Bar Frites and their authentic French was fantastic to stumble upon. When I saw they're located in a mall, I paused, but needlessly so. If you love French and/or top notch food with excellent service and reasonable prices, I recommend Bar Frites. Their brunch menu has something for everyone. I saw my neighbor's salad and was in awe of how good it looked. I ordered the Beverly grilled chicken salad- $26 and it was delicious and hard to finish as it's huge. I'm going to start with the negatives - the table we were at was very cold and the service was very slow. Appetizers took way too long to come out. Now for the positives - the food was excellent. Another neighborhood favorite! definitely a go to when I want something close, good, & filling. My favorite thing on the menu is the Thai mussels. I honestly come here just for that. I heard the brunch is good so I definitely will be trying that soon. Always good service & always busy but never an issue as I always walk in & never have to wait. Hubby and I came here for lunch, with our friends. The restaurant is one of their many restaurants with different names. This is a huge restaurant with a high ceiling and nice decor type of place. Adolfo was our server. This guy didn't mess around, attentive and friendly. I bet they train their workers very well. We ordered from the lunch menu. We had mussels, Asian duck salad, French onion soup, rib-eye steak, and ended with some chocolate mousse. Mussels was excellent! The rib-eye steak was delicious with super tender meat. I'm not a meat eater but because Hubby tried this dish before he recommended me to try it. It was worth it! The French onion soup was not bad. The chocolate mousse was fantastic! The service was choppy with 13 waiters walking around, more waiters than customers at the time in the restaurant, unable to get anyone's attention. Drinks were very slow to get to us for each round, waited probably 10 minutes. The drinks were pretty good once we did get them. The food was bland, not cooked to the temperature ordered, and was not visually all that appealing. The eggs were supposed to be over easy but instead I got over hard. Such a busy place, I think I liked Bar Frites better the 1st time around. The truffle pizza I ordered, barely tasted like truffle and it was pretty chewy. The steak was delicious, and they were kid of enough to give us all the different sauces to try. My friends got some sort of fancy chicken parmigiana which was called something else but essentially chicken parm. Who knows, service was ok, crowded so that's probably why, we went on a Thursday. Not very impressed. Overpriced mediocre food that lacks finesse. FOH did not acknowledge our party of 4 at all however we were promptly taken to the table by one of the wait staff. Let's start with the good - the appetizers were excellent. Chicken liver and foie gra mousse was simply out of this world- great texture, super smooth and extremely delicious. Red onion marmalade and very nicely toasted crostini made it a perfect combo. Salad Nicoise was very fresh, perfectly dressed, tuna could have been seared just a tiny bit less but it tasted great. Loved the crème brûlée as well. Now to the not so good- a $41 most likely 6-8 oz hanger steak was a huge disappointment. And it comes with tiny portion of very mediocre pomme frittes. It was stone cold, hard on the outside and very chewy. I sent it back. I was quite frankly taken aback when not even 2 minutes later my plate was brought back to me with the same steak but it was just heated up on a very hot grill and yes it was warm but it was no longer medium rare. Waiter didn't care. Any restaurant would gladly make another dish in order to satisfy the customer- but not here. Grilled chicken paillard was one of the worst chicken dishes I have ever seen and tasted - plate looked messy, vegetables were too charred and the chicken was as dry as the Sahara desert, so dry it scratched the roof of my mouth. On the other hand pan roasted organic chicken with spinach and potato purée had really nice very flavors and braised short ribs had a decent portion and were simple but good. Wow, what just happened? Zero stars if I could. I came here hungry with my husband, son and daughter-in-law. As a long time customer, we were excited to come here. We were greeted at the door by the host, and taken to the last booth by the bathroom in a completely empty space. (It's Tuesday 3pm) Ok, no biggie, then after being seated, served water, and about to be given menus, when we were told we were not permitted inside the establishment because my son was wearing a tank top. Btw we weren't told that from the beginning, "Ok", we said, a little annoying, because the place was kinda empty, but those are the rules i guess, he told us our option was to sit outdoors, and it wouldn't be a problem, so we were escorted outside, seated, menu given, served water and even started taking our drink orders. As we were contemplating what to order and looking forward to eating, the manager, idk what he was, never introduced himself, came to us like a bully, tells us we are not allowed to sit outdoors, it's literally in a parking lot and very few people dining outside. At that point I told him we were told by the server we where in fact permitted to sit here and that his server had escorted us to this table, he rudely said we were lying and we weren't told to sit here, I was taken aback and I politely said he should take it up to his worker, and to call him outside and ask him in fact if he seated us, and he wouldn't have it. He continued to blame us, gave us such a disgraceful, rude attitude and in our faces, he told us leave now. At that point we were so upset, and outraged and told him he just lost business by not serving us, and he replied he doesn't care because if the manager happens to come by he will be in trouble. He literally blamed us, and continued trash talking in our faces trying to walk us away from there, as if we were some kind of criminals. What a garbage person he is! Never had I ever experienced this kind of trash talking manager from a restaurant where dining out these days is expensive to begin with. What an ugly character of a "manager" Shame on him! On Monday, August 27, 2024, my daughter, nephew, and I visited the restaurant for dinner. We were initially seated outside near the flower pots. While we were waiting to be served, my daughter noticed a mouse running from one flower pot to another. We requested to be moved to a different table and were then seated in what I would describe as the second row of outdoor seating. Unfortunately, the issues continued. The Tuna Poke arrived without any tuna, and the martini was served only after our meal, even though it was ordered at the same time as the food. The service was lacking overall. As we were finishing our dessert, the sunset brought a new problem: about 20-30 mice appeared, initially around the flower pots but soon moving closer to our table. I called the waiter over, who dismissed our concerns by saying it was "just a bad night." I then spoke with the manager, who responded with "not our mice." To my dismay, I did not receive any form of apology or compensation. The dessert and martini, which we left uneaten due to the mice, were not refunded, and my bill was not discounted or adjusted in any way. The manager's response of "not our mice" was particularly disappointing. Although the outdoor dining area was crowded and I could have made a scene, I chose to remain composed. We had an awesome meal from start to finish. When we showed up with our troop of eleven after our collective girls gymnastics practice on a late Sunday morning, even though we had not called to make a weekend reservation, they were able to accommodate us and fill the bellies of five girls and their hungry parents. Some of us chose breakfast options while others opted for lunch but no one was disappointed with their selections. Incredibly delicious french onion soup, and French toast, eggs Benedict, huevos rancheros, steak and eggs- all very tasty. It's Long Island so it was not cheap, but it didn't break the bank either. If you like lots of noise so that you can't hear your conversation at your own table; and if you like poorly prepared paltry portions of food that are as over priced as the adult beverages are than this is your place. We passed by this restaurant for years, never feeling any compulsion to eat there, until a friend asked us to meet them there. We are so sorry that we did because, it truly was one of the worst dining experiences ever. The manager of this restaurant, who we know is not one of the owners, was very dower when we entered for a late lunch. He offered no friendly greeting probably because we were not one of his "regulars". Later, as the manager ate his lunch, he and the staff focused on the last few occupied tables so much so that it compelled us to leave before we were ready to do so. We should have suggested to our friends to go to mainstays such as MIM's or STRESA, both restaurants serve far better food, better portions, better priced with much better wait staff. I decided to come to Bar Frites for a girl's dinner with my friend who I haven't seen in a while. Looking forward to a night of girl talk and good food, we were disappointed by a fire alarm that went off for 20 minutes, blaring in our ears with seizure-inducing flashing lights around the whole restaurant. We would have left on the spot, but we were in the middle of eating our appetizer with more food on the way. During the 20 minute violent interruption, we looked around raising our hands wondering if there was a fire and needed to evacuate or if everything was okay. Some people scurried out and others acted like nothing was happening. The extremely loud noise and blaring emergency lights made our eating experience extremely unpleasant and of course we were not able to catch up chatting during that time. The reason I write this is not to fault them for something that was out of their control (kitchen smoke causing fire alarms to go off) but it was the way in which they handled the situation that was frustrating. For two people we had a $200 bill, part of coming to a fancy restaurant and paying a high price is also the experience and the ambiance. At the very least they could've comped a drink or appetizer for the inconvenience. When my friend politely asked if they would they said that they would not. This was after not having anyone come up to us for 20 minutes while we were unsure if there was an emergency, and also we had to ask if someone can send a waiter to take our order to begin with. So for an expensive restaurant the service needs work. The food : We ordered oysters, Caesar salad, linguine with clams and a Banana tart. Food was okay, not spectacular, but the tart in the banana tart was hard as a rock. Bar Frites was delicious at a great price! I went here for lunch on a Monday and I was surprised how packed it was. They have a classy interior and large patio outside. We got a nice table on the outside patio and ordered off the Prix Fixe menu which was $23 and came with an appetizer, entree, and desert. This restaurant had more of a European feel with the waitstaff where you need to flag them down if you need something but they will get it for you quick and your water is always filled. Asian Duck Frisée salad : Had a poached egg on top with crispy duck strips over a bed of lettuce that was absolutely amazing I could have just gotten a larger version of this Salmon on Brioche: this was your typically lox on bread bites it was ok Hanger steak with frites: was ordered medium rare and came out perfect more on the black and blue side which I like and the frites were thin and crunchy just the way I like them Braised short ribs over mashed potatoes : wow this was amazing the short rib mashed potato combo was so good with every bite and I will come back just for this Desert: Vanilla Ice Cream that was creamy and smooth and the Chocolate Mousse had a great fluffy thickness. Crowded, loud even without music, it's off the back parking lot of the Wheatley Plaza mall in Greenvale. You need a reservation for Sunday lunch indoors. For outdoor seating, you show up and are wait-listed. Pricey, but generally not outrageous by late 2022 inflationary standards, for example $4 for coffee, $16 for a Bloody Mary, $19 for an omlette or an apple/pear salad. Calamari salad was $28. Service was borderline wierd. Our waiter automatically refilled water glasses, but not coffee cups. I asked and our waiter said my apple/pear salad didn't come with bread and butter. The menu had a very pricey bread basket on the menu for $16 for the table. They had three nice breads on display behind the host's podium, but our waiter told me the one on top was only for display and the one in the middle, a baguette, was available. When I asked for the round crusty sour dough bread on the bottom, he repeated the baguette was available, and I asked why I couldn't have the round crusty sour dough bread? He finally relented and let me have it ... for free. I mostly enjoyed my medium-sized apple/pear salad. The fresh apples and pears were cut julienned and served on a bed of mixed greens with slivers of slightly hard pecorino cheese and candied walnuts under light dressing. I've never understood why walnuts had to be candied in salads (they'd be better fresh and crisp and without whatever they use to sweeten it), but of course it's "a la mode." Also, to me, granny smith apples and anjou pears, which they used, are among the least tasty ... better would have been honeycrisp or macintosh and bartlett or bosc. My coffee was decent and they served my half and half in a tiny metal pitcher (nicer than those tiny commercial plastic containers that require you to peel off the top and pray it's not too old). Came here for brunch last weekend with my boyfriend. Bar Frites has a ton of outdoor seating (most of which is shaded), so it's the perfect place to come when it's hot outside. My boyfriend has been here before, but I hadn't. Our server, Pato, was beyond incredible. Very friendly and attentive. The service here is fantastic; Every employee is nice and extremely efficient to keep up with high volume. We ordered a dozen oysters and I ordered the mushroom quiche. The oysters were some of the most best, freshest oysters I've ever had and the mushroom quiche was delicious. I highly recommend ordering (no pics because I was starving). The mix of mushroom, Gruyère, and carmelized onions was so, so good. I am pescatarian and find a lot of places don't have a lot of options for brunch, but Bar Frites definitely did. My one minor complaint would be the seating can get really tight. It wasn't so much an issue for us, as we got there early, but as we were leaving, the tables were getting closer and closer together. Doing rainy Saturday errands with my daughter. We decided to go to Bar Frites when we finished. Arrived there around 1:40pm without a reservation. Restaurant was packed; didn't expect great table since we did not have a reservation. We were seated at a table for 2 next to a party of 8 or 10 women and an empty table for 4 on the other side. The seat directly next to our table was empty where the group was seated, but a woman returned from the restroom to join the group & was perpendicular to our table and practically seated on top of our table. We saw the ladies commenting about how close we were, and we also were not comfortable. We asked to be moved. Took us to table right by the door where ppl waiting for tables were standing by the table. We said we would eat at the bar. Were seated at bar around 2pm. Bill was $210. Left 18% tip. Around 3:40pm we were told by bartender that ppl were waiting to be seated at the bar...basically inviting us to leave. By that time there were plenty of empty seats at the tables. No one was waiting at the door. We always frequent Poll restaurants and have had several special celebrations in private rooms @ Hendricks Tavern. Just ate at Hendricks last week. Regularly eat at The Bryant. This is the second negative review for a Poll restaurant in 6 months' time. The last was for Bryant & Cooper. Today's experience would never have happened at The Bryant which is on par with Bar Frites. Disappointing. read more

A few tips on execution for the food and service but otherwise tasty and despite the crowd I would return for the drinks and food. The bread basket is very abundant, good fresh bread served with butter. The macaroni gratin with ham is pretty good it's got texture from the broiling of the cheese, served piping hot in a cast iron skillet, creamy and delicious it's overall a good dish. The baby fried chicken was served over the French fries which made them soggy. The mussels in tomato sauce were good but not as hot for temperature this restaurant may consider serving them enclosed or covered by a dish and add a little parsley for garnish and brightness. The dessert was a strawberry Napoleon that was light and indulgent at the same time, the cookies were buttery and crunchy, the strawberries were fresh and delicious. I ordered a dirty Martini which was executed perfectly. For service our food took a long time, attention was needed for fresh ground pepper, a container and we continually had to flag down our server or busboy for service. The menu and quality of Bar Frites has changed significantly. Some things to know. They got rid of their children's menu (which offered great deals). Now the only options for little children are adult-portion dishes (which are expensive). My favorite dish was the filet mignon with bearnaise sauce. They literally got rid of all their homemade steak sauces, expect peppercorn. And they overcooked both our steaks and our burgers. My mother in law described her burger (which looked horrible) as disgusting. We sent it back. The next iteration was identically burnt and inedible. In all fairness, they took it off our check. But they did nothing to make up for our dining experience. The kicker was when the manager yelled at the bus boys to clear our table, after which they just hovered over us and tried to take our drink glasses even though we were clearly not finished with our drinks. We were regular customers and really liked this place. But we won't be going in the future. read more

Perfectly cooked and seasoned, tender meat--not dry but perfectly juicy. Ran out of time, otherwise would have ordered dessert. Service The positive: our waiter was friendly and made recommendations (fried chicken). the negative: he was scarce. We had to ask busboys for help most of the meal. Atmosphere etc: I don't really care about this, and don't notice much of the decor most of the time unless something stands out. The biggest knock on BF was that the tables are overcrowded. We had a table next to us and I literally was at one of their patron's shoulders. If one of us turned we would have kissed the other on the cheek. I'm not kidding.
