Not sure if this place was just renamed since the last time I frequented the area over a decade ago, or if it's just a similar replacement. The menu is pretty familiar, and still extensive for a storefront fast-casual place, but I'm getting old so who knows? I'm just reviewing the almond chicken salad, which was a pleasant surprise in both quantity and quality, considering that I ran in out of desperate starvation after a much-needed nail appt a few doors down. Lots of greens, an abundance of chicken, and a delightful dressing to boot! It's a busy corner but there are a few meters and a garage (the nail shop validates, maybe Bak does too), so I'll be back for more bites. read more

Not our original dinner destination before heading to the Disney Concert Hall, but since Au Lac is closed on Mondays, our only other closest options were here or Subway. A very small restaurant with only 5 indoor tables, but several others outdoors. We were not greeted very warmly, nor were the other couple that arrived shortly after us. Looking up at the side wall menu we finally arrived at her choice of the chicken ramen, my orange chicken salad and a shared teriyaki chicken plate, which included rice and a salad. We also grabbed canned sodas. The food was pretty decent with nice portions, but the unfriendly lack of greeting or a goodbye will probably deter us from any future visits. We had just finished our show at the Ahmanson and were famished. Not wanting to spend a fortune on a meal, we ventured outside of The Music Center. Bak's Kitchen is a good choice for those who like a reasonably priced Sushi spot. You order at the counter. Then you can take a seat and pick it up when ready. Prices are good for what you get. What happened BAK? Been coming here for a decade. Not so much anymore after this encounter. Horrible customer service. last one my lunch list from now on. Good for staff, they won't have to work as much. Came here on a Friday, one of the ladies (the tall, new young hire) saw me coming in and seemed I had interrupted something of extreme importance due to her slamming an empty container on the counter to head to the register. One of the other staff saw me come in and asked what I wanted. Placed my order and waited. Idk why I ordered..... The new young lady gave me my order. When I was given my order I asked her for unagi sauce please. She said what is that? And headed to the back. When she came back she gave me the unagi sauce and while i said thank you she began to speak softly in another language and I'm pretty sure it wasn't nice what she was saying based on the nasty face she had. The restaurant is located at Promenade Plaza. They do have a parking garage. Sorry... they are not free. During weekends, the garage also charge $10 cash for people going to Walt Disney Hall or The Broad. So make sure to tell the parking attendant that you are going to restaurant. read more

I ordered a teriyaki chicken plate just for the chicken to taste canned... Not only that they don't specify all their items and ingredients. Great place to grab sushi on your lunch hour. Caterpillar roll and rainbow roll are my go tos. Their peanut salad dressing is a dream. Ask for extra! Place is friendly, with an outside patio in a garden with running water fountains. Watch out for birds, they're brave and will get really close. read more

Decent and affordable lunch spot. The rice plates are around $10 and decently filling and come with a little side salad. Haven't had the sushi yet but there's a lot of rolls on the menu to try. I usually bring my food back to the office but there's outdoor seating in the courtyard. Service was fast and friendly. Staff in masks. Call ahead to avoid the wait during the lunch rush. Parking is a bit of an issue. There's some street meters but you may have to walk a block or two. Had the tonkatsu ramen. Ready in less than 5 minutes. Came in a quart sized plastic togo container and very cheap utensils. First tasted the green onions, their prep needs to learn how to separate the pieces of the white part of the onion into individual circles. Next came the pork. I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of meat, three large (aroud 5") thick pieces that were very tender. But, unfortunately, everything went downhill from there. The broth was an instant premade broth that is probably the same as their udon broth. So a bit fishy, soy based. The noodles are very cheap noodles, but at least they were well cooked. Pork 4.5/5 Broth 1/5 Noodles 2.5/5 So it averages out to 2.3/5. Not great, but filling. Price was just under $12 before tax and tip. read more

It will do. I work nearby and the prices at least in the past were lower than other places surrounding it. It is definitely hit and miss. I was ordering their teriyaki salad until it went up in price making it no longer worth it. Then I ordered their teriyaki plate. Beware however sometimes their rice is just mush. Their rolls are decent, sometimes they might have more sauce than is palatable to some. A co-worker introduced me to this place as it is very close to the Stanley Mosk Courthouse in DTLA. Some of the high points of Bak's Kitchen are: (1)- Item 40: Baked Salmon Rice. Good portion of salmon with just the right amount of flavor. So much rice! Enough for three people. Comes with a nice mixed salad. $8.99 (2)-Orders are prepared quickly. Plenty of outdoor seating which is a plus during the current pandemic. (3)-This is a small business located in a plaza with other eateries such as Subway. This spot saved us during the pandemic. I work nearby and they stayed open. Maybe not the entire time but when we needed them they were open. I always enjoy their sushi (LA Roll), Raman or teriyaki bowl without the veggies. Pluses: Perfectly-cooked chicken (a lot of times teriyaki joints have overcooked the meat), high-quality salad greens and dressing (instead of the iceberg and cheap ranch one finds alongside many teriyaki plates), and a plug-in to recharge my rapidly-dying iPhone before resuming my on-foot exploration of the area. Downsides: The sauce was not great, nor were the peas and cubed carrots sprinkled over the meat. Those flavors unfortunately overwhelmed the good ones.
