Baltimore Coffee & Tea is a great little coffee shop hidden just off York Road and situated conveniently right next to a light rail stop. They have lots and lots of coffee you can buy by the bag - lots. They have just as many boxes of tea lining the shelves, so even the most peripheral of tea drinkers can find something they like to take home. Coffee is of course the main attraction, and while you can get it by the bag you come to a coffee shop to get a cup of coffee and maybe hang out for a little bit. From the regulars we spotted there several days in a row, clearly many people come to do just that. They have several interesting coffees ready to go at any time, usually several decaf options, several flavored options, and mysteriously only one or two I would consider "regular"- you know, coffee flavored coffee? Oh well, they were fine. They have some fantastic oatmeal if you're in the mood for breakfast. It can be a little confusing as it comes with certain items and others are offered as extra toppings, but whatever, it's oatmeal. They have several pastries in a case to choose from, which look fancy but are pretty standard flavor-wise. They have several specialty sandwiches they offer which can be made with a choice of bread or wraps, and the combinations they offer make for an interesting sandwich every time. I used to work at this place and to be honest, I really wouldn't want to go to any other coffee shop for coffee - that should say a lot hopefully. I've turned into a coffee connoisseur over the years: Baltimore coffee and tea's coffee has the best body and flavor of ANY coffee shop in the area. This is mainly because they roast the beans right there and the coffee is fresher than anywhere else. Starbucks or dunkin donuts don't even match up or come close. And I didn't even mention the fact that they have the largest selection of coffee roasts and varieties of ANY coffee shop in Baltimore. They are the best and I'm not just saying that because I've worked there. The only other establishment that comes close is Zeke's. But I digress, I'm glad I had the opportunity to work there. I practically live at this place. As a tea drinker, they have a great selection. I also love the smell of coffee and the aroma from this place often travels with me and freshens up my car - it can be pretty strong! First the tea: the right side of the shop is dedicated to tea. Loose leaf and bagged, there is something for everyone. However, most of the staff don't seem that knowledgable about tea, so I generally browse unassisted. I also buy alot of iced tea here and they serve it with a lemon and it tastes good - not like the crap they serve at Starbucks that tastes like chalk. Tea is my vehicle for caffeine, so I'll take it almost anyway, but I prefer fresh brewed with a lemon and a little sugar. As for hot tea, made in-house, it's fine, but they don't really do anything for you other than provide a cup of hot water and you choose your own bag. eh....but like I said, I need my tea. Coffee: the left side of the shop is dedicated to coffee. They have dozens of varieties of coffee beans in bins along the counter. mmm good. They also have 8 types of coffee brewed each day (4 decaf and 4 full-octane), and available for self-serve to the left of the cash register. Note: They roast the beans on site and however they do it, it isn't Starbucks. I know people that hate Starbucks coffee, so if that describes you, this place might be great. I also know a couple of Starbucks loyalists and they claim the coffee here is not as good. Whatever - the aroma here cannot be beat! Food: They serve bagels, sandwiches, and soup that they make to order behind the counter. Pretty good. They also have ready-made selections of wraps and salads in a refrigerated case next to the wall on the right. There are a few tables inside and they have a few newspapers and the Urbanite by the door. The light rail stop is a few steps away. read more

So my Husband and I have become addicted to loose leaf tea and keep finding our selves heading to The Baltimore Coffee and Tea Company. Now my Husband likes your basic green tea and loves the China Sencha Green Tea- Green tea, Long, flat Japanese style leaf (4 oz. Tin $6.40). It has a very clean and fresh taste that is very refreshing. Now as for myself I like flavored teas such as the Peach & Ginger Green Tea- 100% Green tea with bits of Peach & Ginger (4 oz.Tin $5.75). I have tried the Frosty's Favorite Coffee- Flavorful Blend of Cinnamon, & Graham Cracker ($10.76 a lb). I have also have had a few other but can't recall the names. They also serve Breakfast & Lunch, and now have 12 varieties of Italian Gelato. We haven't tried any of the different items on the menu or the gelato but the gelato looks out of this world. The sandwiches are very Maryland themed with such items as the Chesapeake Chicken Pesto and the Camden Club. The coffee here is amazing. The quality and variety of roasts is unmatched. This review doesn't consider that. I am reviewing the shop specifically as a coffee shop, for which it is below average at best. Their specialty drinks are below par, which is a disappointment considering the quality of the brew and espresso. I am writing this review today because I ordered their advertised (via a sign at the front door) iced pumpkin spice latte, which took a batista six minutes to make and was finished off with her sticking her hand in my drink to reduce an excess of ice. If the drink had been great, I would have dealt with it, but the latte had barely a hint of any fall flavor. I come here regularly and always enjoy their drip brews, but am always disappointed by their bar drinks and sparse food offerings. This location is also falling apart, e.g. warped woodwork and layers of dust and cobwebs. The newer Annapolis location that I also frequent at least covers this problem. Stick to the beans and you'll be pleased. read more

Just stopped by for the first time for some afternoon iced coffee with friends. We were incredibly disappointed. We all got iced coffee, and it literally tasted like it was brewed in an ashtray. I don't quite understand why so many coffee shops have terrible iced coffee, but I was really surprised that Baltimore Coffee Co failed miserably too, especially since a cafe I worked at used their beans, and I drink that coffee every morning. On top of that, the place has the overwhelming scent of fake flavored coffee, and it's nauseating. Ugh. read more

Good coffee and espresso. Gelato- not very creamy or flavorful, just OK. Only 3 stars? Because-- I HATE FLAVORED COFFEE!! Coffee, to me, should taste like, well, COFFEE!! Not hazel-vanilla-chocolate-frou-frou-doody or whatever...... Also- their beans sit out in the OPEN AIR! Big, huge no-no, even if they turn over quickly. Beans should always be well protected from oxygen damage; air exposure can quickly turn coffee rancid. And the vast majority of their coffee-for-sale is flavored and exposed. Like coffees shops did in teh 90s- open barrels with scoops and stuff. Otherwise- if you're driving by, it's nice for quick cup of coffee or espresso. read more

I stumbled upon this place while looking for a coffee during a delayed doctor's appointment. I had no idea it existed, but I'm glad I found it. I had the the best bagel of my life here. I know it sounds a little dumb, and I've had them all over the world, but seriously...hands down the most fresh delicious bagel ever. I don't know that they make them, but who we they get them from is amazing. Everything bagel with onion/chive cream cheese should change your life. Great selection of hardware, tea, food, and gifts. What is not to love about this place? The smell as soon as you enter this place is just amazing, fresh coffee beans! We were greeted as soon as we entered. They have something for every coffee lover could ask for, never knew there were so many kinds of beans! They also have a selection of different drinks that you can order and food. We ended up ordering some sandwiches and wow! Fresh, flavorful, and toasted perfectly. We will be coming back here soon to try out some of the different coffee drinks. I have come here a few times after school or on the weekends to grab some coffee for the family or meet people here just to talk over a drink. THe place smells heavenly when you walk in, large open bags of coffee beans create a great aroma throughout the whole store. Its never been too busy when I am here but then again I have never been here on a peak time. I'm more of a tea drinker than I am a coffee person so this place is great for me. They offer loose tea (which is what I prefer) and the place sort of reminds me of Tealuxe in Harvard Square. When you walk in you can get fresh brewed tea or coffee or peruse their wide selection of both for a flavor you would like to take home. They also have a section of tea and coffee accessories. Prices are reasonable and the only thing that I could possibly complain about is the fact that it is a little hidden and in a more industrial-like area (think suburban sprawl). read more

This is by far my home town favorite. I used to live in the area and whenever I visit, I stop here at least three times. If anything to pick up coffee whole bean to take home to drink every morning. One of the best things about this location is, they roast beans right in store. Allowing the normal Guest to see into a key into the process. This place is a gem. They have a great selection of coffee beans. Staff is knowledgeable. They have a roastery on the premises. They also have a good selection of sandwiches. Their loyalty program (punch card) gives you about 10% back. I hope they continue to be there for a 100 years. This is my preferred coffee shop when in Timonium. I usually order simple espresso drinks (americano, latte) no special flavorings. These are good espresso drinks. While we were waiting for our drinks, we sampled a sandwich and immediately ordered one. It was freshly made right in front of us. The espresso was so good, I bought a bag to take for home use in my Keurig. It did not disappoint. One of the times I was there, waiting for my drink, I watched the staff deal with a customer issue. They were sympathetic, and worked with the customer until she was happy. read more

I must have driven by this place a dozen times and never noticed it! Man, have I been missing out. This place is like caffeine heaven! Dozens of flavored, fresh coffee beans that they'll ground up for you, rows upon rows of teas, and other assorted gifts. Plus, it doubles as a cafe. I didn't order any drinks but that Maryland Vegetable Crab Soup was bomber! It really hit the spot after rushing in from the cold, snowy day. My friend did order the brew of the day which was some kind of chocolate, spiced coffee that he really enjoyed. My boyfriend found a few jars of gourmet, flavored honey to buy as a gift for his mom. I wish I had been in the holiday shopping mindset that day because now that I'm back in New York for a few weeks, I know I could knock a few people off my list with those coffees and teas! Aw well! I went here for the first time this past weekend and had a little trouble finding the place since it's more like a business park. I'm guessing that they started out as the plant and then added the store, but I'm glad I found my way because the place is pretty awesome. I didn't go to buy anything, I just wanted to check it out, but I will definitely have to go back. I went with a friend for lunch and a drink and the food was amazing. We both ordered the veggie & cream cheese sandwich (I forgot the name on the chalkboard, Bay something...), but it was delicious. So fresh and almost too pretty to eat. Almost! The coffee was okay, but I'm really used to drinking plain coffee. I was adventurous and tried the Viennese Cinnamon. It was interesting and different than anything I've had before, but I probably won't get it again. Not bad, just not for me. The only downside is that the workers seemed to take a long time to check us out when we just wanted to buy two lollipops when we left. It took a few minutes for someone to ask if we needed help, but then they were friendly. Oh, and the coffee smell lasts a long while on your clothes! read more

To get a cup of coffee...the place is O.K., if not a little pricy (but come on, what coffee place isn't). They do have a wide range of low acid coffee, for those that have acid reflux, this coffee is great. Just ask them and they will let you know which types they are. They have a few food items I am simply in love with. The Crazy Good Oatmeal. If you like oatmeal, you will love this. Oatmeal made with real milk, it comes with coconut flakes, sunflower seeds and sliced almonds in it. You may choose out of four toppings: dried cranberries, raisins, brown sugar and walnuts. I get all four and it is really a crazy good meal. (Big enough for lunch IMO). Then there's the Grapes of Wrap. A tortilla wrap (sometimes the red or green variety) has honey walnut cream cheese, big luscious ripe strawberries, grapes, lettuce and shredded carrots. It is very yummy and delicious. read more

Yay!!! A bright spot in Timonium. My favorite roast: Baltimore Blend -french pressed, it is the perfect breakfast cup, fragrant, non-fussy, with excellent body. My favorite tea: hands down, the Black Raven Tea -black tea flavored with blackcurrant. It's strangely difficult to find blackcurrant tea around, so hurrah, Bmore C&T! All in all, a great place to stop in for local gifts. In my experience the staff are decently prompt with your order, though it can be a bit cramped/confusing up at the counter. A very nifty thing is that the cafe/shop is adjacent to their roasting room and you can take a peak through the glass door at their nifty coffee equipment. It smells heavenly throughout the store and the scent of roasted beans will linger on you for hours after you've left. read more

The coffee smell alone that smacks you in the face upon entering the store is enough to keeping you going all day. But their six or so freshly brewed coffee flavors to choose from are the perfect pick me up on a cool morning. Pair it with their almond croissant and it's sure to be a good day. The countless kinds of tea brands and whole bean coffee flavors are very impressive. With reasonable prices, they make for great gift basket items during the holidays. My biggest complaints about this place are the odd location, difficult parking and I have yet to be thrilled with their sandwiches. (I can distinctly remember a chicken and pesto sandwich which lacked all flavor imaginable.) So, I just make it a point to stick to their coffee and baked goods. read more

Coffee Heaven. Even if you just want a quick cup to go, you have like 4 different caffeinated flavors to choose from (3 or 4 decaf if that's your jam - p.s. WHY?) And beans as far as the eye can see if you want to get some to take home with you. It's in an industrial park-like area, so there's plenty of parking, but that also means there's plenty of people, so if you're looking to order something more than just coffee, you can probably expect a bit of a wait on the weekends because most people seem to be ordering something a little more fancy. Honestly, their drip coffee is really good, so if you're in a hurry, just go with that. There's plenty to look at while if you have to wait for your order though - lots of coffee and tea related accessories, A LOT of tea - many right from Maryland, and even gift baskets that are actually really cute. I think I might pick one up for Christmas. They have food here too, sandwiches and such, which sound delicious, but I haven't had a chance to try that out yet, but I'm hoping to go back soon. read more

This company! Oh my gosh, the customer service gets 5 stars alone! We ordered a ton of tea (10 boxes maybe, we LOVE tea!). UPS totally screwed up my delivery, we NEVER received our order and The Baltimore Coffe & Tea Company was super awesome in ensuring they sent over another box of teas. I love this place and, unlike some of the other reviewers, have had very good luck with the food! First off, the tuna sandwich I had was superb. Second, the soups I've had (tomato/cheddar, and some kind of broccoli/potato/cheesy chowder) were DIVINE. As for the coffee, it's fantastic and the choices are ridiculous. That said, I have had the iced coffee on two occasions and thought it was pretty nasty. I definitely do not do iced coffee here. Currently drinking a cup of creme brulee coffee, brewed from B'More beans, and quite content. Makes the dreary weather a lot more bearable. read more

I buy all of my coffee here. They roast their beans right there and you can taste it in the freshness of the beans. The best part is the free cup of coffee you get with every bag of coffee you buy. You get to try a new flavor every time you go! It's also the perfect place to pick up gifts and stocking stuffers. They have an excellent assortment of hard to find teas and tea and coffee accessories. If I lived in Baltimore, I would get ALL my coffee from this place. Nice selection. Decent taste. Support local business. I also like that they have more than just coffee and tea. You can order a good breakfast sandwich or eat a sub-par pastry (not made by them). Though I would get my coffee here, I would not hang out here. The atmosphere is stale. Not enough tables and the tables they do have feel "fast food restaurant"-ish. It's not like they don't have enough space either. Love the coffee and the service, but the rest flat out sucks. It's difficult to get in and out of because of it's location. The food is horrid, if you're going to sell a pastry or other food product, it should taste like the food it's supposed to be not bland cardboard. The smells are heavenly and inviting! I've had some fabulous sandwiches here, too. I tend to stop by to pick up & take with me, because I don't really love the atmosphere. The few times I have tried to have a casual business coffee or lunch, we have been interrupted by other customers. The same thing doesn't happen at other coffee shops in the area. In terms of atmosphere, this local coffee shop is cozier than a typical Starbucks. The store smells great because of the bags of freshly roasted coffee beans on sale. I think this store has many merits, such as the tasty coffee, the cozy atmosphere, and the wide selection. I am less enthusiastic about their panini offerings. Sometimes, the entire store is filled with a faint, hazy smoke that evidently originates from the panini press. This came as a surprise to the other customers and me, since I was not expecting to encounter food smoke from a coffee shop! I think that many other customers in addition to me would also appreciate not having to breathe in the panini smoke while lounging inside the store. I was also surprised to see strange, black, burnt-looking flecks on a panini once. I presume these flecks on the sandwich came from overcooking or from residue on the panini press. The store would tremendously benefit from replacing their old panini press, which generates irritating smoke and apparently leaves black flecks on customers' sandwiches. I took a look at their panini press and saw that it was quite crusty looking, and in dire need of replacement. In summary: great coffee and atmosphere, but I feel very bothered by their panini press.
