A warm greeting by the Hostess sets the tone for dropping this month's Mortgage money on food and wine that measures up to the decor. Baldi sprang from Georgio's in Santa Monica. Who knew slingin' noodles could generate the bucks poured into creating this magnificent space. Everything about Baldi says "You've arrived" as soon as you arrive. Pass by the Long Bar which is a nesting ground for singles who've abandoned their perch at Catch LA. It's a great spot to meet an Indie Film Producer or a chatty Real Estate Agent with his shirt open to his navel and a fist sized Egyptian Onk dangling. Maybe rename the place Balding? Never mind. Luxuriate in the lap of luxury or someone's luxurious lap. The place is huge with at least two large dining rooms all under the watchful eyes of Randy the Manager who could Captain the Enterprise with ease. I say try for a booth in the rear dining area that lines the glass window into the buzzin' Kitchen where the magic is non-stop. Settle in, peruse the Signature Cocktails and Wine options or hail Loris the Somm who has an encyclopedic knowledge of the Wine List which is large than the rough draft of War and Peace. Loris is full of surprises for you, the poster child for charming and very entertaining into the bargain. Who're you dining with? The glamorous, the amorous, Plastic projects on parade along with Private Security shooing away anyone not delivering a dish of food to an A-Lister Celeb. Want a Drink? The Bar is full literally and figuratively. My Sangue Morlacco Liqueur Sour was delish, capeesh? Luxardo Cherry Gin, Sangue Morlacco Liqueur, Vino Chinato, Honey, Lemon, Peychard Bitters and frothy Egg Whites. Impossible to leave that alone. The Staff: Eager, efficient, and helpful to the point of serving you just like they do in Assisted Living. A nice touch and mostly a good idea. The Food: There is wonderful food on this ambitious menu. Most of the dishes soar to the Heavens and are prepared well enough to please Massimo Bottura. A Basket of warm House Baked Bread (Rustic and Seeded Sour Dough) immediately appears and likely will be gone in seconds. A perfect start to a magnificent dinner. Sweet Corn Tortellini with Mascarpone Cheese and Truffle Butter elevated Pasta to new heights. Re-read the ingredients and savor what it must taste like because it tastes exactly as it reads. Tagliatelle with slices of woodsy Porcini Mushrooms and an airy Tomato Sauce. This too was heavenly. Chicken Meatballs In Umido (wet or braised) were the size of Ping Pong Balls and as fluffy as fine Falafel. Them balls was moist, and Chicken-y and featured a delicate Cream Sauce laced with a healthy handful of micro pitted Nicoise Olives. Balance half a ball on the Bread from the second or third Bread Basket. The only leftovers of this delicious dish will be the remnants of Sauce on your sleeve. Fritto Misto was a large mound of Fried Calamari, Shrimp and Cod Bites. It comes with a cup of Spicy Marinara and though ubiquitous around town this version is what Fritto Misto could and should be. Crunchy for as long as there is one bite left. Shaved Artichoke Salad was inventive and terrific in addition to a Bibb Lettuce Salad hiding a diced Avocado underneath the stack of leaves. Both Salads were crisp and a refreshing palate cleanser in preparation for what was coming. Bad News first. The Dover Sole was one click past "Hey, plate the Sole Fabrizio, it was cooked two minutes ago". Should you have to use a serrated Steak Knife to grind off a fork full of fish? As they say in Italian..."no". We'll chalk that misstep up to a frantic slammed Kitchen and dining rooms fully committed. Good News. The 8 oz Southern Range Filet Mignon from Australia was magisterial. The best Beef I can remember. Medium rare, perfectly pink and Marshmallow tender. Beautiful char on the outside while juicy and truly tasty on the inside. Not a speck of mystery chew, fat , gristle, just simply the most gorgeous Beef you can imagine. Good enough to encourage a devout Vegan to leap off the wagon. This dish should be on every table. In summation, there was fresh Peach Pie in a flaky crust Ala Mode and A Chocolate Lava Cake oozing prime Chocolate with a scoop of Chocolate Gelato. The food and service at Baldi were excellent. The ribeye was amazing, the hamachi was incredibly fresh, and the sweet corn tagliatelle was bursting with flavor. And the cheesecake was one of the best desserts I have ever had. I am still dreaming about it. I would absolutely come back for the food. Our server was kind and attentive. We were very happy with the service. Unfortunately, the billing practices left a really bad taste in our mouths. We were given individual checks, but each check included a suggested tip calculated on the total bill for the entire table, rather than the amount of the individual check. Because we each paid our own check and followed the suggested tip, we essentially tipped three times on the same total bill without realizing it. What is particularly disappointing is that I have emailed and called Baldi multiple times to address this and have received absolutely no response. No one answers the phone, and no one has responded to my email. For a restaurant of this caliber, this is really unacceptable. The food was genuinely fantastic and the service during dinner was great, which makes it even more frustrating that something so easily correctable has been completely ignored. I had been reading about Baldi and with a birthday coming up in three days wanted to try it. We ordered everything Jenn Harris, the LA Times food critic, recommended except the New Zealand Langoustine because it wasn't on the menu. We ordered the sliced artichoke hearts instead along with a couple of martini's. The second course consisted of the La Contadina Salad (which was very light and a nice salad for a hot day), Sweet Corn Tortellini (we talked about this all night), the Chiocciole with Beef Ragu, Sauro's Wife's Mezze Maniche, and the 16-ounce Kansas City Strip Steak. The was shared amongst three people. After all of this we were too full to order dessert but they brought me a nice slice of cheesecake which was very light with a blueberry sauce that we also split. Our server, Valentino, was excellent while everyone on the support staff looked genuinely happy to be there. I enjoyed the decor and it was a nice place to sit and relax and enjoy an excellent dinner. My wife wants to return to Baldi in December for her birthday which is a big deal because she normally doesn't care where we go. I normally take pictures but decided to refrain this time. read more

My friends and I were so excited to try this brand new restaurant Baldi in the Waldorf for my birthday. When you pull up, valet takes your car and it's $15 with validation. You walk into the beautiful hotel and Baldi is immediately to the right. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful with high ceilings and decor. They also have outside seating where I saw the beautiful Elle Fanning dining with her Rollingstone boyfriend Gus. The vibe here was luxurious and lively. There's a bar area too and the co-owner of the Waldorf came to talk with us and told us to come back during happy hour which he said we will love. From my very first step inside everyone from the staff was wishing me a happy birthday which felt really good. Now let's get to the food. Our waiter Omer gave us some recs when asked. If you're expecting the same menu from giorgio baldi or e. baldi, don't...this is a steakhouse so the food is a bit different. We ordered the following: lemon spritz, espresso martini, chicken meatballs, burrata, Piccolo Grand Fritto Misto (calamari), Hamachi Carpaccio, sliced artichoke, Sweet Corn Tortellini, Lobster Linguine, Large Ricotta and Butternut Squash Gnocchi, Thin Filet of Salmon, Chicken Milanese, charred broccolini, and a slice of Cheesecake and slice of Chocolate for dessert. Everything was good, some better than others. My fave was the chicken meatballs, sweet corn tortellini, and butternut squash gnocchi. The artichoke and chicken Milanese leaves a lot to be desired and the hamachi was good but the peppercorn on it threw me off. I had a good time here and I'm excited to come back for happy hour and more nights out with my girls. Last night, I surprised my wife with a birthday dinner at Baldi after making reservations nearly three weeks in advance, and it exceeded every expectation. From the moment we arrived, the hospitality was exceptional. Our server, Jared, truly made my wife's birthday dinner even more special. His knowledge of the menu, attention to detail, and genuine care for our experience were second to none. The food was absolutely outstanding. We enjoyed appetizers, the Kale Caesar Salad, Ribeye Steak, Wagyu, Truffle Mac & Cheese, and Broccolini. Every dish was perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. There wasn't a single item that missed the mark. Beyond the food, the ambiance and decor were incredible. For a few hours, it felt as though we had been transported somewhere far beyond Beverly Hills. The atmosphere was elegant, warm, and memorable. We also had the pleasure of meeting Randy, the General Manager, who was incredibly gracious and welcoming. It's clear that hospitality and guest experience are top priorities for the entire team. First let me say the renovations on this former Jean George are incredible. It's a lovely setting and wonderful ambience. Also all the staff are incredibly professional and helpful. The reason for my rating is the food was just ok and the prices extremely high. I would say the prices are on par with a Michelin establishment but the quality really sub par. The food was tasteless and bland and the wine by the glass selections needs improvement. I will give it another try in a few months as perhaps they can smooth out these issues. read more

Got to join the crew at 3 month old Baldi on their first Monday night service. Never saw this space before its new incarnation but it is currently visually appealing. Booth Tables sit a bit low and tight for big guys like me, but no big deal. Staff were fun and friendly with their presentations. Helpful with suggestions. I tried a Francezco Spritz which was refreshing thoughI was leaning towards the Rabarbo. Starter courses were the Chicken Meatballs, Off Menu suggestion of Melon and Prosciutto, Kale Ceasar and Sweet Corn pasta. Meatballs were very flavorful practically like Thanksgiving Dinner in small bites. Melon salad was sweet and in season. Kale Caesar not too intense, could go stronger on dressing and cheese for me. Sweet corn pasta tasted different than competitors but good. Rather than going all out for wagyu, our trip opted for Rib-eye steaks . Though a Kosher Bone-in premium was offered, I really just wanted to enjoy a proper rib eye. Baldi being Italian fare serves a red sauce and a green sauce with their steaks. Don't want to give away too much details so I'll leave some mystery for your visit as far as their flavor profiles. All need be said they were good for the meat. Steaks arrived beautifully rare. On the side had some charred broccolini and toasted potatoes. The broccolini was a bit soft but not over done. Potatoes were well done, maybe too much for my friends but I liked them for that style. Finished off the meal with the Budino, Apple Pastry a la Mode, and Cheesecake. Nice portions and balanced sweetness. We were 2nd party at quiet opening but the house seemed filled by the time were headed out. With Mondays being limited now for dining out, Baldi will stand out among those still serving. read more

We had the Wagyu Australian Tomahawk steak and the rib eye steak - both were cooked and flavored to absolute perfection. One of our guests said " best steak he's ever had in LA!! " Our delicious sides , asparagus, roasted potatoes and broccolini were perfect. We tried 3 desserts , burnt cheesecake ( beyond description!! ), apple pie with ice cream equally yummy , old fashion banana split! They've just opened. Based on E. Baldi on Canon, I cant wait to try them! They're inside the Waldorf-Astoria next to the Beverly Hilton.

FOOD=5 The meal was truly delicious. The minestrone was delectable. The tagliatelle with mushrooms was sublime. The roasted potatoes with rosemary and sage were spectacular. I could just eat them and be totally satisfied. The cheesecake was very good but not quite as good as it is served at the Belvedere, let alone the Belvedere presentation. SERVICE=5 Olga, my server, was most helpful. Very professional and knowledgeable. All servers were spot on. My water glass was continually refreshed without having to ask. My plates were whisked away when a server noticed I had finished. Top notch service all around. AMBIANCE=1 I love Fleetwood Mac and The Beatles (saw them in '65) but NOT in the signature restaurant of a Five Star hotel, let alone the Waldorf-Astoria. I found the music loud, out of place and even jarring at times. If it weren't for Martin, I may well have left. And I found the décor lacking. The overhead lighting was quite fascinating and, in its way, beautiful. But the open kitchen, to me, is an eye sore, especially in a venue such as this. BOTTOM LINE=It is unlikely I will return and that is ONLY because of the ambiance, most especially the selection and loudness of the music. Thankfully, hosts were able to accommodate us, notwithstanding a special event. Restaurant uses the full space: dining room, bar area, and covered outdoor patio. Service was exceptional. Went Saturday night, date night and wanted to try out the new "Hot Spot". Decor and staff were excellent and very welcoming. Restaurant was very busy, little on the louder side but not horrible. What we had: Chopped Kale Caesar - excellent and fairly large Tuna Carpaccio with caviar - was special of the day, and was very good but for $75 not worth it. Corn Tortellini pasta - excellent 8oz NY steak - excellent Soufflé - not the best I've had and also for $45 def not worth it imo. Overall was very nice dinner and food was good, but a little over priced for certain dishes. I'll be going back for sure to try some other dishes...looking forward to it :). read more

After arriving to the restaurant for a 5PM meal we were walked to a table for four in the very back of the room by an open door with a cutting breeze. We requested to seat on a banquette but were told they were all reserved. Then the manager Martin showed up and said you can have the banquette but only for two hours. WTF ? A time table pressure not good. Then he suggested a banquette on the terrace with heaters which is where we finally sat. It was the most unprofessional handling of hotels and restaurant guests. One greeter even said to us " we get a lot of famous people " if she only knew.... dumb tone deaf remark . It soured the great experience we were looking forward to having. But in all fairness the food mitigated some of the sting of the seating debacle. The Dover sole was disappointingly ill prepared .. thick and tough ?? BTW from our table outside we could see the empty banquette we were turned away from even as we left at 7:40PM To not even attempt to comp a dessert or a glass of wine or any overture to smooth what was obviously an unfortunate first impression was shocking. It was impossible to enjoy the experience-we were eating nonstop just to prevent the food from getting cold.
