My family has gone to bamboo garden since it opened in greenfield ( i believe around 1990) and although there is a lot of competition with where to go for Chinese restaurants, as there are many Chinese restaurants around the greenfield area, me and my family usually pick bamboo garden for a few reasons. Of course, with any restaurant they have problems, but the pros outweigh the cons. Pros- The food is amazing, their sugar biscuits(i believe they are called) are very well made. My favorites that I get there are crystal shrimp, sweet and sour chicken, pink fluff, crab rangoon, and french fries. The service is quite good, the people that work there are very kind, and you are seated right after paying, and can immediately eat. The food hasn't ever been cold, or gone bad when i go to eat, which is to be expected of a restaurant, but still appreciated. And the style, the paintings and music they have in the background makes the restaurant feel peaceful and traditional, overall a lot of good things going for the restaurant. Cons- The biggest problem they have is the selection, there's only about 30 foods you can eat there, which sounds like a lot, but for a Chinese restaurant they should have at least double, and not all of them are good. And the sushi they have is not that good in my opinion, which is not what you'd expect from a Chinese restaurant it has hardly any fish in it, and most of the sushi they have only has 1 thing in it other than rice and seaweed. For 11 bucks you can get a sizable lunch and drink. With limited refills. They kinda do the thing were once they decide you've been there long enough they won't return to your table and refill the drink. The buffet is good. Decent selection. Again for about the same price as Hardee's you can get a decent amount of Chinese Buffet style food. Not where your going to impress a date or co worker. This is a little more compete than your standard Chinese buffet, and, as such, is a little more pricey. But, personally, I think it's worth the price. The food is always hot and doesn't seem to set long before being changed out. The sushi is always fresh and the help is always pleasant, and they're especially good about keeping your drinks refilled. And, I've got to say, it's always spotless, compared to some other Chinese buffets around. While it's not the best food in town, I believe it's above average and is one of our go to places in Greenfield. read more

The place is clean and attractive inside. There are a good amount of choices on the buffet and everything tasted pretty good. Service was fine. Only complaint is that almost all our food was cold. I will be generous and give this place 2 stars. When I walked in with my friends, there were no employees to be found. We stood waiting, asking patrons if they had seen an employee to which a few said "not in a while actually". Someone eventually came out and let us pay so we could sit. Nearly everything on the buffet was low or out. They advertised "Sushi" on the big sign outside but had less than two rolls for us to choose from. As well, there was no one working the grill. I have never seen a lack of service like this at a restaurant before and to top it off, as we were leaving, the employee stopped us at the door and said "service fee??". We paused and said "what? Are you asking for a tip?" he said, "yes. service fee!" The nerve of these people. We noticed the sign on the way out that said they reserved the right to charge for uneaten food. So far I have been coming to this Chinese restaurant since I was in high school. There have been a few times that the ice cream machine would be out of order and they would be low on pie ingredients, but other than that the food has always been exceptional. I can't seem to come in when they have the seafood delights but you have to come in during the busiest hours in order to get the best food. Son and I stopped in during a visit and both of us ranked this in the bottom 20% of Chinese Buffets we have sampled. The place was clean, but the variety of food lacking and not at all fresh. Decent. Lots of options for everyone. The food is pretty typical Chinese American style, with some American buffet choices mixed in. Not amazing or gourmet but certainly not deserving of 1 & 2 star ratings, especially considering its a Chinese buffet in a small town Indiana. I wouldn't drive out of my way to go here, but its very close to area hotels. Quite a few fish & shrimp options that were really quite tasty. Lots of veggies, salad, and fruit options too. The salad bar included traditional American broccoli salad & tomato/cucumber/onion salad when I visited. It also had fresh melons (in season), bananas in a red syrup, & plenty of canned fruit (mandarin oranges, peaches, pineapple). I don't typically go to buffets, but I've found its quite common to pre-pay. I'm not really sure what's the objection to that. If you had a big appetite or kids to feed, I think this could be an economical choice. read more

Two stars is generous. I came in and found it refreshing that they asked you to pay first, since that means you can get out and moving and not have to wait around forever for a waiter/waitress. Receipts are stamped with a stamp that doesn't say "thank you, come again!" but with one that says "Does not include gratuity!" So you're an asshole if you don't tip the incompetent staff. I came at a busy time, a short walk from the motel I stayed at, at about 7pm. Like many other Chinese buffets, timing is everything here. And since this was a busy time, I shudder to think what the food was like during a dead hour. I was pleased with some of the variety offered - lettuce wraps. The lettuce itself had gone bad. But the filling by itself was okay. The general tso's chicken was drenched in an unfortunate sauce that tasted old, as if it had been sitting there forever. And the chicken had drowned in this sauce, like it maybe could have been okay if it weren't entombed in this gross sauce. The chicken with broccoli was also terribly underwhelming. I wouldn't recommend this if you're just passing through the area as I was. As much as it pains me to say this, you'd probably be happier with a chain. read more

The wife and I go there a lot and the worst thing I can say is the closer to closing time the food the food is a little dry but that's only close to when they close . the staff is always friendly and prompt to clean our dirty dishes off the table. It started off bad. After waiting 5 minutes at the register and seeing no one I said Hello in a loud voice and after another minute a young lady came to take our money. This buffet is very overpriced. I asked if there was a senior discount and she said yes and I was charged $14.59 which included the drink price of $1.99. She rubberstamped the receipt and it said: Gratuity Not Included. For the price it sure should have been. There were only 2 islands of warm mediocre food and one island with 3 desserts as well as a soft serve ice cream machine. The Crab Rangoon was good as was the Brown Rice. The General Tso's (Which is my favorite anywhere else) was bland and very very chewy. Most everything tasted like it had been warmed up too many times. You have been warned. Perhaps it may be better at a different time, it was 3PM when we were there. But I will never return to take the chance. Very disappointed in this buffet. read more

Food is decent if it's made fresh. Don't go if there is no one in parking lot because food will not be made fresh. Also check your receipt if you have children, this has happened EVERY time we come in, they charge us for children an age older than what we tell them. Don't really recommend this place anymore. If there is a choice for no star, I would do so. The buffet doesn't look fresh so I wanted to order off carry-out Manu to cook it fresh. $11 for stir fried rice and hot sour soup. I told them I will eat in the store. 30 minutes later, no food. Asking them and was told they can't sell take-out to be eaten in store. I said you could have told me 30 minutes ago. I have been sitting there all this time, no one asked. I am now eating in Wasabi and just realize that I was so mad leaving the place that I didn't ask for refund. This is the go-to place for feeding large numbers of hungry young people! The staff is young and earnest. The facility is clean. The food is fresh if the Chinese options are limited. (Some little ones want pizza, period.) Vegetarians will be satisfied with both the hot and cold offerings. If you like American Chinese, this place is for you. It is extremely competitive priced for what you get, Try the "crystal shrimp" or the crab ragon, it is so good. This is by far our favorite Chinese restaurant. I will put it up against the high priced ones in DC, Indy, or any other place even though it is a buffet, food is kept fresh, and brought out in small portions to keep it that way. They have multiple types of shrimp, fish, beef, pork, chicken. they have a Mongolian grill, so you can fix it exactly the way you want it. Really good sushi (according to my wife), and many more items. I give it 5 stars because I really don't have anything to complain about. As someone who is used to the Hibachi Grill in Anderson, this really gave me hope again for Chinese-style buffets. The restaurant was very nice and clean, it had a friendly staff, there was a wide range of delicious food (including sushi which is a plus for me), and the food was restocked regularly. Even when me and my friends were pushing two hours on being at the restaurant, they still came and refilled our drinks. We liked Bamboo Gardens when we first came to Greenfield in 2005. Since then we've seen a loss in quality and quantity on the buffet. One thing which really gripes my kids, who have sworn off the place, is the lack of refills on drinks AND the way the receipt was shoved onto their table long before they'd finished their dinner and their visit with each other, primary reason for visiting. He also doesn't really speak English and there is very little flavor so make sure to add your own! I find the few options they have for the Mongolian grill are also poorly restocked.
