Loved this gem in downtown Durango! Great spot to grab a drink and overlook the downtown Durango scene. The bartenders were friendly and efficient. For food: I got two tacos, the chicken and pulled pork for $3.50/taco = YUM! Highly recommend the chicken tack, it was DELISH for bar food which was a pleasant surprise. Needed a small snack and cold drinks. Noticed the sign that said "no dogs." Had our service dog with us and it is clearly identified as a service dog. We sat down. Bar tendered approached us and said that they don't allow dogs there. Knowing ADA policy, I stated that she was a service dog. He glanced at her and said ok. Stopped here for a quick lunch with my partner and we're extremely disappointed. When we arrived we were notified that the kitchen was closed for a couple minutes as the chef was just coming back from the airport. Not a big deal at all, figured the food would be fresh when he got there anyways. We ordered the balcony chicken sandwich which sounded delicious on the menu, but was extremely soggy and bland as it arrived. The chicken was rubbery and clearly hadn't been seasoned at all. Came with a side of avocados that were more brown than green. Ordered with a side of fries that were clearly store bought, frozen, and they couldn't have even bothered to salt them. Extremely disappointed that we spent upwards of $50 for lunch for two people and it tasted disgusting. I know the ambiance of the balcony looks tempting but please don't waste your money here and go elsewhere. read more

The waitress was pretty bad as well, and we basically only saw her when she took our order and when she brought our food, despite the fact that we had empty drinks for most of our lunch. I wouldnt even give them one star if I had to. First we stood in line to get a table for 10 minutes and did not even notice us. Looks like they have 2 servers only. One behind the bar and one that was in the table area that looked like she had no clue what she was doing. We got our drinks while we were in line waiting for a table but after we were seated at the bar for another 10 minutes asked for another round of drinks and ordered that and never given the drinks and was never asked for a food order while people that were seated after us already have their food on the table eating and one putting their food order in. No nonsense waitresses who care more about getting your drinks to you than making small talk. I ordered the $6 shot and a beer special. I smelled lots of food food coming by. Solid 4 star experience. Our server was the sweetest young woman ever. Serving families with small kids is a giant pain in the ass. She was sweet, kind and patient with the kids (including an angry kinder meltdown) and was quick and efficient. Our food was excellent - perhaps our best meal in Durango - and our server happily modified meals for my kids' taste. There's no kids menu, but our server made us all feel welcome. The wine was Bota Box which cracked me up because I love to drink it at home. Patio is awesome, with a great view and the live music was fantastic. We can't wait to return! read more

This place possibly has one of the best roof top patios in Durango. Overlooks the beautiful Downtown Durango and when all the plants are potted up this is the place to be. The crowd is eclectic, not just the college crowd, everyone comes here. With that said I think the drinks and the patio are the things that bring you back here. Food is typical fried bar food, nothing special and certainly nothing that screams, must have now. My crandberry and vodka was solid, not the best pour I've ever had but certainly fine and the BF had a cold beer on draft. Worth a visit and would work well for groups on the patio. Great place for casual drinks and the food they put out is awesome too. One of our favorite places in Durango with a great view of the mountains and downtown, really solid rotating taps and beer selection, and bar food that is really hard to beat. Our favorite is the BBQ nachos and they are big too. We also had our rehearsal dinner with them in the Balcony Backstage and it was perfect. Allison was awesome rolling with minor items that came up as we got closer and they made sure everything was perfect. A year later we are still getting compliments from wedding guests how it was one of the coolest rehearsal dinners they have been to. Balcony Bar and Grill is really the best of Durango, awesome people, comfortable atmosphere, and amazing views. Can get really busy so just be prepared to carve out your own areas. read more

We really enjoyed this place. Food price is very fair. I bought the large dinner salad for $6.95. Great quality lettuce and how is that not a fair price? I also had the BBQ burger with fries. $8.95. So the other reviewer complaining about price must dine mostly at McDonalds. Staff was very friendly and this place was full the entire time. A lot of locals eating here also. Another very good sign. We are visiting from out of town and thought that this great place overlooking a main intersection would be great. Casey was the server and greeted us warmly. We sat down at a table that was old and dinghy but it's an outdoor cafe so it looked like the weather had taken it's toll. When I saw how filthy the menus and bottles were on the table (see picture), I wanted to leave... can you imagine how filthy the kitchen is if that stuff is that dirty??? 3 of the 5 of us ordered the chicken tacos... presentation was pretty poor but tasted good. 1 order of spinach artichoke dip...fair. I ordered just a cheeseburger and it came with all the fixings- fries (old fashioned crinkle cut) very good (I guess the fryer oil was clean, yayyy) tomato, lettuce, onion and really good pickles. The burger was another story. Last I knew medium well was pale pink in the middle and cooked on the outside. This was raw in the middle and BURNED on one side. At first I thought it was just the cheese that melted off the side and burned but nooo. When I turned it over it was burned burned BLACK. The Cook/Owner said that's how they do medium well. I didn't know you could choose your own way to cook something that is universally known without an explanation. He made a new one reluctantly and it was the same. The waitress said we were being difficult and the owner told us we we being fucking crazy... yes...he dropped the f-bomb in front of our 82 year old Aunt. Since when do you say things like that to a customer? Since when do you tell a customer that it's their fault if they didn't eat a terrible meal? Since when do you make a customer pay for a meal that there wasn't one bite taken from? The place is filthy, the whole staff including the owner is rude as hell.... as we left Casey thanked us for the generous tip, out loud so everyone there could hear, that we didn't give her. NEWSFLASH... You don't get a tip when you tell the customer they are being ridiculous. NEW CUSTOMERS: Save yourself the aggravation... there are plenty of great restaurants in the area that I'm sure won't treat you like this. read more

There was a lot of flies which got annoying when the food came out. I was recommended to this place, and the attraction is the chicken tenders. The chicken wasn't the best that I've had, but nevertheless it was great. The basket came with fries and 6 chicken tenders. The tenders were breaded perfectly and the chicken was pretty good. The overall experience here was not good. We were initially drawn by the live music and seemingly pumped up vibes. There was one waitress and one bar tender serving the entire place. Sadly, I'm sure they were overwhelmed causing multiple people, including ourselves, to continually wait for food, drinks, etc. After waiting a considerable amount of time, we did get our food and needless to say that was disappointing as well. There wasn't much flavor to it at all. I got a burger with all the toppings and deviled eggs as an appetizer. My husband got fried pickles and a steak sandwich. The eggs had been sitting too long and were hard and there was much too much mustard in the mix. Our sandwiches were not what we hoped they'd be: small in size and without much flavor. Lastly, my husbands fried pickles were also undercooked, but his sweet potato fries were good though. The music was pretty good but hard to understand. Our waitress was also very polite, but she never did ask if we'd like refills after we received our appetizers. Unfortunately, we don't plan on coming back again for our annual visit. read more

Balcony Bar and Grill is a must to check out when you are in downtown Durango! It's located in the center of downtown. There are stairs that lead up to the restaurant and the name says it all. There is only outside seating where you get a view of downtown Durango and the historic buildings. There are umbrellas to cover you, open seating facing out towards the street or you can sit at the bar. There is also a stage that they have love entertainment at night. The atmosphere is like a dive bar but with a titch of class. The menu is simple, appetizers, soup/salad, lunch and entrees. Let's not forget the full bar. They offer many brews on tap, various margaritas (I recommend the house margarita), a variety of delicious mules (the Low Eddy, Ruby Red mule was amazing!) and others spirits. My boyfriend got the spicy Bloody Mary, it wasn't the best but if you like a Bloody Mary with a sausage taste, check it out. I tried it and it had the spice kick but I did not prefer the little sausage link taste to it (it's even served with a sausage link). We had the artichoke dip and chips, very good. He had the cheese burger, it was decent but it came with crinkle cries, so you know those bad boys were from a frozen bag. I had the house shrimp tacos topped with coleslaw, they were very good. I got the house salad with a side of jalapeno cilantro vigarette, it had artichoke hearts and was a huge side salad, my favorite part aside from the drinks. The service was decent our waitress seemed a little out of it and forgot parts of our order and had to ask us a few times. This bar has a super great atmosphere. When the weather is nice and I want a beer, I want to be at the Balcony. Was just there on Friday night and the music was awesome! People were up dancing and everyone was just having a great time. Good service too, especially considering how busy it gets there. Don't go to this bar ..... workers scam your CC and ghost tab (second tab) your bill with friends/others while you are eating, then close that tab out at end of the night like you ran out on the bill. When you call back to complain about two charges to your CC they call you a liar. Also stating they "can't" credit my CC due to their systems...total lie as I have worked in restaurants before and you can. Nothing you can do but dispute with your CC company and deal with all those issues. Don't go to this place unless you are looking for a headache the next day, but not from the booze....not worth it. Food is average bar food at best. If you do go ONLY use cash..... not trust worthy group of people!!! Read another review where they took 200.00 for a tab in cash after the tab had been closed with a CC. Goal!!!! We were up visiting Durango during the USA run in the FIFA world cup. Deciding to go up to the balcony bar before heading back, we were shocked to see how packed this place was. USA scored, everyone cheered and the band proceeded to play. The bartenders were great even though they were slammed. The band was great and the atmosphere was killer.
