I didn't even know this was an Ethan Stowell joint before coming here but as an ESR fan I'm so glad we decided to try this place! It was kind of on a whim, after a long drawn out conversation about where to go for dinner, we remembered there was that pizza place around the corner we'd mentioned wanting to try. We just missed happy hour, unfortunately, as the HH prices are really solid and the regular menu is a bit on the pricey side. We each got a cocktail (midnight in Parma for me, love the gin/lambrusco combo), then bruschetta for apps, and two pizzas (the A&O and the funghi). Cocktail was great, just what I needed after a long day. The pizza was really nice, love that thin, tasty crust. The funghi is very subtly truffle-y, just the right amount. Honestly, though, the bruschetta was banging and I'd come back just to eat that. That amount of food was perfect for two hungry people and the service here is nice, too. Ambiance is perfect for a date night as well. read more

All in all this place was awesome there were just a few things that could be improved but I'd still 110% come back & we will!! We ordered the meatballs, Caesar salad, burrata, 2 Brussel sprouts, Parma and the A&O pizza, a calzone, and the pepperonata pasta. All the food was to die for except the salad, I think maybe they forgot to add the Caesar dressing. It had no flavor whatsoever! :( but the Brussel sprouts were some of the best I've ever had so totally made up for it! We placed the order online several hours in advance to be ready at 7pm and it wasn't all ready until around 720pm. Not a huge deal, but maybe a time frame as opposed to an exact time when placing ahead could be helpful. The appetizers were ready closer to 7 but the pizza wasn't so after 20 mins the appetizers weren't as warm anymore once the pizza was done. Overall the food was delicious though & I think very well priced for quality and portions. And altho we didn't dine in, the few interactions I had with their employees were great! I feel very lucky that Bar Cotto is across the street from my new apartment. After moving in, my boyfriend and I wanted something quick and inexpensive. Bar Cotto has a great happy hour from 9pm-closing which worked out perfectly. I ordered the gnocchi because I am a pasta lover, and I was not disappointed. It is amazing and I've already gone back to have it again. I also thoroughly enjoyed the caesar salad. My boyfriend loves pizza in general and definitely enjoyed the pizzas we have tried so far. You can't really go wrong with the happy hour menu overall, especially the bottles of wine! read more

This is a GREAT place to go for a good night of food and libations with friends. My wife and I were joined by another couple and shared Salumi charcuterie boards with burrata cheese, Caesar salad, amazing Brussels sprouts, Margherita pizza, ricotta gnocchi, peperonata pasta and finished with a divine slice of tiramisu. It was way too much food for us but each dish was EXCELLENT! Their Spritz cocktail was a perfect addition to the meal. Overall a very solid ESR restaurant for food and even better for drinks. I got the mezcal one to start and it was amazing. Nice zing of heat paired with the sweetness of pineapple over a massive ice cube. . My friend got the mule and also commented that it was a level up to your average bars mule. We started with the pork belly crostini and that was definitely the right choice. Seared broccoli was also a favorite from this meal and was really well done. The beet salad also had a very nice dressing and was nice. The meat board was great (we got spicy coppa, prosciutto di Parma, and prosciutto parmacotto) but we messed up. We didn't get bread since we had pizzas coming but heard after this was a grave mistake. Do the bread!! (Though I have no tasting notes ‍) Pizzas were all very good though my favorite was the mushroom with truffle oil. It had just a hint of truffle but enough to make it a tasty treat. read more

My favorite place to get turnt and eat some yummy pizza!! I've always been an Ethan Stowell fan since I was first introduced to Tavolata's yummy pastas. My curiosity of course got the best of me one night when my pizza cravings led me here! Two words: Margherita Pizza. The crust is unbelievably flaky, soft, crunchy and doughy. It's juxtapositional features are what blows my mind! The tomato sauce it perfectly tangy and the cheese just has that crazy pull to it as your taking a bite off of your slice and attempting to ingest this beautiful creation! The drinks here are always bomb dot com. I always stick with the daily special; it keeps me on my toes and allows me to try new things! They are beautifully concocted and each sip is equally as satisfying until the bottom of the cup. I still have yet to try more on their menu, but if just one pizza is already making me feel this type of way, it's definitely worth a peep for you! :) read more

We're so happy to have found this gem in our neighborhood! It's a cozy spot that serves up some of the tastiest wood fired pizza (read chewy crust with just the right amount of char and toppings). The cocktail menu is on point, but the beer selection could use a little more. Service was friendly and atmosphere was cozy. We've been Via Tribunali fans for a long time. My wife and I only stayed in Seattle for three nights and we went to Bar Cotto the first night there. The plan was to go somewhere different every night to try as many things possible in our three days, but Bar Cotto was so good that we came back the 2nd night as well. Clean, great food, great drinks, great service and everything was reasonably priced. Both nights we shared the Cesar Salad to start (excellent) and both nights we shared a pizza. The first we tried the Salsiccia and the 2nd night we had the Pepperoni pizza, but requested they add anchovies. Both came out really good. The first night I just had a Maker's Mark and coke and the proportion of Maker's to coke was spot on. The 2nd night we both tried one of the house cocktails (Twilight in Parma), specifically requesting they use Hendrick's Gin and it was awesome. We both had two each. Lastly, we only had dessert on the 2nd night, but it was incredible. I can't remember the name of the dish, but it was an ice cream sandwich using freshly made chocolate chip cookie as the breading, vanilla ice cream in the center and a dish of mint oil and chocolate that you could drizzle over the sandwich. Holy s#!+ it was good. I'd highly recommend this place. We stayed at an AirBnB in Capitol Hill, so it was an easy walk for us, but I'd still recommend an Uber in if you're coming from further out. read more

Revisited Bar Cotto for dinner tonight. Ordered the Salsiccia Pizza, Ceasar Salad, Meatballs & wine. The 1st wine was a recommendation from the server, which was a white burgundy that went well with all of the food. The pizza was amazing and might possibly be my new favorite Neoploitan style pizza on Capitol Hill. The meatballs were so zesty #loved. The Ceasar Salad could have been passed on. It was overly drenched in dressing. The service was great. Had the opportunity to have a lovely chat with Brandon the owner and I will be back. To reiterate I loved how zesty the tomatoes sauce was on the meatballs and pizza. So many places have bland tomatoe sauces and that's no concern here. read more

07/24/2018 I had to fight so hard not to order everything on the menu for the appetizers for three people eating there including myself. Everything we ate there was just amazing!!!! Writing a review almost two years later, I do not even remember the specifics of what we all ordered and ate but I remember regretting not ordering everything on the appetizer menu. We were concerned when we ordered 5/8 things on the appetizer menu and saw the other three things other people were eating when we were leaving and promised to ourselves to come back and order everything on the appetizer menu next time. Nice atmosphere, great food (the appetizers and main dishes) and we hope and pray to get back there to enjoy their food again when we get a chance. I've been to Bar Cotto a couple times with friends. Yelp has listed "not recommended for large groups" and I definitely agree- but that hasn't stopped our friends from choosing Bar Cotto. They always do their best to accommodate, but it can be a little bit of a wait. I had the Night in Parma and enjoyed my drink- although I think it was a little light on the alcohol. My boyfriend had two cocktails that were heavy on the alcohol so I'm not sure about the consistency of experiences here. It's a nice cozy place that we've enjoyed eating/grabbing a drink at. It's classier and not as grungy as most of the bars lower on the hill. I don't like pizza (weird I know), but I find Bar Cotto's pizza some of the preferable kind. It's not overly greasy or cheesy and I like the unique toppings. My favorite here is the Brussels sprouts though. I don't like Brussels sprouts at all, but something about these actually made me unable to stop eating them! I've also tried the meatballs and would stay away (kind of bland and flavorless). Their appetizers are a little on the pricey side, but I think their pizzas/pastas are pretty reasonably priced for the amount you can get and share. Overall I've had great experiences here and would recommend it if you're in the area. I'm not sure I'd recommend walking all the way up the hill for Bar Cotto from the main downtown area, but it's a great stop if you're headed that way anyways. read more

The place was packed on a Friday night at 7:15! We finally got seated at 8:45. They did give us a call 10min before so we didn't have to wait there. The Campagna Pizza and spaghetti & Meatballs were amazing! Aperol spritz's were also very good. I've traveled all over Italy and this place exceeded my expectations! I went to this restaurant with a group of 9 last night. The service was excellent and the food was wonderful. We had a wide range of tastes in our group, and there was definitely something for everybody. And, everyone loved their food. We were there in time to order some items from the Happy Hour food menu... great options there for good prices. And, they had good drink specials on that menu as well. It is a small, comfortable atmosphere. We made reservations for our large party and accommodated us perfectly. The restaurant wasn't too noisy, so we could hear a conversation across the table. One of my favorite pizza places in Capitol Hill (mainly due to their close proximity and amazing happy hour). It's a small restaurant and fills up quick, typically we've managed to slide into their bar or outdoor seating. All the menu items are extremely flavorful and as mentioned above they have a great happy hour. The food and service has been consistently good every time we've gone! As of December Bar Cotto has undergone new management. The day I went it was a bit bonkers and they didn't have the pizzas I wanted. This is when I learned they were now under new management and they had just re-opened. They were in the process of getting everything back on the menu. The new owner was out busting his butt to a full restaurant. I was really impressed to see him out there running the show, all the while keeping a calm demeanor. He took time to explain to me what was going on and apologized for the slight chaos. I'm glad to see Bar Cotto is still in good hands. I'll have to update my review when I go back next to see how they're doing. read more

Delicious, so damn delicious! After returning from a vacation in Italy, my wife and I were looking for some authentic pizza in Seattle and we definitely found it! We started off with the salumi meats which were a solid app. Make sure to get the tostada with it for a few dollars extra, definitely worth it. As for the pizza, the sauce, the cheese, the crust, the texture, damn it's good. The Mortadella is a classic twist on a Hawaiian pizza - featuring sliced mortadella, jalapeños and pineapple! If you're craving some pizza to transport you back to Rome, this is the place. Food: Ordered the Parma and Bufala pizzas and they were incredible. The Parma had arugula which added just the right peppery taste. As for the Bufala, it took me back to Rome straightaway, with the deliciously funky water buffalo cheese. YUM. Also ordered the heirloom tomato salad, which was a nice accompaniment. Service: The bartender was great, but our server was a bit inattentive and stoic. Since moving to Seattle I have become a huge fan of Chef Ethan Stowell. I guess Monday was my lucky day because after a long flight home, I decided to pop in here for HH for a bite. Having dined at Tavolata in Belltown and Tavolata in Cap Hill, I was anticipating Chef's Italian flair to the menu. Rather than hand made pastas, Bar Cotto focuses more on salumi and pizzas. I ordered a Fennel Sausage Pizza ($10 during HH, $16 normally), a garden salad, a cocktail and a glass of wine ($5 during HH, $9 normally). During Happy Hour their prices are 25-30% less than the normal prices (until 7PM daily). The pizza was crispy yet chewy with wonderful toppings full of flavor. The salad was so simple but amazing flavors with the combination of chevre cheese and garden strawberries. Lovely meal all around. Service was friendly and attentive. The menu was Italian but stuck true to the theme of bar/pizza dishes. I can't wait to try Anchovies & Olives next door. I really like the way each menu/concept is designed at each Ethan Stowell restaurant and this one absolutely surpassed expectations! read more

Holy cow this is good pizza. My husband and I have lived in and spent time in NYC, Chicago, and Italy and have pizza at least once a week. This was the best pizza I've personally ever had. The sauce is spectacular, the ingredients and toppings are high quality, but the crust. The crust is so shockingly delicious. I have never taken home leftovers before, I'm just not that kinda girl, but tonight I took a box. The vibe of this place is excellent. Great for dates, would bring my parents here. It is so very clean and tidy while also being very warm and cozy, which isn't easy to do in my opinion. If to you bread, craft salumi & wine are the three food groups , then Ethan Stowell's Bar Cotto has you covered, and then some. Bar Cotto is a very small atmospheric restaurant adjacent to Stowell's Anchovy & Olives, with its own wood fire oven, and limited, cozy seating: ten tables for two and ten seats along a bar. The back half of the restaurant is taken up by a white subway tiled pizza oven and a stylish open prep area for pizza, bruschetta & salads, which along with homemade salumi, constitute almost the entire menu for Bar Cotto. This is a pizza, salumi, salad & drinks spot, and it does these things very well in a sophisticated yet wood-hewn, rustic setting. I kept calling this place Bar Coppa all night, as my husband laughed on and on. This must have been due to a Freudian slip given the prolific amounts of great homemade salami, porchetta, coppa & spec wafting by on wooden boards. Or perhaps someone slipped me an unusually strong glass of Sangiovese. Either way, it fits, as this place is very meat forward. They even make their own hard-to-find namesake: prosciutto cotto. The pizza here is excellent, particularly the truffle & mushroom. Interesting that one of the better pizzas here contains no meat at all, but a tasty truffle, trumpet, fior di latte combo with a chewy, crisp crust & baked at very high temperatures, just like we like it. A good pizza experience, nice atmosphere, and a tiny, intimate spot where you can enjoy grabbing a bite with a few friends who like meat & bread and bread and meat and meat & bread, oh, and wine, beer or cocktails. 3.5 stars. I love cured meats. We ordered 3 salumi -- finnochionna, spicy coppa, and porchetta. My favorite was the spicy coppa. Although it wasn't spicy at all, its texture was my favorite. We also had the pork belly bruschetta. It was a little too much on the sweet side for me. The onions and the mustard was very sweet, I wish it could have been more savory. Lastly, we ordered the Nduja pizza, because Boccalone in SF is my favorite meat shop ever and was one of the things I would miss the most moving to Seattle. Sadly, the pizza was not very memorable. At the end of our meal, they gave us a sample of their house made pasta noodles to take home. I cooked it up a few days later and it was really delicious. read more

Uhhhhh-MAZING! In every way! Great service and staff - I made a reservation for 4 at 7.45pm on a Saturday... or so I thought. I had actually made the reservation for the next night (fail), but the staff not only still found us some seats on a bar table/stools outside but managed to move us inside to a full table by shuffling around some of the other reservations. Seriously so awesome! Food - Everything we ordered was SOOO good! As starters, we ordered the lacinato kale salad, charred broccoli and heirloom tomatoes - these all tasted fresh and not overly dressed/oily. Then we had the salsiccia (homemade fennel sausage) and funghi pizzas - thin base, puffy crusts, fresh ingredients, not too much cheese (which can be a good thing as evidenced here) and EPICALLY delicious, especially the funghi pizza with the garlic mince. Also, the pizzas didn't feel heavy, and I think you could easily eat (i.e. inhale) like a whole pizza if you so chose (or can't resist). A really great place. Tried this place out on a recommendation from a friend for a hot happy hour spot (half off pizzas, discounted beer and wine). I am a pizza fanatic, so that sounded awesome. TBH, I was disappointed. - Ambiance: the spot is nice, clean, and airy, with cozy booths, but the casual yet sophisticated vibe was thrown off by the dance music... that was a little weird. - Service: too perky and eager to please. But, that is better than indifferent, so maybe I'm being ridiculous to complain about that. I'm just used to Seattle-style (read: aloof) servers. - Food: Tried the salame and the salsiccia - so glad we were there during HH. Thought that ~$8 per pizza was reasonable for the quality, but that was at half price. I can't quite put my finger on it... the quality of the ingredients was good, they were hot and fresh, but the 'MMMMmmmMm' factor was missing and it was a little greasy. I suggest cheating with MSG. Or tweaking the recipes. Dunno. - Drinks: Sour Sunday was fine (very attractive, but not craft quality delicious). On the other hand, the tequila-based I Blame My Mother was AWESOME. That was the best part of this excursion. Mmmmmm! My only issue with the place is that the last time I went the waitress and host (or maybe shift manager) were all over each other and flirting left and right. Love. I love Ethan Stowell restaurants and have been meaning to check this place out since it opened. The bf and I snagged a seat at the bar and ordered the escarole salad, a serving of housemade porchetta w/ torta (fried pieced of dough), the parma pizza, and the pizza w/ sausage. The salad was fresh and a good contrast to the heaviness of the rest of our meal, but I'm not sure I'd order it again. There are just too many other options that look more interesting like the eggplant and the pork belly bruschetta. You get the option of choosing a 1, 3, or 5 meat board for varying prices. The prochetta we got was tender, flavorful, and overall just delicious. The serving size was around 10 slices which I thought was generous. We got a side of the torta to go w/ it. Torta is basically little fried dough pieces that come out hot and they're great eaten alone or w/ the meat. Our pizza's were great. Thin crust, with wonderful flavor. Both were tasty. Service was good and the food came out quick. I can't wait to be back to try out all the other salumis they offer.
