It is more on the sweet side, which I prefer. 4/ The rice is just perfect cook, not too dried or too sticky. Located in a busy plaza, Com Tam Bui is sandwiched between the Chuze Fitness and the supermarket. We came on a weekday afternoon, so it wasn't crowded at all, and there are plenty of tables inside. You can choose between rice or vermicelli, and then you can select up to 3 items/meats. It's the same price if you pick 1 item or 3 items. I got the com tam (broken rice) with suon nuong (BBQ pork rib) and chao tom (shrimp). My husband got the com tam with thit nuong (BBQ pork meat), chinese sausage, and egg. We both really enjoyed the rice, and for my dish in particular, they were very generous with the portion of suon nuong. The portion was perfect to fill you up without feeling overstuffed. I enjoyed the pickled veggies on the side although the flavor was light/mild and I wish it was stronger, haha. Overall, a solid place for com tam! I like how spacious it is inside, although the floor/tables seemed a little sticky and not the cleanest, lol. When this place first opened, it was one of our family's favorite com tam spots. But after our recent visit, I don't think we'll be returning. Keep in mind, this review and 2 stars is relevant to this specific visit and our experience during this particular visit. We've experienced great visits before, but this visit was not it and the review below reflects our experience. Prior to our recent visit, the food was great. The thit nuong and suon nuong were really good so we used to visit often and recommend this place to friends and family. It's located in a plaza shared with many businesses. Parking in front of the restaurant is a bit tight, so we park by the market and walk over. The store itself is quaint, typical average tables with utensils, and they'll give you a bottle of fish sauce to pour out into small bowls that are located on the table. Our recent visit may have been a very off day, but I don't know what happened. We did visit towards the evening, so maybe things had slowed down, but it isn't an excuse to lack on everything. Our food was barely warm, the portions were significantly smaller than our previous visits, and we ordered hot teas, but were given room temperature teas. The "hot" teas are $2, so we paid for room temp drinks when we ordered *hot* tea?? They were in styrofoam cups and the teas were completely room temp, so what happened there? The pickled veggies were sweet instead of being tart and sweet. Same with the soup. It was sugary sweet and the soup was also room temperature. Our rice was also barely warm, if anything - it was room temp, like everything else. The only thing that was remotely warm was the suon nuong; everything else was nowhere close to being warm. We basically paid for a meal of room temperature food. The service wasn't terrible, but they didn't do much, so it's not like there's much to comment on. We were told if paying with a card, there would be a 20% service fee. Not sure if we heard it correctly, but 20% is insane. So prepare some cash to avoid this fee if you'll be visiting. Again, I don't know if this was an off day, but it seemed like everything was off, and this was a disappointing visit. Went here with my parents for Father's Day. Negatives: -cleanliness, the tables are sticky and the men's restroom had a lot of small flies. Would not go back to this restroom. Positives: -taste, the broken rice is good with decent flavor. Very similar flavor to com tam Xi gon without the crazy long wait. -value, better value than most com tam places. I would return just for the value. -service, quick and responsive no complaints here. What makes it different from other places, they allow you to pick your 3 toppings and charge extra when you want more than that. Location- Located inside a shopping plaza, decent amount of parking. Restaurant is located on the corner facing the driveway entrance. They have ample tables and chairs. Restroom is limited, but they have sinks outside to wash hands. Food- It is solely focus on com tam, so it was nice to pick out your toppings. Toppings filled up the plate and could be two meals worth for some people. Since it is com tam, it comes with soup and pickled vegetables as well. Everything tastes good, but the rice was a little too moist. Plus, if you are dining in, you get a small free jello dessert. Price- It's reasonable and average pricing, considering there are many com tam places nearby, if you are interested in pork chop, there's another place known for offering large pieces. This place is good because you can customize your plate of the toppings you desire. However, make sure you bring cash or else you will be charge 3% convenience fee for using your card. Today I bought the to go for family, the rice so dry and fish sauce in little container too small not enough.

They don't operate according to their posted business hours. The business says it opens at 8 AM, but when I arrived, I had to wait a long time, only to be told that the food wasn't ready and they wouldn't open for customers. I can't comment on the food since I didn't get to try it, but the customer service was extremely poor. If you're not able to open on time, you shouldn't list those hours on your business profile. People may be coming from far away and end up not being served at all, which can ruin their entire day. I will never come back read more

They do not SKIMP on the portion of food. We went for a late dinner and luckily it wasn't busy (it was a weekday). The vermincelli noodles with bbq pork and egg roll surely hit the spot. However I wished there was another egg roll to balance all the other ingredients. The meat was very juicy and had a nice charred taste. My family got the broken rice dishes and surprisingly they were able to finish the whole plate, given they don't each much. I chose thịt nướng, chả trứng and tàu hủ ky. There was nothing particularly memorable about my com tam experience here - the chả trứng and tàu hủ ky were pretty dry. Yikes. No bueno. In all honesty, it's not a very good value here and portions are small. They just kinda assemble your plate. I'd skip this place if you're on the hunt for a good com tam place. The food portion is decent. Ribs were flavorful. The restaurant seems clean. The only regrettable thing that made me not wanting to come back here is the 2% credit card fee charged to customers. Their reason is because the bank charges the fee. This BS excuse from multiple restaurants in this area needs to be stopped. This is a business expense that can be claimed for tax deduction. With your charge of $15 for a plate, you can't expect the customers pay for your business cost then claim the fee for tax deduction end of year. My favorite place for delicious Cơm Tấm. Fish sauce is not salty, and is lightly sweet. Charcoal grilled Sướng Nướng is tasty, chewy. Chả is unique and authentic like in Vietnam. If you like Vietnamese broken rice this is very well the best place to eat at. Service was great and fast despite us coming close to closing time. Granted, our group spoke fluent Vietnamese to them, so treatment/understanding might vary in English, but they're still incredibly kind. As for the food itself, BIG portions for a GREAT price, and an AMAZING taste. I'm not from California, so I often feel like I get my penny's fleeced at overpriced restaurants, but this was the opposite. Flavor was on point for every single item -- the fish sauce was perfectly seasoned, an unlimited amount of Thai chilis, the char taste on the pork items were perfectly balanced. The booth area next to the corner smells fishy, please do something about it. Food was amazing like always but I would avoid suon nuon pork chop. It is too dry. The first impression of the place was cold and boring since not much of inviting and the welcome was lukewarm. I guess the place was packed prior our group arrival since all the plates on tables weren't cleaned at all. The service was okey, they dropped off the menu and gave us 3mins and took the ordered. Not much of conversation nor tell us about the foods. The foods came out quickly and look great, but somehow at room temperature but it's aok for the type of the dish. Came here on a Friday morning and ordered 2 orders of com tam. One was with thit nuong, suon nuong, bi and the second one was thit nuong suon nuong and ta Hu ky. I loove com tam so I had to check this place out! The menu is very straightforward and easy to order from. Look at how huge these menus are and the font size! It was perfect for my grandpa to easily read everything. Good prices and good com tam. They were pretty busy Saturday lunchtime with many people coming in and out for to go orders.
