to hear that they have a location in Downtown Burien. The baked goods here are so incredibly delicious! My favorite here would be their twice baked almond croissant and chocolate croissant. They are crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. I also loved their seasonal raspberry croissant that's in a shape of a flower. They sell macarons, sandwiches, coffee, sweet and savory baked goods. Everything was reasonably priced and I paid about $25 for a box of baked goods. There is plenty of parking at this location which makes me happy that I don't have to hunt for street parking. I absolutely love this bakery! But today visit i encountered a large FLY in the pastry cabinet that was hanging out. Rather disgusting to know the cabinets don't have doors or guards to keep flies and unwanted things off the food. I still love the food served here but the bakery will continue to have problems of flies if they don't add a cover/window. I did tell the worker and she threw out the pastry it was on. read more

This bakery is where it's at! I was amazed at how good everything looked when I stepped in, but believe me when I say everything tastes even better! All of the croissants are so flaky and light and the best I've ever had. I'm partial to the raspberry almond croissant because the mesh of sweet and tart raspberries with the smooth raspberry cream and super flaky croissant was so, so good! The strawberry pistachio cake was also a favorite because it had a really nice texture and wasn't overly sweet. I also really liked the ratatouille sandwich. It was nicely toasted and had a very buttery crust reminiscent of my favorite Chicago deep dish pizza filled with an assortment of roasted veggies that don't make me feel too guilty for trying a bunch of new pastries. And lastly, their lavender macarons are some of the best I've tried and have a really strong fragrant flavor that I'm obsessed with. The bf and I always pick up an assortment of things to try, and so far nothing has yet to disappoint. Only downside is that their selection varies depending on the day and how early you get there since they get packed and things sell out quickly! read more

Chocolate lovers dream...been wanting to come to this bakery for so long after seeing it all over Yelp. I pulled up to this massive mural on the side of the building. It's got a classy and old school vibe. I could see how parking could get a little tricky here but luckily someone pulled out as I was pulling in. I grabbed my backpack excited to get some work done and headed inside. I immediately realized there was only about 5 tables that were all filled...so I knew I was going to have to get this to go and head to the coffee shop down the block. I head they were really known for their twice baked croissants and it looked amazing so I happily ordered. Unfortunately, I forgot to ask for it warmed and maybe in the back of my mind just assumed they would warm it? Not a major deal but I was a little disappointed but that's kind of my fault but also appreciate when the baristas ask since I have a bad memory lol. We were next door at Vince's Italian restaurant and decided to stop by here afterwards to see what they had that we could take home. The exterior was intriguing - they have a lovely old fashioned mural on the wall - and I liked the francophile-friendly name. They were hopping - very busy, with all tables taken and a line - but they were moving the line quickly and with just enough time for us to peruse the jaw-dropping array of treats. The selection is extensive and impressive. These are high-level confections. There are both single serve truffles and other small delights made with care and creativity, as well as larger-sized cakes and creams and whatnot. All radiates classy decadence. I ordered a total of 7 pieces of cakes and pastries. Total $35. I ate 3 cakes in the store and brought the rest of it Togo. The 3 are: 1. Pistachio Cassie: it is as described: tangy mousse, with pistachio over almond crunch base. The best among the three. 2. Phoenix cake: I didn't get the accent or flavor of pear. It is pretty much just have the cake sweetness and accent of caramel. Just a piece of cake with little bit of caramel accent. 3. German chocolate cake: Even though I can see texture of pecans clearly. I didn't taste or smell coconut or pecan. My wife who does not like coconut could not tell that there is coconut it in. Another cake that I would not be able to tell the ingredient if it was for a blind test. About the later two above, there was nothing bad about the flavor. Bakery Noveau has quality pastries, breads, sandwiches, coffee and more. It is nestled in downtown Burien and is housed in a charming brick building. They make my favorite crossiants. The crossiants are flaky, buttery and melt in your mouth. Their cakes are also great quality and delicious. Most recently I've had the German chocolate cake and the chocolate part was decadent along with the coconut frosting. I also tried their cream cheese danish with fruit on top. It was the perfect texture of crispiness and the fruit complimented the pastry portion well. This is my favorite bakery in my area and I see myself coming here again soon. :) read more

I love this place! This is one few locally owned pâtisseries, that isn't a starbucks. They make various savory and sweet pastries, from a baked salmon cream cheese pastry, to a glazed baked apple pastry over cheese. I had to get challah because tonight, my sister and I sponsor the Purim oneg. Unfortunately, we live to far from most of the shulls in Washington. They seem to be northern or in Olympia, if you're looking for multiple denominations. With this being said, there being less synagogues means a lower Jewish population and businesses. However, I went to Jewish Seattle and looked up kosher bakery and one bakery displayed in the results outside Seattle, bakery Nouveau. On the website it listed challah as a classic bread made at the bakery/cafe. So, I drove from spanaway, WA to the bakery for challah and I got a hazelnut americano. Happily, didn't have to go into Seattle for it. During my visit, i didn't have to wait long. I walked in and looked over the counter and seen the challah. A young male, came to me and asked if I needed assistance and he was prompt about providing me with all I was looking for. So, the service was great. The interior wasn't terribly small, it had about 4-5 tables at this location. It was neat and clean. Great experience. read more
