    Racks of snacks

Located in the heart of all the Silver Lake action, this little Filipino bakery is tucked in the corner of a small plaza, serving baked goods and snacks. To be fair, this review is based on experience, service and the Turon, which is what we purchased and felt deserving of a review. The staff was warm and friendly as we asked if they had any more Turon. He pleasantly said yes and asked how many we would like. The Turon was light and crispy with enough sweetness from the banana, jackfruit and caramelized sugar that coats the wrapper. The store itself is small and gives a mom and pop shop feel. Glad to see a place like this has stood the test of time. Will be back to try more items!

United Bread and Pastry has been serving the Silverlake area of Los Angeles for 42 years! Imagine a small mom and pop shop tucked in a little spot amongst bustling Sunset Blvd. Where everything else is changing and shifting, this little bakery stays true to its mission and that is to serve up Filipino desserts, snacks and pastries. This is theeee place to get turon (fried banana and jackfruit spring rolls.) I tried looking for turon in Mid-City and the only place I found is a Filipino market in the westside and they sold turon from United Bread and Pastry! The place is family-owned and the sweetest woman helped me with my order. If you hadn't already, check their IG page. So charming!

What a local hidden gem! we didn't realize this was a Filipino bakery when we walked in and was definitely very pleasantly surprised. They have some pretty hard to find Filipino stuff here, like pastillias ube. The turon was very good too. Service is excellent and they are very friendly. Didn't realize they did catering too, including lechon which I feel is pretty hard to find these days. definitely bookmarking this place as a future catering option!

Heard about this place from Instagram. Cute place - you smell the fried Turon as soon as you walk in. Parking is okay (they have 2-3 parking spaces and there's street parking). Prices were good - a dozen chicken empanadas for $28, I think. The Turon was super crispy and filled with banana and jackfruit - my favorite. The empanada was baked- crust was perfect with a little crunch and they put a decent amount of chicken filling compared to others. They do have other specialties and you can order party trays as well. Super friendly owner, very nice lady. Will definitely be back! 10 out of 10 for me! Enjoy.

Owner operated for 40+ years, in the same same location says it all!! My favorites so far are any flavor Hopia, pork adobo roll and the turon... i will be back for sure to try even more... And you will be surprised by the prices, compared to the bigger filipino bakeries. Support local, support small businesses

Came here on a Monday afternoon because I was craving an authentic turon. Parking is very tough but worth it if you can manage to find street parking. Once you enter the store, it's reminiscent of a classic Filipino bakery with the glass displays of treats and even a small section for just snacks/groceries. Service was very kind and welcomed us. They even let us know at what time they baked their turon. Loved the welcoming atmosphere of this bakery. Turon 9/10 - The staff informed us that the batch of turon we got was made an hour prior, but it was still perfectly coated in sugar and crispy upon biting. The filling was generous, juicy, and sweet. I liked that even when biting into the turon it didn't fall apart and maintained its shape well. I'd say this spot is worth visiting for an overall authentic and homey experience. Loved the turon!

Hands down the best Turon I had ever. The freshest desert I had ever in a long time. The owner of the store is super nice and the location was easy to find. Only thing was hard to find parking I had to go in circles twice. It was worth the drive and looking for parking.

Rough parking but well worth the effort to try this historical landmark and go-to Filipino bakery in the area. My cousin and I ordered a variety of baked goods but we both shared that the siopao and polvoron (all flavors) are great! Service was welcoming. Interior is charming and busy but in a very comforting and familiar way. Check this spot out if you are in the area!

Authentic filipino style eats and treats! This family bakery has the sweetest owners and has been a staple in the neighborhood for decades. Don't let the original exterior fool you. If you're in the neighborhood you need to stop by!

    Dry, stale, old Ube ensaymada

I hate to leave a bad review but I wasted a lot of money in this bakery. The ensaymadas are not freshly baked. The sansrival is also old and not buttery at all. Even the peanuts taste bad. I hope they can improve their products and be more successful in their business. So they can represent the Filipino food better.

First time trying to run in here I heard about this place, but I never had a chance and finally I got to try it out. The famous turon. I can't wait to try out their cakes. You've the purple one taro flavor. i A nice hiding spot I can't wait to come back great goodies. Please just watch for the parking signs because there's no parking around.

Super cute and charming bakery in silverlake with a good selection of freshly baked pastries. When I walked in, it felt so nostalgic and homey, like walking into my Filipino grandma's house. Everyone in there was so nice too, welcoming us in like family. The turon was really sweet and crispy, just how I like it, with really soft banana inside and juicy but subtle langka (jackfruit) inside. The hopia monggo has a really good flavor and it wasn't too dry like some others I've had. We also got the garlic peanuts and they were perfectly roasted with the right balance of salt and garlic flavor on them. No complaints at all about this place and if you're ever in the area you need to give it a try!!

The award for best Turon in LA goes to: United Bakery! My friend recommended me this legendary bakery for some traditional Filipino desserts, including Turon. They also offer small cakes like Ube and Pandan Cake for a fair price. The ambiance reminds me of a combined homey sari-sari store and panaderia in the Philippines. Except, it's in the heart of Silver Lake along Sunset Boulevard & Griffith Park Blvd. Just be patient when it comes to parking, unless you're only picking up an order for a short time. I ordered two dozen (24 pieces) of turon for a potluck at my office. I ordered via phone the day before and kindly provided my name and phone number. The turons were fresh, crispy and ready upon pick-up. While they encourage cash payments, they also accept payments via credit/debit cards for a small fee. Their turon is truly uniquely crispy, warm and flavorful inside and out. They don't miss out on the even coating of brown sugar and the perfect portion of saba and langka (jackfruit). Thanks to my friend's recommendation, United Bakery is the legit place to order legit crispy turon in Los Angeles.

Would it be possible to make a jumbo bola bola special siopao?

Their listed phone number doesn't work and does not accept voice messages, what's the best contact number to place a huge order for pick up? Thanks.

I would go to the store and order it in person so that you're sure they get the order right.

4.5 stars. Sorry,…read moreguys - I'm still catching up on my reviews and am kicking myself for failing to write this before Spoon & Pork permanently shut its doors. This was an unforgettable eatery. During our trip to Los Angeles in May, 2023, Wendell invited Jay, Z and me to meet up with Veda and him for a late lunch at 2 PM at one of their favourite Filipino restaurants, Spoon & Pork, on Sunday, the 7th. Spoon & Pork, which originated as a food truck, was a restaurant that specialized in Filipino comfort food with a contemporary twist. They offered a fresh, inventive fusion of the flavours of the Philippines with modern sophistication. Nestled in the vibrant heart of Los Angeles' Silver Lake neighbourhood, Spoon & Pork was a cozy boutique eatery on bustling Sunset Boulevard that greeted guests with a neon pig sign at their front entrance. No private lot on this busy street, so finding nearby parking was a bit challenging and although the charming spot offered both indoor and al fresco dining, seating was also limited. The tropical-inspired dining room with warm wood accents created an effortlessly cool and relaxed atmosphere that felt both modern and rooted in tradition. Upon entry, guests were welcomed by the aroma of sizzling meats and fragrant spices which alluded to the culinary journeys to come. The food at Spoon & Pork wasn't exactly what one's nanay (mom) or lola (grandma) would cook. Celebrating fresh takes on the richness of Filipino cuisine, the menu was an invitation to indulge in unexpected, compelling twists on a thoughtfully curated selection of traditional dishes, infusing familiar flavours into new forms. Below are what we ordered: beef tapa ($25) - MASARAP (DELICIOUS)! Of all the dishes that we ordered, this was the winner of them all as the succulent meat packed a punch of flavour. adobo tofu ($14) - One of Wendell's regular orders, this notable plant-based option, was a tasty, innovative take on the Philippine classic that balanced tradition with modern creativity. laing ($9) - From their platito, small plates section, this bowl of coconut braised taro leaves was rich and creamy deliciousness, but, yes, mini in portion size. garlic rice ($4/$7) - Ordering the garlic rice over plain jasmine rice was a no brainer. Thoroughly infused with the savouriness of the many bits of garlic, this rice perfectly paired with all of the other dishes. bistek ($28) - The skirt steak was very tender and the sauce perfectly balanced the tanginess from the calamansi juice with the savoury soy sauce. lechon kawali ($23) - Another reimagined classic dish featuring crispy, golden pork belly with crunchy skin and tender, flavourful meat inside. The dish was complemented by a tangy, pickled red cabbage that enhanced the crispy texture and added a refreshing contrast. This mastery of flavour and texture tickled Z's tastebuds and won him over. Before this day, Z was never a fan of Filipino food. Everything tasted boldly rich and every bit intensely intoxicated our taste buds. Service was quick, friendly, and attentive. What a remarkably epicurean feast and delightful experience we enjoyed! We're super bummed that Spoon & Pork permanently closed shoppe. Z and I were hoping to return for another tasty meal. Truly, a worthy spot this place was to hit up for an impressively creative taste of the Philippines in Los Angeles.

As a second-generation Filipino-American, I would be lying if I didn't say that I had rather high expectations for Spoon & Pork, but as always, I try my best to keep any biases aside & curb any + all expectations. That said, Spoon & Pork is quite the anomaly. What I mean by that is that you have the hallmarks of any typical Filipino restaurant: simple interiors with modest decor, & beyond hospitable wait staff - especially our host, but the techniques & presentations of their dishes are something that you'd find at the highest of fine dining establishments. The irony is kind of nice because I don't feel so guilty about rocking a simple t-shirt + jeans, while enjoying what I'd expect to served at an establishment along Rodeo Dr. FOOD: Appetizer Lumpia Shanghai - 8.0 / 10 Perhaps the most famous of Filipino appetizers / street foods. I pride myself of bringing trays of these myself to any gathering because who doesn't love crispy, crunchy, meat-stuffed egg rolls that you can pop into your mouth? Here, the only real difference is that the individual pieces are longer that what you'd typically find. The pork + veggie dumpling is the same as elsewhere as well as your sweet + sour sauce. Nothing exactly to write home about, but delicious nonetheless Side Adobo Rice - 7.7 / 10 I feel like I've had this before & even made it myself. Simply put, imagine mixing plain, white rice into a cauldron of adobo broth. The very small pieces of meat are nice, but again, it's we're not exactly re-inventing the wheel here. It is a very nice upgrade vs. ordering your standard issue steamed (white) rice. Entrées Tapa - 9.0 / 10 A favorite of mine growing up as a kid. But whereas my mother would fry thin strips of beef, almost to a dehydrated crisp (think thicker, moister beef jerky), their rendition is quite different. Heartier chunks of premium quality beef, generously swimming in a broth of soy, vinegar, & garlic. This was personally my favorite dish of the night & a nice interpretation of a Filipino staple. The atchara (papaya, carrots, and red bell peppers, in tangy brine) provided a nice + refreshing counterpoint. Adobo Pork Belly - 8.9 / 10 If you ask anyone who knows anything about Filipino cuisine, the word "adobo" will almost always come to mind. But "Filipino style" adobo is quite different in meaning to its Spanish counterpart. In this case, we're referring to the classic preparation of any dish in a mixture of vinegar, soy sauce peppercorns, garlic, & bay leaves. Your boy definitely love pork belly (fatty unsmoked bacon of steroids), but the delicate pieces of meat smothered in the classic sauce was something of a revelaltion. I honestly didn't know how I haven't stumbled upon Pork Belly in Adobo (sauce) sooner than now. Highly recommended if you want to they the most classical Filipino flavor but with a modern take. As far as parking goes, availability is limited to the rather small number of spaces that they share with the fish taco shack immediately adjacent. But metered parking in aplenty. PRO TIP: Having actually lived about less than 100 yards away from this very restaurant (I moved away 1 year before they opened this location), drive up Westerly Terrace & you'll likely find some non-designated residential parking spots & just walk on over. Spoon & Pork are doing some very innovative things in Filipino cuisine. Combining modern techniques to traditional flavors. This place definitely deserves your business!

Every Filipino swears their food is better at home and I'm sure it may be, but we need to appreciate places like this that put our cuisine out there and make it this good! I was very impressed with the flavors and I absolutely loved that they served the bibinka similar to a cornbread because it works! I never thought to eat bibinka with savory foods because it's normally a dessert to me, but it is definitely the icing! All the meats were definitely tasty, but the star that made these proteins pop was the vinegar! My youngest said that's just me being Filipino because he said it didn't need the vinegar, but trust me... make sure to use that vinegar. I can probably drink the vinegar because it's that good! The restaurant is nicely decorated with beautiful cultured decoration that remind you of the homeland. Such a nice option when you want something a little different without going across town. We ordered the coconut beef adobo, pork ribs, and the cornbread bibingka. The coconut beef adobo was definitely the standout for me. It kind of reminded me of Bicol express with a slight tanginess. Super flavorful and really good with steamed rice. The pork ribs were not your typical saucy, sweet, fall off the bone type. These were more dry style with a bark that can be a little tough, but the meat itself was still juicy underneath. The cornbread bibingka was also really good. It felt like the perfect mix of classic cornbread and bibingka, slightly sweet and soft, and the sugar on top was a nice touch. Portions were solid too. My husband and I had enough leftovers for the next day. Overall, really glad we finally got to try it, and we would definitely love to try more of their dishes someday.

At first, the experience can feel a little overwhelming with the open grills, karaoke playing in the background, and the lines of people waiting to grab food. However, I would absolutely say it is worth the wait. The tables turn over fairly quickly, so it does not take long before seats start opening up. Even while waiting in line, one of the workers running the karaoke setup stood outside greeting guests and striking up conversations by asking questions like, "Where are you traveling from?" and "Is this your first time visiting us?" She had such a great personality that it genuinely made my family's experience even more enjoyable. Once you get inside, you grab a tray and start picking out whichever skewers and sticks you want to eat. After paying, you head outside to the grill area where you warm up and char the BBQ skewers yourself. One small thing to keep in mind is paying attention to which direction the smoke is blowing so you do not accidentally end up standing directly in it. The food tasted great once everything was grilled and ready to eat. I would also highly recommend getting some vinegar on the side since the acidity complements the meats really well. Overall, if you are looking for a family-oriented place that makes people feel welcomed regardless of where they come from, I would highly recommend stopping by to experience their hospitality.

There was only one other group of diners while we were there. A family of 4 who were seated in the back room. We ended up being seated in the area facing Fountain. My first comment was how I felt like I was at my Lola's house because the decor was giving Lola vibes, in the best way. I felt like I was home. My friend got the laing meal and I got the tocino. We also got a side order of the sweet & spicy longanisa. Broooooooooooooo That food was wow. I'm gonna say it again - it tasted like home. Down to the fixins on the table like vinegar and suchas. I appreciated all the little touches. We ate so much yet still had so much leftovers. Their portion size was crazy. We would've been good with just one meal and another protein a la carte. We also got a small bowl of their arroz caldo. Let me tell you something, a single tear legit went down my left cheek. That tasted like what my mom made for me when she was still with us. The memories that came flooding back took me on a rollercoaster of emotions. We did order their famous empanada that never came. We had to remind our server that he never dropped it off. I'm not sure why he didn't double check if we still wanted them which we did. We would've obviously paid for them. Despite that they're getting all the stars from me because the food was fire and their drinks were 10/10. I got the Maria Clara. They also allow two free refills so that's a double win. I'm about to pull up every weekend. Take all my monies.

Tried this place for the first time with friends earlier today. I ordered Sinigang na Bangus…read more(Milkfish) with garlic rice and I thought it was really good. I felt comforted by the sourness of the Sinigang soup after feeling stressed about my final exam. My friends ordered Tapsilog and Tocilog (tapa and tocino with garlic fried rice) and I was able to try them. The tapa was alright, but the tocino was very delicious. I liked how the tocino wasn't fatty at all. I would recommend the Sinigang and Tocilog to other friends/my family. The service was great. Our server was nice and accommodated us quickly when we needed something. The wait time for the food we ordered wasn't so bad. I also liked the ambiance of the restaurant because it felt like I was inside a family friend's house, which was unique to me. The food is a little on the pricier side for Filipino food, but overall I had a great experience dining here.
