Bap Kitchen This is a small, clean spot that feels comfortable and not cramped. The food overall is good and enjoyable, though nothing really stood out as amazing. Flavors were solid and easy to eat, not too heavy. We ordered the Hai Phong crab noodle soup, steamed rice cakes, bánh mì with phá lấu, and grilled pig cheeks with chao . Everything tasted fine and met expectations, but some dishes felt a bit safe rather than memorable. Service was friendly and attentive, which I appreciated. Parking is also easy with a spacious lot, which is a nice bonus. Overall, a good place for a casual meal if you're in the area, but probably not a destination spot. Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 4/5

It's been a while I didn't go to Garden Grove unless I needed something for the gardening. We like the nursery in GG. Today I planned to go there and I found this restaurant by accident. I guess it was former Chinese restaurant in the past. There were lots of customers around 12. I am used to eat Pho rice noodles, spring rolls once in a while. That was all I knew about the Vietnamese foods. When I went over the menu, it was tough to understand what ingredients were there in the soup or rice dishes. So hard....for me and my hubby. However, we chose Chinese fried rice w sausages, eggs and hot soup w crab meats, some noodles. Thank God!!! Right choices for the first time!!! The fried rice looked so flavorful w big shrimps. It was heavenly good. For the soup w crab meats, there were crab meat balls, tofu, tons of crab meats w something crispy and chewy veggies like water Cresson. I love love it!! The broth was so flavorful, made me warm, relaxed. I want to try it next time for sure. We had a great lunch time to discover the new ambiance and new cuisines. Pros Price, quality, service: fast service, affordable price, 4 stars Ambiance: casual Cons Menu: so tough to understand for non Vietnamese customers Sauces: unclear what is hot, medium hot, or mild chili sauces for the dipping the meat balls in the soup for me. Overall, we liked the foods. Definitely come soon to try other foods.

If you are looking for Vietnamese soup noodles that aren't the usual Pho or Bun Bo Hue or Vermicelli, this spot offers a large variety of Viet staples with interesting meat choices that aren't super mainstream. Probably the one dish I would recommend above others is the Bun Dau Mam Tom with a variety of fish cakes, tofu, pork, and fermented shrimp paste to dip them in. It is a rare item not served at many Viet locations in the US and if you like funky tastes, then this will be right up your alley.

I discovered this new Vietnamese restaurant in Korean mall. I know this place, it was Chinese restaurant for a while. The generation is getting younger, changing. The parents generation is retired, baby boomer. That is why the restaurant looks very fresh, young. They have rice, soup menus, including hot pot. My wife said, hard to understand the menu, more Vietnamese language not clear English descriptions on the menu. But we found Chinese fried rice w chewy sausages and crab soup w noodles. The service was so fast. Almost right away we got the fried rice and crab soup. Wow...looked amazing. The portion is big enough for 2 people, very tasty. For the fried rice, very crunchy, well balanced w sausages, big shrimps. My wife had crab soup, she loved it. Made warm, sweaty, just like the comfort soup in the winter. Overall, the service and price are very good. The portion is huge. The broth is rich, lots of green veggies, tons of crab meats. She said, I can't stop eating this soup. Sooooo good. We will definitely come again. Will try other Vietnamese cuisines beside fried rice. Hopefully they can upgrade the menu clearer in English descriptions w pictures. Just like us, we don't know about the Vietnamese foods well except Pho, spring rolls.

Ordered Bun Mốc as bun Bo hue wasn't available. First time trying Bun Mốc in general, so I was prepared for pork paste balls. The broth is quite nice and packed with a lot proteins. You get mostly large 4 piece of pork paste balls (kind of Luke warm temp) 2 pieces of fried cha chien , and some spare riblets which were tender fall off the bone. You get some mini toppings as fried pork chicharones. The blanched noodles are quite inconsistent as I found some fragments to be under cooked. Overall- you get bang for your buck on getting the proteins in. Be advised if you're here for on a 30 minute lunch break you won't make it. Upon getting seated - You will endure at least 10 window of waiting to place an order. Recommend the Bun Rieu over Bun Mốc.

My dad's go to place for party food to-go- he especially loves the Lau de/goat stew and think it's the best in OC. As a sit in restaurant, it's a bit small but that only makes the food taste better. I got the bun bo hue and bun dau mam Tom to share and both were so so good. I love the extra spice on the side to add into my bun bo and the mam Tom sauce was extra fishy and so great to dip with the variety of cha. This is my new go to viet restaurant!

Bún đậu mắm tôm & lẫu mắm = Tuyệt vời không đối thủ. Best Hotpot in town. Dine-in or togo is available.

    Bún mắm

One of the best bún mắm in OC. It has all the good ingredients like squid, crispy pork, shrimp, grilled eggplants, peppers stuffed with pork, fish cakes. So yummy and the broth is delicious. It's on the sweeter side which I like. They give the tamarind sauce too. My favorite place to get this dish. The girl server is friendly and helpful.

Old break, rebaked so its too hard to break/ bite

I ordered 2 pha lau banh mi. They gave me 2 old stale breads which were rebaked and too hard to cut/ chew. Then they explained it's new just because I left it too long. I didn't agree and after I complained, they took the old one and send me a new one but I'm wondering if people just keep silent then they will just send them their trash without apologies. I read other 1* comments and I saw they made the same mistakes: savng cost and served old food for customers. That's the Vietnamese way but you can just apply it at home but not for business. Be nice your customer and no more cheating!

Have been to this restaurant many times, and food is always consistent! Came visit to the restaurant last week, and ordered my favorite Grilled Escargot with Garlic Butter and Peppercorn, Grilled Scallops with Cheese, and my all-time favorite Chilean Sea Bass hot pot! The grilled escargots are a must-have when visiting this place! These are perfectly grilled with rich garlic butter for sweetness, and with a slight kick of spiciness from the peppercorn. Don't forget to also dip the escargot meat with black pepper and a few squeeze of fresh lime juice! If you like melted cheese, then the grilled scallops with cheese would be the perfect match. Each scallop is covered melted cheese and comes sizzling on a hot plate when ordered! Last but certainly not least, my favorite dish of this restaurant is the Chilean Sea Bass hot pot. The order comes with your own tabletop gas stove, along with a hot pot filled with a tom yum like sour soup base. For ingredients, it also includes a plate with slices of pineapple, quarter cut fresh tomato slices, fresh bean sprouts, rice noodles, and a full plate of large pieces of Chilean Sea Bass. Just put all the ingredients in the hot pot and let it cook for 5-10mins on high, I promise you it is one of the best soups you will ever have! Service is good as always. This place always seems to be busy, so you may have to be on the waitlist during certain business hours (eg holidays, prime dinner time, etc). Parking wise, the restaurant is located in a busy plaza, and so you may have to drive around a few times before finding an open spot. However as I said earlier, it's worth the wait. Highly recommended.

The restaurant has a lively atmosphere, the staff work hard to keep up with the crowds, and the service is friendly despite how busy they are.
