    To make their signature soup
    Benny C.

Great local restaurant that I used to go to every week for family dinners. I haven't been here for over 20 years, but since it was recently rated as the top Cantonese restaurant in Vancouver, I decided to go back and give it a try. Aside from their signature dishes everything else is overpriced and average. They cater mostly to mainland Chinese customers and give them great service, but for everyone else you have to really get your servers' attention!

ts just so BAD! The second dish came sososo slow after the soup and its a wrong dish that we didnt order at all. The prawn and eggplant was fair good. The veggie was so hard to bite. The chicken was not well cooked and very salty. The private room right by our table is so smoky! If they allow guests smoking in the restaurant, they should separate the room into smoking and nonsmoking area. No one asked us about that. Anyway, its a very very bad experience eating there. And the awarded dishes are not neither that good. Soup, prawn and eggplant, chicken, a mushroom something, over $100. No worth of it. never come back.

My husband and I came here for a dinner wedding reception. We had the whole back of the restaurant reserved for our party. While I do realize there were about 50 of us in our party, I felt like the dishes came out rather slowly. The servers also didn't refill our waters and wine glasses in a timely manner so we ended up having to ask every time we needed a refill (after we would wait 10+ minutes for them to do so). Overall, the food was delicious but the service was not the best.

A must-try when visiting Vancouver!…read more HK BBQ Master is definitely one of the most popular spots for Hong Kong-style BBQ in Richmond. We arrived before opening and there was already a long line! Whether it's dine-in or takeout, the place was packed with people. The dining area is relatively small, so seating can be limited, but the BBQ is absolutely worth the wait. The roast duck and BBQ pork were both incredibly delicious! The roast duck was flavorful and juicy, while the BBQ pork was tender, savory, and perfectly seasoned. Both were so good with rice and seriously addictive, the kind of food that makes you want an extra bowl of rice! Now I totally understand why this place is so popular. If you're visiting Vancouver and love Hong Kong-style BBQ, definitely put HK BBQ Master on your food list!

HK BBQ Master - name checks out…read more Our group arrived on a weekend night, and the wait was ~ 15 minutes. While there was about an hour left in the day, the duck was sold out... kind of. So, our group ended up ordering the BBQ pork, and roast pork. Everything tasted great, and there is also extra sauce for rice, if desired. One thing to note that are standard at some good spots is that service might be rude, and our hostess and servers were no different. On the topic of "kind of" sold out duck... we later learned after being sat that there was suddenly duck available... but there was no way to order this. Outside of the BBQ meat, we also had soup, and it was very tasty - the pull-apart pork especially. One unforgettable part of the evening was that the servers gave our group attitude for not ordering one full meal per person at the table. Even judging by pictures, the size of one meal is quite large, enough to comfortably feed two. (We saw several parties walk out with takeaways...) Perhaps this is why they kept giving our table attitude, though.

Our group ordered so many delicious items, and some standouts were: Shrimp Har Gao: These were crisp and tasty, with a skin that was the appropriate thickness - and of course had enough slip to it. Yum! Pork Shu Mai: These ingredients were tip top! I'm not a fan of pork, but I enjoyed this one... whatever they marinated it in was amazing. Stuffed Eggplant: Tasty, too! I love eggplant, especially the stuffed ones. The sauce paired very well and was simply satisfying. Mushroom Noodles: This was honestly a hot mess and hot miss. It tasted very bland like airplane food... highly recommend not ordering this! Cheung Fun - The rice noodle was crisp and very satisfying. Whether an oil stick or protein, highly recommend this one. What's nice is eating here was very relaxing late in the afternoon. The overall ambiance is spacious and quiet enough for conversation. Either we got lucky missing out on the liveliness, or all the aunties with tea left before we arrived. Overall, I could see myself coming back for the dim sum... but have a little more reservation (no pun intended) when trying their lunch items.

The beef noodle broth is flavorful and the congee definitely comforted my soul. The items listed in D are always a miss. We have tried all items and none of them was delicious. For example, the steamed rice rolls were very doughy. Other times, they were very dry. The items in D sometimes felt like they're frozen dim sum items sold at grocery stores. Service is a hit or miss depending on which server you get. Sometimes you get servers who come and refill tea and provides actual service. Portion sizes and price point felt standard for Richmond. I thought it was cute that they also put the teapots on a candle stand to keep it warm. For 5 people, the total cost with tip was around $40 per person. Unfortunately, the only thing that fell short was the long wait we had to endure despite having made a reservation. We booked a reservation for 12:45pm, but because of the overwhelming weekend rush, we were not sat until 1:30pm. I understand that the restaurant was quite busy, but it certainly made the experience a little less enjoyable. There were also lots of people waiting in the area and the hostess found it hard to identify which groups were waiting and which had already checked in. I'm not sure if I'd return as there are so many other great dimsum places in Richmond that may not cost as much of a wait.
