Over the years I have dined at this location many times. I always have a great experience. The restaurant is always very clean and decorated tastefully. I have gone for lunch and dinner. The menus vary slightly, the dinner menu is more pricey than the lunch menu. They do close for a couple of hours between lunch and dinner. A friend of mine and I ate at Bangkok downtown restaurant yesterday. We ordered Tom Kha coconut soup with chicken. They brought us out some clear broth soup with onions and mushrooms, and I told the waitress this is not Tom Kha soup, this is more like Tom Yum which is a clear broth soup. So we both sent the soup back. When we received our bill the soup was still on the bill. I asked to waitress to please remove the soup from the bill cuz we did not eat it. She said the owner said you ordered it you pay for it. Also my friend ordered a salad and when he got his salad it look like they cut a quarter off a head of lettuce and laid it on his plate. He had only a fork and a spoon, they gave him no knife to cut the lettuce up. Needless to say will never visit this establishment ever again... read more

Staying in Salisbury for work and was craving sushi! So glad I checked this place out. The atmosphere is very relaxed and would be perfect for date night and large groups. I started with the miso soup which was DELICIOUS! Very fresh and flavorful. I also had the Yum Yum roll and the Crunchy Shrimp roll which was recommended by one of the servers. Both rolls were great. Took 2 of my neighbors out for a birthday celebration lunch and we were all so pleased!!! The service was delightful, the food was awesome!!! We had a laid-back luncheon. I went here for lunch yesterday. I was heading down the interstate and needed to grab something to eat. I consulted Yelp and decided on Bangkok. I found a parking spot on the street and walked in. The entrance is a little confusing. There is one door on the street that looks like it walks right into the restaurant, but it is closed with a sign saying "Use other door." I used the other door, but this one looked like it entered into an office building or residential condo building. There was an elevator and steps, and another door that opened into a dining establishment of some sort. A quick peek lead me to believe it was a bar; there was no signage on the door indicating the name of the establishment. I left and walked back out, perplexed as to where I was supposed to go. Out of options, I re-entered the lobby and walked in to the restaurant. I was still confused until I saw the sushi bar, and so assumed I was in the right place. It is a large restaurant. The bar area is the first thing you see with more traditional seating in the building attached. I looked over the menu, and since I have been digging some curry lately, I ordered the massaman curry. The lunch entrée came with soup and a spring roll. The soup was egg drop, and it was very thick and salty. Not great. The egg roll was very tasty, crispy and chewy. My entrée was disappointing. The portion was large, but the curry didn't taste like curry, more like a peanut tomato stew. I have certainly had better food at other Thai food places. If I came back, I would try the pad thai, but I doubt I will be back because I am rarely in the area. Not sure what else there is in Salisbury. read more

Apparently, they still don't have the correct recipe on how to make it. They still had the audacity to try to make me pay for something that didn't order. I gave them a choice of either taking it off my bill or leaving & not pay anything at all. They kept arguing with me & I finally got up & addressed the dining room patrons to let them know what they were doing. They finally took it off my bill after they said that they wouldn't. I still left a tip for our sever since she did nothing wrong & was very polite the whole time. Please take a heed of all the negative reviews here since I'm not the first & probably won't be the last to have this type of experience here. We have given this three chances and they have failed every time. The service is horrible. We have sat for 20 minutes the first visit and finally left after no one came to take our food order and this was when there was only four tables occupied in the entire place. The second visit we stood at the hostess stand for 15 minutes and finally followed three other couples out that had been waiting even longer to be greeted. Again, the place wasn't full or even that busy. The third and final trip we finally got to eat. The food was really good but again the service poor. We start with some Crab Rangoons and Fried Thai Spring Rolls, those were amazing appetizers, I loved the fried spring rolls the pork were so good ( the best I ever had ). They give me egg rolls sauce with that and it was the best complement. After the appetizers we ordered Hibachi steak, Hibachi chicken and Pineapple Fried rice with chicken for meals. The 3 plates were warm and delicious. The hibachi with the fried rice and the shrimp sauce is an excellent combination. I highly recommend those plates. We also ask for sushi, the Lemon Salmon Roll is for me one of the best sushi's I ever had. The lemon really changes the flavor in a good way. The Smoked salmon on the Kin Roll was so fascinating . It really tastes smoked, smooth and good flavor. I love the Unagi ( Eel ). The Unagi nigiri for me is the best nigiri, the flavor is so Yummy for me. The Rock N roll is the best fried roll in the restaurant. I highly recommended. After all the meals we ask for Bangkok bananas, the coconut ice cream and the coin bananas are so good combined. That dessert is DELICIOUS. The service was quickly, kind and very attentive. Our server always were checking if our drinks were good or if we need something else. We ask for a big order and he never made an error in our food. The ambience is beautiful, the restaurant is very beautiful, the always have good ambience music. It was very calm and beautiful. As visitors to Salisbury, we relied on reviews to select a place and the other five stars were on the money. I arrived first, about fifteen minutes early, but they seated me and i spent the time eating an order of spring rolls. Delicious, made even better by the dipping sauce. When we eventually had our dinners, two of us had the iron skillets, shrimp and chicken, and they were fantastic, perfectly seared with ideal vegetable complements. My wife had the sweet and sour chicken that she devoured. Our server, Pong, and i hope i spelled his name properly, was efficient and gracious. The staff was very nice, responsive, attentive, and food came out quickly. My parents loved the black pepper and garlic frog legs. I loved the soft shell crab dish, I forgot what it was called but it was delicious. I am not a fan of chicken satay but my sisters had it and said that compared to others that she has had, these were delicious and not dry. Don't forget dessert! The Thai donuts were yummy. Little doughy fried nuggets with some sort of cream, maybe condensed milk, drizzled on top. Not overly sweet but hits the spot. Bangkok Downtown is an adequate Thai restaurant in the middle of downtown Salisbury, NC. The location is a definite plus, situated perfectly for a quick lunch for employees of any of the banks or government agencies whose facilities are in the area. Also, it's a great stop for an early dinner after window shopping in the boutiques along Main Street. The restaurant is quite large, with two separate dining areas. The décor is the typical "Oriental" style that one would expect in the "dine"-a-dozen Thai restaurants that have popped up all over the nation since Americans discovered the peanut-y goodness of Pad Thai. The service was attentive and the portions were generous, even for the lunch specials. The lunch combos are $6-$8 and come with soup, the entree and a fried spring roll (essentially, an egg roll). The soup, a sad attempt at a miso soup, was bland and salty. The entree was not memorable...in fact, as I write this review, I'm struggling to remember if I ordered Pad Thai or Pad Kee Mow, and I was just there! I know that I ordered tofu and it was firm and well-cooked, which I appreciated. I love Thai food--any Thai will do! For a tiny town like Salisbury, NC, Bangkok Downtown was just fine. If I could give one critique, it would be the service. I always tell people how great the food is , but I feel as though I also have to tell them how " not so good" the service is . If we sit at the bar , we get better service , but anywhere else, never. I hate it because we would most definitely go there more often if things straightened out. I love coming to this spot because they have such inventive rolls, and even though I don't think it's QUITE as tasty as it's sister restaurant, Sabaidee, it's still quite yummy. We had the Bangkok Downtown rolls this time (their equivalent of 'everything but the kitchen sink'), which were amazing, as well as the spicy tuna, also good.
