The food just average. We tried the fried rice and chicken satay, they're just okay. One thing though, they are very friendly.

A-ok food. Had Thai curry noodles with chicken and add in shrimp. With 20 oz bottle soda it was $11.84. Technically not a service tipping format so price was good considering the food quantity. I was full. Also asked for spicy and got spicy, plus a jar of chili sauce to add even more. Can't complain about sitting on a shaded patio in Old Sac during lunch on a nice day. read more

I really love this small family run operation. I have lunch there regularly and the menu is so vast I doubt I will ever get to try everything. I loved the Stir Fry Chicken Teriyaki until I tried the Seafood Egg Foo Yong, which I still love but then I tried the Vegetable Soup, which is amazing and delicious during cold weather. My vegetarian friends like this place too because Tofu is an option on most of the menu. The outdoor seating is rustic but works well when the tiny dining room is full. Go after 1 PM to avoid the business crowd rush. Don't expect a fancy expensive dining room, do expect wonderful food and great service. read more

I came here a few times because its the only indonesian restaurant in davis-sacramento area. As an indonesian, I know how good indonesian food taste like. I would say that the food from Indo Cafe is okay, not that good. One thing I didnt like was that when I asked the stuff where they got the indonesian ice tea from, the stuff went to the kitchen to ask the owner about it but the owner just ignored it, its prob because she doesn't want the customers to find out where to get it so they can get it from her or whatever but its ridiculous to me. read more

If you like spicy stuff, you have to get the red curry with chicken. They've also got their "gringo" menu (my term not theirs) and a more authentic menu. Definitely go for the more authentic stuff. It's a treat. When this changed ownership a couple years ago they added some new recipes but generally kept things the same, which is awesome. The only thing I miss are the boat plates that used to be part of the charm of this place. That's the only reason it's not 5 stars. Because of my own memories of this place. read more

We came with adults (during a slow-time) and ordered the chicken satay, fried noodle with chicken, fried rice w/vegetable and the Thai curry chicken. My expectations were low considering they're located in a tourist area but everyone really enjoyed the food. The chicken satay was served traditional with peanut sauce that actually tasted like peanut, really good, the best satay sauce I've had. The Thai curry (order it spicy don't miss a chance by ordering mild) is a traditional red burry base used commonly in panang dishes but this is without the basil and coconut milk and it was perfect. It was tasty with the right spice level. The noodle dish was another crowd pleaser, it had nice amount of garlic and flavor. It's run by a husband and wife so I'm sure during rushes, it's impossible for them to keep up so do yourself a favor and try them outside peek hours. read more

We just love this place. I could give it a 5 star rating if we don't consider the place. That's the only letdown. It's small. But the food and the service are great!! I love the mini herb plant in the middle of the restaurant. We love the curry soup, the fried fish dish and the tofu fritters with peanut sauce. This is our go to restaurant since we moved to downtown Sac. Very affordable items on the menu and the Risole is a must if you come down this place. read more

I thought the Lumper was too salty, the rice over-cooked (not firm). We ordered a lot of stuff to taste, the bill was $150+ for six people. If I didn't know what "Dutch Indonesian" food is supposed to taste like, I think this could compare to some Chinese or Thai restaurants. I've been here several times when I visited Sacramento and the food was always delicious. But my visit in May, it seemed it was run by other people, a rude chinese guy and an older guy were taking the orders, I ordered the Chicken Bami noodle dish which tasted very bland which also had very little Chicken but overall, the food was very bland. Let's say, Cup of noodles has more flavor than what I got this time. I sure hope this was just an off day or hopefully the original staff or owners were either on break or vacation. read more

Was looking for something different and found this wonderful place. Menu is fresh and authentic. Brought a party of 17 and they literally let us take over the whole restaurants. Owners are delightful and really cared about our enjoyment. We pretty much had everything on the menu and it was all fantastic. Even the finicky kids in our group loved it. read more

I was in the area a few days ago and decided to visit Old Sac, because I missed the Indo Cafe food so much! To compliment the great food, I also got a GREAT parking spot - right in front of Indo Cafe! Now, I'm not the greatest fan of Indonesian food but I must admit, Indo Cafe hits the spot. I've only visited Old Sacramento a few times in my life but I enjoy Indo Cafe more than any other restaurant in the area. I first enjoyed their food about 5 years back and loved it! I don't like fish or seafood in general, but this restaurant has a great offering of chicken - my favorite. I've tried every dish they offer with chicken in it and love it each and every dish. I can't say one is better than the other, so no matter what you choose, you can't go wrong. One of the reviews on here mentioned on here how spicy the food can be, I honestly love a good spicy challenge and Indo Cafe hits the spot! It's the perfect balance of spicy and taste. Anytime I'm in Old Sacramento, I try and visit here for the spectacular food and great employees - they're very friendly and help you decide what might be of interest to you if you're new the Indonesian food offering as I was. The service is great and as others have already stated, you don't have to wait extremely long for your food. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Old Sac. Apparently, there's a secret 'Indonesian Menu' so I just might need to head back there and see what other dishes I've been missing out on! read more

My favorite is the Soto Ayam. This is chicken soup like you have never had it before. I've been to Indonesia several times, and this is the real deal. The broth is clear and yellow, the taste is spot on! Fresh bean sprouts and a boiled egg atop a mouth watering chicken broth with lemon grass, ginger and other spices I will never know, plus a huge chunk of chicken. The chef is sweet as your own mother, and she is back there making real, homemade Indonesian food. Look people, this is a very, casual place that is run by family. Don't expect red carpet service, and don't expect average Old Sac sappy dappy boring food either. You can get fattening, bland food next door. Come here for flavors and get out of your comfort zone. My little brother recommends the Martabak Telur, which is a crispy dish much like a savory baklava made with egg. Its like a wonton or something. Really good. Their fried chicken is just like back home, different for sure and wonderful. Treat them well and you will become like family. read more

This Place is HORRIBLE! I ordered the Teriyaki Chicken with Rice... The Chicken was small shavings of meat that was dry with a odd flavor that resembled duck meat more than chicken. The rice was a white rice mixed with what seemed to be a can of Peas & Carrots. It was far too expensive for how cheap it tasted. The worst part of the whole ordeal was the Owner! When I told him I was unhappy with my meal, he said " You are the first to complain and I run my business well!" While the ladies that worked there were laughing! I was taken back by his rude behavior. I said I don't want my money back I Just wanted to let you know I was unhappy with my meal. His was waving his hands in my face... so at that point I left. I was extremely disappointed in his behaviorand of the ladies who sat back and laughed it was so disrespectful and unprofessional! This cafe is a really small cafe near the Sacramento train station. When I stepped in, I noticed this is a family owned restaurant by a couple. The old couple were very nice and helpful and I guess his wife is from Indonesia and he is from the states. There are only few tables and chairs so this is not for a large group of people to go to. I order Lumbia spring rolls, Indonesian chicken noodle soup and Laksa soup, all of them are pretty delicious. If you like mild chicken stock with noodles then you will probably go for the chicken noodle soup because it is so fresh and tasty. My boyfriend likes coconut, and I think they put coconut curry into laksa so that would be his favorite. However, the SPRING ROLLS are SOOOOO GOOD!!! We ordered one first then my boyfriend was like oh man this is sooo good we need to order one more, so we ended up order two dishes of spring rolls. I'm Indonesian so I was thrilled to find a place in Sacramento that is both authentic and affordable (I've paid $8 for a plate of krupuk in the past). I'm a vegetarian so I can't vouch for the meat, but the gado gado was perfectly cooked and the nasi uduk (just the rice, not the meal) was amazing. It's a small little place and difficult to sit when they're crowded, but Old Sac is so nice to look at that I had to problem sitting outside. Also, their hours say 11 AM to 8 PM, however they close at 6 PM most days (expect Friday and Saturday I believe). read more
