Chinese long beans with XO sauce

Still coming back after all other dim sum in the region. And Alhambra has become exceedingly pricey these days. Having a simple but functional great dim sum place with reasonable mains is a staple for those last minute yearnings for something tasty. The menu is a bit streamlined for non banquets now, to help keep costs controlled. But they still get live lobster and crab. And service has been consistent over the years (gold vests handle the table, red handles the food delivery, black is your payment contact)

Pan Fried Mixed Seafood and Leek Dumplings cut showing interior

Golden Dragon has been around since the 1970's when I may have gone there with frat brothers who wanted to introduce me to their native Cantonese cuisine. Golden Palace across the street was another go to. Memories are faded due to the long number of years ago, binge drinking alcohol, and going to the Dragon after midnight to eat Chao Fun, Jok, Singapore style rice noodles to absorb all the alcohol. Golden Dragon hasn't changed much, but after the Pandemic, it closes at the early hour of 9pm. This luncheon was organized by the Culinary Historians of Southern California so we dined in a banquet room with intricately carved paneled ceiling and walls depicting palaces & pavilions that seems to be plucked right out of the Forbidden City. 1) Pan Fried Mixed Seafood and Leek Dumplings: Fatty, soft, ground pork flavoured possibly by fermented oyster sauce with plump, firm, oceanic, sweet shrimp, green onion leaf, all wrapped with a snappy, thin, wheat wonton wrapping. This first course was the highlight of the banquet. 2) Pork stuffed Won Ton with shrimp, Cha Siu, shredded chicken, carrots, mushrooms, green pea pods. Only wish is for the soup to have satisfying Umami instead of being barely flavored warm water. 3) Chicken Chop Suey with broccoli, Gailan, carrots, mushrooms in a corn starch thickened "sauce" which again lacked Umami. 4) Braised Bean Curd with Eggplant and Bamboo Shoots in what may be Hoisin Brown Sauce. Then the Fried Tōfu, eggplant are braised in the sauce along with bamboo shoots. Hoisin is a rich, sweet Miso which gave a stronger, earthy, fermented taste profile. 5) Fried Calamari with Spicy Salt has a mostly corn starch batter that comes out airy, light, extra crispy, but the squid is so over fried that the texture is extremely dry & leathery. 6) Pan Fried Rock Cod Fillet was thankfully not over cooked with soft, moist meat with red & green Bell Peppers, onions in humus-moldy, funky Black Bean Sauce that worked well. 7) Pan Fried Garlic Long Beans still retained their bright green color, al dente, with toasty garlic. 8) Cha Siu Pork Chao Mein with Thin Wheat Noodles: Rather dry with paltry pieces of pork, but I put on ingredients from the other dishes that fortified the Chao Mein. 9) Hong Kong Egg Custard Tarts: Originally called Pastel de Nata from Portugal. It was introduced to China when the Portuguese established the colony of Macao not too far from Hong Kong. Since that time, Dan Taht, where Dan is Cantonese for egg and Taht is from the English word tart, has been a staple of Dim Sum repertoire. This egg custard with a flakey pastry cup has been modified by China and the British when Hong Kong was a colony. Service by some of the younger staff was good although some old school guys accidentally bonked my head while serving or couldn't be bothered to answer a simple request, but fortunately the newer guard seems more responsive. The only weak point was the lack of a satisfying Umami in some of the dishes which could be amplified by use of more concentrated broth of some kind which adds to the food cost and therefore not used. The banquet luncheon was $30/person so was very reasonable. 3+ stars

I have been coming here since I can remember as a little girl and still to this day it's the most nostalgic feeling being white and having dim sum. The quality of food is nice and consistent all these years always hot and fresh. The staff and service is so sweet and always on point. Being in this old building brings back so many memories!

Our gang of seven came here after the 2026 Firecracker 10K...along with dozens of other groups. Decor transports you to China, or at least what I imagine China would be like. Dim sum is the popular option. While most order it from the menu, they do come around with a few items from time to time carried on red plastic trays. There is a wonton cart that makes the rounds too. It's easy to overdo it here with so many tasty dishes. It's best to come as a large group. I can't give you a run down of what we ordered. Truth is, it doesn't really matter. But I've captured a photo of the first items they brought us. The total bill came out to $17 per person. Very reasonable price for a full lunch these days. Not sure about parking here. We rode the metro, which is just around the corner.

Enjoyed a quick lunch on Saturday at this huge temple of classic Cantonese gastronomy. Dishes sampled were braised tofu with eggplant and old-fashioned Chinese chicken chop Suey. White rice. Dessert was egg, custard tarts and fortune cookies. We thought it was all very tasty. We took home at least half of the food for another meal. We loved the complimentary hot tea that they set down as soon as we were seated! The restaurant is very atmospheric and fun to see. We were seated in the smaller room. Although they have dim sum carts at lunch, we came at the very end time and were looking to order off the menu. White tablecloths were so nice, but we did not like the thin white paper napkins that barely covered our laps. That was probably the only thing we wish was different. A big plus was the complementary valet parking and the very congenial attendants!

Always a solid choice when you're craving dim sum for brunch. We were seated right away when we walked in, which was a nice start. Once we sat down, I noticed the tables didn't have the usual chili oil and soy sauce that most dim sum spots keep out. Instead, they bring out two small sides of chili sauce. The service isn't amazing, but that's pretty much expected at dim sum places. We came in a little after noon and were given the paper menus at the table to mark what we wanted. After placing our order, the food came out without much follow up from the staff. They don't really check in once the dishes hit the table, but if you need anything you can flag someone down, just expect it to take a bit of time. That said, the food quality was good overall. Nothing really stood out, but that's mainly because most dim sum tastes pretty similar to me. Still, it's convenient, reliable, and a place I'd come back to.

Such a classic dimsum spot. Food comes out so quickly and is always nice and hot. Prices are very reasonable and service is quick! No frills, old school Chinatown vibe. Great place for a quick meal when you're craving dimsum.

I was pretty excited for this place since everyone claims it's the best dim sum in chinatown but it was quite disappointing :/ The har gow was weirdly mushy and the flavor was not good. The shrimp noodle roll is one of my favorite dim sum dishes but it was also not flavorful here and the shrimp was mushy. The chicken feet was okay and the bbq bun was dry. The shumai was not bad and the pork ribs were good, but everything else was just not good so I wouldn't return.

Went on a Sunday around noon and it was pretty busy. No waiting, luckily, but what you would expect at a dimsum restaurant. Workers were just like any other worker, not really much service but kind of what i would expect, especially for someone who eats dim sum often in la and oc. Everything looked clean and werent too messy. Table cloths are always changed after so thats good. Need some renovating but honestly, the old look makes the place feel like nostalgia, with a lot of loud conversations all around you. Where most of the ratings, I would say goes to the food. Honestly, the food looked really good but was really bland. I tend to eat my dim sum with chili oil and soy sauce, but even then there were no depth of flavor in the har gow and shu mai. I did like the chicken feet, that was flavorful, and the shrimp rice paper (which you cant go wrong with), but everything else was not up to my standards. both baked snd steamed pork buns were'nt bad either. The custard bun however was really sweet. It was good but i could not eat it without drinking water, if they cut down on the sugar, this wouldve been amazing. So unless you really like sweets, then i would recommend but if youre not a big sweets person i would steer away. Overall, i would say this place is not bad, just not good either. I would go if there werent any other places around, but i'll try some other places to see if its good.

Everything here was pretty cheap in terms of their dim sum! Items are priced from A, B, C and D. It's a better deal when you go on a weekday because items from A-C are only $4.80 and D items are $7.50. On weekends or holidays, A items are $4.80; B items are $5.50; C items are $6.50; and D items are $7.50. We ordered 10 A items, 1 D item and a drink which only came out to $59.95 before tips! We were so shocked at how cheap it was as dim sum can normally go up to $100 for 2 people (at least with the amount we usually order lol). Now for the flavor, everything was average. My favorite items were their dim sum and the steamed tofu skin rolls. If I want something inexpensive though and a quick dim sum meal, I'd totally come back to here. The staff were also super kind and it felt homey in an unfamiliar city~

We went to Chinatown today to reminisce about the times going to Golden Dragon growing up! When you walk in you're transported to another place and space in time. It's magical! The servers are on point...fast, friendly and anticipate your needs! The food...the F O O D IS out of this world! Transpirted directly from China! Be a little careful ordering, it's definitely family style! Such big portions!! Clean restroom, parking is very expensive but I found street parking! Make sure to look!

It's always a great choice for excellent chinese food in Chinatown, you hit up Golden Dragon. We came in on 1-21-26 around 7:30pm for dinner. We ordered house special chow mein which is my favorite along with sweet and sour pork, mongolian beef which is amazing and kung pao. The staff are great, very nice and welcoming always to their restaurant. It was quite busy at the restaurant with several people there made for a nice evening. The restaurant is always clean and presentable. Every single dish comes out exactly how it should be, nice and hot and good.

    Dim Sum!

It's decent dim sum. Located in Chinatown so that gave it home turf a theme/atmosphere/vibe boost. In addition, this restaurant has been open for a very long time so it's become a known landmark in the area, so I totally do rec stopping by once just to check it off ur bucket list. No dim sum carts unfortunately. "Free" parking on-site (but it's valet so u gotta tip the staff right?). Otherwise gotta be looking for street or paid parking spots. Notable items I enjoyed were the eggplant and shumai. Will pass on the steamed tofu skin roll (too salty) and xlb (actually hard to find a dim sum place with good xlb in general, just go to an xlb restaurant for it). If you can make the trip, def try going to SGV instead for some fresh dim sum.

Don't bring your dog unless its a service animal. Its an indoor restaurant.

How is the parking lot security for this restaurant ?? Are there security guards in the adjacent parking lot and in the outdoor parts of the shopping plaza complex where the restaurant is located?

There is no parking lot security for the restaurant.

    Are rolling carts back?

Yes, that stops at 3 pm on the weekends

Do they have dim sum now ? rolling carts? 9/2/2023

    Do they serve Beijing Duck?

    Yes, we serve Peking Duck.

What's the minimum number of people for private banquet room?

Do they serve dim sum with rolling cart?

No they do not. I don't think there are any Dim Sum restaurants that have the rolling carts anymore. From most of the restaurants I've been to or read on Yelp, you order from a piece or paper and they bring the food to you

Are you serving Dim Sum and New Years Day?

Yes, we are serving dim sum on New Year’s Day between 8:30am-3pm.

Are they open on Thanksgiving day and Christmas Day for Dimsum?

Most Chinese restaurants (not mom-&-pop ones) are open on major holidays, including Golden Dragon. I've been here on Christmas Day before, but go early, holidays are exceptionally crowded!

Yes they offer dim sum weekdays

Do you have private room for 15 people?

Yes. They have a room that could fit a 100 if they have to

There is no longer outside seating

Do they have the dim sum carts now?

    Not at this time.

Will you be open Christmas day 12/25/2021? We are flying in to LA as tourists, no family to eat with.

Yes, it's open today until 9pm. Really busy right now, but wait is not long.

Halo will you be open on saturday 27th nov?

Yes, we are open on 11/27/21.

Do you take a reservation or just first in first served?

    Yes, we do take reservation.

Will you be open on Sept. 6( Labor Day)?

Yes, we are open on Labor Day, 9/6/21.

What time does dim sum end on Sundays?

Not for this place...Most places run until 3pm but I've had it where the kitchen closes early, so go by 2pm to get most of the items...

One cool thing though: when my partner went in to grab the order, they watched them carving the chicken fresh before packing it up. You definitely don't get that kind of thing ordering through Uber Eats. The soy sauce chicken (not pictured) was also solid, and honestly this is a great spot if you want food that'll stretch into leftovers for days. We probably got at least four more meals out of everything. Still... it didn't fully scratch that Chinese restaurant itch for me the way SGV spots do. But for the area? Still a pretty good option.

And, I've always been a fan. It used to be a great late night spot to go. A lot of people would come in here after midnight, to enjoy a meal and a conversation with friends. Times change as times always do. This restaurant is only open till 1:00 AM now on Saturday and Sunday. And, I understand, that's just the way it is. The main thing I wanted to discuss in this review, is how disappointing this restaurant has become. I come here frequently and I have just watched a downward trend. I think a lot of this has to do with DoorDash. I believe the staff in the kitchen is so busy creating meals for the DoorDash crew that the patrons of the restaurant are really left sitting for a very long time waiting for their food. Or, even waiting for the serving staff to take an order. Today, for example, it took them. I'm almost twenty minutes before they came to take our order. That's just really not acceptable. Then, it took them another twenty minutes before they brought our first plate out. This, while the DoorDash orders stacked up on a central table in the restaurant. At one point, I counted ten waiting for pick up. The second problem I currently have with this restaurant is with the orange flavored chicken I ordered today, which I've had here a million times. Today, the chicken was so tough, it was barely eatable. I was super disappointed! Like I say, I've been coming here forever, and this was absolutely the worst meal I have ever had at this restaurant. Again, times are changing, and I understand that. But sometimes, times are not changing for the better. This restaurant and it's management should really take a long hard look at the way they're dispersing the energy of not only their cooks, but they're serving staff as well, because for a long time, customer like myself, they're turning a lot of people away.
