I've been in the Tinley/Oak Forest area for 15 years. I didn't start off at this restaurant but I will certainly finish here. Everything about the food is perfect. Generous portions for the price. Perfect flavor. I really can't express how much I love this place. If Michelin gave stars to Chinese restaurants, this place would have 4. It redefines consistent and delicious. The absolute worst food I have ever had. Spent $30 on food and couldn't even eat it. The rice was mushy, the beef tasted rotten, the orange chicken tasted like bar b que sauce. We threw it all in the garbage and ate cereal for dinner. What a disappointing anniversary dinner. My parents happened across this place and loved it so much, they took me here about a month ago, and I've been back about 4 times since. I've described this place as a micro-Chi Tungs since the space is by far smaller (which is a good thing in my book) and they have one menu with Chinese, Thai, and Japanese treats. Two of my favorites have to be their Tempura Vegetables, which had a delicate crunchy coating while still letting the flavor of the veggies shine through, and their Orange Tofu, which had a spicy-sweet sauce that tasted fresh and homemade but never syrup-y and heavy like so many others I've had before. One of the best parts of my meal was probably one detail that often goes overlooked: the rice. The plain white rice that often accompanies most Asian meals might as well be used to fill small plush toys, but the rice from Bamboo Garden has *gasp!* FLAVOR! Yes, you might actually want to eat the rice that comes with your meal because its fluffy and has a light, earthy flavor that GOOD rice should have. My parents tastes tend to be a bit more mainstream, so they opt for Beef & Broccoli and Shrimp & Pork Fried Rice. I don't think I can even begin to express my sadness that Tony and Lisa aren't the keyholders to this place anymore. The takeover is not bad. We are still ordering once a week- but it's takeout or delivery. I know what town they live in and I swear to you I want to knock on every door in town and beg Lisa to make me a bowl of Eggdrop soup and a piping hot plate of sweet and sour chicken. NO ONE made it like her. I feel almost responsible for not offering to help out there for delivery or as a server so I could keep them around and allow Tony to just go home after work. Yeah, I guess we knew a lot about these former owners, but they were just too cool and provided us with full stomachs two times a week. Like clockwork. The staples at the new places are still good, the soups are nowhere near as good as they were before. The whole thing is that the new takeover isn't necessarily "bad", it's better than most other Chinese restaurants, but it was Lisa's dream to have that restaurant and she cooked like it. My heart sinks when I know I cannot have that same delicious food that I once consumed. The woman that works the front is super sweet and I can definitely appreciate that. My family and I get food here a few times a week. It's honestly the best. I drive past at least 6 Chinese restaurants to get to this one. What I get varies based on if I'm eating meat or not. Lately I'm pretty meatless so I get the veggie lo mein which is packed with veggies. The general Tso is awesome. So is the shrimp Singapore noodle, If you like à dryer curry noodle dish. I'll post pics the next time we go. We used to eat at dragon palace across the street but when they upped the prices we decided to check this place out. Bamboo is a tad more expensive on some stuff. This is your typical neighborhood Chinese restaurant, its typical fare predictable menu, same ole same ole. right down to the obligatory chinese aniamal year place mats. our starters, were a combo plate and they were very good. nice crab rangoon, egg roll, terriyaki beef stick and fried shrimp. I thought nice start to dinner. Perhaps this started to go bad for me when I tried to order the black mushroom Chop Suey (in the pictures) and was told "only have fresh mushrooms, this not china town" so we ordered egg foo young and shrimp fried rice, and they were good. My wife went for the Shrimp Pad Thai, and while it kinda looked like it, it sure was missing some key ingredients. I think the server (maybe the owner) was friendly, however was surprised when i asked for a plate for my dinner, I got the feeling she expected us to use our appetizer plates. My overall opinion prices are fair, food is OK, service is OK and atmosephere fair. different owners, different menu, don't expect anythign like what you'd find in Chinatown. read more

I went to this place since its close to my home, i usually go out to En Lai in Midlothian, IL which is fantastic, but didn't feeling like driving there that day.......so i walked out the first time from Bamboo Garden cause i didn't like the smell in there, its not bad but its something and not sure what..... So i decided to read the reviews, it had really good reviews, so i thought ill try it..........Bad choice....... First the girl at the counter was rude, I tell her what i want and she yells out numbers to me, i looked at her and said what? she repeats the numbers, so i look at the menu and you HAVE to order by the number not "beef chop suey lunch special" Nope remember to order by the number or she will make you repeat the number back to her like you are a kid......Then i pay and she walks away with my card for a minute or so, didn't like that at all, then i get my card back....No thank you, No how long it will take to have the food ready. I get the food home and it was just blah. Honestly, it had no flavor....The beef was thickly chopped and the rest of the food, only way to explain it, no flavor..very strange.........Only good thing is it was edible (still have some in the fridge which i think i will just throw out) and it was hot. That's about the only good thing i can say. I have never had Chinese food from anyplace that did not have any flavor......Egg roll was bad, i have to say, i ate half of it and threw the other half away. I will stick with En Lai in Midlothian where they serve great consistent tasty food each and every time (LOVE their egg rolls) and they don't make you feel like a 6 year old by repeating the numbers. Went on a Saturday night with a party of 8. The owners were great, friendly, talkative, and fun. There was only one other party in the restaurant. The wife cooks and the husband waited on us. The food was fresh and wonderful. Lots of veggies, meats, quality ingrediants. Everyone ordered something different from Pad Thai, to Seasame Chicken, to Curry, plus an aray of appetizers. We sat in the restaurant for close to 3 hours, laughing and talking. The only down side is they do not serve liquor and it is not a BYOB. Now that we have found Bamboo Garden, we will never go anywhere ever again! Where to begin...the food is outstanding. Superb. Optimal quality. Deliciously FRESH, made exactly how you'd like it. The owners are in the process of revamping the menu, but they will pretty much make any dish to your liking. Either by phone or in-person, the chef will personally speak with you regarding your dish if you have any questions. The inside of the restaurant is quaint and comforting. The owners took great care in remodeling and redecorating the place. Bamboo Garden has charm and character that you will not find anywhere else. We usually get our food to-go, and I thoroughly enjoy and look forward to my conversations with the owners when I go in. They are working day and night to provide the best Chinese food in the area, and they truly care about their customers. A great example: they haven't even been advertising. Loved this little Chinese place, thanks to Yelp! My family has our usual Chinese places in the area--Hong Min, Lang Lee's (sad it is closed) Golden Phoenix, and Ing's Palace. We wanted something a little different and that's when I found Bamboo Garden. The owners are very sweet and have a cute son who plays video games while eating his dinner and engaged in fun conversation with us. I was in the area, and decided to try Bamboo Garden out. They have a pretty decent rating, so why not? There's plenty of parking, as the restaurant is in a medium sized shopping mall. I went about an hour after opening, so it was only a few people in there at the time.The cashier was really polite and the service was fast. The prices are reasonable. Great. The food....not so much. I ordered cashew beef, combination fried rice, and egg rolls. The cashew beef was mostly thick gravy, veggies and cashews. A few pieces of beef. Very bland, not flavorful at all. The fried rice had very little meat in it too. It tasted like it was left over from the night before. The egg rolls were small and chewy. I sure would like to know what other reviewers ate because what I ordered was okay at best. I will say that the servings were large though. read more
