Went to Bambu Asian Cuisine because of all the good reviews on Google and on Yelp. Upon arrival, we were greeted nicely and seated at our table immediately, however noticed that the atmosphere didn't exactly match the pricing on their menu. Everything was sort of run down and old, they definitely need some finishing work/paint and some updated furniture. I ordered springs rolls as an appetizer, they were very small for the price, especially compared to where I typically go. I ordered Jungle Curry for my entree and what was brought out to me was anything BUT a curry. It was very watery. Really, it was a soup. The broth had not been reduced at all. On top of that, the broth tasted like an old dish rag. So, I flagged down the waitress and explained to her that this dish was not a curry and was not enjoyable, that I wanted a different dish. I'm not sure of this young lady's name but she became very confrontational with a paying customer and began arguing with me over what a curry is. I gladly explained to her that the dish I was served was a soup and not curry; to which, she argued that's how it turns out when there's no coconut milk in the curry.. Also, that I should have asked about it since I'd never had it before. WHAT?! Needless to say, things got pretty heated but, thankfully, the person I was with stepped in when they saw things were escalating between the waitress and I. Whether you agree or disagree, the point in my even writing this review is to express my dismay being argued with AS THE CUSTOMER. This was absolutely the worst service and food I've ever eaten at a Thai food restaurant and will likely never visit this establishment again. I was not impressed. So unimpressed that I can't give them a second chance as of right now. 1. Pad Thai was too sweet, not enough veggies,can't remember eating an egg, & they forgot the peanuts! It was edible. Annie's boxed Pad Thai is better than this. 2.Fried Spring Rolls was pathetic! A sprinkle of filling and all crispy fried wrapper. 3.Fried Quail was just fried quail and no flavor. I was expecting a little bit of anise or some kind of seasoning, but bleh... 4. Portion size was small for the price. 5. The service, decor, and cleanliness was fine I was craving Thai Food and this place did not satisfy my cravings Sorry for the bad rating. I've had the pleasure of eating at Bambu on two or three occasions now. I have to say the flavors are outstanding. The Esan Beef Jerky appetizer is now my favorite and there is a Catfish dish on their dinner menu I forget the name of that is simply perfect. I ordered "3" spicy and it comes with rice. Lots of catfish in the dish with the perfect crispness. I went with a couple of friends to chat and we could easily hear each other talk. Above average service & nice ambiance. Used to be one of my favorites.. they have however raised the prices a few times the past few years for both lunch and dinner, not a huge deal if i were a new patron except i was used to the more reasonable prices. They have removed the free spring roll w/lunch, and no longer add spice as requested but rather can bring it with your meal "on the side". Not worth the hassle when plenty of other thai restaurants around will add it for you.. Will not be frequenting as much anymore considering the competition around this area. read more

We have been going to Bambu almost since it opened, and it just keeps getting better. Bambu is a Thai restaurant, with an extensive menu of traditional dishes, but what makes it exceptional is the selection of dishes from the Isan region of Thailand. A blackboard features the special dishes, which may be appetizers or entrees. Everything is fresh and delicious, seasoned to taste, with fresh Herbs and peppers from the chefs garden. Service is friendly, and after a visit or two, you feel like part of the family. Don't miss the Moo Yang, a delicious dish of charcoal roasted pork, served with, sticky rice, lettuce, and a fabulous dipping sauce. Good wines, and desserts too. Very family friendly. read more

When we came in for lunch there was no one else there. The man who seated us wasn't very friendly and no one came to get our drink order for almost 10 minutes even though we were the only customers. Our food (pad ki mao with tofu) came out fast but was HORRIBLY dry. The tofu was so dry it was hard to chew and tasted stale. The noodles were also dry and clumpy. Bambu has the best Thai food in Dallas!! One of my favorite dishes of all time is the Crying Tiger Beef. Bambu and Sushi Rock are owned by the same family. My husband and I have been eating at Bambu since they opened in 2010 and their food has been consistently excellent. This is the worst Thai restaurant that I've ever been to. The food is overpriced and the taste of the food is awful! I ordered the papaya salad, panang curry, and pad kee mow. Can you believe it, when they brought the papaya salad to my table, I thought they made a mistake in taking order. The dish was full of carrot, just a little bit of papaya was in there. I asked the waiter if it was really papaya salad or it was carrot salad? The waiter said: "It's papaya salad, but I don't know what the chef did with it." The panang curry and pad kee mow were extremely salty. The chicken in the pad ke mow was firm and tasteless. I would never go there again! read more

*there is no place like home* and that is the first feeling I get when I walk in here. from the food to environment to service. everything reminds me of home. it's a small 13 table restaurant. the table is small but then the restaurants itself is tiny. it does get busy over the weekend so do call in and make reservation if you have time! for me to give a Thai restaurant five star they have to be absolutely perfect because I HATE Thai food. and this restaurant is! most of the items are home made at the restaurant. such as the steam dumplings, crispy spring roll, fresh summer roll and beef jerky. which is really rare to find in a lot of places these days consider everything is store bought. after trying most items from the menu I have to go to basil fried rice as my personal favorite. I use to think why would I ever go to a restaurant and order something I can make at home. well this place certainly proved me wrong. the best fried rice I have ever had. and it is worth every single penny. they do give you the option to choose your own meat. and additional charges for shrimp and seafood. and the spicy level(scale 1-5). which is always a plus. always look out for special items on the board! it changes weekly and items come and go like the spicy tuna rice cake! they also have a great selection of wine and mix drinks. they sell by bottle and by glass. as for service. it really just depends on who is working. Roger by far is the fastest nicest server in there. he will make sure you get your drinks and orders as soon as possible. however if it gets busy and orders get backed up you really can't complain and say they are slow. they are doing as much as they can to cook your food. the owners are extremely nice and friendly. Shelly loves talking to her customer and Jason always make sure everything is to their liking. they really know how to run a business! would I come back? of course I would. and I would recommend this place to anyone! read more

Go somewhere else!! It is not Authentic Thai food. I ordered Pad Kee Mao Beef. What I have on my dish was three HUGE piece of lettuces, two chunks of tomatoes, beef, and broken small piece of noodle. It did not come with Thai Basil (Ka pow) and No flavor at all. It does not look like a picture on Yelp. The second dish is grill pork. It is too much fat and very hard. The sauce is awful no flavor like the water mix with oil. Very disappoint. I am Thai. I never see food like this and very hard to eat. If you like Authentic Thai food, Do NOT go there. read more

This modern chic Thai spot brings the Esan or Isan style of Thai food to North Dallas which isn't your run of the mill Thai cuisine. You've heard it from me a San Francisco resident where fancy Thai is supreme that Bambu has some top notch delights and deserves every nice comment that they've been given. For appetizers I recommend: --Claims Basil, These tender little guys get steamed in a lemongrass, garlic, basil, and coconut milk broth that uses very delicate flavors to highlight the clams. --Catfish salad, a very fresh tasting salad and attention garlic lovers the sauce on the side is very strong. For the rest of you, definitely try it lightly at first and make sure your date is sharing. For entrees I recommend: --Esan Sausage, First off it is their grandmother's recipe so you know its special. For us this dish's complex mix of flavors really stole the show. While eating the Esan sauasage we were instructed to place the sausage in our hands and stack it with thin fresh slices of onion, ginger, thai chili, and a peanut. Then with a flip of the wrist you find yourself in a blissful state of bitter-sweet spice with smokey undertones. Mmmmmm that's the sound of your umami sense getting a massage. --Pad Suki, stir fried glass noodles that are much smaller and delicate than your average stir fry noodle. These are served in a Suki sauce which hits your palate with layers upon layers of well balanced Thai spices. --Pad Thai, perfectly cooked noodles that have a flavorful sweet tamarind sauce sprinkled with crushed peanuts. This most common Thai dish is worthy of anyone that wants to endulge in a balance of tart/sweet flavors and for anyone just looking to play it safe. While the food was of course amazing the service was impeccable too, always attentive and welcoming. One of my favorite Thai restaurants along with Thai Star. I am surprised that I forgot to chip in on a review. I have been here many times and also done take outs. The food is consistently good and the service is very prompt. The place feel so warm and cozy with a few ethnic decor. I love the Buddha statue they have near the entrance. I am a big fan of their Basil Fried rice - the combo of sauces, crunchy veggies, egg and the cooked rice is so perfect every time, nothing soggy or over cooked. Their curries are also good and light, not over powering, specifically like their Chilean Sea Bass with green curry. Highly recommend this place if you crave Thai food while you are around this area. read more

I'm sorry to report that this restaurant is a joke compared to Si Lom. I went here just last night and EVERYTHING was half as good as at Si Lom. I wish I was joking because I drove an extra 30 minutes to Bambu and it was a total disapointment. They are using crushed red pepper instead of habanero, using walmart mushrooms instead of fresh wild mushrooms. At bambu in my Tom Kha Gai there were raw pieces of ginger and crap I couldn't even chew through! They have a $13 catfish dish that has no catfish in it, it's merely the crust scaped off of a deep fried catfish (thats all i can figure it was). I was told Bambu was the pinnacle of asian food and if that is true then move over because Si Lom is now king. All hail. lol It seemed to me that only the Pad See Eew was good.. All 5 other dishes were disapointment and we won't be back ever again. Why would you go back when a place like Si Lom exists that is a little cheaper, better food, better atmosphere better everything! PLEASE listen to me and do yourself a favor. Placed a carry out order from my work, for over $150. Food portions too small and flavor isn't all that great, most horrible service, they missed one of the order that we paid for and when called about it, kept arguing over it and hung up the phone. Even when the person went to pick up order, the cashier wouldn't let her pay individually and gave her a very hard time. They lost a big time business and would care less about it. My husband and I met friends there on a Saturday evening. The restaurant was empty except for a table of what seemed like people who worked there and/or their friends/family. We were taken care of promptly as to drink orders but after that we only saw the waiter when he took our food orders and then again when we were done as they were all busy socializing with each other. We were still the only customers in there through the entire meal. Fortunately there was someone else there whose sole purpose seemed to be to refill water glasses. My husband and I started with the fried quail apetizer. It was rather tasty but the promised Siracha hot sauce dip seemed to lack any heat. My husband then ordered the ginger beef and I got the Crying Tiger Beef with sticky rice. We both ordered it medium spicy, which usually is fairly hot everywhere else, but was almost non-existent at this place. One of our friends ordered her dish "light me up" but she said it wasn't very spicy either. Reading all the other reviews that mention the overall lack of heat I guess they just don't think we can handle it. Though the food was flavorful it was nothing to write home about. The overwhelming flavor in the ginger beef wasn't ginger but garlic. The Crying Tiger Beef was lovely but nothing more than steak strips with a nice and flavorful herb dipping sauce. Definitely overpriced for what we got. This place was highly recommended by a friend who should know better. There was nothing wrong with the food....it just didn't leave any of us at the table oohing or ahhing. Overall a big.....meh. I don't even think I'd stop in again if we were in that area as there are so many other reasonably priced Thai restaurants to choose from. read more

I went to this restaurant based on the rave revues of Leslie Brenner, Dallas Morning News restaurant critic, who asserted that "... Bambu isn't just the best Thai restaurant in North Texas, it's one of the best restaurants in North Texas, period." And she gave it FOUR STARS, almost unheard of! I noticed when I sat down that there was nothing on the table, except a fork and a silver soup spoon wrapped in a black (cloth) napkin. No tablecloth, no place mat, no salt and pepper, no soy sauce, no hot sauce, no sweet sauce, no sugar or sweeteners, no chopsticks, no flowers, no water glass, no extra napkins. Thought that a bit minimalist (cheap?), as is the decor of the restaurant itself, which is very small, no carpet, kind of a very clean, contemporary, glorified hole-in-the-wall. With a big-screen TV hanging from the ceiling blaring CNN. ("She gave this four stars?" I wondered. "With a one-star ambience??") In some Dallas Thai restaurants, I feel I'm in an elegant restaurant, not a glorified, neighborhood hole-in-the-wall. But, whatever. I am a vegetarian and decided to order the most well-known Thai dish, Pad Thai, with tofu. I was excited at the thought of Pad Thai made in a 4-star restaurant. I have eaten this dish a gazillion times in a gazillion different restaurants all over the country. If they did a good job with this, I couldn't wait to come back and order more exotic fare. The waiter very quickly took my order, then quickly disappeared. I had to wave him to come back before the dish was served, after he had gallivanted away after taking my order, so I could request of him to make sure the tofu was firm, not mushy (which is how it is occasionally made in other Thai restaurants). My first impression of what was served was that it had been mistakenly served on a lunch-sized plate, and that the portion didn't even take up most of that plate, that it was way skimpier than what is usually served, and that there were no crushed peanuts on top, which is also standard for this dish. I waved the waiter back and asked whether this was the lunch-sized portion, as he had given me a menu that included lunch, and he assured me that no, it was their dinner-sized. No apology, no offer to add a little more to what looked to me like a child's portion. Oooo-k. Well, I thought, if it tastes great, that will make up for the rest. My request that the tofu be firm was accomplished. However, the tamarind sauce-- which is what makes or breaks the dish-- was tasteless, bland, and not sweet at all. He had asked me how spicy I had wanted it, on a scale of 1 to 5, and I had said 3. It was a -1. I had to embarrassingly wave him back still another time, this time to request soy sauce and hot sauce. I also requested crushed peanuts, to at least add some flavor. I was shocked that the soy sauce he brought me not only was in a commercial bottle, but said, "low-salt, low-sodium" on the label. I had to wave him back again and politely request that he bring me full-strength soy sauce, if they had some (!) I was further shocked when he replied that the soy sauce that was in the bottle he had served me was not really what was on the label, that they "...liked the look of the green color of the plastic top on the low-salt bottle, so we put regular soy sauce in it." I was stunned. I thought he might be joking and asked for clarification: "You mean that what is in this bottle is not what is on the label, that you switched out something else with it, instead??" He acknowledged that, yes, I was correct. THAT IS PROBABLY ILLEGAL! Not to mention that someone on a low-sodium diet might inadvertently use what was actually industrial-strength soy sauce, thinking it was "low-salt," as was labeled. I was getting nervous. I asked him to please show me a bottle with the correct label for what he had actually served me. I am allergic to some food additives, especially MSG. He brought out a large bottle. Often times at an Asian restaurant, they may say they don't use MSG because they don't cook with it, but their commercial soy sauce may contain it. I checked the label. There was no MSG, although the sauce did contain PRESERVATIVES, including sodium benzoate. At a FOUR-STAR restaurant.. This family owned and operated spot serves up flavorful and hearty (yet refined) Thai dishes. Lots of great seafood dishes, and their use of lemongrass and basil are a welcome addition to any menu. Have been for lunch and dinner, and can honestly say that they know their stuff. The effort put forth by the very personable owners is a treat, and really shows that they care about the restaurant and their customers. My only criticism would be that our table was not wiped down once throughout the entire meal. Given that we were eating family style, there was some incidental spilling of sauces, rice, etc, and it would have been have been nice for the servers to wipe it down between courses. That said, the bottom line is that I'm a fan, and plan on returning for many tasty meals going forward! read more

After trying some of the other Thai restaurants in the area, I was skeptical about this newcomer and how it would measure up. It was fabulous. Best Thai food in Dallas, hands down. It is a family run operation, with a classic Thai menu and some more authentic items on the "special menu", We ordered off of both, and everything we ordered was fresh, well prepared and nicely presented. The service was very attentive and offered advice when asked. These people are going beyond the call and they just need to get the word out. This place is awesome, and this part of North Dallas/West Richardson needs to embrace a place of this quality. read more

Good but not amazing. The fried quail was the best thing we had. The thai tea was weak and not very creamy. The pad see eww was very nice and not overly sweet. I enjoyed the esan jerky but it came with like this sweet and sour sauce and not the shiracha sauce as advertised. Portions were very small to somewhat generous. The papaya salad was just bad. Overpriced, small and 50% carrots. So basically kind a rip off. Definitely recommend the that fried quail. That was very good. So yeah I kind of want to try it again but for the price for lunch I feel there are much better options. read more

My boss and I are travelling on business and stumbled upon this wonderful gem of a restaurant. The food is prepared from fresh ingredients, flavors well balanced, an a nice modern casual aesthetic. I had the special crab thai fried rice and it was phenominal. The service was good ad the owner even came out a few times to check on us and explain the flavor profile of one of the dishes. I appreciate well prepared food by people who have a passion for it, and bambu clearly meets that description. We will definitely have to make this a regular place when we visit Dallas. read more

I cannot give this place enough stars. We recently moved up to Far North Dallas from Uptown and were looking for some good Thai places. Thai Soon was good, but the atmosphere was so blah. This place is AMAZING. This meal was honestly one of the best meals I have had in some time - everything was fresh and tasted amazing! I had the pad thai with beef and my husband had the ginger beef. The service was courteous and quick, especially for a Friday night. And the prices were great - both entrees were $9. Very worth it! My new favorite spot! read more
