This place is a gem and gas saver! I would do a big grocery haul at Hess' in Lakewood for my bro in law out of state ever since I moved here. My bf reminds me of this store we randomly came across one day. It has what the store in Lakewood has but more grocery options. Cute and homey store. I spent about 30mins+ give or take shopping for the family. There are many options of trinkets, chocolates (alcohol ones too) , drinks, mustards, curry ketchups, gummy candy, bread, gravy etc. I did notice they don't carry any Maggie products for gravy and such. I know that was my bro's first question as he prefers that brand lol. The staff is really kind. The deli dude was patient with me as I told him I have a lot to order. I met the female owner and she's a sweetheart. The cashier lady was also so helpful as I couldn't find a specific brand candy. She pointed me in the right direction and luckily there was enough :) There's plentiful parking in the lot, and can get pretty cramped when busy as it's not a big store but has many options. My basket total in my picture provided is $255. My brother in law asked me to take them here next time they're in town as there's so much to look at. read more

My first visit about 6 months ago was on point. My second visit, two men behind the counter were very rude and seemed annoyed with me asking questions almost so much that we almost left. We ordered sandwiches and sliced meet along with items from the store. No one else was in line and there were 3 people just standing around. We wanted to get sliced meet also and had to wait for guy making sandwiches to then cut our meet. Lastly, my sandwich was as small as the palm of my hand and cost $10.95. Not worth the headache and annoying feeling to ruin a Saturday sandwich! read more

This has been a bookmark for awhile, but after The Homie raved about it, I finally had an opportunity to check out Hans' Sausage & Delicatessen in Burien (3/22/25). When I pulled into the parking lot, it was just me. Within minutes (not kidding) the shop and parking lot was filled with other customers. And no, I did not shine the bat signal, lol. Clearly this is a major destination for German centric goods. I wandered the aisles and found items I haven't seen since being a German exchange student in Tuttlingen and visiting the long shuttered Continental Store European Delicatessen in Seattle's University District on Roosevelt. Talk about nostalgia. I also heard that Bavarian Meats changing hands no longer represents its previous quality. I found Spezi, Milka and Ritter chocolates, and of course, queued up at the deli counter for fleischsalat and leberkase. The gentleman behind the deli counter kindly answered my questions. Most of the deli items are handmade onsite. The woman at the register was so welcoming and spoke positively at length about the awesome couple from Berlin who set up shop - celebrating 65 years married and this October 2025 they will celebrate 50 years in business! They're great about tolerating our venig Deutsch, and are always happy to make recommendations, even in English. It has a very European feel as soon as you walk in the door. Maybe the coolest and most unique business in Burien. We are so lucky to have this spot so close to use. In the deli they make most everything from scratch and by hand. They are really passing down German culture through traditional foods and flavors. The staff are so helpful and often offer samples. We love their landyaegers and smoked sausages. The store itself looks nice on the outside. You walk in and can smell the food. Seems authentic until you try it and you can immediately tell the mass production. The inside of the store is very crowded, and not clean. I have shopped here multiple times in hopes of it being what it used to be, and each time end up getting sick. I will not shop here anymore. I am not sure what it is, but its changed over the years and quality is awful. I have also been passed over as a customer for "German" customers which really gives me the icks. Come on, we are all customers. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. BTW - up charging 500%+ is not the way to make a business better....just saying! read more

I have been coming to Hans' since I was a child. I returned to Hans' as an adult with my children and love that we can continue to pass the tradition of shopping for quality German food, especially the house made sausages and potato salad. The people working at the deli counter are very helpful and are able to make recommendations to fit your needs. Hans' deli never disappoints. As a matter fact, it's hard to restrain oneself from over-purchasing the plethora of authentic items offered! This store has the feel and the SCENT of the small mom and pop shops which are so familiar to me. They have magazines, lotions, napkins, w variety of condiments and beverages, as well as almost every food item you miss and just CRAVE from the Heimat. The service team are kind and knowledgeable, and it's a fun opportunity to do my shopping in German. No need to convert grams to ounces - I could just ask for 100 grams of salami or Fleischkäse - the flavor is SPOT ON! Sadly, no pix. I was in pure shopping mode. Go. I recently went on a two hour trek to checkout the German groceries at Hans'. Fist off I was impressed with all the Christmas goodies on the shelves. Stollen, Pfeffernusse, and many other German Christmas classics. If you have spent any time in Germany you will know these items are only available during this time of year. I have eaten holiday treats around the word, and still thing Germany makes the best Gingerbread cookies ever. They have a light German Deli where you can get several kinds of German Sausage. They don't have a bakery on site but they do have a few choices for bread. I highly recommend if you are looking for traditional German groceries. read more

Spent time in Berlin, Germany even married a German girl. The food was all real products from Germany except they make their own meat products in house to maintain freshness and quality! God selection of different products my wife was aesthetic surprised and pleased as well. Always love going to this place. The staff is super friendly and some of them speak German which is a nice touch. The sausage, meat and cheese selection is awesome and they stock all my favourites and more, as well as a good selection of other goodies from the homeland. The only thing I find weird sometimes is the ticket system for the counter. After perusing the store it feels kind of odd to have to go back to the entrance door to pick a number then get in line. So German! And more often than not nobody has one anyway. But that's just a minor thing. Great store, great selection and great people working there! read more

The moment you walk through their entrance you immediately get a sense of the German hospitality. You'll get a warm welcome from their cashier and a guided tour of the wide selection of meats in the deli. The butcher was friendly and patient to my wife and I with identifying the sausages; we ended up buying several kinds to get a good idea of what we want in the future; we throughly enjoyed the veal and jalapeño & cheese sausage. the sausage are a wonderful compliment to their jarred sauerkraut. this store has a wide variety of German snacks, most of which I can't quite interpret but fortunately I have a phone app that can assist. A wonderful spot for Germanophiles and people who like north European foods. Authentic German butcher shops are hard to find especially after the ruthless takeover of Bavarian Meats by a soulless corporation, thus we should support and celebrate Hans. It is an easy drive from Seattle and the East side (30 minutes from Kirkland and an excuse to go to IKEA) , nothing complicated. The general merchandise is what I hoped to see and the meat selection is perfect for someone missing those great breakfasts in Wertheim and Berlin. Don't miss out on the wurst and bread selections. Hidden gem. The selection of chocolate and mustard alone are worth going to check out. Ordered a sandwich and was a little concerned by lack of topping options - bread, meat, cheese, pickles and mustard mayo mix. So you know I added extra sauce and pickles. Had the smoked ham. Nothing not to love about this meat heaven. I grew up in Chile, and interestingly enough, German food is part of our culture (look it up). I haven't had Vienna sausages like these since I was a kid, and they tasted amazing. The souerkraut was simply perfect, even the pickle herring was great, and I don't even like it! The polish kielbasa was a smokey delight... My wife, originally from Poland, cleaned up all the chocolate aisle, and I took several brews that were just awesome. The deli was full of German and other European products like Agricola, marzipan, paprika chips, pickles, jams, mustards...so many culinary delights! Prices were dear ($6.98 for the paprika chips), but still cheaper than a flight to Frankfurt. The service was good, attentive, and informative There are basic sandwiches at the deli. Having lived 10 years in Germany, I absolutely love coming to Hans! They have amazing Landjaeger (and I'm sure the other meats are just as amazing!) and the assortment of German foods and traditional items is exceptional. I don't live particularly close to the store, but it's always worth the trip!
