This has been a bookmark for awhile, but after The Homie raved about it, I finally had an opportunity to check out Hans' Sausage & Delicatessen in Burien (3/22/25). When I pulled into the parking lot, it was just me. Within minutes (not kidding) the shop and parking lot was filled with other customers. And no, I did not shine the bat signal, lol. Clearly this is a major destination for German centric goods. I wandered the aisles and found items I haven't seen since being a German exchange student in Tuttlingen and visiting the long shuttered Continental Store European Delicatessen in Seattle's University District on Roosevelt. Talk about nostalgia. I also heard that Bavarian Meats changing hands no longer represents its previous quality. I found Spezi, Milka and Ritter chocolates, and of course, queued up at the deli counter for fleischsalat and leberkase. The gentleman behind the deli counter kindly answered my questions. Most of the deli items are handmade onsite. The woman at the register was so welcoming and spoke positively at length about the awesome couple from Berlin who set up shop - celebrating 65 years married and this October 2025 they will celebrate 50 years in business! Love hearing these kind of stories about indie, family-run businesses. Highly recommended visit while in Burien!

Little German deli and market in Burien. Been coming here for years to get our sausages. It has a good selection of German imported food and products like fresh sausages, roasted meat. Even quark! You can tell it's pretty authentic because all of German speaking customers. The owner's wife is super sweet! In fact ,everyone in there is friendly and helpful. If you want German food and products, this is the place to come!

Had a great experience and loved the sausages and salami. The place is a bit far from me but it was worth the trip.

I haven't been able to find a good German store that has the rye bread, pickled herring, and good German sausages until I went here!

Is there German bread? I didn't see any in the pictures.

Yes, there's "German" bread. German-style bread, that is.

I'm looking for teewurst and blood and tongue wurst? I will be in Seattle early next week and this place sounds great but I am also looking for teewurst, etc. the menu photo seems to be from 10 years ago, so they still offer that fair?

They had both Teewurst and blood-tongue loaf when I was there earlier this month.

The fish here tastes and smells like the high quality, flavorful, well-made stuff it is. The fish looks beautiful too. They let us try the regular smoked salmon, the garlic, and the candied. All superb. Be warned the candied stuff - heck, all of them are addicting. The cost may seem high, but it is completely justified. You aren't getting bottom of the barrel keta (translated from native tongue to "dog") fish or "pink" salmon (only 1 tier up), you're getting fresh fish. There was no hint of gross "fishy" smell before or after eating. (To make your salmon last longer, may I suggest enjoying your salmon with rice and veggies, or in a sandwich?) They also sell high quality pork, beef, chicken, and other things in the freezer like sausage, duck, cheese. They also have pretty nicely priced wines for sale, from low $10s and up. Whites, reds, and bubblies. Highly recommend you make the side-tour to this joint for salmon. A fish dressed to impress that will win you praises.

Speaking of pork belly they were too chewy we cooked it for long enough and it was still very chewy. Service was trash. The lady that was our server poured all the meat on our fryer so half of the meat was stacked on top of each other so it took longer to cooked. We're already on a 90 minute time crunch. If my step dad wasn't pestering the lady for a next round they wouldn't have checked on us and we would've been waiting for 30 minutes. While we were waiting for the second round the lady told us to turn off our heater when we're not using it, the man later came and turned it back on and told us to keep it at level 400-500. The next time we got the food she tried to put all the meat on the fryer again my step dad said "It's okay we got it, thank you" she looked at us like we didn't know what we were doing. Later on she looked at how we put everything on the fryer she looked and laughed at us TWICE.

The owner(I assume) was extremely friendly and kind. The other diners were friendly too. Be aware there isn't a ton of seating - just two tables. I believe the owner said they do different types of fish so check to see what's currently on offer if you're curious. My friends got fried chicken at first we could not tell what pieces of chicken they were but they turned out to be the biggest juiciest wings we'd ever seen. Again, the breading was perfect and the wings were delicious. The chicken came with macaroni salad which I didn't have a chance to try because they ate it so quickly. I was a bit jealous. The portions were huge. We could have easily split our meals, but it was nice knowing we had enough for dinner later on. Definitely give this place a try. One of Burien's hidden gems! I'm looking forward to going back.
