We had just finished our show at the Ahmanson and were famished. Not wanting to spend a fortune on a meal, we ventured outside of The Music Center. Bak's Kitchen is a good choice for those who like a reasonably priced Sushi spot. You order at the counter. Then you can take a seat and pick it up when ready. Prices are good for what you get. The service is mediocre. When I needed a spoon for my Ramen I had to wait till the girl working looked up from her phone. So annoying.

What happened BAK? Been coming here for a decade. Not so much anymore after this encounter. Horrible customer service. last one my lunch list from now on. Good for staff, they won't have to work as much. Came here on a Friday, one of the ladies (the tall, new young hire) saw me coming in and seemed I had interrupted something of extreme importance due to her slamming an empty container on the counter to head to the register. One of the other staff saw me come in and asked what I wanted. Placed my order and waited. Idk why I ordered..... The new young lady gave me my order. When I was given my order I asked her for unagi sauce please. She said what is that? And headed to the back. When she came back she gave me the unagi sauce and while i said thank you she began to speak softly in another language and I'm pretty sure it wasn't nice what she was saying based on the nasty face she had. Watch out for attitude people.

Food here is made to order, so call ahead or patience. I usually get the beef sukiyaki or a shrimp tempura ramen noodle. Sushi rolls are also great.

The restaurant is located at Promenade Plaza. They do have a parking garage. Sorry... they are not free. During weekends, the garage also charge $10 cash for people going to Walt Disney Hall or The Broad. So make sure to tell the parking attendant that you are going to restaurant.

This is good when you're not knowing what you want. Things come with a side salad and miso soup. They added musubi! ($3) I like their rolls, normally getting their dragon or shrimp tempura rolls. I used to love their beef sukiyaki (think yoshinoya) but the last couple times were a no. Pro Tip: call and order beforehand. There are times they get super busy the wait can be long.

Terrible customer service, my daughter asked for another plastic spoon and a napkin and the lady acted like my daughter was asking for a kidney. Then I was calling for the lady asking for another lid for my soup and was absolutely ignored. The lady literally acted like I no longer existed after my daughter asked for a spoon and napkin (which apparently was far too much)

The food could've been better, but the presentation was not how it is presented in the pictures.

Decent and affordable lunch spot. The rice plates are around $10 and decently filling and come with a little side salad. Haven't had the sushi yet but there's a lot of rolls on the menu to try. I usually bring my food back to the office but there's outdoor seating in the courtyard. Service was fast and friendly. Staff in masks. Call ahead to avoid the wait during the lunch rush. Parking is a bit of an issue. There's some street meters but you may have to walk a block or two. There's not too any options in this part of downtown so I appreciate this courtyard center a lot.

Counter service with an extensive menu, reasonable prices, and generous portions. The plaza location is a relaxing place to eat outside.

Salty but lacks a depth of flavor. - The truffle sushi roll had a prominent truffle flavor (which I enjoyed, but may not be for everyone). Crunch spider roll was a favorite; just a solid classic with soft shell crab (love that an extra piece of crab is included on top of the roll). The fried onions on top of the Tokyo roll were crispy and sweet. Uni was fresh and delicious! I had uni only one time before and had a bad experience (it was incredibly fishy, and now I realize, not fresh). So I was apprehensive at first but I'm glad I gave it a chance because this uni was buttery, smooth, and briny in all the right ways. - Matcha tea was okay, medium profile matcha flavor. Not bad for the value though. Clean and refreshing. -Might be a small thing to point out, but I like how they include lemon slices automatically in the water. I also like the texture of the ice (evenly crushed and almost like a slush). Service 3.5/5 Not too long a wait for the food. Polite and professional waiters. Aesthetic 4.5/5 Traditional izakaya vibe with a relaxed, warm atmosphere. Low lighting inside. Modern layout with traditional Japanese decor.

We ended up being sat next to the grill, I have a shellfish allergy so we asked to sit in their outdoor seating area (which had plenty of tables open) instead just so my allergies don't get triggered by all the vapors. As we walked to our outdoor table, my husband and friend heard three workers talking crap about me and complaining that I shouldn't even be eating there because everything had shellfish. Let's be honest it's not that hard to accommodate, plus we're giving you our business so what's the problem? Rude all the way through table service, then when we were all finished, we had barely just paid and we were finishing our drinks when the same three workers rushed into our table to clear everything out and pushed us out of our table. The place was packed and had a lively atmosphere. There was a lot of energy, but it was still comfortable enough to have a conversation and enjoy the meal. I ordered the ramen along with the fried rice, and both were excellent. The ramen was rich, flavorful, and easily one of the best bowls I've had in the LA area. The fried rice was also a standout and paired perfectly with the meal. Service was great from start to finish. The staff was attentive, friendly, and kept everything moving despite how busy it was. Overall, it was a fantastic experience. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu. If you're in LA and in the mood for ramen, this is a spot you should absolutely check out.

Along the walls, there are also little tables where you enjoy phenomenal small bites and beats so good they have a Spotify playlist. This izakakaya's grill skews toward Thai and Japanese creations, and items that don't normally receive such attention from live fire. Naem: This plate has instructions from the chef. You are supposed to break the crispy rice balls open, place a slice of the fermented Thai pork sausage on tip, and cover it with the herby slaw. You end up with little "open face sandwiches" that highlight the different textures. The rice is hot and crispy with red chilies. The mortadella colored sausage is cold, gelatinous, and squishy. The slaw adds fresh crunchiness, tangy citrus and minty flavors. The best bite in town delivers excellent textures and flavors. Charred Japanese Sweet Potato: Do believe the hype. Is this a dessert or a treat? It's the best thing on the menu. The bite sized squares of yellow sweet potato have a luxuriously thick slathering of butter, miso koji, and chives, which is so rich it's almost like a savory frosting. The sweet potato is expertly grilled with a slight smoky char. The potato is so dense and creamy, my mind thinks of pound cake, pudding, custard?
