If you are a lover of well done birria, this is your place. Craving authentic Mexican food? Yep, this is your place. We started with their chips and salsa. I think you can tell a lot by the salsa at a place. Lemme just say, I was so very happy! Their salsa wasn't too chunky, not too thin and they are not afraid to season and add some heat - but hey, don't worry it wasn't too hot if you've got a dad like mine who isn't a fan of "too much spice." Such a good omen. I couldn't decide which marg to try so ordered a flight. Best decision ever. Even as I write this, I'm still hard pressed to choose a favorite. They were all so good. Add street tacos, quesadillas for my mom, elote cob, and switch fries for my dad and we were all happy campers. The flavors were obscenely good. Staff were amazing and stopped by to make sure we were always taken care of: fast and friendly. Best combo ever. The place is also super cute! Loved the bar and simplicity of the concept. Switchback has a quiet elegance while be so very casual. Perfect in my book.

There are dogs, areas of shade and sun to sit, a full bar and food. They only have drip coffee and cold brew in the afternoons (kind of a bummer), but it was better than nothing. I would've loved to come back to try their breakfast but our flight home was early the next morning. This place is really central to everything and you can walk drive or bike here. Pets are welcome!

The new and improved Balcony Backstage is now easily the coolest bar and venue in Durango. The stage that has been built in the back has been able to accommodate tons of awesome shows each weekend. The burger tasted good and the tacos really hit the spot. The sound is incredible and all of the bartenders are super friendly and on point with drinks. You will be missing out if you aren't able to check out this bar / venue so make sure you give this place a shot next time you find yourself out in town! read more

Skip this place, they employ racists here. The bartender Andrew, tried to steal my friends ID saying it was fake. But my friend is in 30's and he is a latino man. So he called the cops because a Latino man with a Florida ID must be a illegal right? The Cops came, gave my friends ID back, and left. Andrew didn't have the spine to apologize for being a xenophobic racist, he just avoided us until we left. If your skin isn't white, I'd walk right past this place! read more

After eating the hamburger here I don't think I'll ever be able to eat another hamburger again. I cannot describe how amazing the food is here. If you come here order any hamburger and you'll see what I mean. I'm going to make sure I go here whenever I can! The service was great and we got our food fast. This sandwich is truly epic. The wheat bread is from a local bakery. Instead of it being toasted in a perfunctory, afterthought manner, it is thoroughly toasted right at the point of the wheat kernels cracking, engendering the goodness only wheat can provide. The bacon is properly cooked, with no hint of undercooked slime present. The green chili tastes as though it was brought here this morning from Hatch, with the whole of the ingredients being uniquely fresh. Finally, the sriracha mayo sauce provides just the right presence of spice, uniquely accenting the green chili. Turkey itself is great, but I confess, is so overshadowed by the excellence present throughout the sandwich, that it hardly occupies the center stage. On another note, a definite problem here is that the water glass conveying a distinct taste of soap residue. It's bad. This happened the last time that I was here, as well. I did tell the owner about this today. Pricing is just right and seating can be awkward at times. I look forward to returning.

CJ (or TJ) was the only one working....besides the cook, I think. Anyway, CJ (or TJ) was handling the whole place by himself...making drinks, serving food, taking orders, the whole bit. He was so cool, we didn't mind the extra wait at all. He told us the food would be worth the wait and it was! The menu is simple, lots of burgers, some chicken options, and a few salads, along with some wings, fried pickles, quesadillas, etc. The fries and onion rings were perfect!! I mean, perfect!! We loved our experience there. Oh, and CJ (or TJ) makes a killer Old Fashioned!! They are also open for breakfast from 6:30-9:30 AM. Bar is open 3:00-11:00 PM, and dinner is from 4:00-10 PM.

The restaurant is tiny, a narrow shotgun type unit in a building along main street. We managed to get one of their five tables and were promptly served drinks and time to look over the menu before ordering the Country Benedict. My coffee was kept filled as we waited for our order. As soon as the plate hit the table, I knew that even though the owner had changed, the spirit of the place remained. The plate of food was massive; more than the two of us could eat. The plate included two halves of an excellent biscuit, half of a large sausage patty on each, an over easy egg; all smothered in country sausage gravy. The other half of the plate had a mound of beautiful browned hash browns. Enough for four people or at least two very hungry people. It was glorious and nostalgic. The flavor was everything I wanted it to be. If you are in or near Durango, please consider giving this true old diner a try.
