This is a Café we found by accident on the way to Pike Place Market. Definitely a cafe for the local and not for the tourists. I had the Caramel Latte and it was so perfect for the Seattle weather. They have a few large interesting art pieces about Cat at war. After chatting with the barista, I learned the owner has a cat who is that character his artist friend paint and put it on the wall. Came here with my partner to meet a friend and her family. At first, I was concerned there might not be room for our group of six, but there is one large table that can accommodate 8 people. You order at the front and the staff brings the food to you. We had the bagel sandwiches and breakfast burritos, and there wasn't a scrap left on any of our plates. We had brewed coffee which was strong and flavorful, and the girls had hot chocolate that looked delicious. I love the set-up-low key, casual but fast and delicious goods. 1st Time here, my husband ordered The Bang Bang Burrito & I ordered The Green Chili Burrito, and the sauce was SUPER HOT/SPICY!!! I submitted a complaint because my husband's and my tongue were on fire and we could no longer finish our food. But, all they said was is that is due to the sauce (duh!) and that everyday is different because the chilies varies. And, then she tells me, yeah, someone else complaint too. I told them that I understand about the chilies they vary in taste, but if you're selling food and as you prepare & taste it you would know the sauce is too hot for the day, and maybe with a chalk you should place the three letter words HOT right next to your chalkboard menu. There's a reason you only ever seem to see rant or rave reviews on the internet - it's just not as fun to tell the world that a place didn't leave much of an impression on you. I love New Mexican food and was super excited to have a chance to visit this place for a weekend breakfast so I bookmarked it for review, but now I'm here to report that I had exactly a medium experience. I do not relish this. The food itself was decent. Everyone in my group ordered the vegan breakfast burrito (we didn't even coordinate, we're all just tragically stereotypical millennials) and we agreed that the soy chorizo was the highlight. The chile comes Christmas by default and both sauces are tasty, but not nearly as spicy as they would be in New Mexico, so this is still a safe pick if the word "chile" intimidates you. The burrito was otherwise a pretty straightforward veggie burrito - I kind of wish it included tofu scramble or some other plant protein aside from the chorizo to make it a little more breakfasty. As other reviewers have said, this place is absolutely about 30% too expensive for what it is, which is a counter serve cafe that serves food on paper plates with compostable utensils. One burrito with nothing extra and a latte ran me close to $20, which is not a whole lot less than what one might pay for a nice sit down brunch (including at this place's sister restaurant, Cafe Pettirosso, which I absolutely do recommend). There are also probably too many tables in this tiny little space, making it unpleasantly loud and crowded. I'd still really like to try the other location in Othello for more Hatch chile centric dishes, but I don't think I'll go out of my way to come back here. read more

Bang Bang is definitely one of the better breakfast cafés in Seattle. They feature a couple vegan specialities including Mac and cheese and a breakfast burrito that is a real power meal if you're looking to fill up before you head out into the streets. You can get it to go too if you want to try your luck at a local park, but the street view here is pretty great on any given day. The service is super quick, and I was able to start digging into my burrito before I had realized it was in front of me. The flavors are wonderful, and the sauces definitely give it an extra kick of spice and flavor that won't melt your face off but will leave you with a bit of a tingling sensation if you're like me and couldn't stop eating it. On this latest trip I didn't have any beverages, but they have numerous adult options to choose from. I would recommend them all. As Seattle ages this is definitely on the radar of places that may not survive the next economic culling by our corporate masters, so head down there and enjoy one of the best breakfast cafes in Seattle before you're telling the latest wave of immigrants how you used to get bomb vegan Mac and cheese and breakfast burritos back in the day before the neighborhood went to hell. First of all, how can you not grin a little at the name of this neighborhood café? It was about a block away from the Edgewater Hotel, where me and my colleagues were staying for a work retreat. I met my brother to have breakfast around 8AM at Bang Bang, and I'm so glad we picked this place. The manager greeted me as I walked in, and enthusiastically answered all my questions about the menu. While it was very early, I felt paralyzed that there was vegan mac and cheese on the menu and I was leaving Seattle that same day. Would it be ok to have vegan mac and cheese... for BREAKFAST? It was not even a passable time for brunch. While waiting for my brother, I chatted with the manager about his experience as a barista, and I loved his attitude and passion. I love the effort to keep up neighborhood coffee shop vibes in Seattle, and I'm glad we could patronize a local establishment. I decided on the veggie breakfast burrito sans tortilla (aka in a bowl) and a side of the mac and cheese. I'm so glad I tried it. Great vegan options! Love Shawn's Mac and Cheese and all of the vegan desserts and pastries. Read they were dog friendly in past reviews and while they were courteous about me bringing my very small dog, when I asked if she could be inside while I ate they said no. Makes sense, seems those are the rules everywhere. Maybe if I hadn't asked they would have looked the other way! They do have a couple outdoor tables so if the weather is nice, dogs are still in luck. read more

Great Vegan Mac & Cheese? Darn Tootin! SITREP I came here based mainly on the recommendation of my yelp buddy Thrill Kill (aka TKiller Seattle). While we were in Vegas during the Yelp Convention back in May 2012, he shared with me a number of his memorable restaurant stops in our dear Seattle. Bang Bang Cafe stuck in my mind if just for the sheer cacophony of it's name (and because I couldn't get the song & lyrical line "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" out of my head). THE SETUP Thrill had recommended the Harvest Breakfast Burrito which was gonna be my choice. But instead, I was distracted by the delicious Chipolte Vegan Mac & Cheese offering. It was cheesy smoky goodness! (They also have the regular Vegan Mac & Cheese option as well). VEGAN FRIENDLY And this brings me to the next point - since I was quite surprised - because it had apparently not caught my attention until I was already seated and ordered - that this is a vegetarian & vegan friendly restaurant and so all the offerings were quite healthy and delicious to boot. From the Vegan Chili bowls to the Vegetarian BLTs, this place has great Vegan options of your favorite foods. Finally made it to the Bang Bang! I see why there is much hype about this place. Friendly staff, cute location and tasty vittles! Went with the Bang bang burrito ($6.35) which had both the red and green chile sauce on a burrito filled with potatoes, scrambled eggs and cheese. It was good but I should have ordered it with the turkey sausage and maybe an extra side of the chile sauces. Just a hint of heat with the sauce and great homemade flavor. Of note is the vegan mac and cheese! No, I have not converted to veganism. I still dig on the swine and other tasty critters and critter products. You could have totally fooled me that this mac and cheese was without all the things that make mac and cheese so great (uh...real cream, real butter?) what they use to make it vegan friendly must be a trade secret. The red sauce had decent spice but was something I would expect more from an enchilada, not a breakfast burrito. I would have preferred a fresh salsa. Adding in the turkey sausage, the bill came to around $9. For the amount of food (smaller than the average taco truck burrito) it was overpriced. Waking up to a wonderful cup of their Lighthouse coffee and the joyous morning greeting definitally makes my day all the better. As for my food, the level of customization for my morning burrito was amazing! I had no idea what I wanted and only asked for no eggs and potatoes. Not only did Miki take out the eggs and potatoes in my burrito, but also she put in some amazing New Mexico Hatch chilies. If you are a fan of spicy, you NEED to ask her for these chilies. They have a nice spicy/hotness that slowly spreads and maintains it's chili heat without overwhelming the unique flavors of everything else you are eating. The roasted vegetables that my breakfast burrito came with were also amazing. Soft, delicious and a nice completement to the REAL BEANS that were used in the burrito, I could feel the tender love and care that was put into the food. My husband has lived in Belltown for three years (two years for me) and Bang Bang is by far our favorite place to grab a meal in the whole neighborhood. For food, I've had their vegan mac 'n cheese, which is amazingly savory. A full bowl of it will leave you stuffed! I've also had their Basic breakfast burrito (egg, cheddar, and potatoes) and their Egg 'n Cheddar breakfast bagel. The former is great if you're really hungry--it's a big burrito!--and the latter is great if you love chewy, perfectly toasted and buttery bagels. The potato chunks in the Basic burrito are always freshly chopped (skin-on), fluffy, and lightly seasoned.
