I called in & placed a pickup order for eggrolls, lemongrass chicken & tofu radna. I got my order within 5 mins which was very good. We were looking forward to this dinner & i couldn't wait to have some good Thai foods. Unfortunately, it wasn't anything that i expected. The egg rolls were horrible. The fillings were so bad that i couldn't figured what they put in there. It neither tasted meat nor vegetables. It was some nasty mushy stuffings. I went on to the tofu radna. The noodles were thin and cooked in black soy sauce with some eggs. It wasn't the big noodles that a radna should be. Next, the sauce for the noodle was tastless, the broccoli were over cooked with thick cut chunky carrot & market bought tofu out of the box. I didn't bother to taste the lemongrass chicken. My cousin and her boyfriend (now fiance!) pick up food to-go from Bangkok Chef often when they want to enjoy a meal at their awesome Hawaiian bungalow. One night while I was visiting, we felt super lazy so we opted for Bangkok Chef delivery and it was VERY yummy! The dishes were apparently super cheap (her fiance paid) and we got a lot of food for three of us for less than $30. The coconut curry was especially good! Several of my local friends all tout the Bangkok Chef. I believe it started with it's first restaurant in Liliha and they opened up a restaurant in Manoa. The food was meh - I ordered the Pad Kee Mao (chow fun noodles with pork) which was bland. The Coconut Tom Yum soup was also bland. I did enjoy my mom's fried chicken wings. The part I think that turned me off about this place was the customer service. The employees were a bit short and weren't helpful at all. They tured down three of my requests (for extra sauce, for an extra bowl to share food, etc). I won't be back. read more

Walked into this place to get a takeout for dinner and there were no customers at the register. I was looking at the menu and the lady at the register had the most unwelcoming expression and said to me, "4 minutes." 4 minutes?? What the the heck is that suppose to mean? So I asked "4 minutes until closing?" She said "4 minutes to order." What?! I looked puzzled so she gave me this stink face like I'm wasting her time or like I'm stupid. She finally pointed behind me and said someone's waiting. I'm thinking geez, why didn't you just friggin' say that in the first place! Obviously, I didn't know someone was behind me! So I moved to the side to keep looking at the menu and she gives me this annoyed look. Anyway...as for the food.... As a half-Thai person who spent 9yrs living in Bangkok, I was hoping for some decent Thai food. ...I can honestly say it's not even close to Thai food, more like an attempt at it. It's okay though, but it just doesn't taste like a Thai food at all. Plus, it's way overpriced for street food you find in Thailand for a couple of bucks or less. Simply put: Thai food served like a plate lunch. For the consumer with a large appetite and a small wallet, Bangkok Chef is the venue of choice. Like many other local plate lunch places, orders are taken at the front and eaten at open seating within the restaurant. You'll serve yourself your own drinks via a drink dispenser, though refills aren't free. You'll probably have to clean your own table as well, though the tables aren't visibly dirty. The pad thai goes for about $5.70, which is ridiculously cheap considering the FULL plate lunch you'll get for it. There was the full gamut of flavors: noodles, onions, egg, chicken, bean sprouts, and some sweet (literally) spicing unique to Bangkok. I'm a fairly hearty eater, but could not down the sheer quantity of food in one sitting. The spring rolls (six of them) go for $5.95, which are worth more in girth than in length (that's what she said). Though not anything extraordinary, they met par with any other good spring roll I've had. One thing to note though, was that it's searing temperatures will keep you waiting and hungry until it's cooled down to an edible heat. The only real annoyance is the time it takes waiting for your food, though I suppose with any restaurant such should be expected. My suggestion: bring good company or a fully-charged phone with lots of mindless apps. read more

What is there to say...Bangkok Chef gives you the most bang for your buck! Seriously! As a college student, I eventually got sick and tired of the overpriced campus center food and that's when I found Bangkok Chef! Today I just had the cashew nut chicken and it was unbelievable! I was actually surprised how good the bell pepper, onion, cashew, chicken stir fry was! I'm normally not too much of a veggie person, but this was as good as vegetable stir fry gets! The best part was that it was only $6.50 (the same price as campus center food)! What made Bangkok Chef lose a star was that there is a menu on the wall which has pictures of all the entrees, but there are no prices on the wall. Apparently the prices are at the cashier. So you pretty much just pick something and find out the price at the cashier (at least they take card just in case you don't have cash). Another thing was that they gave way too much rice! I could barely finish it! But overall I would come back! Campus food leaves me hungry and broke but at Bangkok Chef I leave full and satisfied. read more

I love me some good Thai food, but depending on how hungry I am, sometimes I'm just all about the portion size. And Bangkok Chef delivers. We came in the other night for dinner (they share a parking lot with Morning Glass, so if you come for dinner, parking is pretty easy) and the people behind the counter were super friendly and accommodating. We ordered our food and went to sit down and I noticed the fountain drinks aren't free refills - sad day. However it is BYOB, so I'd suggest bringing your own anyways. Our food came out pretty quick and like I said, the portions are huge for the price. It's not too expensive, but they come in the big styrofoam containers stuffed with whatever it is you ordered. I tried the eggplant chicken and my boyfriend got one of the noodle dishes. They were both good... but that's it. Just good. Nothing fancy, nothing too mind blowing. The eggplant chicken seemed to have a ton a ton a ton of basil, and it kinda overpowered the rest of the flavors. It wasn't bad, especially for the price and the sheer amount of food, but it's definitely not the best Thai food I've ever had. Then again, I didn't come in expecting that either! Meh, everything was OK, I guess, not good. Reminded me of food in a mall food court. The "Thai Hot" curry was not in any way spicy. The panang didnt really taste of peanuts or cocnut milk, it tasted more like bland yellow curry. The pork was fatty, and didn't have a lot of flavor. The servings are big, but I would have rather had a smaller serving of something good, since it wasnt even worth keeping the leftovers for another meal. The summer rolls are also ok, the dipping sauce is REALLY thick and concentrated, which makes it hard to dip the rolls into since you just end up with this really thicck paste on a small part of the roll. read more

Parking is right out front. We ate here around 7pm and it was crowded when we went although we tend to bring the crowd, so after we ordered a bunch of people started coming to eat. This place is a little dingy, could use some cleaning. Their bathrooms are a little dirty. Sometimes it can get cold in here. The service is pretty fast and good. This place is a go-to when we can't decide where else to eat and very convenient when we want Thai food. They give a lot of food for good prices. My favorites are: tofu panaang curry with brown rice, tofy pad thai, summer rolls, papaya salad (spicy), and recently - the spring rolls (vegetarian). The panaang curry is nice and creamy and goes well with their fancy brown rice. However, they recently changed their styrofoam take-out plates to plastic tupperware-like containers. Maybe they are trying to promote recycle and reuse? Most people just throw it away so I think it's worse. Also, because they now serve their food in these containers, they give smaller portions for the same prices as before :( I'll always like Bangkok Chef because the workers are nice too. Their red curry, yellow curry, and green curry, as well as their pad Thai, have been quite consistent over the past few years, which we appreciate. I have noticed that the protein in the dishes, whether it be beef or chicken, has diminished recently, and prices have risen, but this seems to be a familiar refrain with all restaurants in Hawaii in the past ten years or so. I've been to the Manoa location several times and love it. I always order the panang pork curry (my favorite) and pork long rice. The fried chicken wings, chicken sateh, and spring rolls are also really good. They have a good amount of tables, and the wait for your order can usually take up to 15-20 minutes if you don't call ahead during peak hours. I wish they offered more beef dishes, like beef sateh. Other than that, the prices and portions are very good for a college student like myself! read more

The food is very delicious, fresh and satisfying. Restraunt is clean and restrooms are available. Normally we enjoy dining in to be served and waited on. There is no dine in service at this location. We stood in line to order and waited to grab our food. The dishes are limited so the restaurant uses take out styrofoam. I wasn't impressed to pour hot soup into a bowl that could melt. The dessert fridge was empty so we went else where for dessert. A better location experience to dine in would be the Nimitz Bangkok Chef...that's been my to go spot for some time. Full disclosure ......Thai food is my favorite!! I love the food here because it's good but also it's cheap- in a good way!! I like thier Pad Thai better than a lot of the more expensive places because it's moist and has a sweet and salty flavor that's just right. Today we ordered 4 catering trays to go to take to a meeting. Pad Thai of course 39$ for a full pan. We also ordered Green Curry and Yellow Curry a full pan is 48$ each, and a pan of Jasmine Rice 19$. We had plenty of food for 20 people and everyone complimented me on how great the food was for the meeting. There was enough to take home leftovers for lunch tomorrow and the next day. Short on the lettuce for the spring rolls. The yellow curry wasn't even yellow. Couldn't taste any curry in it at all. It's like the cook forgot to put in the curry or they were running low on it and watered it down to the point it doesn't taste anything like yellow curry. Pretty terrible. Dropping it down to 1 star, I called them to let them know the order was one leaf short so 2 rolls without lettuce. She stood firm with no apologies or understanding to keep the order to 2 leaves for 6 pieces, and not enough mint leaves. They didn't care, so check your order and ask for 3 leaves, hope there's a more understanding staff. Sorry, it was a bummer. read more

I love Thai food and when I want quick and tasty Thai takeout, I always think of this Bangkok Chef because it's consistent and conveniently located. I like to order my entrees a la carte, which comes with larger portions without the rice. It's a little bit more expensive but totally worth it, especially if you have some rice at home. I recommend their panang curry and green curry. I usually get my curry with chicken although the pork is good too. The pad thai here is okay but does not pack as much flavor as pad thai at other places. Their fried chicken wings (again, I suggest getting them a la carte), however, are super delicious. They come out perfectly crispy and go very well with the sauce. One of these days, I really want to try their pad si you and pad ki mao. But I am a creature of habit who likes sticking to what I know for sure is good, so not sure when that will be haha. read more
